If recruiter contacted you, and when discussing salary, they asked “Why do you think you worth that much?”. What would be the best answer? Does answering with “Oh because I worth that much, as I’ve experienced in using this and that” sounds arrogant?

Not arrogant at all, actually its oposite if you've given them your CV and explained are the projects you've worked on plus what problems you've managed to solve, and in the end if they still ask you think then they are the arrogant ones. Plus if you are constantly contacted by many recruiters then it means you do have skills and wide job options.

@devTea i do agree with @norman70688 always ask 20% higher from what you expect if you have the skills, one of the good things being a developer is that there are always jobs, plus asking higher also makes you look more profesional if the job is proper ofcourse if you ask less they will get the impression that you are beginner in negotions and can't give real price tag so they can manipulate you into accepting even lower offer

Shut them down with a “Cos that’s the industry standard for this role around in this city. I’m sure you’re aware of it” even if you don’t have a ducking clue. They don’t either most of the time and shuts them up. I’ve used this line to great effect so many times.

"Why do you think im not?"

"Because of my skills. Do you think I'm not? You're the one who asked me after all."

I honestly would have basically just said: My CV shows my experience, based on that I price my skills.

I don't give a damn what they want to hear, I doubt they even ask: Why did x price the computer like that? They just read specs and then, oh ok that's it!. Do recruiters, HR ..etc ever email companies on why they price their products like that? No? Then just shut up and carry on with the interview, they read CV/Profile no need for dumb questions when a proof is provided

This reminds me of something similar that happened to me.
A recruiter from a hiring agency called me up recently and asked me a similar question.

Recruiter: so how much are you expecting?

Me: 6-7 LPA

Recruiter: whaaaat, sooooo muuuccchhh.....how can you ask for so much with you experience max you can get is 4.5- 5 LPA *proceeds to berate my resume*

Me: two other recruiters have lined up interviews in line with my expectations, maybe I'm not the one who is bad at his job.

Recruiter:*click* hangs up on me.

*30 mins later*

A different Recruiter from same agency: whaaaat .... Sooooo muuuccchhh....

"Because if I have to deal with you as a colleague, I better be well paid."

"Oh, I'm worth four times that much but I figured since I'll be scratching my balls 90% of the time I might as well give you a discount."

Also I always redirect that question to the headhunter earning almost half of that, it is my way of trolling these fuckheads before I hang up

Actually it sounds like an arrogant question.

Maybe I would answer something not related to tech only, like "you can find many people with experience on this technology, but I'm committed, reliable, proactive etc"

Do your homework anyway and look for average salaries in your region/skill, usually they are available.
And stay aware of tricky questions. Maybe it's the contrary, you showed an impressive cv but you asked too few money. So they are trying to check if you are lying on your expertise.

ah! and don't forget to ask them, why is it worth to work for you, at the salary you offer?
