dmonkey23278yEvery distribution is good for developing. Choose the one you prefer. My favourite is Debian, but I'm quite a noobie, so maybe some senior Linux user would suggest you something better.

jbell218yCheck the tools you want to use. Last time I switched through a couple of distros, Atom's RPM was not working on Fedora. It was simpler/quicker for me to just switch to something Debian based than trying to fix it.

@chaz042 free bsd is pretty sweet.
To find the best Linux distribution for your use, figure out if you want to deal with systemd, firewalld, which package management system you want and how much work you're willing to do to build out the system.
I'm a pretty firm user of Osx for my dev environment and esxi for the server with lots of rhel instances. -
olback109818yI'd recommend ubuntu if you're running that on your server, there is A LOT of answers online if you have any trouble with anything.
My preferred setup is Ubuntu Gnome with the Budgie-Desktop environment, arc-dark theme and paper icons. -
