My interviews to hire a Junior Dev will begin this week. Here's how its gonna go down.

Me: Star Trek or Star Wars?

My Supervisor: WTF? How is that relevant?

Human Resources: Let's see what he says.

Applicant: Battlestar Galactica

Me: Nice. I can deal with that.

Me: Tabs or spaces when indenting your code?

Supervisor: ... ?

Human Resources : ...

Applicant: Spaces.

Me: GTFO you imbecile! Next!

    I've honestly never understood "this or that?" questions. What happens if it's neither, either and both at the same time? :-S
    Luckily I haven't stumbled upon them so far in my interviews. :-D

    Hahahaha to all of you! As long as the code is legible, I will be okay with it, but the right way is tabs. Old habits die hard. :P

    @Qaldim Yeah, I am no where near as confrontational as my rant, but that's why I added the Battlestar dialog in too. :)

    I don't know whats the difference between both? Honestly I just let IDE handle formatting, never had to type a space nor tab

    Unless you guys do depend on terminal or plain text editors for a quick fix

    My answer to that is honestly whatever is already in use by the team; i don't give a shit, it's whitespace either way

    I still like just using a text editor that converts tabs to spaces. Then everyone wins. Except Richard Hendriks.

    There is not such a thing as right or wrong way to do anything, each one use what is better to him and we must respect.

    Except for this, of course. Tabs forever! 😂😂😂😂

    Visual studio just inserts 4 or 5 spaces when you press tab.
    So i use tabs and spaces.

    Spaces > tabs.

    However: I can use either. What I don't understand is why some people can't just use whichever their team uses.

    tabs... to lazy to reformat the alignment when I check the committed codes to the repository during code review when someone uses spaces.
