Me: *pulls down the quick settings drawer and taps Bluetooth*
phone: *forgets everything about having multiple CPU cores and threads - the process responsible for all user input and drawing the ui grinds to a halt*
me: *sighs* oh, fuck, not this shit again *sets phone down*
*several minutes pass*
*watchdog decides that the UI is stuck and kills it, forcing the phone to soft-reboot*
phone: *boots up after a minute of loading*
me: *checks if Bluetooth is on*
*Bluetooth still off*
me: *tries to tap Bluetooth again*
*the procedure repeats*11 -
The good: use the hardware watchdog in your application control flow.
The bad: don't use a watchdog.
The ugly: trigger the watchdog from a fucking timer interrupt.3 -
Before, when you bought $3k Cisco router you got the box that will run indefinitely as long as it has power in about any environment you can go to install it; with or without fans, it had more important business than to give a shit about such things.
Now, when you buy $500k Cisco box you get a over-engineered chassis with 5 separate fan modules with their own firmwares, self tests, watchdog timers and shitload of bugs. It's a fucking fan, it should spin, not do quantum chromodynamic simulations.
Pic related.
Next rant could probably be how Cisco's switch from monolithic to modular linux arhitecture (in order to reduce downtime) turned into having time bombs just waiting to do some crazy shit.2 -
I figured out why FS2020 crashed all the time.
One day when I was just casually playing FS2020, I bluescreened with a watchdog violation. For some reason this corrupted a DLL which was part of my graphics driver which is not required for the output to come out of course. The DLL is “atidxx64.dll”.
Somehow, this went unnoticed.
After digging into the extremely well-hidden crash log I found out that it accuses this DLL file, dug up on it and I saw that it is made by AMD.
Reinstalled the drivers and now it works fine.
FUCK MY LIFE I REDOWNLOADED THIS 95GB SIMULATOR 4 TIMES BEFORE DIVING INTO THIS6 -
Uninstall Avast immediately, it's been found to allow anything access to SYSTEM-level privs because it includes a JavaScript interpreter in its watchdog https://twitter.com/fasterthanlime/...13

In the summer, at the bus stop full of nice girls, I catch very often the IRQ due to my nature. So - the God invented a mechanism called wife - a special, agressive type of Watchdog...
