I love Unix systems because everything goes smoothly most of the time but today... Fuck me... I just wanted to see how many lines my script was with "wc - l" but I couldn't remember "m" or "w". 180 degrees separated despair and monotony, although I didn't know it yet. I did "mc - l" first and midnight logged empty ftp buffer to my file. Goodbye Thursday and Fridays work :) I should commit more often.4

Do you ever feel like some days are so damn monotonous? I’m nearing 10 years in the industry and lately my world consists solely of Plug-in development, templated or basic sites, PRs, and documentation galore. How do y’all keep your brain from turning to pure mush? Learning anything cool/new? The Burn out is real. 😖3

hi, i have a question of a darker note, hope you won't mind.
How do you deal with monotony at work ?
The more experienced i get, the more my work becomes monotonous. I understand that it's impossible to know everything, but i feel as if there's not that much knowledge left for everyday work.
Sure there will always be new scenarios and more advanced/marginal stuff, but they don't appear that often.
i get depressed (not clinically, just very bad state overall) when i stop learning, which is why i've been strugling quite a bit recently.
i have ~3 years in web dev. So i'm not some kind of guru or anything even close, but this is the problem i have right now.
i've been thinking about switching languages or specialisation (i do enjoy DevOps/sysadmin work), but i'm afraid i'll have the same problem pretty soon...13 -
The monotony of begging management for budget to retrofit unit tests which should have been there in the first place is starting to piss me off.

Starting to wonder if I don't enjoy coding or if the corporate environment is just draining the life out of me with it's constant monotony and monotone culture. I can't bring myself to be excited about this stuff, it's so boring. It pays the bills but it doesn't keep my eyes open.5

I think Im subconsciously planning my suicide. I already abandoned close relatives and friends. I refuse to work or apply for Jobs. I am lazy and spontaneous. Im back on drugs. I take unnecessary risks. Time is moving fast but slow at the same time. I’m fine with the monotony of slipping down into a deeper hole. I don’t know what hope is. Some days I don’t eat at all or get out of bed. I even started confessing my feelings to people I love but have been scared of. I feel that there is nothing left to do but get rid of this alive feeling and reality as I know it. And related to all of this, I feel apathetic and bored.10

As this is as good a place as any to vent, I feel the need to proclaim that I've had to unsubscribe from /r/ProgrammerHumor on account of all the "volume control" jokes.
I am a patient man, but I simply cannot deal with monotony. It is the same fucking joke over and over again popping into my feeds.
Gonna give it a couple of months until it dies down.
Here on devrant, I guess I'll just have to downvote and trust in algo to save me2 -
When the project is going so good, no stress, every error you encounter you fix it in a second. You are inside your timeline.... you feel happy. But if it keeps going like this, it becomes a monotony and you get boring.
Have you ever had this feeling? When everything's going good and you still get bored?
