Get a cat. You won't have to kill them. The cat will.

@netikras thanks. But sadly my apartment has a no pet policy

@TeachMeCode well your landlord is gonna be pissed when they find out you have mice then.

@sariel yes but any way I can get rid of them without killing them? If not, I have to resort to plan b sadly

    If it's a !dev, it's a random.

@TeachMeCode find where they're getting in. Block it. Ball up some foil(like you cook with) and spray foam usually does the trick.

Get yourself the OWLTRA OW-2. It uses very high voltages to kill them. They're dead before they know what's happening and there's no mess to clean up afterwards.

@c3r38r170 it’s ok, the !dev is enough to let people know it’s a rant that has nothing to do with coding

@TeachMeCode Yeah tell that to the filters.
  • 1
@sariel thanks! At least they won’t suffer. I’d much rather do that than poison them

Grab gardening gloves, bag em up and throw in bin. They'll suffocate later.

Gloves are for when the bastards attempt to bite you.

@c3r38r170 wait is it !dev or !rant? Sorry, I’m super drunk. Do you say !rant and include the random tag when you want to rant about something non programming related?
  • 1
@C0D4 thanks! If I have to kill them I’ll do it cleanly, like how you suggested

@TeachMeCode Just as a note: If you try to do it friendly, e.g. by luring them to a place, you'll end up attracting other rodents.

The best way would be to find the point of entry, though I don't think your landlord will fix it. Guess what @Sariel wrote comes here into motion.

If you're not sure if it's mixe or rats, a lil warning...

My parents have a nice garden, they use grapes to attract rats which are pretty common in that area, sadly.

    (Attract to kill them...)

I was kinda shocked how fat a rat can become - one had the size of a fucking shovel head. :)

Find and seal where they’re coming from.

Then… idk. A storage tote with food and a ladder outside? They probably won’t be able to climb up the insides, and you can just lid it and dump it in your pesky neighbor’s window/car/flower planter?

I think there are devices you can buy that play high pitch noises that rodents dislike but can't be heard by human ears.

Get a box open a small hole make it easy to get in and hand to get ou, and add some bait in it (ham, chees, cheetos whatever) leave the box on the floor

Wait util you hear the mouse inside the box and trap it inside.

You may also look for some tutorials on YouTube, there's hundreds

If anything, this probably should be tagged as a question, shouldn't it?

Send to the mice these pictre

@Root this also works, just use peanut oil to slick up the inside.

Mice can jump over a foot straight up.

No friction, no jumping or climbing up the sides.

You commit pacifist route on rodent? It's laudable.

    Teach them to code
  • 1
@TeachMeCode You just don't say anything and use the correct tag. It's not that hard, it's definitely easier than coding, ffs.
But I've seen someone saying !rant = story as the button says Rant or Story. But !dev is definitely a random. 97% sure.

Non-lethal traps exist for mice and rats.
But if you don't fix the cause of them coming into your appartment first, there will just be a steady stream of new mice replacing the old ones.
So if your goal isn't to drain the whole neighborhood of rodents, better block their infiltration routes and remove all potential bait (like trash and uncontained edibles) first.

But if the neighborhood isparticularly trashy, you actually might want to change that too. Because when there is a heap of trash next to your house, rats will eventually get into your appartment too - regardless of whether there is anything to eat for them there or not.

I worked maintenance in a hotel at a ski resort. They used live traps for "appearances". We would take the trap to the bathroom and flush em. Otherwise they just come back in the building.
  • 1
@Demolishun and now they live in the sewer. Only flush down your own crap.
  • 1
Honestly, a cat. You can buy or make live traps but that’s like trying to empty an ocean with a bucket. They’ll just come back again and it’s not like a cat killing mice in your house is going to make mice an endangered species.

    - Get a mouse cage ( they are available in India atleast.)
    - put a favourable food item for the mouse ( cheese ?) And wait for it to get in it.
