Strange. I like IPAs. Actually having one right now. But I do love experimenting with drinks too.
-
@RememberMe brand name please, I refuse to think that one particular style of beer tastes this bad.
-
@AleCx04 it's called Hazy Little Thing, my roommate got it. It's not *great*, it's just ok. In meant it in the sense that I'm "ok" with that. I think my favourite recent beer has been this Belgian peach lambic beer thing I found (Lindemann's or something).

10Dev28993yAs a proud Marylander, no beer will ever be better than a Natty Boh in my eyes
And yes, IPAs suck -
MM8312393yWhen I was 18 I worked in my local pub and IPA was this joke that you had to hand pump for the two old men who still drank light and bitter (that, mixed with light ale)...twenty odd years later and it's the hippest drink going. I'm with you on not liking it, but people with more money than sense pretend to: it's the NFT of beers.

Old brewerys often needed to sell hence many regional known beers now belong to a large company group and taste differently...
Eg. Heineken and Anheuser-Busch InBev as an example. They bought many regional beer trademarks, sadly.
India Pale Ale is quite dependent on what the taster likes.
There are different portals out there who rank beer and I tend to disagree with most of them :)
I tend to forget names and since Covid I didn't order much (alcohol and being alone is a very stupid idea)
Innis and Gunn Gunpowder IPA is one of the things I can get easily and it certainly does not taste like soap.
What I don't like are all the complete artificial flavored stuff - same for coffee btw.
If it needs to taste like e.g. vanilla though it's a beer it's wrong... -
I wish I could enjoy beer like you.
No matter what beer I try, it’s all disgusting for me. -
If you feel adventurous, you could try "Kölsch" - a slightly alcoholic beverage that seems to be considered to be a "beer" in the Cologne area in Germany.

I've always liked IPAs but getting tired of them lately, especially all this hazy junk taking over the market.
My favorites are The Truth by Flying Dog and Voodoo Ranger Imperial IPA by New Belgium. They're both high 8-9% too, so you have maybe two and you're feeling good ;) The high ABV ones have the benefit of having enough maltiness to balance the strong hop flavor so it might be worth a try for you. -
@spongessuck if you're hitting 8-9% you might as well go a bit higher to 10+% and choose wine instead :)
At least for me, wines > beers in general, especially some of the Californian white wines -
Well the thing is it's fairly easy to brew an IPA, but so many breweries throw in a shit ton of hop and expect it to sell because it is popular. It just ruins the hell out of your tastebuds in the end.
Good IPAs are harder to find because of all the average/terrible ones on the market, but I can tell you there are really good ones where I am from.
I used to like NEIPAs and kveik IPAs but now every shit breweries make them so it's hard to find the good ones. -
@Oktokolo Oh. That stuff. My friend group collectively decided to not view that...stuff...as beer.

Lots of good input here. I will still try an IPA if someone hands me one. I refuse to dislike a beer.
For reference, an old friend of mine told me that my 2 favorite beers should be "free and cold" not necessarily in that order of course. I really love beer, but find it frustrating that can seem to appreciate the flavor of an IPA. This is on me lads, but I will get there one day. -

The big brand on IPA is certainly Brew Dog. They have a lot of hefty and sometimes even off putting tastes.
What your perception of washing up liquid might be, is the fruity sour, sometimes yeasty / hoppy taste.
And also, loads of manufacturers just pouring in dish washer tablets & carcasses.
That shit their 'fancy' business recovering new product tastes.
But they could not taste it themselves and had to call in a fancy sommelier (beer taster) because of their taste buds being burnt off by the amount of alcohol they had screwed into their throat over the decades of brewer and economic incest.
So, the IPA that tastes well and does not kill you over time, as do whiskey, champagne, wine and so on, stay on to be an art form to produce.
I love beer. I like trying things out of my comfort zone. German and Belgian beers are absolutely delish, them mfkers know how to make a good brew. I also like my Japanese and Mexican beers, and even though europeans shit on them all the time, there are tons of American brands I love.
But......for the life of me.....every IPA I take tastes like fucking dishwater soap. From artisanal to regular market brands, everything in between. Fuck me man I can't stand the taste.
Anyone feels the same?
