"Fatal Error"
Exceptions? No, let's just halt the entire program.
Apparently a CS professor wrote this code.
"Needed to keep the compiler happy"17 -
Holy crap. I am so torn between getting a razer blade 15 and an XPS 15.
I am going for the small-but-powerful build because I keep finding myself coding on the go (with GoLang, snicker).
I was pretty happy with my Dell Inspiron 14 even though I had issues with Linux in the beginning. But my main gripe right now is how heavy it is to lug around together with it's charger--which I can't leave without anymore.
I'm looking at both laptops' 1800 USD configuration which pretty much have similar specs. And I also did some research about how each plays with Linux and they pretty much have the same (fixable) problems.
What I wanna know from the fine folks here is what their experience have been like. Cause I know I can make it work with Linux but if the total experience is just meh then I don't think they're worth the hefty price tags.7 -
Lemme be frank for a moment
Just because the compiler tells you that you need to do a certain thing, DOESN'T MEAN YOU SHOULD SEE THAT AS THE ONLY FUCKING SOLUTION
DON'T START FUCKING UP THE SINGLE-RESPONSIBILITY PATTERN JUST BECAUSE THE COMPILER SAYS YOU SHOULD, HOW DENSE MUST YOU BE TO THINK THAT'S THE FUCKING SOLUTION?! PERHAPS YOU SHOULD DIG A LITTLE BIT DEEPER? I CAN'T EVEN LAUGH ABOUT IT IT'S SO SAD. DEADLINE IS GETTING CLOSER DAMNIT
Oh btw, another instance:
"I'm doing X to achieve Y because I'm more familiar with step 1 of X"
Fine, but that takes more time and can be done in way Z, in that way, you don't loose precious time and can just work on the other steps in the proces that contineously get harder.
* Person proceeds to do X anyway and get stuck, in the end having nothing done *
🙄
I like helping people, I really do
But I'm not going to loosen the knot around your neck if you keep tightening it9 -
We have a long standing, transient, occasional error in our system that we haven't quite been able to (or have had the time to) pin down.
I was thinking out loud with our project lead what the cause could be, which - before I realized it - segwayed seamlessy into me being tasked with hotfixing it in order to unblock some other tasks that people expect to start working on tomorrow.
I think I'm starting to see why people use inanimate objects for rubber ducking instead of other devs. Here's hoping my theory checks out.2 -
A lot of things give people a sense of power but someone starring and forking your public repo is waaayyyyyy up there.
You feel me?1 -
If your IDE found
10 errors
and 47 warns
would you correct them
or let them slip.
YO ...
His palms are sweaty
Knees weak, arms are heavy
The tests are failing already
Code spaghetti.
He's nervous,
But at his laptop he looks calm and ready
To squash bugs
But he keeps on forgetting
What he wrote down, the whole team goes so loud
He opens his file, but the code won't come out
He's chokin', how, everybody's jokin' now
The deadline run out, times up, over, blaow!
Snap back to reality, oh there goes file integrity
Oh, there goes documentation, he choked
He's so mad, but he won't give up that easy? No
He won't have it, he knows his whole header's code
It don't matter, he's dope, he knows that, but he's broke
He's so stacked that he knows, when he goes back to his mobile home, that's when its
Back to the office again yo, this whole rhapsody
He better go capture this moment and hope it don't pass him

I'm breaking out our authentication logic to a separate OIDC server. It's technically pretty straightforward, but just the thought of moving all those users and making sure that the communication between the system and the auth server works properly makes me shiver...3

Professor: How could you write a program in C to prevent the titanic from sinking?
Me: float Titanic;
😅😅2 -
"why dont you just go on a vacation?"
Why dont you just earn a billion dollars? Or why dont you just fuck your mom in her asshole from where you came from? FUCK YOU
FUCK THOSE PEOPLE WHO TELL ME WHY DONT YOU JUST GO ON A FUCKING VACATION15 -
I'm surprised by the ability of coworkers to get on my nerves. Here's an example...
Me: "Just upload those files you idiot! I got called up three times all because you couldn't upload this thing!"
Co-Worker: "Chill bro, I've got it all here safe and secure on my computer"
Me: "....."
(In mind: Should I do to him what Walter did in breaking bad.... Drown him in a vat of acid. Saves me the trouble of hiding the body)5
