awesomeest1195324d@superdupernova oh you have no idea... the part i omitted makes this look totally logical. If you or anyone wants to see that im on telegram @awesomeest and discord sara.awesomeest
-
awesomeest1195324d@netikras worst part... its not like i sent him anything, tbh i didn't even look at my display pic til now... just knew it wasnt suggestive in any way cuz its the account i use to chat with employees/linked to everything else by the same moniker as here.
-
netikras34715324d@awesomeest to be fair, from the first glance it seems like your moniker is about amth sweet. Only after having a better look it's apparent it's nothing like that.
But I don't think it's the culprit. At first I thought the chap has the sweets for you, but he's obviously too aggressive.
Idk, maybe he's drunk or trolling you? -
Demolishun34683324dI dunno, block and move on. Sounds like a creeper a bit. He doesn't care about other people's boundaries that you tried to establish.
-
awesomeest1195324d@netikras not drunk and wasnt trolling... it went on for a few days before the end(pic).
This isnt the only time something like this has happened. I get at least a handful of guys like this every year... it's why i want input and a way to label it.
Personally, you cant offend me, just not wired that way. Im also very blunt and direct. These terms just don't fit me in the slightest. Several of my friends have tried to ref to me with names like this... without breaking out in laughter. So far, no winners.
Given that this has happened nearly countless times to me... someone who has no issue telling someone to fuck off, or taking screenshots so my friends can laugh their asses off, it must be happening to people that care/are effected more than me.
@kiki maybe you have a perspective? -
awesomeest1195324d@netikras i also dont get what amth sweet is...
The name awesomeest was made back in 3rd grade. I found out that even adults, knowingly talking to an 8yr old, would be so unsure of spellings that theyd start spelling things the way i did, right or wrong. I used "awesomeest" cuz it wasn't a common word. Even if they had said "awesomest" earlier, theyd change to my, wrong, spelling; i thought it was hysterical. Now it's just sad. But i use it for just about everything... email, xbox, when i played runescape, 3rd grade Neopets, etc. -
Demolishun34683324d@awesomeest is this happening in the main chat or a dm? Is it possible someone is spoofing another account?
In our chats on telegram we get a lot of scammers spoofing other people in the chat. -
awesomeest1195324d@Demolishun this is a frequent poster on devrant. It's not spoofed and he genuinely wanted my help with RHEL.
-
C0D466944324dI wouldn't call it sexual harassment at this point, but it's certainly harassment since you've told him to flog off already!
Sounds like a creeper with a new fixation. -
awesomeest1195324d@C0D4 well the reason im wondering if others view it as sexual harassment is because if it is, in fact, harassment... then technically it'd be sexual harassment because its directly based on my sex/gender. He wouldn't be using those terms with a guy, right?
I've always been annoyed by these terms (not on an emotional level at all) on a basic logical level. All of these terms are so frequently, casually, used with females, and some more fem gay guys... but there really isnt an equivalent that's used the other way around.
Im not some complex gender/sex/identifier... im female, genetically and physically, minus some of the reproductive system. Im technically bi too... that's it. It's just asinine to me. I get that guys are often societally wired to use such terms with females (including with zero sexual inclinations). i just dont get the insistence on using/fighting for those terms when directly rebuffed.
It's potentially demeaning (i think, tbh im pretty clueless w/ vague emotions) -
Demolishun34683324dMaybe this story will help. I had a coworker that was super critical to everything I did. He had what I assume to be imposter syndrome big time and lashed out at people.
One time I was trying to help another guy un-tighten a fire hose coupler (we used petroleum hoses for a robot). I was bracing something with my foot. He grabbed my foot tried to reposition it very abruptly. I was not at all cool with this at all. So I dropped my voice into a deep tone and said, "Don't ever touch me again." He stood up and looked so triggered that someone could tell him what to do. He looked like he wanted to fight. He continued to act like a child for days after that. But he never crossed that line again. Eventually he quit that company, just disappeared. He was easily the most difficult person I have ever worked with. I was not about to give him license to violate my personal space. I think speech can be the same way. It will only get worse over time. -
Demolishun34683324d@Demolishun another coworker said, "He does that to me all the time." I told him to stand up for himself. I am not sure he listened.
-
shovethisrant5978323dUnless they are stalking you and trying to hunt you down or posting lewd pics or any other type of *actual* harassment behavior, this is not sexual harassment. It’s just called them being a creep. You can just block them lol. Sexual abuse and harassment are fairly serious accusations…
-
awesomeest1195323d@shovethisrant oh im not making any accusations aside from the factual ones i literally spelled out.
dont get the wrong idea, i dont feel threatened or anything like that. im simply just trying to gauge wtf to call crap like that, and what other people think about it.
anytime ive shown this stuff to friends (nearly all male) they just marvel at the stupidity with me. i honestly find it fascinating... i mean seriously... what does it take for someone to think this is a logical way to behave and/or hit on someone???
imo its kinda like the dudes who send random dick pics or, despite being on a platform where several females directly make fun of the losers sending them or using as a pfp(18+ ofc)... they still do it and act surprised they are single -
shovethisrant5978323d@awesomeest yeah I get what you mean. Idk what you would call them - horny-creep-who-never-goes-outside maybe?
-
TeachMeCode5161323dHopefully he doesn’t live somewhat near you. Am I the only one who found it suspect that he asked if you like pork? I think that’s another way of asking if you like dick which I’m no lawyer but that’s REALLY NOT something you’d ask a woman you don’t know, let alone the “hey babe you got cute eyes” stuff, i would definitely get smacked across the face if I did that in person.
Then again for all I know you were discussing favorite cuisines. But then again asking if you like pork sounds like its going from commenting on your eyes to asking if he can put a dick in you to put it blunt -
shovethisrant5978323d@TeachMeCode it might be a religious thing but yeah I would definitely not give any personal information to this guy
-
TeachMeCode5161323d@shovethisrant true. Then again she’s not Jewish or Muslim, from what I read from her replies to me she went to Catholic school. Pork is another name for stickin the boner. With all the other smoochy crap he wrote I wouldn’t be surprised if that’s what he was asking. Guy is a total creep who disrespects women
-
awesomeest1195323d@TeachMeCode the pork thing was related to a claim he made of being able to "fix" and cure my "severe" immune issues... with no other context or info
-
TeachMeCode5161323d@awesomeest so he has the magic cure for your autoimmune issues then? He’s just a dumbass, probably makes it a goal to stalk you from his mom’s basement
-
awesomeest1195323d@TeachMeCode tbh, im very well versed in most world religions. I went to catholic school (pre k-12) in Dearborn MI (aka the arabic/muslim capital of north America). I also was learning (still am) several languages. So i ended up deep diving into islam and several other world religions. Ive actually become friends with some Imams and Islam scholars, even been invited to give lectures on islam.
Im not actually religious though. My general view is simple... if there is some magic white-bearded man in the clouds granting wishes, if he dooms anyone for not guessing the right religion, he can fuck off.
Any god id ever respect enough to give a shit about would care about intent and impact... not if you ate pork, drank liquor, enjoyed sex(any consensual variety) or guessed/prayed correctly. -
awesomeest1195323d@TeachMeCode oh... there was soooo much more. Im trying to get an unbiased viewpoint though lol
-
PepeTheFrog1229323dScrew with him.
Tell him you daily consume Halal pork and occasionally sacrifice children to the old gods so they can temporarily upgrade your internet connection so you can download thrice as much hardcode non-binary fury porn in 4k with flak audio, to which you will listen to in reverse on a cathodic TV screen while cooking goat cheeze filled frittata, which is legally required according to your family's lawyer... so you basically got your hands tied. -
TeachMeCode5161323d@awesomeest don’t know what to say. He thought someone like you would take the bait and think this basement dweller who probably can’t tell his ass from his nostrils made medical history with his magic cure. Probably runs one of those behind the dumpster clinics with his van full of rusty tools and his “medical degree” from the University of Phoenix Online School of Chinese Ancient Medicine and Herb Dancing. He probably would’ve crushed a dead mouse into powder as a cure
-
AlgoRythm50164323dI think it's *sexist* harassment, but not *sexual* harassment. He's never explicitly sexual towards you, but he's definitely demeaning you and minimizing you due to your gender.
-
SidTheITGuy9618323d@superdupernova Nah simp, I know you want to be the shining knight for OP acting like a saviour, but yeah that ain't happening lol.
Kill myself? Nah, where's the fun in that? It's much more enjoyable to see you cry into a pillow over what I say.
Get rekt bitch tits simp. -
SidTheITGuy9618323d@superdupernova HOLY SHIT you actually deleted your last post? Oh man, it was actually starting to get fun. What a cowardly cunt you are.
SMH You can't even start a fight properly. @aviophille please teach him the ways. -
NeatNerdPrime4318323d@awesomeest this creature is just a narcissistic asshole that cannot take no for an answer. Seems to also have a lot of stocks In a gaslighting company providing him with the verses for attempting to fool others...
If I were you I'd simply block and report that pitiful vermin. -
awesomeest1195323d@PepeTheFrog the pork question was for sure related to some non-factual pseudoscience on gut health.
-
awesomeest1195323d@PepeTheFrog also, i firmly believe in not propagating stupidity and incorrect word usage. Non-binary is simply asinine... everyone here should know, its non-bool
-
awesomeest1195323d@SidTheITGuy i highly doubt that my investors, partners, employees and clients would agree with you. But youre still using the wrong term. Im clearly more of a "slut" than "whore"... getting paid would be a huge turnoff.
-
hjk1015696322dIf it goes on for days after asking for using a slightly more professional tone. I would say this is harassment. Plain and simple.
I've been cheeky myself, can always appreciate some banter and can't stand the everything is crossing a line attitude. However if someone is not amused by it, it must stop. -
awesomeest1195322d@hjk101 im similar to you. my main issue here is a query. Ive come across several people like this. Fortunately, any professional dealings with this kinda nonsense, haven't been real issues. Ive always been the one in a position of power; anything ive put my foot down on is reapected... if not, either someone is fired or, the very few times it's been the client themselves, me leaving (or even the threat of that) is a reeeeally bad situation for them.
I just am curious why this crap goes on. The vast majority of the time the culprit has been similar to this one... specifically the fact that they simply dont realise they are in the wrong or that anyone can/would even consider that. This guy essentially called me a liar and toxic, cuz acc to him, he's doing me a favour -
TeachMeCode5161322d@awesomeest are you still getting lovey dovey messages from this Romeo dude or did he shut up since yesterday?
-
awesomeest1195322d@TeachMeCode i just went to check (had him muted) and apparently he deleted the chat and removed me... so he's definitely seen this thread lol
-
TeachMeCode5161322d@awesomeest nice to know, hopefully that asshole creep will back off and sell his crushed mouse powder to someone else
-
awesomeest1195322d@TeachMeCode tbh i have nothing against him. I just think he needs a reality check. If he were to msg me any version of acknowledgement that he was mistaken (seriously, wouldn't even req an apology) and then wanted to chat about the actual shit we started talking about (dev shit), id have no issue engaging again.
Im certainly not one to hold unintended ignorance against someone... hell ive done tons of shit out of ignorance. im still not sure if i was a bully back in my school days. -
TeachMeCode5161322d@awesomeest makes sense, I got my impression from those screenshots that he’s some random guy who found your number after stalking you online and wanted to play cat and mouse
-
TeachMeCode5161322d@jestdotty interesting stuff. She’ll be fine and it looks like he gave up. Definitely not someone I would ever want around though, but then again im only going by that short blurb of texts
-
TeachMeCode5161322dTbh I don’t even know what to say about this guy. All I know is he was hitting on her. I don’t know where’s he’s from, for all I knew he was a lifelong friend who got drunk and started texting this. It could be anything from a close friend trolling her to a sadistic crazy rapist on the loose. If he keeps this up, maybe call the cops?
-
awesomeest1195322d@TeachMeCode no... this dude was someone off devrant. someone who's typically very active.
-
awesomeest1195322d@jestdotty the food stuff was in relation to him asking what medical issues i had. i told him " severe immune issues" and his instant response " i can fix that" and a few more messages telling me anecdotal evidence of his amazing ability to cure any immune issues... along with stating that he has " 2 cancers" that he is trying to cure himself. the hysterical irony is that cancer IS an immune issue.
i ofc told him that was insane because he didnt know anything about me, the actual issues... much less what ive already tried since it's been effecting me my entire life... pork consumption is one of the trendy things being blamed for poor gut health.
frankly, i kinda wish hed have stopped with the cat-call-esq names so i couldve used him like an interactive podcast while multitasking... i find morons of that calliper highly amusing. -
awesomeest1195322d@b2plane im blonde... definitely not interested in you. idk how to comment on the hot part since im not attracted to myself and any amount of " guys say im hot" is anecdotal at best, so here's the same pic that's my current telegram one.
pic is NOT a sign of interest in you, especially in any sexual manner. -
awesomeest1195322d@TeachMeCode sadistic assholes tend to be much more down to earth than this guy. tbh they tend to be more my type, male or female.
-
awesomeest1195322d@jestdotty forgot these...
we didnt even get to the helping him part... he wouldnt cut the crap. i didnt even wanna be typing in english...
the immune issues... im curious if you realise that youre likely autistic? i hadnt directly mentioned this to you due to some of the first comments you addressed to me on autism... but im pretty sure you are. immune issues are apparently much more common in autistic people too. this is something ive only seen in the past couple years. im curious on your lactose tolerance now too. i became lactose intolerant quite suddenly years ago. whilst mentioning it, it seems im not the only autistic person who developed lactose tolerance issues. -
TeachMeCode5161321d@awesomeest My allergies to cow-boob juice started as a teen. I can still eat cheese and icecream without any issue, but liquid form gives me nasty clear the room farts for 24 hrs at least. Last summer I took a walk and was lurching with my hand on my abdomen lol. Yeah i had a bowl of cereal with lactaid but even that shook up my tract
-
awesomeest1195321d@TeachMeCode things like cheese (especially the hard ones like parmasean) and cream actually have less lactose than milk. Youre not "allergic" to it though. Lactose intolerance is simply lacking enough lactase enzyme to break down the lactose you consume. Allergies are much different and occur because your immune system sees something as a threat.
-
awesomeest1195321d@TeachMeCode eat a lactase supplement. brand names are like lactaid... but most stores have some generic "dairy aid". As long as its "lactase" that's all that matters.
You should probably not take lactase too much/too often cuz you could train your body to stop producing lactase itself... but if you want to eat lactose and not have gi issues... it's good to have.
You (and most current humans) probably should take probiotics and/or regularly eat some yogurt... gut bacteria is important -
Demolishun34683321d@awesomeest I had that issue with melatonin. Took a few days to sleep normal again.
-
TeachMeCode5161321d@awesomeest thanks for the tip. In fact I think there’s a link between neurological differences like adhd and digestion, there’s variations in the digestive tract that aren’t seen in most people. But there’s crazy evidence that the digestive tract is like brain #2.
-
TeachMeCode5161321d@Demolishun I used to be a light sleeper but late 30’s prevents me from getting away with it without being the most inept person on the planet. Usually what keeps people up is racing thoughts (at least I think) but for me it’s appetite and hunger. I wake up with hunger pangs and boom there I am grabbing chicken legs, meatballs, ice cream like Garfield the cat lol
You’d think the more common sense solution would work (eat a lot before sleep) but that never does it for me -
TeachMeCode5161321d@awesomeest He eats everything, but yeah lasagna is his fav (mmmmmmmm u make my chef boyardee blood jump…me like lasagna! stuff that with spinach and ricotta and I’ll be a happy guy lol) What keeps me up is my appetite at night. So I raid the fridge, fall asleep and wake up hungry again. while(itsNightTime)
-
TeachMeCode5161321dOOOOH it’s starting!! So hungry….making 4 eggs and bagel and almost sucked the raw egg out of the shell. I’m that hungry for food.
Wait! I think I have an idea…I bought 15 lbs of russet potatoes and after eating just one with breakfast I started feeling REEEALLLY full. It killed my appetite on the spot. Something about these potatoes -
awesomeest1195321d@jestdotty a lot of those mild 'allergies' you mentioned seem like angioedema https://pennmedicine.org/for-patien....
Ive had angioedema since i was a little kid. Im officially diagnosed with "idiopathic hives" right alongside my "idiopathic fevers". I find it ironic that you can be "diagnosed" with anything starting in "idiopathic" since it's essentially 'we have no clue why the fuck this happens'.
Im similar with animal dander and about 1/3 of the time that i get a dog or cat scratch its raised and swollen for days. Mosquito bites can get to baseball size but if i have over 4 or 5 im needing the ER to treat the fevers, vomitting, migraines and dizziness. -
awesomeest1195321d@jestdotty
Autism, by the etymology definition, is literally functioning by your own devices/self-contained. Comes from greek "autos"... like most things with that prefix.
Neurologically, there's often a smaller part of the brain used for social interaction and increase in other areas. The physical changes in the brain, per my last knowledge, were only easy to define via autopsy.
The traits that seem to align are a grab bag of: adhd, ocd, not conforming to typical social norms on engaging with others, dyslexia, sensitivity to textures and/or textiles(anything tactile)... sensitivity to stimuli in general... light, sound, smells.
This is mostly accurate: https://nhs.uk/conditions/autism/...
Taking the actual autism tests the last time (~4yrs ago) i had to mentally rephrase things like 'what would my friends answer about me'. I got to sensitivity to textiles, rephrased, realising my friends answer would = 'duh, you dont wear clothes!' ...pretty clear then lol -
TeachMeCode5161321d@jestdotty you’re still not lactose intolerant? That’s cool, you must have Scandinavian blood. I’m overwhelmingly mediterranean descent so lactose intolerance is a must have for me lol
Oh while we’re here disability discrimination is real. I remember in late 2022 I was on boarding with my new full stack engineering role and mentioned in my bio for the company’s magazine that I have ADHD. HR had a Slack call with me telling me not to mention those things and asked me if I’m sure it won’t have a negative effect on performance (and I haven’t even done anything yet so they had no reason to question my abilities) and for some strange reason sent me a form to sign saying they have every right to reduce my salary or outright terminate my employment if my disability proves detrimental.
And YES this is in the USA. Where it’s illegal to discriminate -
awesomeest1195321d@TeachMeCode well if you intend to claim a disability as a reason for *whatever* and you didnt inform them of said disability, it's their right. If you were blind and did all your coding by audio, theyd have a right to know as thered likely be things to consider... like if you took tons longer cuz u needed it via audio... the extra conditions for relaying info, etc.
-
TeachMeCode5161321d@awesomeest yeah this is why I lie on job applications when they ask if I have a disability. I simply put “no”. Because I know they will reject me and simply say “I’m not a good fit” when in reality I am, it’s them not wanting to risk hiring a disability
-
TeachMeCode5161321dBut I was showered in confidence when I let the cat out of the bag regarding my adhd bc I got a 1.5x salary increase from the role I had prior
-
awesomeest1195321d@TeachMeCode see that's the issue... if you tell them it doesnt exist you cant be mad at them for covering their asses when you suddenly claim it does exist.
Personally, id never list adhd or autism as a disability... im really physically disabled (l arm and l leg are less than functional) but even having 1 available hand for typing doesn't make me slower than most-- i type near 70wpm. -
awesomeest1195321d@TeachMeCode
Saying u didnt put adhd on the form because they didnt wanna risk hiring with adhd is totally unfair... you didnt give them the chance to even make that choice.
Frankly, adhd devs are extremely common... look at the majority of devs. Hyperfocusing and pumping out tons of otherwise boring code is what adhd devs do much better at than neurotypicals.
also, i think you may be connecting dots that are irrelevant. -
TeachMeCode5161321d@awesomeest true. It’s a variation in brain functioning, it’s not like having intellectual disability or low iq which impacts learning adapting and gaining new skills quickly. Don’t know why they made me sign something saying they have a right to lower my salary or fire me for performance. Kind of a waste of my time. That should be standard for anyone. If you can’t perform, of course you would have to be cut loose. It’s not against anything to fire for performance. So they would do just that if i fuck up too often.
And I wouldn’t try to sue them bc they would have shit to back them up and I would lose easily. -
TeachMeCode5161321d@awesomeest I did that for every place I apply for, not just my current place. I always say “no” under “do you have a disability” bc I don’t want to risk them not hiring me because of it
-
TeachMeCode5161321dIt’s true a lot of devs have it, but I’m not sure how many places are aware. So I’m not going to risk them throwing out my other qualifications bc they think people with this diversion are like Bart simpson running around not paying attention to what they have to do
-
awesomeest1195321d@TeachMeCode see but people like you assuming this shit is the problem... its specifically why companies can get away with this shit. Having you sign something AFTER you made it a known issue is common sense. Doesnt matter if YOU arent the type to sue and claim it was discrimination, most of humanity is... and if you had a family to support and suddenly no job, stats are youd sue them too... so ofc u had to sign something
-
awesomeest1195321d@jestdotty not sure what the nope was to but its still sounding like angioedema imo.
-
TeachMeCode5161321d@awesomeest about adhd allowing us to be boring code factories, my adhd hates it when I’m given boring tasks, i tend to let my one point jira tickets stretch between sprints and hyperfocus on the interesting ones. Even when I get to the tiny tickets, I find myself wanting to refactor the hell out of any code they interact with (including unit tests bc refactoring without tests is crazy lol). But yeah I can see why it can lead to gunning out rote code for some, it depends on where the hyperfocus goes, it doesn’t make them any less of a dev than me
-
TeachMeCode5161321d@jestdotty I never even signed it. I thought it was a waste of my time. If I don’t perform well, they can fire me. They never brought it up since October of 2022. It was basically saying they have the right to reduce my salary or let me go if my adhd impacts performance. I thought it was silly bc that’s standard for anyone, not performing is an obvious and legit reason to fire. So I didn’t sign it. awesomeest brought it up that it’s bc it’s common for people with disablites to take places that fired them to court over discrimination when in reality they couldn’t cut the mustard, so I can kinda see why they wanted it signed
-
TeachMeCode5161321d@jestdotty true, my hyperfocus is always there, it goes into certain things and I spend hours which is why I don’t want to get married or have kids bc that would be less time for my goals
-
Demolishun34683321d@TeachMeCode did they ask you if you are disabled in the USA? Is ADHD a disability?
-
TeachMeCode5161321d@Demolishun yep. This is a 100 percent USA based software services company. Its not even affiliated with any place outside the US. ADHD is at times regarded as a disability, but it’s more of a variation in how the brain works (of course so is low IQ, but that’s a variation that hampers your ability to learn so it IS a disability)
It affects how much attentional resources you put into things. Alot of things that people think are important and relevant aren’t relevant to us. -
TeachMeCode5161321d@jestdotty yep. Just that there are people out there who will try to pull that off, even though they have no chance of winning bc they would have to fight against a legit reason for firing which is not being the right fit for the role. That’s what she was saying. I get it, but I’m never ever going to be honest about my ADHD in future job apps bc it does nothing to add to my application whatsoever, all it does is put me at risk for rejection if it comes down to me vs another candidate who has similar qualifications but doesn’t have adhd. I’m not saying everyone is like that, some would be more open but im still saying “no” to that question of disability
-
Demolishun34683321d@TeachMeCode
https://eeoc.gov/laws/guidance/...
If they asked about your disability they broke the law. They also cannot discriminate if you have a disability. If ADHD is a disability and they treated you differently due to that, then they broke the law. I would say asking about this on a form and attempting to coerce you to sign something is discrimination. -
TeachMeCode5161320d@Demolishun I think disability to some neurotypicals can mean inability to be normal. I didn’t meet anyone’s qualifications for normal throughout my whole life.
-
awesomeest1195320d@jestdotty ok...
1- autotelic...idk what youre thinking of but this is in line with what i immediately thought and the first page of google https://etymonline.com/search/...
2- autistic brain... i didnt say they use less... that part of the brain in a high percentage of autistics was innately(not inherently) smaller... size, not activity.
@jestdotty
3- genetics.
Adhd and ocd (as per my last knowledge) do not currently have an identified genetic marker, and do have a similar rate/pattern of inheritance to autism. People with autism have a MUCH higher rate to be adhd and/or ocd. Personally, i and 2 close autistic friends with vastly different *everything else* all have adhd and ocd.
Autism has been somewhat defined genetically. As per my last dive, there was between 54 and ~80 genetic markers (the vast majority being mutations, and in the small studies that checked the parents as well, there was some inheritance) the more of these markers, the more likely youre autistic. -
TeachMeCode5161320dI never knew a dev chat app would change my pov of adhd but it’s doing a damn good job with it
-
awesomeest1195320d@jestdotty
Dyslexia... im very curious about sudden dyslexia... and what you think cured it.
It also makes me wonder (only initially as there's a lack of info) if maybe youve just coped through dyslexia so you have enough learned workarounds that you wouldn't notice any issues. Personally, i was like that back in school...also imo why dyslexia wasnt bothering me like it typically would others. I was reading books upside-down since 1st grade (by high school i realised that it drew attention and people assuming i was trying to be rude or funny... so avoided it unless i had a headache/stopped giving a fuck cuz it wasnt worth it for whatever reason (like a test i could keave after completing and i had shit to do))
I also started recognising the etymological patterns in at least 1st grade... catholic school provided some random latin (i was even an alter server a few years... still didn't believe in it), and encyclopaedias had words from lots of languages (read all 3 1/2 sets b4 4th gr) -
awesomeest1195320d@jestdotty the love being overwhelmed... that's honestly the holy grail in my life. VERY few things can spam my brain enough to let me focus. If i try to read a coding manual that's like 600pgs (not the old small text on bible page style ones that are in the thousands) and its for a language ive never seen before... if i do what normies do to read/learn... 8+ hrs and retain very little unless i wrote it all down (which is way more time)... with music in a different language... that im actively listening to/singing along with... and watching my 20 live crypto charts, occasionally responding to employees etc... then its 2hrs and i can explain it to you chapter by chapter from memory... only thing i dont reeeeally know is some syntax... like which order. If i have a small pocket guide i can easily start writing more complex code than it taught immediately... and quick/well engineered very few bugs or syntax errors... which go down to almost none pretty quickly
-
awesomeest1195320d@jestdotty the trade off for signing is that they dont immediately fire you for lying on your application.
-
awesomeest1195320d@TeachMeCode that sounds like a personal choice... not an adhd issue. If you refuse to manage when you hyperfocus vs when you dont... that's self-destructive af. My business has so many neurodivergents that we actually need to hire a few token neurotypicals or it may look like we are excluding.
Id NEVER seriously employ someone who has the ability to hyperfocus but doesnt choose to manage it. Imho it's immature as hell, self-destructive and disrespectful of anyone who cares about you, has faith in you, relys on you or has given you an opportunity.
Im not saying this as a holier than thou argument... that thing i told u awhile ago about the near 5 days on a piece and a half of pizza and mtn dew... that was a mistake... one that hadnt happened in years and was a domino effect from something dumb-- not ordering more carrot juice b4 hyperfocus.
Im the owner. i dont need anyone's approval. i also dont need to be told i fucked up and should always prove to my team im not doing it again. -
awesomeest1195320d@jestdotty the article i linked you to... it was marked as angioedema "without hives"... i also mentioned my idiopathic hives when ref angioedema. The "skin" has a wide definition. My cousin would get angioedema in her lips and sometimes tongue when shed eat pinapple. I used to get a swollen throat from angioedema without a known trigger so often that i was constantly prescribed a medrol dose pack (days of a lot of strong steriods) so i didnt need to go to ER or urgent care to get a steriod injection and a script for the same dose pack.
When i had mono and strep throat simultaneously, a few organs rapidly swelled... that was attributed to whatever causes angioedema... my dr and a couple specialists said theyd seen similar things happen with a history of angioedema. -
awesomeest1195320d@jestdotty The most basic way i can explain angioedema is: it's an errant response to something that's currently being seen as an allergen/threat by your immune system. It more often when youre in a weakened state.
Like a true allergy:
Reacts w/ various immune cells (monocytes, granulocytes, macrophages, lymphocytes && MAST CELLS)
CAN be caused by the same stimuli repeatedly(my cousin's pinapple, my mosquito bites and our on/off reaction to dander and/or scratches)
Antihistamines sometimes help
Unlike true allergies:
Typically doesnt get exponentially worse reiterated.
Adrenaline is less effective.
Steroids= MUCH more effective
It's often idiopathic & unpredictable.
The symptoms can vastly change, hives, swelling at site, nothing, mild to moderate (not Typically extreme. i know someone very well, thought she was allergic to peanuts since childhod. turns out the intense smell of peanuts caused swelling thatd trigger asymptomatic migranes. 1 benadry=can consume 100s of peanuts. -
awesomeest1195320d@jestdotty There's a type of angioedema that occurs from C1 certase inhibitor deficiency. It can be inherent or caused/worsened later in life. Idk if you've been tested for it, if not maybe ask your GP their opinion.
This is what id call a light version of a true medical publication for peer review. Idk your level of comprehension but youre welcome to ask for an explanation (or a link to an official one) if there's something you don't get.

awesomeest1195320d@TeachMeCode umm... i think you need to learn the difference between neurodivergent conditions and IQ... they ARE NOT both variations in thought process.
-
TeachMeCode5161320d@awesomeest yes I know I’ve been lazy to work on that hyperfocus thing but you made me out to be trash who doesn’t respect the people who gave me an opportunity. I tend to focus first on more interesting tasks before cleaning up the small ones, and yes that is a problem I get it but that extra stuff about me being that evil creature who chews on those poor individuals who only wanted to give me a chance wasn’t really needed. And it’s not like procrastinating those other tasks have been super detrimental to the overall project where the client is screaming for them to be done

awesomeest1195320d@Demolishun i know where youre coming from but youre a bit off.
They "asked" not insisted. The spot on an application to put any disabilities is technically, by law, not required to answer. They use specific phrasing to walk a gray line... but if you ever find an electronic form with a drop down/selection, thats required to submit and it only has yes, no (in whatever format) no N/A, refuse to answer, etc... then THAT is illegal.
Essentially they are legally asking if youd like to disclose any disabilities... but not phrasing it easily for ignorant people to realise that. So, you can list your disabilities or answer "no"... but if you leave out a disability or lie with "no" then they can fire you the same as if you put you graduayed from MIT with a doctorate but have a community college associates in drama. -
awesomeest1195320d@Demolishun @TeachMeCode
This is annoying me now. I cant/wont disclose (especially publicly)specifically how/why I know this... but the gist is, I've had a career in business consulting, some kinda high profile, international and the type where ive had access to nearly everything... especially things like skeletons in the closet.
Now, i cant say I have the perfect, unskewed, sample of companies to know for sure that most or all companies are like this... but ive certainly had far beyond the sample size, scope, and access level that most high level professionals ever will.
So, from my experience, imho...
You're both (and most of society is) wrong.
Im not saying there arent companies that are run by bigotry and dumbasses making stupid decisions that hurt them monetarily... ofc there are... theyd be easier to find if people were honest on forms and less ignorant..
2 b continued... -
awesomeest1195320d@TeachMeCode @Demolishun
What ive seen:
Most companies are terrified of the media/legal shitstorm of doing anything against the ADA guidelines (or similar version in their country(s))
disabilities= they tend to give anyone an interview if they meet the bare minimum criteria (so often much lower than posted reqs)
Yea, some are interviews for show, some even make some low-rung hr deal with them... but in MOST cases, they are told to, and do, send an app up the chain if that person seems great... regardless of any disabilities(aside from ones that absolutely will impact performance... like brain damage or lack of limbs for a warehouse job)
So with big disabilities(like low-limb'd warehouse workers) they actually try to find a way to hire them. Why? PR and government support (its 'proof' the system is working and the gov gets to save a disability check and often some less kosher back scratching & co. gets a PR friendly statistic)
Capitalism supports qualified, disabled ppl. -
awesomeest1195320d@awesomeest oh... and for physical handicaps or anything theyd need to hire or buy/build additional resources to facilitate... well that's more tax credits and better PR that's quietly in everyone's face saying how great and inclusive they are.
Not saying businesses innately have a heart and morals to do the 'right' thing.
I'm simply stating that (despite the fact i cant/wont publicly prove this) im actually an expert in this field (even moreso than dev abilities). Ive seen some asinine af practices... and gotten several of the high ups that kept that shit going fired. Not because of any morals or societal feeling of duty...
im a capitalist... most hatred towards capitalism is because of asinine practices. Ive proven many times over that there's better quality, efficient work and monetary gain if you dont do dumb shit that makes your workforce hate you and the scum of media get reeeeally interested in you. It's why ive been so well paid. -
TeachMeCode5161320d@awesomeest ok so outside the possibility of being let go for being caught lying about it (I had no idea it was bad, I thought it gets serious if you claim you were at Meta then they find out you were an intern at Bob Schmo’s Backyard Software Garage) I’ve actually been told to say yes in the past to this question. What held me back was possibly them going with someone else who’s also as qualified but doesn’t have ADHD. I really don’t care about the getting caught lying thing bc I’ll keep shush about it in my next gig and not even bring it up but if most places think they’ll be better off hiring someone with this condition, I’ll click yes. And regarding the place that found out I lied, I must’ve done well enough to make up for that lie. Other places might not be as patient lol
-
TeachMeCode5161320dI used to rank that disability question as low as the “what’s your race” as just another demographic thing to plug into their charts to check to see if they meet diversity requirements so I never took lying on it seriously lol then again of course I would never lie about being black when i have a surname from a certain boot shaped country in Europe and they can see a white guy on my LinkedIn…but lying about adhd is less obvious…obviously! Fuck, i really hate having to play HR chess I’m not a damn lawyer I’m a software engineer i don’t read long legal gibberish. Part of why I went into computer science after giving up pre Med lol. More creativity less things to read. Anyway I’m stressed as hell bc now I have someone who is very knowledgable saying I’ll be better off saying “yes” but I’m all shooken up bc I’m not convinced adhd is understood and recruiters will reject me bc they think I’ll be too scatterbrained.
-
TeachMeCode5161320dWait is adhd correlated with health issues? I have weird body issues as well…I’m in my late 30’s and…I’m still growing! Yes it’s not fat growth…my bones and muscles are getting bigger and people complemented that I’m getting taller. I don’t even need to lift weights, though I used to live in the weight room in my 20’s making the barbell shake with the 45’s clank on the barbell lol. Beautiful sound lol
-
TeachMeCode5161320d@jestdotty actually now that I’m reading that sober, I meant physiological variations. Getting bigger at least the way I am isn’t really a health issue unless it reaches extreme levels. I think I’m just growing reeeealllly sloooooowly
-
TeachMeCode5161320dI was out of the heavy weight lifting days for many years when I was throwing heavy barbells around with my three favorite exercises-bench overhead press and squat lol. Now for some reason I’m gaining muscle (not fat) in my shoulders arms chest hamstrings and even calves are bulgin out. Plus my rib cage expanded. It’s not something like fluid retention as I feel solid mass and I can flex it. I don’t have heart failure
Then again those groups were always my strongest. My hamstrings dominate my quads, it’s like I look like I’m on stilts when you see me from the front but from the side you see those strings peek out like one of those track runners lol -
TeachMeCode5161320dStarting to realize that I’m getting deep insights about my condition and the inner workings of HR that could alter my future (aka not concealing my disability in a job app) from an app that angry devs use in a thread about some Romeo dude shaking his dick at @awesomeest after getting his server setup lol. It’s still valuable info 😅😅

Demolishun34683320d@awesomeest according to the website I linked they cannot even ask. It spells it out clearly in this section:
"Can an Employer Require Medical Examinations or Ask Questions About a Disability?" -
TeachMeCode5161320d@Demolishun what??? That’s interesting. It’s such a common question though…..that statement might have a different meaning to it or tons of companies are breaking that law.
-
TeachMeCode5161320dI’ll tell you all this, if today was October something 2022 I would be scared shitless lol. My heart would be racing every time i try to login to my workstation expecting that ominous message saying “your organization has locked your account” or something lol. I mean that would be a let go with cause I think so no unemployment benefits
-
TeachMeCode5161319d@jestdotty here’s a list of other cool stuff that came with my ADHD I was diagnosed with (not just “I think I have it bc a buddy saw me actin weird”)
-GAD aka generalized anxiety disorder
-Central auditory processing disorder
-expressive language disorder (i tend to stammer quite a bit and sound like a dumbass uuurrrr uhhhhh uuuurrr)
-issues with vision, I need glasses and can’t drive without them
-slight curvature of the spine
-I have a little tinnitus but it’s barely noticeable, probably related to the Audio disorder. It has to be dead dead quiet and isn’t too consistent or constant
I actually was tested for autism but didn’t meet enough requirements to get the dx.
Physically I’m in damn good shape, had some high blood pressure readings but was stressed. -
awesomeest1195319d@TeachMeCode lying on resume/app is bad(illegal and grounds for immediately firing you).
As an employer, if im at all biased itd be towards the adhd and autistics... assuming they have their shit together(for anyone) or if young/naïve/green/etc id need to consider the effort and likelihood thered be to get them up to a lower risk/higher value (which in my expert opinion, also includes shit like them having habits that promote sanity and health, enjoying their work, etc)
But hey im certainly not neurotypicals... current core team is 3 autistics 1 guy whos like a few a few watts on the spectrum and looks like a somewhat pissed santa claus (just naturally) and a doggo... we actually need to hire some neurotypical females (im only female... and also the owner) because we're approaching lack of diversify via too many neuro atypicals -
TeachMeCode5161319d@awesomeest i get it 😁 no need to drill it! I’ve always known that in general, but didn’t know the disability lying was as bad as lying about your experience. I totally get it now. They never took any action since then, probably due to performing well enough to offset that and well liked by the team. I know what (not) to do next time I’m applying, not everyone will be as nice to me.
-
TeachMeCode5161317d@awesomeest those new jr devs (one is in Burma right?) are lucky to start with you, not envious just feeling good for them bc I had a rough ride when I was starting out. You’re offering a) paid training, b) USEFUL training and c) you know how neurodivergants work bc you’re one. They need a Yoda, someone who can spray their PR’s (assuming you do pull requests) with comments.
I always learned best from professors and more senior devs who took my code and wiped their asses with it crushing my ego and ending the day feeling like the dumbest human being ever to touch a compiler. In comp sci II my first assignment was SO BAD my prof wanted a little meetup with me after class and she even used my code as an example of what NOT to do. I ended her class with an A, no curve or bonus treats.
Even now as a more experienced dev my tech lead whips my ass and I’m getting stronger -
jeeper5810284dAt work in Canada or US, this likely meets the bar for sexual harassment. In non work settings, it is grounds for a restraining order if you know the necessary details. Inal

Is This Sexual Harassment!?!?
I won't publicly reveal who is the other person in this convo. I just want genuine opinions.
For reference, the convo started in another language, and quick mention of their fondness for my eyes... i simply ignored with 'lol' and chatted on and off for some hours... next time it was in english with use of " darling", which I simply stated wasnt something anyone who knew me would say.
they claimed it was just british... it's not. I actually use UK spellings due to working for years for UK based companies.
back in the other language... ' angel' , 'princess', *some equivalent of a small rabbit*,...me once again, more directly, asking why and saying no/they are irrelevant to me, to each.
the next part was hysterical, but to not out the person or skew opinions, that's being omitted.
the following came after me running out of time so it needed to be a call or i needed to mute them. they got muted.
SOOO,,,,
IS THIS SEXUAL HARASSMENT???
my dev friend/partner and I can't find the right term for wtf this is... which is odd as we both have an extensive vocabulary and are highly specific.
