I suck doing frontend development. I'm slow, and I usually struggle to obtain the results I'm looking for... but today I'm happy because I almost finished the website for one of my side projects:

I'm going out of a long depression, and seeing things done is really helping me to improve my mood and have more energy.

By the way, thanks to the https://getzola.org project, it would have been impossible to me without it.

My smartphone's fingerprint reader just stopped working, after EXACTLY 36 months of usage.

I always took care of this device to make it last, as I'm worried about resources consumption and what the production chain involves (like having working children in African mines).

I'll try to keep using it as long as possible, but I can't stop thinking that this problem shouldn't be always on us, the consumers, suffering defective devices designed to last only for two years.

We should put more pressure on producers to reduce electronic waste, and to invest more on the maintenance & repairing sectors (which are almost non-existent).

Today I officially switched from 5 working days per week to just 4 days. It will be less money, but much more freedom & happiness.

I'm a lucky guy to have this opportunity, but I also put my big chunk of effort to achieve this degree of freedom. And I'm proud for that.

- A girl asks on FB how to deal with a problem in her Windows computer: the system is asking her to introduce the serial key.

- I comment her the possibility of using Linux in case her use cases are simple enough (web, music, videos).

- First reactions are even enthusiastic, some people who had good experiences join the thread to express their delight with Linux.

- Then a guy arrives to tell us how irresponsible we are, telling a poor girl who does not even know how to introduce the serial key... to use Linux (a super complex system!)

- So I tell the guy that Windows is not simple at all, and that most of the times, people just rely o knowing someone else with higher expertise than them, who always end up paying the price of solving the problems caused by Windows, so the users don't really feel how painful is Windows compared to other systems.

- The girl, who was enthusiastic at first, and seems to be not very bright, to say the least, completely misunderstands my answer. She interprets that I'm insulting the poor guys that act as IT service for free, and calls me a "know-all/smartass" (those words are not even close to their Spanish counterpart on pushing down people who know stuff, we are experts on that there, we didn't loose an empire in the 17th century by respecting the wise ones).

This is, in part, why I stopped helping those dumbasses 18 years ago. I forbid myself to learn anything new about Windows (at user level) so I couldn't help these ungrateful and ignorant people who don't make any effort to learn anything by themselves.

Today I met a random guy who contacted me through Facebook to teach him some C++.

He wanted to create a small anomalies detection system on x-ray images with OpenCV (for industry purposes).

The guy came from Nigeria, where he studied medicine, but here has to work on two completely unrelated minijobs to survive.

And he still finds energy to keep learning new crazy stuff like C++ (he definitely chose the hard path to learn some programming).

And that's it, there's no moral for this fable, just a short story. Learn whatever you want from it.
