LEGIT FUCK ME!

So I use KDE Neon RN. One day, it randomly doesn't boot. Checked logs, sddm was fucked. Reinstalled. Everything worked fine for a day, next day: fucked. Reinstalled, disabled sddm (auto login) and then a day later: basically no services start / are missing and random parts of the os randomly crash.

Wtf do I do 😢

*ENTER* the first thing i see is devRantron's window already open and active.

*me watching the clock in the corner* -- it's 10AM oh shit!

Was using my Arch linux and made a usual -Syu update, and what a fuck: my mesa driver went crazy, sddm fucked up, and I couldn't load my favorite KDE!
Fortunately installed GNOME, and customized it a bit, but damn, miss my desktop
Gonna do all posible to repare this bug ASAP))

but seriously, why dosen't gnome dm give you the choice? i want something good looking; sddm is kinda ugly, lxdm is ugly, lightdm ain't even working, and gdm i obviously have issues with. any sughestions? does kdm still work / does it work separately? i know SLiM is deprecated. thanks in advance

I really regret switching to manjaro. So many things keep breaking, like my laptop won't sleep anymore, it stays up, whenever I plug in another display I get an error thrown at me. Among other weird behaviors (all screen related) that I can't seem to fix and make the experience feel like I'm running a very clunky win-poop machine.

On the other hand, setting up a very custom sddm theme and installing certain software like hadoop, rust, gimp, xfce tweaks and other things was such a breeze D: just "yay hadoop" and 90% of the work was done.

Grhhh... Wondering if I should accept defeat, and maybe switch to Linux MX or spend hours fixing what probably is a display driver issue that's pissing me off 😠

Just installed arch on my laptop...

I've always been a Debian guy before so blimey that install was painful but I'm glad I've done it.
I then installed sddm, for some reason it seems to be an old version maybe? I was expecting the look of sddm you get in kubuntu, any ideas?

I finally did it. I installed Arch linux + Unity 3D + VSCode + budgie + vertex + sddm-deepin in virtualbox....

What a fucking journey and a half that was.
Now to install on an ssd for real...

My thoughts on the process:

1.) This is not for the faint of heart.
2.) Be preapred to devote some time getting it all right.
3. This was actually quite a rewarding process.

I installed arch again due to some other mess up (another rant 😂) and this time I was facing problem with sleep.

The system froze every time I tried to wake it up from suspend state.

This is how I wasted past 2 days:
- Wifi device sleep issue, disabling wifi
- Probably sddm issue, let me try lightdm
- Last time I installed gdm, might try that as well
- Had to remove all the bloatware then I suspected plasma
- Checked system logs and found amdgpu error
- Tried disabling graphics using nomodeset, system failed to boot
- glx IP block hung!, it's the graphics driver
- Checked another arch forum, a guy was having a same problem after upgrade
- Downgraded mesa to 18.3.4-1

Worked like a charm though hibernate is still not working

I am currently running a heavily modded version of Ubuntu 18.04. I remove gnome applications, installed xfce with sddm for my login manager, plus removed a bunch of their pre-installed applications. I mostly use AppImages and snaps for installations with occasionally using apt for packages I am too lazy to build or are not in snap form.

I have been contemplating switching to Arch/Antegros/Manjaro. Mostly because I am crazy and heard that I could get a performance boost and I like being more in control of my own software.

My question is this, does it make sense for me to switch distros? Also, I'd like to have a close to the metal Arch install, but last time I did that I got annoyed with configuring too much from the bare bone, took me like close to an hour of setup, it was not hard, just really tedious.... Is Antegros/Manjaro have options to be really close to the bare-metal? Is there maybe a really good install script that I can just tweak some basic settings for?

Arch switch update: after a day I still haven't gotten past sddm. KDE won't start on either X or Wayland with no logs in sight. Everything worked in VB.
