To all the Mac users in here, I want to get in on the iOS app business, but I kinda don't have money for a new macbook. SO! What are your experiences with MacBooks older than 2013? I'm talking about the Air and Pro. Keep in mind that I won't need to run VMs in this, as I have another new Windows PC fully loaded.

My MacBook is from 2013 and still runs pretty well, but if you add a SSD then you shouldn't have any problems

Not a MacBook but I'm still using an iMac from 2009. Switched out hdd for ssd and have 8gb ram and it works like... an iMac from 09.

@shozukan I thought that Macs from 2013 already have an SSD by default

@DRHAX34 so maybe mine is from 2012...

I used to work with MBP 2012 model. It'll be little slow but gets the job done.

@razorstone How do you get around the awful screen resolution? Or did you have a Retina one?

you can get some decent used server mac mini on ebay, which thanks to it's size ships to everywhere by mail.

Why waste money on old hardware just for this, look up Hackintosh.

I had a mid 2012 MBP. I gave it to my sister last month, since I got a new one from my work.
It's still working great, except that I had to change few of its parts last year. Remember to have at least 8 GB RAM and throw in a SSD, if you want it faster. Remove that hideous superdrive to make space for SSD.

@megabait Uhm, won't Apple deny me access to the App Store for deploying on a Hackintosh? Cause I'm already using a Hackintosh, but I'm tired of having to deal with sudden kernel panics and everywhere I've read, you need a Real Mac to deploy apps to the App Store...

@DRHAX34, I've done it myself. And everywhere I read says that it (still) works.

@megabait uhm, right, then I have to check on that. Maybe I'll keep my current Hackintosh then.

U could buy a newer Mac Mini, they have a better price/performance ratio.
For appdevelopment u should choose an macbook pro because of more possibilities to use more cables and u have more USB-Slots than on a macbook air (ive a mb-pro and a mb-air but no mac mini because of i use already iMacs).
And u can change the cddrive on a macbook pro to another HDD or SSD! (The adapter will cost about 10€ on ebay)

@Christian1998 But doesn't the macbook air have thunderbolt? that means I can probably get a dock to get more usb and display stuff, right?

@DRHAX34 Yea it has, but u need to buy / get a dockingstation :)
