* The app is almost ready, boss asked me to show the progress.

Boss: The design is bad, I don't like it ๐Ÿค”
Me: I just implemented the design, which is approved
Boss: Really? because I "feel" that the design is bad on the screen.
Me: Okay ๐Ÿ˜, can you tell me what exactly the part to change?
Boss: I don't know, *calls the designer
Designer: *showing his PSDs* yes it is the same, and you [the boss] approved it.
Boss: Ok make some changes to make it feel better.
Me: (Inside: ๐Ÿ˜ก ) ok, have you some suggestions?
Boss: dunno,
Me: at least tell me what is wrong with it
Boss: dunno
Me:๐Ÿคข

This is my worst nightmare when showing ux designs for the first time. "I had trouble finding this button" oh cool np, good point, I'll fix it so that it's on screen when the page loads. "I'd like to be able to create a new user from this screen" sure *writes it down* it's a quick fix to just add a button or modal there.

"It needs to be more modern" well it was nice working with you here's my resignation.

    @ltlian
modern = Use the Apple font and loads of whitespace everywhere. Also huge pictures.

Thats not a boss at all

You just caught your boss redhanded.

    Boss: I don't know.
Me: Okay, well once you do know, come find me and we can talk about it for a future version. This version is 100% to design spec, and it's shipping.

Ultimately the designer is to blame. It shouldn't come to this because it's the designers job to test his solution on users what works best for them. Not for your boss.

Your designer should have the arguments ready to defend his design with evidence.

And a designer that uses photoshop, a tool compley unsuited for doing screendesign is at the wrong place. ๐Ÿ˜’

Me: {to the designer} let me know when you have modified your mockups to his specs

@echonox wow that creepy. Wtf is that thing.

Thats why you need to make sketches and prototypes on devices so that you could test ‘how it feels’ and wouldnt need to waste developers time implementing not well tested design.

That’s why you need to include an obvious, ugly, useless piece of ui when you present it to the boss.
„It’s great, just remove the duck”.

Don't change anything then bring it back in a day and be like is this better?

    You have three options.

You can endure him in masochistic agony passively.

You can school him about leadership, design, feedback and project management. Probably getting fired, but slim chance of improved boss and recognition.

Quit immediately. Highest likelihood of improved work life.

In fact, there are too many bad designers, I already know it by myself. It is extremely difficult to find professionals. Fortunately, I managed to find a company that can implement even the most difficult task and understand it from half a word. This is a rare phenomenon and this service certainly pleases me. I found a design company here https://slidepeak.com , here you can order a good presentation. I have ordered such a presentation specially for my university project. I can say for sure that I addressed to them not in vain and they really helped me to achieve the necessary target goals. Good luck, I hope that I was able to help you with this, because many students have difficulties with this.
