Linux is just a kernel. But the OSes using it, normally also come with big-ass software repositories and _working_ automatic updates. So "using Linux" normally is easier than using the (sadly discontinued) Windows or their new cloud OS.
But what really gets on my nerve (and is completely unrelated to this rant) is, that people seem to think, that the functional paradigm is inherently inferior to the classic object oriented approach. I am a multi-paradigm person which tends to lean somewhat to the functional side. But i use objects where i need to have multiple functions work on the same well-defined state...
Functional is a valid paradigm in a lot of cases and superior in some. OOP isn't the solution to everything. -
@eval
It is fine that they teach Java.
But it really should only be one of the numerous languages used to teach the paradigm tree in https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/... .
That is a lot of stuff. But universities shouldn't be code monkey sources for Silicon Valley. If they want assembly line workers trained in the current frameworks and ready to implement the next business app doing exactly the same as n already existing apps, they schould have to train them themselves.
Universities should strictly be about advancing the various fields of computer science instead. -
eval6764y@Oktokolo i'd be totally ok with universities being CS only, but as long as a lot of people think you need a CS degree to become software engineer the Situation is different. Otherwise i'd never even go to university.
But i mean at least there are some where you learn things like how to organise large Projects with multiple contributors, how to write clean code and what to look for to get great UX.
Cause that's what i can actually profit from as a programmer - i don't need laplace and vector fields to write programs... Probably never will and if i do i won't remember most of it. -
@eval
A CS degree indeed shouldn't be required for most of the commercial "software engineer" jobs. -
mundo0349114y@eval I am in my second master :(
The Mother is so proud, I need some practice to actually use what I learned ot I will forget it.

most of the time it feels like i'm not competent or smart enough to do my job.
the remaining 1% of the time it feels like i'm the smartest smart that ever smarted. -
"I hate my job! But I love it! But it drives me batshit crazy! Also I demand a salary hike!"
should do it.
