While showing the rest service demo a senior 10+ years dev ran into session issues in chrome. I asked him to open private/incognito. He opened ie,edge, closed all chrome, tried back, nothing. Had no clue whatsoever.
At last I asked him to do ctrl shift n in chrome & dark chrome opened up where he could use the test accounts to validate the bugs. He is still confused what happened4
As part of mentoring folks was having a round table. All wanted tech help. lists of things to do, learning syllabus, techs to bet on, projects, promotion mantras etc etc.
I asked them how's the work. All started rating about overload and overworked. How difficult it is to find time to do anything else. It became noisy.
So asked how they will find time to do all the above without time. Do they really need mentoring on time management and prioritisation ?
Felt like my invisible tws anc headset turned ON at that moment3
Due to covid, mgrs decided to fire 10% but could not negotiate schedule increase with internal IT. With no promotions or hikes, few full stacks we have leave.
Now am working with 2 data engg doing cloud java microsvs work while learning. Their first delivery was applauded by their mgr who is under pressure to retain them.
I as arch review their code. No unit tests, print statements all around, shoddy exception handling, variable naming issues. We have Sonar by default in our build. They ignore the report. I ask them about it. Seems mgr told them he is getting a contract person from another team on part time basis to do/fix. I share my confusion.
Mgr calls me up and checks if we can put it as tech debt backlog and deploy to prod !!!1
When a team manager appreciates the team for managing multiple conflicting priorities & working long hours in an allegedly agile environment, am more worried about why those things were needed in the first place
So they have a meeting to declare -
Then managers start talking about how good leader the ceo is & how nicely he managed covid situation.
Confused as to what happened here...5
Our local cyber security team has asked all to remove docker from their laptops, reason they can't track them
Most of our stack is aws fargate with nodejs and java springboot
Developers = wtf ?!!2
Our best dev/arch just quit.
C dev lead & a dev staying late chatting.
Lead: am building, takes long
Dev: unit testing, time taking
Ask them y they r building on their latitudes when we got them linux precision with xeons/64gb workstation 1 each ?
Both: I code on latitude.
Build/test times. (pure Java/maven)
Latitudes=an hr or more
Precision=2m to 11m
Jenkins Infra we have =10 mins with test & push. Parallel builds support.
Am suposed to help with an open mind. They now want Mac pro12
Decide to move to docker for windows from toolbox. Worked well until vpn/s-tunnel all crapped out.
Found out about hyperv, default ethernet, HNS, windows DNS etc etc getting confused.
Removed docker and hyper v, back to working again.
Interface index for adapter selection , really ?
Program manager who handles scrum of scrums asked our scrum master to slow down. Our velocity and quality is making other teams look bad...
The problem is, no one from other team wants to learn anything from us on automation/cicd. They are good even though manual.
Not sure what to do. Biz is happy with us...6
I joined in 2011 when there were 3% architects/technologists. Even those were PMP certified.
Now we have 80% archs/techs/coders/devops/cyber, with aws/azure/java/db/cyber certs and no PMP.
Even now managers go off-site for a week to some exotic location and come back to present the architecture.1
Just found out our pre-production environment is the qa for another team.
Infra team has recommended to ignore the nomenclature. It's just a name they said.
Went through 60 python packages to see which fails installing on the serve. Took hrs as I have no terminal access but just via jenkins pipeline. So "edit/gitpush requirements.txt and wait" many times. Eventually looped them 1 by 1 in shell. By end of day got the list that installs.
Finally sent the whole list....with confidence
-Takes full 10 mins & Fails......
(panic mode starts)
+Changed the sequence = fails, somewhere else
+1 by 1 again = installs.....
+few random without the culprit =works
+again, whole list = fails, somewhere else

But I still want high stability, security n 4 9s availability. Just want it done. My team is best. Am a fast-track leadership program leader who never has or ever needs to cod. I just know ...

Windows 10 wanted to restart my XPS due to some updates, said will do it during idle hours but I still restarted. Boots back , couldn't. Tried again, same. Removed all USB devices , HDMI monitor, mini display monitor , still no luck. Removed power cable & it starts.
Slowly and carefully added all back one by one. Working for now ...2
