What the fuck is up with interviewers asking about my goddamn hobbies now? My hobby is slowly going blind while frustratedly talking to myself through an anthropomorphized rubber duck you fucking idiot, that's why I'm here in the first place. "Well we want a well rounded person". I'll give you a well-rounded asshole. It used to be, "well do you write code in your spare time too"? What the fuck do they want from us? Next time I'm answering this new "hobby" question as follows:
I DO COKE AND FUCK STRIPPERS! I'M THE ROCKSTAR DEVELOPER YOU'RE ALWAYS JERKING OFF TO, CAN YOU EVEN HANDLE THAT YOU ASTONISHING PUSSY?17 -
Just decided to not pair my phone at the sports bar and start a php video. But my phone did suggest it. My phone is kind of a bad ass.3

Anybody else ever watch linuxgamecast? I love that show, I feel like it's criminally underrated. Watching their wednesday livestream right now.

I was inspired by ADL to show off my first rice. Need to write some conky scripts to make it a little more interesting on the desktop.
Using i3 as the WM, with more or less vanilla i3status. Thinking of switching over to polybar at some point possibly. I used oomox to make my own theme, so nemo, firefox, and all other system applications are matching. Check her out!7 -
I don't know if anyone else feels this way, but for me JavaScript kind of feels like trying to understand people. The more I learn, the more history I understand, the deeper the foundations of my knowledge become, only leaves me with more questions. Now, this is true of programming at large but the divergent nature of JavaScript just blows my mind. I'm sure that's not unique.
Like, I was learning about accessor objects today, sure they're similar to other languages, but the reason it fucks me up so bad I guess is the why? Just like the motivations of people. I understand it to be dynamix creation, but still. And, for a long time what's really drawn me to programming is how humbling it actually can be. But I just feel like some student of philosophy where meaning starts to circle back onto itself.
I got it admit, as much as I love programming, it's insanely frustrating. It feels like one step forward is always two steps backwards, and so there is no root place to understand meaning. Maybe I'm just rambling and this isn't a unique feeling at all it's just so frustrating trying to master something, feel like it's at your fingertips and it moves away. It's almost like Heisenberg or something, when I quantify and measure my skill, it invariably makes the measurement wrong. -
Searching for an hour about an insanely obscure issue only to find any unclosed github thread is like some sadastic ending to a Twilight Zone episode.
"Picture this Chachi, a web developer caught in a web. Depending on broken dependencies, his employers depending on his broken dreams. Waiting for a page to load about issues with loading pages. Open source, or open mind? Is an issue ever really resolved? Or is a flag just checked? Picture Chachi, a web developer caught in the github zone." -
Saw a good privacy movie on Netflix last night. It's called "Terms and Conditions May Apply", it's from 2013. Like most good documentaries I felt bad about myself afterward. Oh yeah, he grills Zuckerberg pretty good out of nowhere. That was funny.

I just saw a marketer announcing a new partnership between their entertainment service and Facebook. Mouthbarfed a little. Then two posts below was an actual ad marketing for Facebook.
The comments were filled with cynical disgust and personal attacks on Mark Zuckerberg. This is probably the best moment I've ever experienced on LinkedIn. Let's hope his new partnership goes great.2 -
Well this is awkward. I think the algo is trying to cause some problems. Be nicer algo, this is a community.6

No, sorry you can't get a torrent link of the new version of the torrent client. But, we're happy to redirect you to our website and then reopen that client once we're done.3

"This Microsoft technical support, you have many virus on computer."
If only you could npm install pluralize on a human being, scammers would probably be too lazy to do it anyway.2 -
I refer back to earlier rants. But essentially, this guy lied about having a com sci degree. Didn't know how JS works, didn't know how vcs works, didn't know how to tie his own shoes. Proceeds to repeatedly clobber the work I do, which frankly, was the only real work being done in the whole group at all. Commits old and irrelevant work just to appear in the commit history. Then, he has the audacity to accuse me of not being good at dealing with people.
Finally decided to tell the instructor what had been happening. Then I proceeded to get frantic messages repeatedly from this fucker for the next week after class as he desperately attempted to salvage his grade. I'm pretty sure he failed. All in all, I'd say wait til the last minute to get revenge sometimes, then the person you're fucking with doesn't have time to react. -
Just realized every 3 digit ++ amount can be translated to a shorthand hex code. Maybe this should change the background for new users until they reach 1000 ++s? Just throwing it out there, not really requesting it as a feature. 800++ would be maroon as an example.3

Been teaching for this place a while. Still have yet to be paid or properly onboarded. Needless to say, I've emailed them a half dozen times already about it. And including colleagues, have talked to probably ten different people. Monday morning and all of next week until they reply. I will be @channel-ing their primary slack channel until this is resolved. Just curious how much faster devRant will get back to me before these douchebags? <31

Anybody ever relocate for a position before? Was it worth it? Were you in a relationship at the time?3
-
Thanks for all the ++ notroot. One day, I hope your permissions are elevated beyond your wildest dreams.2

Opinions on npm inquirer. I can never decide, in some ways its super convenient. But sometimes debugging the weirdness pissed me off. I think it's pretty good for what it is, but something a lot better has got to be out there. What do you all think?
-
Just got a message from a recruiter about a position in another state. I told her to relocate the incentive would need to be very high. She told me, "if I talk with them they might have some relocation package."
So, a couple of questions: How the fuck do you not immediately have that information? What is your actual job? What the fuck are you even doing right now if you can't answer basic questions about the position or give me a reason to be interested? Does some poor moron actually pay you for this shit?
Annnnddddd. Connection removed. Blocked.1 -

Wtf is Instagram. Seriously how many times do you have to be hit in the head with a fucking shovel to be even moderately amused by that garbage fire. You can't even upload more than ten files at once?! I mean I get server space but fuck me! That shit is goddamn fucking pathetic as fuck. These cock licking cockroaches who find interest in this banal baby vomit green trash are using precious oxygen. Seriously, to upload multiple photos took like twenty minutes. And then they were all wrong because I shot them 4:3. But this is a fucking photo sharing application and crops wrong with 4:3. What the living, breathing, fucking fuck? People actually live with this shit and use this?! ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?! How narcissistic and stupid do you have to be to put with an application that doesn't even fucking run in browser. This was my first time ever attempting this fucking black hole of vapid self destruction. Never again. And fuck people willing to do it.6 -

It's been said before but devRant is the best. It's one of the only places I can talk with other devs. Even though they're surly. So many people on here who know so much more than me. I can learn and be motivated to get better. This is a great community. I'm genuinely thankful for it.4 -

Why don't people use sudo !! in sudo memes? Example:
./makeAllSudoMemesBetter
"You don't have permission to do that..."
sudo !!2
