How the fuck are you supposed to read the Nobody: shit? What does it mean? It doesn't make any fucking sense.19

I fucking love the timeline feature on Google maps. Makes it nice and easy to remember where you went on a trip so you can revisit on Street view for example1
-
If your the installation instructions for your software are to clone the repo and build from source then fuck you!
I want to use the thing not tinker with it. Make it available on apt or something9 -
Woohoo, time to nuke a server and build it into a docker host.
Heeeereeee we gooooo... wish me luck2 -
Super pumped for Google Stadia. I can imagine a future where all you need is a screen (an ultrabook for example) and you get access to everything from movies and music to games.6

I know this will most likely cause an uproar here but I actually prefer the products I use be profitable to the maker.
That's because if the maker of the product is making money on it (with a sustainable business plan) then there is a higher chance they'll keep developing it.
On the other hand, if the developer is working on it from his own free time with now monetary incentive then there is a high likelihood they'll stop when they run out of money or time or whatnot.
So all in all, a company developing a profitable product is the best bet for stability IMO6 -
Anyone know of a good docker backup tool?
I'm working with fairly limited space here so Im looking for a tool to allow me to backup and restore my docker instance without storing easily recreatable data.
That means that what I want to backup are:
- Container specs (inspections or the like)
- Contents of persistent, non-nfs volumes
Since the image and the contents of my nfs volumes are stored elsewhere, and my space is limited, I decided not to back them up. Same for non-persistent (unnamed) volumes since they mostly contain stuff that you don't want to recreate on every container update or recreation but can easily be recreated if needed.
The hope is that this approach should give me a pretty slim backup while still preserving everything I need to recreate my whole docker instance.
Thanks in advance!11 -
So Huawei got pretty much nuked by Google.
I wonder if it's going to stick because it would mean they're pretty much out of the smartphone game if I understand it right8 -
It seems that linuxxx could post a rant detailing the growth phases of beans and people would ++ it through the roof. Fucking A man... Really makes the "top" page a boring read when 50% of it is random shit that he posted. Could use some fucking variety in here.
That's mostly aimed at the brainless people that instantly ++ popular people, not really at linuxxx.5 -
"Today I won't code, I'll just play some games or watch TV and relax!"
"Hmmm... I'll just fix this one small thing here... shouldn't take long. And then its time for some gaming!"
* 3 hours later *
Still coding, wtf is wrong with me6 -
So I went to take a look at Mozilla's "privacy not included" guide.
That's some good comedy right there, fucking rubber ducks that spy on you.
Jesus fucking christ -
Is it me or is there less activity on devrant these days? The "recent" tab has the same stuff for ages.1

This is just fucking awesome.
Bought a domain name from a local registrar today and now my personal details like full name, phone number and exact address are nicely on whois.
The cunts didn't even thing to ask me during registration if I want to make it private and there's no option to do that on their piss poor website.
Oh well, tomorrow will be the day that I transfer my new domain away from them. Last time I ever do business with these shitcakes10 -
Woooooooo!
Just finished my first fully automated CI/CD system. Now all my commits go through the pipeline and gets deployed to live automatically.
It's a small project but still, it's really cool!10 -
Company: our team is like a family, everyone is valued and respected
Reality: We have a predefined power structure that will not be challenged no matter what. This is not a democracy, it's a dictatorship.4 -
I'd say general every day problem solving and observing the processes of the natural world.
When you take the time to observe and learn from the natural world you can really learn alot from it. Nature has alot of the things we work on already figured out 🙂 -
So I've just found about this guy Jordan Peterson. He's a clinical psychologist, really smart guy.
Anyway I've been watching his videos and it's been super interesting and useful stuff so I thought I'd share the word.
He mainly talks about society, culture and human behaviour.
There's also a couple of Joe Rogan podcasts with him, 3h long each, I know, quite long, but good stuff and really interesting.
Edit: I should probablly add that there's some controversy going on around him. Ignore that for starters and just listen to what the man has to say 🙂
Anyway, go check him out on youtube5 -

I don't have many regrets in life but one would be that I didn't learn something harder at uni. I should have picked something like CS or cryptography or something like that. Even flat out math or physics would have been super useful.
On the other hand, the finance stuff I now see as common sense doesn't seem so common after all so there's that, and it helped me too.
I learned economics with specialization in finance btw2 -
So Google, Microsoft, Facebook, Amazon and many others just gave $50mil (each) for CS education in USA. The program is intended to help minorities and kids in highschool learn coding.
That's pretty awesome. Say what you will about these companies but they do some really great things sometimes.
Also, Ivanka Trump was helping this along. I'm not a fan of the trump administration but still, that's awesome!7 -
Getting married tomorrow!!!
Holy shit!!
I'm kind of scared actually. But in a good way 😄
And here I am, in the middle of the night, trying to figure out why my fucking tests don't run 😄56 -
What do you guys think about mercurial (hg)?
I think it has no place in a world where git exists and I prefer git.
Just wondering what the general sentiment is15 -
So I was working on a web scraper to basically download all listings with detailed info from a e-shop to my database for some analysis.
And I completely forgot throttling which is quite important when writing such things in node.js.
It's funny how in other languages you try to figure out how to make your application faster and in node you're trying to make it slower 😄
Anyhow, I apparently hit the poor site with 5000+ simultaneous requests, all of which hit their database (to gather product info). Suffice to say, the site got visibly slow 🤣
Thankfully I print out where each request is made so I quickly realised my mistake and killed the process.
Now I hope no-one comes knocking on my door lol

Brace for Ubuntu 17.10 release coming tomorrow. Bye bye my old friend Ubuntu Gnome and hello vanilla Ubuntu
PS: don't hate for liking Ubuntu, at least I'm on Linux, cmon 😄20 -
So WPA2 has been broken.
That's quite a bad news coming so shortly after the BlueBourne vulnerability was discovered
