How long do my fellow devRanters spend per day coding? I will spend about 10 hours per day 6/7 days per week.

I ask this because I'm wondering if I need to re-balance my life choices. I took a whole day off
over the weekend and ended up feeling more rejuvenated coming back to my code this Monday.

That all too familiar cross road, I have an evening to code, I have some key features of a large (work related) project to carry on with but I also have more side projects than I can possibly complete.

Side project or work project? I seem to find myself here most evenings.

I understand devs find it hard to say "I dont know" because our job is about not knowing then knowing through our own accord, but damn, when you dont know. Let that be known, you may be directed or helped. Both you and the task requester will have a good time. And better expectations set.

Say it with me... "I dont know, but-will-look-into-it"

Any advice what you guys consider when changing jobs?

I don't like my current job anymore as it is very chaotic, unstructured and lots of people are leaving. However, people think highly of me and I could get a good salary while having an easy+ safe job. With homeoffice allowed, flexible timemanagement...
Now I got this new offer and it is in a field that is more interesting for me but they are only offering the same salary as I have now, without getting compensation for overtime. Homeoffice will be okay but only after 6 months of probation. I only got to know the CEO and he seems to be cool, but i worry that i might have to work overtime regularly. Also I dont know for sure if the processes will actually be better than in my current workplace. I am still in the beginning of my career so i think i shouldnt stay in the current company for too long but of course i dont want to end up in a place that is worse.

How do you guys make sure you are moving to a better place?

Study: burn out causes in effective ouput.

Co developer: we need to finish this 2 week task in 2 days

Co developer: Working 12 hrs a day
