He's panicking. Facebook is rapidly dying, and he's put all his eggs in one basket with what appears to be a very rapidly failing Metaverse project. It's nuts.

There's a reason why the older, very successful companies now like Amazon, Google, Microsoft are still around - they diversified when they were in a really strong position already. Imagine if Google just focused on Google Plus, or Amazon decided to go solely into the gaming space with Crucible - they'd be dead. Facebook has scrambled to stay relevant by desperately hoping this investment pays off, but all the signs are pointing towards a massive downfall.
