    As a Arch Linux user, This kinda relatable 😂.
  • 22
    Yeah, whenever there is a problem with my computer, that's because I fucked it up 😄
  • 4
    Good one
  • 9
    True. Very true.
  • 12
    Haha so true!! I always try and run Ubuntu or Fedora on my desktop PC but configuring something will just break it and will have to reinstall the OS again. I always end up going back to Windows because of this. I've had Fedora running on a server for over a year without issues though.

    Hahahahaha. Man you made my day.

    @siliconchips welcome to devRant!

    At least you learn by repairing it

    I'd just like to interject for a moment. What you’re referring to as Linux, is in fact, GNU/Linux, or as I’ve recently taken to calling it, GNU plus Linux. Linux is not an operating system unto itself, but rather another free component of a fully functioning GNU system made useful by the GNU corelibs, shell utilities and vital system components comprising a full OS as defined by POSIX.
    Many computer users run a modified version of the GNU system every day, without realizing it. Through a peculiar turn of events, the version of GNU which is widely used today is often called “Linux”, and many of its users are not aware that it is basically the GNU system, developed by the GNU Project. There really is a Linux, and these people are using it, but it is just a part of the system they use.
    Linux is the kernel: the program in the system that allocates the machine’s resources to the other programs that you run.

    The kernel is an essential part of an operating system, but useless by itself; it can only function in the context of a complete operating system. Linux is normally used in combination with the GNU operating system: the whole system is basically GNU with Linux added, or GNU/Linux. All the so-called “Linux” distributions are really distributions of GNU/Linux.

    @Linux "I'd like to interject for a moment" (Sounds like Richard Stallman xD)
  • 9
    @Linux I think we all know it's gnu/Linux, but realistically it's much easier to just say Linux.

    but i like fucking shit up myself!

    Currently having a fucked up boot.
  • 1
    @jakar on Windows it's basically
    "fixes it... yup, that's windows, no back to the non system related task I was doing"

    Still thinking of installing @Linux on my desktop pc
    But it's my gaming machine... Well, not doing it as long as I host servers on it anyway
  • 3
    @aile11
    I can really recommend buying a supermicro motherboard and build your own server :)
  • 1
    @Linux might sound like a nice idea, but loads of games aren't supported by linux anyway, so i might as well just leave it as the small server it is for now

    probably gonna get a raspberry pie as a teamspeak server though, then i can maybe even shut my pc down sometimes
  • 2
    @aile11
    What games are you hosting? Ofcourse you can rum a Windows server in a supermicro bostad, I rum a couple in my proxmox enviroment.
  • 1
    @Linux bostad, proxmox, wtf

    Well supermicro sounds like a full fledged server, so I guess... Expensive

    For now at least, I don't need ab actual server
  • 3
    @aile11
    Autocorrect... Bostad = server

    I bought my motherboard for €150, a 8 core xeon - €150. 12GB RAM - €200.

    Total cost was about €500.

    ab server wtf?
  • 2
    @Linux what autocorrect corrects server to bostad? XD
  • 2
    @aile11
    I wish I had a answer to that
  • 1
    @Linux but yeah 500 bucks is a bit much for a server that I basically don't really need

    Well, I'll see, someday, maybe, it'll strike me as the best idea ever
  • 2
    @aile11
    Well, sounds like you need it ;)
  • 1
    @Linux well, servers running on my pc... It's not really Necessary to put them on an actual server
  • 2
    @aile11
    But it is more fun, and more stable
  • 6
    @Linux alright stall man back in ya box.
  • 7
    @philcr
    GNU/Linux
  • 4
    @Linux I know the difference dude just Linux is easier than gnu\linux because that leads to loads of debate over how you pronounce GNU
  • 5
  • 2
    @Linux I thought it was gunooo
  • 6
    Lignux
  • 1
    @penguin <- genius right here
  • 2
    Just do an upgrade on an Arch machine and there you go.
  • 3
    @Linux isn't it "Dji En U"?
  • 4
    The biggest virus on Linux is cpanel.
  • 2
    @ninjatini
    THANK YOU!
  • 4
    I once uninstalled apt-get...
  • 3
    @jacojvvdev
    Use apt instead
  • 4
    @Linux I also uninstalled curl and http packages and my desktop and the terminal...
  • 3
    This is very true. I have broken Linux a couple of times by mistake.
  • 1
    @daemonAD Could you tell me what third party software you used? I'm stuck with a broken dual boot because of doing a sudo apt-get upgrade. My computer directly boots to Windows 7
  • 3
    @philcr that's cz you're a student, kiddo, once you'll be mature enough and step into real industry , you'll have to eat this shit every day ;)
  • 3
    @captain-sully I'm not actually a student 😜 I've only worked as a Dev since 1998, Windows NT4, and red hat 4 are where I started,

    I say I'm a student because everyday is a learning day. Nearly 20 years in the industry and I'm still learning at least one new thing a day!
  • 2
    That makes us the viruses....woah
  • 2
    Yes... Archlinux user over here, I once got a kernel panic because pacman returned an error while upgrading the kernel and I said: "That will fix itself if I reboot" 😅
  • 2
    rm -rf /
  • 1
    The system does not screw up itself, people do.

    @CSaratakij my condolences

    its not unix, its the concept of having constant updates in your life, aka no control over your own life.
