Her: you're a coder right?
Me: I prefer programmer, yeah why?
Her: I accidentally switched my phone to another language and I...

Boss: "is it done yet?"
Me: "I've been telling everyone we have a problem and I need all hands on deck. I've already analyzed the issue and explained it to you and the options but YOU PEOPLE NEED TO DECIDE or I decide and probably break things along the way..."
Why does everyone ignore me when I need help but are ok asking me when they need help?

Spent yesterday and this morning working on a project my boss pulled me away to do.
Just got told it's not needed anymore

Thanks for wasting 1.5 days...
It was actually decided on a late night meeting but he forgot to inform me this morning...6 -
Me: we need to fix all these technical debt and prevent new ones from growing
Boss: this needs to be prioritized by product owner
Correct me if I'm wrong but a PO didn't see all the shit under the hood, (of a nice looking "car")... And by the time the engine starts choking... It's already too late?1 -
Does anyone else have experience on a team where everyone seems to be doing their own thing across the full stack/multiple systems/languages but then they're all stepping over each other, breaking other each other's code so ends up doing a lot of rework to update your code to someone else's change.
And also many wheels get reinvented in slightly different ways because no one is aware that something like ... Already exists and can be reused or refactor.... Or how to use it correctly.
Basically we're like all moving in different directions instead of in sync.
I feel maybe the team is too big and everyone is doing everything, wearing too many hats... and maybe should define roles and ownership better.4 -
Had a production issue last night where db hung so today whole team was investigating.
I checked the graphs and noticed a huge spike in inserts during a few hours. Normally it's distributed evenly through the day.
Emailed team with screenshots and also mentioned it to someone but then forgot to follow up... I assumed they were looking into it (I don't work in the same office as them).
Someone just logged in and notice the same thing happening right now... which made me remember.
So I asked him, did you see my email?
Silence....
Also got another guy doing a sort of code review on a util app I wrote that deletes certain records from our db and why I'm not just using SQL. I tools him the most obvious way doesn't work I tried but he won't believe me so let him do try it himself.
Anyway, these few days just feels like "why doesn't anyone listen to me?" ... and just feeling overqualified and sort of not part of the team again....3 -
I just realized the problem I have with my team is that a lot of people don't seem to be any smarter than computers..
Usually when i tell someone to do something, I tell them overall goal and give them a general direction, the first step I would do. And well then tell them to go work out the details from there or come back to me if they have a **specific** problem.
1 month later I check back in and they're like I emailed ..., Still waiting for them to reply.

Can't you be a little more resourceful or creative, try looking for another way... Human....
I understand that, at least for now, I still need to tell computers exactly what to do and how handle errors...
But you're not a computer and the whole point of telling you to do something is I expect you to use your brain and think for yourself when something unexpected happens...5 -

Why can't you just do what I say... I don't need ur opinion on points that I specifically stated should be done a certain way....
I don't want to spend 30mins arguing with you... I already got enough work as it is and ur supposed to be helping me...
I don't have time to explain everything to you... Just what I need you to do....
There's a reason I got promoted and you didn't...4
