Why do people have this antipathy toward Facebook and not Tiktok? Last year, the idea of no Tiktok had people up in arms? How is Facebook definitively worse? I’m curious.

Facebook is a data harvester beyond our wildest dreams. The amount of data collected by users and non users, devices, networks and anything else that it can get its hands on has always been a scary.

There were signs of Facebook being intrusive as all hell when you could have a conversation with another person sitting next to you and then all the ads you saw were about that thing.

Talk about a bike for a while and see what happens.

Then we saw the extent of data Facebook was not only collecting but allowing to be collected by anyone with the Cambridge Analytica breach.

So yea, fuck Facebook. I'd love to close my account but you can't actually do that if you've setup a dev account before, so it's set to private, everything deleted and sits there till the day Facebook becomes irrelevant to society.

@C0D4 i think quora is similar. I had shit show up in my suggestions that I didn’t recall looking up on YouTube or anywhere online (I was simply talking about it) and boom first thing on my feed!

Honestly, I hear more complaints about tiktok I think.

Has anyone else experience strange shit with quora? I swear at times it would bring up questions in my feed I never looked up anywhere online

Both look like crap to me. Most big social networks seem terrible to me in general. I can see Twitter being useful to follow companies that you want to get info from, like game or tech companies. Doesn't stop people from doing their best to make it a horrible place as well.

@C0D4 The thing about talking and a related ad coming up happened to me multiple times. The most recent one was a few ago when me and I my wife were talking about getting one of those small cycle pedal thingies. We were on our desks and after that chat, I get on Facebook and 2 mins later there's the ad.

I've always chalked it up to some crazy coincidence but you're implying it's not. How is this even possible? This is both fascinating and utterly horrifying at the same time.

TikTok doesn't have any meaningful content so people don't use it. Facebook used to be of importance because it was so successful but now it's dead, too.

Because both are joke. Why comparing something that doesn't merit to be contacted with?)

Facebook is like sticking your dick in an oven, TikTok is like sticking your dick in a toaster.

No, people also have an antipathy against TikTok - but I don't know how large is the intersection of "people with antipathy against TikTok" and "people with antipathy against Facebook".

    - All Facebook apps are buggy AF
    - It's collecting so much data while it's so damn useless
    - A ton of useless crap in the apps
    - 1 post out of 3 is an ad
    - Weird sort system, you don't see what is interesting to you but what you will react to.
    - You react a bit too much? 3 days ban
    - Notifications all the time and for everything

    Should I continue?
