Well today was a good day, after getting fired from my last job I got awarded in my current one. feels good to be appreciated 🙂3
-
I find a decent place to work, with interesting problems to solve, decent fellow devs, and a decent salary.
If one of those lapses, I start thinking about moving. Life's too short to be working on boring stuff, working with idiots, or working for pittance.1 -
✅ Fun project
✅ Salary
✅ Code ownership and leadership
✅ Appreciation at work
✅ WFH
✅ No overwork
✅ Sufficient time for relaxation/hobbies
and other things3 -
Incompetence of people around me drives me mad. I see a piece of shit code and I can’t stop myself from improving it.
Also better developers around me. I need to find out how they’re better and beat them6 -
I don't really "keep" myself motivated. I wake up with certain amount of motivation every day and then I slowly die inside through out the day, every day.2
-
Weekly Q: How do you keep yourself motivated?
A: No matter what - I allocate a little bit of time every week to something I really care about right now.
When I was green it was mostly learning. Now it's mostly codebase cleanup, dev experience improvement or dabbling with some feature that's not prio.
Might not sound like a lot but doing it weekly does add up. -
Work so hard that you're too mentally exhausted to even think about how your life could be better or more enjoyable.2
-
By trying to do my best. Doing a good job makes me feel good and gives me even more motivation.
Also by trying something new every time. Either by using new library, new approach do to things or whatever. Just to keep stuff exciting. -
I am finally again at a company where I enjoy working and my coworkers are great that makes it easy staying motivated. Besides that need to provide for my family.2
-
Sometimes i motivate myself by going on youtube.com and searching this exact "A day in the life of a software engineer"
then i watch a couple of videos during breakfast and lunch time
and search pretty much anything to do with software development
and also listen to some Lofi beats -
I have bills to pay, I’ve got mouths to feed. 💵 don’t grow on 🌳
I also take breaks, exercise and vacations, no dev can work 24/7 and expect to keep his sanity.5 -
I keep myself motivated by reading about new technologies, language features and constantly trying to improve my code.
I see great reward in having fast and readable code. -
i don't. and i'm not.
occasionally the thought that i will have some money on cigarettes and booze and the ability to forgwt about existential dread for a few days, that occasionally motivates me a bit, but that's about it. my ambition and dreams and will to do anything ia gone, and now i'm just coasting until such a time when coasting won't be possible anymore, and then i'm gonna jump out of the window or something. -
I try not to distract myself with more pleasurable things until I've got everything done. For example, I don't watch YouTube between my tasks, don't keep checking my cellphone every time, play chess, etc.4
-
I don't - I live and am ready to face the consequences if I'm ever found out not to be the best of myself everyday.
(That shit is reserved for family and friends - can't buy my smile) -
I like to switch up my Google Meet and Zoom backgrounds. Keep people guessing where the heck I am. I’m a remote worker. It definitely messes with some people. Both the backgrounds and the permanent WFH thing.
