Testers in my team have been told like 1000 times to follow the style guides that we all follow. That's not that big a deal. The big deal is that they were put on this project without having any mathematics background when the project is all about geometric stuff. So after me as a developer having to put so many hours to explain to them why the tests are not covering the requirements or why the tests are red because they are initializing the data completely wrong, I ask them pretty please to do the checks for the coding style and I have already been 4 hours reviewing code because not only I have to go through the maths and really obscure testing code to ensure that the tests are correct, but every line I have to write at least 4 or 5 style corrections. And some are not even about the code being clean, but about using wrong namespaces or not sticking to the internal data types. For fuck shake, this is embedded software and has to obey to certain security standards...

The next generation of developers is going to suck as fuck

I've come across a lot of situation that made me think this way.

The most notable examples are right here on devrant.

I've seen a shit ton of rants blaming languages for "bugs" when in fact those "bugs" wouldn't have happened if those fuckers would have read the specifications of said languages.

This new generation doesn't read, when they've got a problem they just fucking go to Google for answers, they don't bother reading specifications, language books, rfc, etc, they don't bother reading where the true source of information are. The documentation ? What's that ? Let's go to stackoverflow first, let's think second.

Same back in school I've seen people in the highest grades that couldn't fucking decompress a tar archive.

In the coming decades we will loose the high skilled people, the people that made the software world as it is today we will be left with fuckers only able to blame things for stuff they don't understand.

This is my first true rant. This is me being pissed off.

For multiplatform C++ development (using Cmake and Conan), should I dev on Linux or Windows?

The plebs will never understand.

Why is devRant asking for most hours we worked? How is this any achievement or even something to be proud of? I wished the IT world would finally abandon this toxic view on overtime-cowboys and must-work-60-hour weeks that some IT companies sadly imposed on us.

Not everyone is happy working for 20 hours straight. Actually humankind has spent the last 150 years trying to get workloads reduced - and in almost all industries it worked, until IT sacrificed these advancements on the altar of a few brilliant silicon valley masterminds and their promise of wealth and eternal glory.

Just live a healthy live. Find a healthy balance. Enjoy your time off, enjoy friends and family. Take breaks. Go outside. Go on vacation. And push back on unreasonable workloads.
