This is not a rant, but I just wanted to share some good news! My brother and I have launched an app called Programmer’s Music. It contains our favourite music tracks and tracks suggested by some of our developer/creative colleagues. It’s for listening to music while coding. We have also integrated Pomodoro time management method in it. It’s ad-free and FREE. :) Please check out the app at https://promusic.tech/2mJrw8A. Feel free to leave an honest feedback.

Please feel free to leave us a message with your favourite tracks and we will add them. Please share it, follow on Twitter and/or like our Facebook page. Thank you so much!

Thank you, everyone.

PS.- Atom editor fans would ❀ it.

    Will definitely check this out later!

    Honest feedback here: why not just compose a Spotify Playlist?

    How do you handle license costs for the tracks?
  • 9
    @Yeah69 Thanks for the reply. Spotify is freemium and plays ads. We may have place for it but little later. We use YouTube as a source currently and it's free to embed.

    Hope this answers your query. Let me know if there is anything else. What do you think about playlists? Is there anything you would like to see there?

    Ill check it out later, the design looks really nice

    Sounds awesome and can't wait to try it out and contribute! Good job, I'm surprised I never nor anyone else ever thought of doing this before.

    Deadmau5 maths

    I like the looks, besides the narrowness of the inner textblock on 1440p

    suggestion:
    devRant like shoutbox, only for soundcloud, spotify, yt, whatever links...

    Cool idea,

    Could we have the slider for track scrubbing?

    maybe a next button?

    Just suggestion
    keep up the good work :)
  • 6
    Very cool, I just have two requests:
    1) Add a skip button
    2) Dont show the 3, 2, 1.. Go intro when switching genres

    I'm. Confused, what is programmer music, cuz I listen to dance, trance and house. The guy next to me listens to whatever genre Barry white would be, I know others who listen to jazz and classical and still others who listen to what can only be described as fucked up shit, even by them.

    @cod3doc you guys are gold. *hug.

    Pretty cool, I'm enjoying what you have going on here. But yeah I agree that the 3 2 1 Go thing needs to go.

    Nicely done!

    Looking forward to my next coding session now ÷)

    "Music tracks are arranged in such a way that they increase your focus and ease your brain into focusing." May I know what is your basis for this?
  • 1
    @theonionknight It's the pomodoro system. After 25 mins of your selected music it tells you to take a break
  • 1
    @saiphp Thank you so much! πŸ‘

    @RazorSh4rk Thank you and you're amazing.
  • 1
    @Koolstr Thank you. There are many playlists and music services, but we are taking a different approach. We are sure you will love it. You can also contribute/suggest tracks through chat on app.
  • 0
    @Michaelology Will surely add it and let you know. Thank you!
  • 0
    @tambo We have added your suggestions to our todo list. We appreciate your feedback. :)
  • 0
    @Lenyct Thank you. :)

    The reason we haven't put scrubbing or next button is because tracks are tightly tied with 25 minute Pomodoro Timer and skipping it will make it shorter. However, we are going to make playlists more dynamic towards the end of beta, which will let us add next(skip) button. Hang in there. Won't be long. :)
  • 0
    @sebh0602 Thank you!
    1) As mentioned earlier, when we make playlists dynamic, we will add skip button.
    2) We will replace 3,2,1... Go with something subtle. :)

    @-FLX Thank you. MusicforProgramming.net is great. We love it too.

    Though it may sound similar right now, but we are taking a different approach for Programmer's Music one step at a time.

    For example:
    - Pomodoro time management technique integration will help fellow developers cancel out noise, increase focus and prevent burnout.
    - Our genre based music playlists makes it easy to get started with your favourite playlist.
    - We have selected our tracks based on unique method using tempo of the song. This will not only trick your brain into focusing, but also calm it down. I won't spill all the secret sauce here. :)

    @Atlas Sure, will do. Sorry about that. Hope you will still love us! :)
  • 1
    @RTRMS You're right.

    What you have mentioned are the 4 valid developer personas with different tastes. It's like a gaming laptop, everyone likes a different one. Our music playlists are with music to help focus on highly intellectual tasks like programming, hence it's called Programmer's Music.

    Research shows that listening to your favourite music can easily help you focus, in your case, dance, trance and house. I hope this make sense.

    @AndreiKnight You're a Super🌟

    @vzqzac Thanks for that. :)

    @kunashe Hugging you back. :)

    @emady Much appreciated. :) Happy Coding!
  • 1
    @theonionknight Brilliant question.

    It's a secret recipe. :) We analysed a number of research papers on music and it's effect on focus, concentration and ability to handle intellectual tasks.

    We then came up with a set of rules, which every track needs to satisfy before we add to our playlist. If you listen to any of the playlist, even if you don't love genre, it won't hurt your ears. Perhaps few minutes later, you will be working without noticing that you're listening to a genre you're not a fan of!

    Please try and let us know your thoughts. It's a science and we will continue perfecting it.
  • 1
    @sebh0602 Thank you. You've got it right. ++1
  • 0
    @Atlas We hear you.

    As much as we understand that one my be engrossed in the task, taking regular break prevents burnout and degradation of focus.

    But we totally know, what you mean. What if we made the start and end of Pomodoro timers subtle? This way music will keep playing, but you can choose not to notice it. Will you be happy to try it out? I will also discuss this with my team and see if we find even a better way. Thank you for bringing this topic up.

    @cod3doc Then I don't really get it, if research shows listening to your favorite music helps you focus, how would listening to someone else's favorite music benefit me.

    I currently listen to my favorite music, so other than the, for me intrusive, 25 minute brain breaker, how is this then any different to my existing playlist, which works.

    I myself am a dev, I can choose to download a pomodoro clock timer to piss me off, I can build one myself, or hell I like almost everyone else, owns a cellphone which has a clock and timer on it.

    Not trying to bash your idea, I am just trying to understand the actual benefit over what we are all already doing anyway.

    Pt2:

    While I get that breaks are important, we all know about the zone, and the zone does not work in 25 minute increments, hell it probably takes 25 minutes to find the zone, I would rather spend 4 happy hours listening to my music in the zone and take 1 30 to 60 minute break, take a nice walk outside, get fresh air, a snack, talk shit to the guys at work, etc.

    As apposed to being kicked out of the zone every 25 minutes because some scientist somewhere says it's good for you, we are developed, we may as well be a separate species, we are the only known sub-species of human to efficiently convert coffee into work product, just because some pencil pusher needs a 5min break every 25 minutes, does not meant he developer who can code for 4 strait days without even noticing, does too.

    We are not human, please stop trying to treat us a such.
  • 1
    @RTRMS The last line of your second comment is gold!

    "We are not human, please stop trying to treat us a such." :)

    And, I couldn't agree more. That is why there are many products we see popping up everywhere everyday, because everyone is different and they make different choices. For example, I am very picky about the music I listen to. I will spend an hour to just have the right playlist. But I love to try new music, too. So, I will spend that extra hour to create a new playlist. But that's just me.

    As far as Pomodoro is concerned, we use it ourselves and it has reduced our stress levels a lot. It takes some time getting used to it, but once you do, boy you will feel like a task slayer! However, if Pomodoro was so great then why GTD exists? Correct, everyone is different.

    TBC... (1/2)
  • 3
    @RTRMS (2/2)

    As a Product Designer/Developer, it is our task to create something unique based on research with a subset of users and let the universal set of users decide, whether using given product will be helpful to them or not.

    It applies to Programmer's Music as well. We don't want our users to waste time finding the right music and hence, we are giving them an option to listen to their favourite genre with pre-selected tracks.

    At last, the whole idea of being a part of this community is to gather feedback from awesome people like you. And during the beta we want to evolve the most. So, thank you very much once again for your honest feedback. We loved it. :)

    @Atlas I couldn't agree more, when coding it's horrible to be interrupted like that.

    Really nice work.
    Will you bring out that as a downloadable app?

    Hey music suggestion here
    Deadmau5 - chill mix (entire video on YouTube)
    Deadmau5 - the not so chill mix (entire video on YouTube)
    Each video is longer than 1 hour.

    Hello everyone, we are glad to inform you that '3,2,1...go' has gone! Those who love pomodoro, now one bell is for start and two bells are for stop timer notification. Let us know your thoughts. Hope you'll enjoy! You guys are AWESOME! πŸ––

    Why does this make me hungry? Wtf

    Stops when phone locked :v
  • 0
    @phiter For now, yes, but without those annoying skippable ads! :) Thanks for checking it out.
  • 1
    @aaeim Yes, as it uses YouTube. But we will change that soon, so please stay tuned. Thanks for checking Programmer's Music out. πŸ‘
  • 0
    @cod3doc I might be blind but.. how do I skip a song?
  • 1
    @aaeim you don't, because of the tomato clock is 25 minutes, skipping would mess with fruit math.
  • 1
    I've been using this and it's awesome

    @soulkicks Thanks, man. Appreciate it. Let us know if we are missing anything. πŸ˜€

    You could make an Android/IOS app instead of using a webapp because some time you in a place with no WiFi and you want to lesson to something offline. 😊
  • 1
    @Abyss these are YouTube clips, won't work, besides, you don't need an app for that, websites support offline as well, just not if you using iShit.

    That is definitely a useful one
