What the actual fuck. I just found out that on one of the SSD's I bought, the optimal partition start / finish sizes which apparently on that unit only occur every 65 THOUSAND 4kB sectors (which translates to about a quarter GB) means that I have to throw away half a GB worth of space on that disk in order to align it. Very optimized indeed, dear SSD manufacturer! Huge alignment numbers for just that much extra wastage in the name of optimization. Something like 4x sector size on 512 byte sectors or 1x sector size on 4k sectors.. ain't nobody gonna need that. Let's make it a quarter GB.

And that's what they call engineering?

I just finished replacing perl's builtin Storable with my own deranged take on it because I wanted to be more efficient about saving and loading snapshots of a VM to disk.

It was a resounding success, of course. But what am I doing with my life?

I have double-digit IQ. I’m like Apollo 11 computer — 4kb RAM, but I’m a legend. You’re like a windows vista laptop — technically smarter but no one gives a fuck.

Over the weekend, I made the move to use a flash as a repository (don't need no wires to repo!). Felt that needing 12 MB to store less than 2 MB was a little bit high.
So I figured "simple fix, I'll just reformat the drive from 32Kb allocation to something less, like 4Kb".
After 30 seconds of a single copy/ paste, the transfer was complete. Checking the size... accidently clicked "4096 kilobytes" instead of "4096 bytes".
