Communication skill is pretty important for making courses of any kind.

At the level you exposed here, you should really assume the bad reviews to actually be correct.

@Oktokolo and you are not far off from the truth, but lots of reviews for decent courses that I see are pretty mean spirited for things that are entirely the fault of the students. "In section 3 I had an error with the video, asked instructor, instructor did not reply" --> I would check the error, which is 5 seconds of googling with a solution, yet they attack the creators because they were not being hand held.

Sometimes good instructors get shitty reviews for things that people, in particular in the dev field, should be able to google etc.

@AleCx04 True, but if you are a really good content creator / online teacher, the amount of 5 stars usually far outweighs the amount of 1 stars, so you can simply ignore them since you rating will still fall around 4.5 to 4.8.

If you average rating is 2 or 3, then it's time for some self instropection.

My rating is fine, which is why I rage at the 1 or 2 star ratings even more - the majority really enjoy my courses, which is why I'm fuming theirs a few losers who can't even take the time to do a proper review.

@daniel-wu oh for sure, 100% with you on that. In this situation I did check out the homie's account on Udemy and he has pretty good ratings.

It sucks, but think of it from the user's perspective - they've already spent their time and potentially money on something they are unsatisfied with, people are selfish and will want to move on to something that will satisfy them asap instead of spending even more of their time telling you how to improve your course.

This begs the question, why even bother giving a review in the first place? -> Clicking a star rating is very quick compared to writing out a more detailed comment, and it just looks like overall that's as much time:feedback ratio these users are willing to spend.

And then there is quite some difference in ratings between cultures.
Some always fully rate, only when major difficulties arise subtractions are applied.
Whuke other cultures generally compare to their best ever experience, and subtract every single deviation of your grade.

Fast moving societies are simply that driven, that even their private life had to be fast track.
Nobody "can really" fine you / take points off you for giving a crappy review or any at all. It is a luxury to have a good client base that would be feedback driven.
