going from IT Operations to System Developer.... good progression as one knows alot about the hardware that you are compiling on.
-
code reviewed a "senior" developers code (guy has been at the companyny since noah and his clay computer tablets), he replied with my comments against it stating he has more experience than i have and that i shouldnt do anything except just sign off the stuff to production, stuff goes to production and breaks a massive financial cluster fuck of a mess, who gets the blame for releasing the code to production ? Junior me !!! gotta love it when management needs scapegoats of FIFO people.2
-
"You have changed what??? WHY DID YOU CHANGE THAT WHEN WE TOLD YOU NOT TO CHANGE IT!!! " newbie that changed critical process source on a financial system causing havok....5
-
implementing "standards" and "code review" the way "managers" want by reading stuff from a book and forcing us to apply it in real world.... their reply when we have questions that they cant answer... "the book says so"

new project != new wonderfull creative ideas but rather new project = lots of procrastination and over analyzing

how many of us really do use the mouse as often as we can ? or to put it another way... how many miss the days of just being very productive with keyboard shortcuts ? i find it very annoying with the mouse hindering my progress.... but then again i cant remember all the shortcuts...8

my project would be to write clean and KISS code... not slap and green egg ham jam kind of sticky tape.
-
learning the vastness of open source linux... and being always beaten trying to setup Arch. Arch is master me still student.
-
so management implements SDLC. finally. but here is the snag... none of the environments are setup for any developer , integration or uat testing. now all the while business keeps pushing changes knto us and making us try work miracles. anyone else have this hell of communication from the high holy management above not listening to developers concerns ?
-
coding has changed my point if view of life on how to solve problems and work with humans on a level playing field. that and that
there always will be more stupidity in logical code constructs each and every line you discover as time goes by. -
meeting was about how we as developers should abide by the rules that compliance set forth. we argued that we cannot do our jobs if they block access and configuration on our development systems. they dont realize that our dev boxes are configured organic in nature to allow for those stupid deadlines.
-
my lesson as a new dev was when the senior told me to RTFM....by not using Google... as in ... real books... dusty... old... valuable... and BIG mother farking ones.2
-
trying to sort out duplicate files on my various hard drives. i mean really determining how long i want to keep this torture going is beyond my own stupidity... clouds be trees

seeing all these real life computer setups and desktops makes me drool. @dfox and @trogus , mind if i suggest creating a tab or place to share this exquisite computer porn ?7
-
evaluating whether i should make it more agile and flexible or just get it slapped into production. always waging war in between proper developer testing vs my own uat testing (of which we as devlopers also need to do)

I wonder one day whether we will br able to take snapshots of the internet given the amount of bandwith vs the storage at out disposal... reason from my side will be to see the difference correlated over time especially with regards to the "legal crap". Also having the ability to see other people's "copy" overlayed with yours to see the actual organic nature of information.2

Question if I may be allowed to ask... Who still uses Facebook for whatever reasons they fancy and how much of it ?10

DevRant = Therapy for all us IT psychopaths that decided to enter the abyss by touching our first compile command....(or setting if you in IT support)2

42 ... Hitchhikers Guide to the Universe... nuff said. :) (oh and there is a way to actually calculate that number based on content in the book)5

first was with people who wanted to host a hackathon. no one even coded a simple hello world application. not even tried to google it with the free internet access available. second time was only one other developer and myself with a bunch of people wanting to claim their fame. pitching alot of ideas but none wanted to do the hard graft.
-
so the deployment from my side went through ok... but a "SYSTEM" defect almost prohibited my changes from being signed off... explained it to the person responsible... and then they sign it off knowing well that it was a "SYSTEM" defect that was outside of scope...
-
brace yourselves!!! we are deploying this weekend... (expect more rants to follow as the deployment continues (or fucks up) )3
-
what am i going to do today? whatever the fuck the SYSTEM throws at me... or what my manager wants me to waste time on... ah , programmer life when one has a conundrum of doing what you like to do but not end up doing that because there are other mountains to climb with squirrels eating your nuts...1

best zone will be rain... lots of it and a touch of coolness in the air... also the espresso machine from arms reaching distance.

what grinds my balls ? DATA INCONSISTENCIES!!! what the fuck did people think proliferating bad data futher into the abyss of existence!!!3
