Asus introduces dual screen laptop with touchscreen instead of keyboard. Just imaging programming with that

DISCLAIMER: it’s just a concept

    Typos all over the place.

    Looks lovely tbh

The 'keyboard' monitor should be spilled hot coffee proof 😂
  • 3
@oudalally well then... I guess gl hf for those who will buy it. Somehow I feel that a simple keyboard is more tough than that monitor
  • 4
I think it was already done in something handheld console. The one running Pokémon.

There has been thousands of concepts about it, even half baked prototypes, the closest to it was the lenovo yoga book iirc

Nice, I've been waiting for the DS XXXXL for years!
  • 3
If it has an ip rating of 99, sure why not?
  • 2
I've never understood why this wasn't ever made yet.

I think it won't be too great for typing though.
  • 2
Battery life 30min, but if you would like to optimize it, turn off the second screen 😑

Needs a tactile keyboard, but otherwise I'm sold.

@fuck2code this message has been typed without looking at the keyboard of my phone.

Its jist a matter of keyboard choice.
  • 2
Haven’t these designs already been implemented in earlier products?
    Acer ICONIA 6120?
  • 3
oh nice! a Nintendo DS XXXXXXL

Prop it up on it's side and use a keyboard for maximum productivity

As soon as I get my hands on this beauty, I would:

    - Somehow stick it flat vertically, left screen for app/reference, right for code.

    - plug in my mechanical keyboard and wired mouse.
  • 3
But but but they already almost have launched Asus Zenbook pro 2018 where trackpad is the second screen

The setup where you use it as dual vertical monitors with an external keyboard is really cool
  • 3
Lenovo Yoga Book already have it
  • 2
Looks really cool, but the average developer's need for key feedback sailed right over Asus' heads.

Cool idea, especially if you can put on your own skins or even something like a htop widget (conky anyone?)

But I personally would hate it... Maybe I could get used to the typing... But I'm probably not going to spend (I don't even want to know how much) just to have a fancy keyboard where I have to relearn how to type fast

I like that Asus is investing in weird stuff though. Something will stick.
  • 2
@Linux I mentioned it above too, but tbf it's not a second display, it's rather keyboard+wacom tablet
  • 4
It is fucking cool, but from a typist point of view: yuck
  • 2
@aquaman wow, now that is something!
  • 2
    @JoshBent
Oh yeah it could be that
  • 3
    Computer says no.
  • 2
You'll have to take my Model M from my dead hands first.
  • 1
    This is a terrible idea.
  • 1
    No no no no no

NO NO NO NO NO NOOOOOOOOOO!

    p.s. virtual keyboard SUCKS!
  • 1
    just visual: IMPRESSIVE!!!
working on an touch keyboard... NO way ever !!

But @aquaman 's proposal ... this fucking got me 😍

    @Alice said it best
  • 1
    @mrgadget @Linux exactly.
Has already been done, and it seems to somehow work.

Can't be worse then apples butterfly keys

I like the idea of a physical keyboard on half of the bottom and a wide touch screen above it. I could have my two git terminals sat there all happy

I have a tablet with a holo keyboard. Yes. Typos everywhere. The mousepad area is also kinda small. Meh. It does it's job though so I'm not mad.
