Programming Siemens PLCs is the same like using windows. Pretty comfortable - if you are fine with using it like 85% of the users.
Spent 10h today finding a way to realise an interrupt everytime a specific variable is set.. Every damned microcontroller can be used to! - _-

And therefore this typcial windows user question:
Is it not intended by Siemens or am I blind?

I mean i know you can use some prefabricated interrupts.. Like the cyclic interrupt OB.. I can't believe that it's not provided to freely create interrupts?!

Someone with an idea?

Can anyone tell me whether HR actually gives any shit about "I finished an udemy class"-certificates?
I like udemy. To get into a new language or something like that it's pretty cool (if you are ok with paying for things you can find on google, too). But somehow i don't trust their certificates. Do they make you look like a fool if you put them in your cv? Or is it a prove of "see how engaged I am"?

Coding would be fun right now.
But seems like i gitta do a night shift to rock network technology test tomorrow. The most annoying thing about this test is, that we have to calculate ip addresses by hand. Not too hard, but damn.. We are not allowed to write it down in hex, only binary (while calculating). And he wants to see interim steps in our calculations.. Even with IPv4 addresses it will be a great amount of 0s and 1s to write.
I better look for a second pen to take with me..

So, maybe i should suggest that we should ask for permission if we want to go to fucking toilet. Yes. That would be great. Gonna do that.

Are here any PLC devs present?

After 4 years of internal struggle, short side leaps and a big amount of feeling restricted and beeing tired of it, I decided to totally switch from windows to linux. No dual boot (which ended about 20times in "oh, i didnt start linux for 2 weeks.."), no "i can have Linux on VM". Just linux and me, hopefully a neverending love story.

Thats the theory.

Problem 1: is it somehow possible to use Siemens TIA portal with Linux in a proper way?
Problem 2: is there any IDE which is at least nearly as comfortable for c# coding as visual studio?

How devrant changes me #1:
I'm a little bit more active on devrant since about a week. Improvement so far:
1. I spent only 20% of the time on Facebook i usually do
2. I really enjoy the nice community
3. I even more enjoy that i notice there are more "dudes like me" :D i mean.. I'm tired of telling my "normal" friends how happy i am because i wrote some awesome code and just get a "eeeh.. Nice." back because they dont understand and often dont even try to understand whats so special for me.
4. Even if my english is still kinda bad, i notice that i get better with every rant i post. I mean.. That post cost me about 3 min. I swear 7 days ago it would have cost me minimum 7 minutes to get this lines down :)

Last completed (so not something which is still going on) project i have learned a lot was for "digital- and microcontroller technology" classes.
I designed a tower which fits on a pc fan. In this tower there is a tabletennis ball and on top of it is a infrared sensor. With a Potentiometer you can set the height at which the ball shall float.
As microcontroller i took an arduino uno. For visualization i used SerialComInstruments.
Learned lots of microcontroller programming, pid controls and how the fuck a serial port communication really works.

I'm ashamed - but after knowing devRant for over 2 years, it is the first day i ever visit it NOT in the android app.

Currently, a classmate and I are working on our technical thesis.
It is all about industry 4.0, IIoT, big data and stuff.
This week, we presented our interim results to our supervisor. He is very pleased with our work and made the following suggestion:
He thinks it would be awesome to publish our work on our own GitHub repository and make it open source because he is convinced that this thesis is able to kind of "set a new standard" in some specific fields of using big data analysis in production processes.

I guess I'm kind of proud :)
