today it's mostly my tech newsfeed.

It was once the center of my sociallife, but then came the sorting algorythm along and I only got to see adds, selling groups and news. There are some old friends of whom i do not know if they don't post anything anymore or if facebook withhelding me their posts.

ah ... kind of what i suspected... i assume also that im a few years time with the new gen of young people they will start to see through the consumerism bullshit of adds and go onto a new wave of social media... in essence facebook is losing its grip on reality... i personally think facebook is the new ad spam of the late 90's. spam with web 2.0

It's more frustrating than that, though, since many of my peers are used to Facebook still telling people what's going on. I think there's a chunk of isolated millennials who are socially lost now that ads have replaced their friends.

Mostly, I use it for events. It used to be my death/wedding/pregnancy/in danger finder, but it doesn't work for that anymore.

I use it, i have some friends who i don't get to see often and its nice to keep the conversation flowing on all sorts of shit. I have others who play in bands so i get to know gig dates and stuff. One that makes commercial videos and stuff for fun that he posts. Its still relevant to me. I have developed friendships from people I have only met in person a few times, and re-connected with old friends and some I knew at school. I like that i have a diverse range of friends that have nothing to do with dev. Obviously, there is a downside. The ads and cat pictures. Variety is the spice of life.

Friends. Maybe like group stuff ( internships, subletting appts , second hand toasters), news, comic book stuff, the manga otaku community is strong, satire...

No one I know uses the same messaging app. Some people are on GroupMe, some Facebook, some Slack, some Discord, even a few on tumblr.

all valid reasons still... my point though if i may poke at it is that even with these valid reasons why cant facebook be like it was suited for those reasons ? did money become too much of a concern between their creativity and tech ? and whats up with people using different messenging apps all the time? ( that one blows my mind dead water ) if we are all used to whatsapp that kind of sneakily placed itself in each and every person that has a handset, why cant one platform rule them all... skyped tried to aim that in the past and google with their "x" chat products but people kind of drift off with their own versons and uses.

@naughtyelf because most of the people I talk to are either tech illiterate and are not comfortable changing no matter what I say or they just don't care.

I work overseas so Facebook is one way for me still keep up with my friends and family back in my country. Also following pages which regularly posts stuff that I'm interested in. I get the ads too and I'm aware of how it works but that's fine because I'm getting something out from Facebook anyway. And I only post something public that I want the public to see
