Long but worth it...
So I was cleaning out my Google Drive last night, and deleted some old (2 years and up) files. I also deleted my old work folder, it was for an ISP I worked for over 2 years ago. After deleting the files I had a little twinge of "Man I hope they're not still using those". But seriously, it'd be a pretty big security risk if I was still the owner of those files... right? Surely they copied them and deleted all the info from the originals. IP addresses, Cisco configs, username and passwords for various devices, pretty much everything but customer info.
Guess who I get a call from this morning... "Hi this is Debbie from 'ISP'. I was trying to access the IP Master List and I can't anymore. I was just told to call you and see if there's any way to get access to it again" (Not her real name...)
I had to put her on hold so I could almost die of laughter...
Me: "Sorry about that Debbie, I haven't worked for that company for over 2 years. Your telling me in all that time no one thought to save them locally? No one made a copy? I still had the original documents?!"
Long pause
D: "Uh... Apparently not..."
Another long pause
D: "So is there any way you can give me access to them again?"
Me: "They're gone Debbie. I deleted them all last night."
D: Very worried voice "Can... Can you check?"
This kids is why you never assume you'll always have access to a cloud stored file, make local copies!!
A little bit of background on this company, the owner's wife fired me on trumped up "time card discrepancy" issues so she could hire her freshly graduated business major son. The environment over there was pretty toxic anyway...
I feel bad for "Debbie" and the other staff there, it's going to be a very bad week for them. I also hope it doesn't impact any customers. But... It is funny as hell, especially since I warned the owner as I was clearing out my desk to save copies, and plan on them being gone soon. Apparently he never listened.
This is why you should have a plan in place... And not just wing it...
PS. First Post!25 -
Me: PHP, please load the images.
PHP: No.
Me: Come on PHP, the deadline is tonight.
PHP: Haha nope.
Me: What if I swap the libraries?
PHP: Still no.
Me: What if I add a symlink?
PHP: No. And also I hate you.
Me: *gives up and sends an email to the client saying we have to delay the release*
PHP: lololol jk here's the images haha

Few months ago, I ate so many MBs (just 300+ GBs) in a month that my ISP blocked my connection and sent a worker to check if i was sharing my internet connection with neighbours etc. { They say UNLIMITED downloads when selling packages }
I was so pissed that after restoration I wrote autorun-on-startup powershell which keeps downloading a 100MB file forever just to eat bandwidth.
This month my downloads crossed a TB.
I feel like I've pissed in ISP's face just to show that if I'm not eating TBs every month, it doesn't mean i can't do it.14 -
So, my broadband internet is not working. Naturally, i called my ISP and complained.
He enlightened me, "Turn on your TV and watch the news. Theres a deadly computer virus on the loose and it is affecting banks and businesses and everything. So we decided to help our customers by turning our services down for a few days."
What the actual fuck?
Its like to Not eat anything due to a bird flu.
Oh! and i have an exam tomorrow.
Thank you muggles.17 -
I changed my Wi-Fi name to Syntax Error and made some changes to the configuration. I wanted to disable the admin page at the 2.4Ghz connection, but I got kicked out at 5Ghz as well. So I couldn't log in anymore and resetting the router didn't helped.
So I called the ISP if they can restore it to factory settings, but the guy on the phone didn't understand a thing I said. He said to me: "Sir I don't exactly understand what u say, but I can see an Syntax Error. Do you want me to fix it." And I laughed and I laughed.. I told him that's the Wi-Fi name but ofcourse he didn't got the joke. I called again and got someone else on the phone. He's resetting the router in a one minute call.
Had some fun this morning.11 -
2 years ago: Connection goes down at the office
Boss: -"Damnit, you are responsible to ensure uptime. Fix a redundant connection asap."
Me: Fixes redundant connection
Today: Connection goes down at the office, failover connection does not work.
Me: Calls ISP and asks what's happened.
ISP: -"Your boss cancelled the account 3 months ago"

My local ISP was saving their database backups in an unprotected folder which was literally domain.com/backups
When I downloaded it contained thousands of their clients data.
Reported it to them and got 2 years of internet/tv services for free.
They wanted to hire me but I was still studying in my first year of uni in another city.7 -
My ISP advertises themselves as IT-nerds. I once contacted the support, not tech support, just the usual support. I wanted to use my own router instead of theirs, and the supporter actually knew how I should configure my vlan and a lot of other technical stuff.
Why aren’t all ISP’s like mine?8 -
> *WordPress website gets down Error 500: Cannot establish Connection with database*
> Marketing loses their shit: "We need the website up and working right now"
> *Me being calm *: "Nope, we cannot it's the service provider error, there's nothing we can do"
> *MK.G*: "Alright then, switch to another ISP ASAP"
> *Me, Internal rage, a volcano erupts *: "Umm..so you want to spend more money on another hosting because this one has an outage of 48 hours?"
>*MK.G *: "Yes, because we cannot run Facebook ads, just because website is down"
>*Internal lmao*: "Alright, but by the time you purchase a new service provider and host, the website will be up and running plus since the database is down we cannot migrate"
>*MK.G*: "I don't care, just make it up and working"
>*Me chilling*: "Alright, give me few hours"
> after a few hours the website is working *me being badass even though I didn't do anything*13 -
FUCK THIS! FUUUUCKKKKKK THIIIS!... one would be fucking excited and motivated to finish work, but your entire fucking productivity is hanging from the internet connection's dick!!!!.. Fuckin ISP mother fucker! FUCK!... i can't fuckin work under these conditions for fuck's sake! SHIT!10

Fuck me, big fucking security flaw with a UK internet service provider, my head has gone through my desk and hit the floor it’s that bad.23
-
So I dual booted my pc with Ubuntu a few weeks back. And I came to a conclusion today.
Um, windows needs to go.23 -
Just found out that the generic router that our ISP gave us, which we use at work, has a port you can telnet into to get shell access with root privileges.12

Working on a (PHP based) monitoring system and currently writing rules/testing stuff.
I wrote some rules which check a few pages of a dutch site displaying if certain bigger services have disruptions and I am pulling the pages of a few ones I'd like to be notified about when they have issues.
Started the engine and received an alert about one big ISP over here from the monitoring system. Didn't believe that it would work right away so went to check that specific disruption page and...... they have a disruption right now!
IT FUCKING WORKS.
Good monitoring system 😊 *pats system*5 -
So this just happened with my ISP, i have no words...
The fact you have my password in front of you in plain text is fucking terrifying and i know you do because i used to work for an ISP.9 -
You know what I realized we should always say no for demo driven application development.
We should always ask for enough time do a proper development and if its not enough, shouldn’t write a single line.
Because once we deliver a working demo. Its release ready for them because its FUCKING WORKING..
And trying to explain why this is just a demo and cant be put to production is even bigger pain in the ass than saying no in the beginning.
LESSON LEARNED .4 -

My ISP just sent me an email:
I have double the bandwidth for the next 6 month while still paying the same as before. No fishy things, no special conditions...
What a time to be alive.14 -
God dammit, my ISP fucked up.
I have a 400 Mbit/s Internet connection, which I pay a lot for it. I live in the central of a average city and we got 18 Appartements here with a banque and a wellness shop underneath.
There is a new shop under our block and 1 month ago a tecnician was here and made some recabling, so the shop would get enough performace.
Now since 1 week ago I have a bad output, laggs in games and just get about 250 Mbit/s, when not on high traffic times.
That fucking multipler in our house is over 10 years old and around 18 households are connected to it.
WHY THE FUCK ARE YOU NOT CHANGING IT, WHEN YOU SEE IT'S NOT ENOUGH?
We all here in this building are paying a lot for it, and now that fucking thing is overused and broken and you're just grabbing our money you shitbags!!!
YOU HAD ONE JOB! ONE FUCKING JOB!!!23 -
My friend - the admin of the Ancient Tor-relay got a green light from his ISP to activate the Exit policy for his relay again!
Bahnhof is a damn good ISP!7 -
My landlord has a workspace below my room, and he had to install wifi for his workspace yesterday. except he couldn't, so he asked me. which I guess is fine, he made very polite request so I figured: might as well.
so I go down, and it's one of these typical isp boxes. I connect my laptop and start messing around with ifconfig and ip route listing. I wouldn't normally even use ip route, but I've been doing a project involving multiple networks. Anyway, I switch networks a few times (my own network is obviously up and running) so I can google for router passwords. by the time I'm finished with everything my landlord thanks me, and goes on about "how he is always impressed by how people can just type into keyboards and things start working"
in reality, all I did was connect his cable to DSL when he had connected it to PSTDN himself.5 -
Initial steps of learning any new programming language :
*heck yeah I created a calculator. Guess I'll show my family that I actually can code! *
-hey mom, dad look I made a simple calculator using python B)
- uhm... That's great son but dont we already have one of those?
- yeah but like... this is completely different it uses a different programming language than what you and I have been using all this time.
- ah I see. Good for you then
*muttering to each other*
-are you sure he's got the aptitude to be a cse?
-at this point we can just hope.
Me:*stares blindly in my dark room contemplating why I'm alive*7 -
Successfully moved my server across the big pond - or so I thought.
Turns out that Vultr has newly acquired a IP range that was belonging to a ISP in Greece. So far so good. But, it existed on 6-7 blacklists, Vultr had failed to delegate the network to their rDNS, and my domain suffered from DNSSEC ( fuck DNSSEC )
After two days of complaining to Vultr because they did not believe me they finally fixed their shit. My domain did start working again from some reason that I dont know and the blacklists is being removed one by one.

Me (poker face): bit i have no internet :|9 -
***JUST BECAUSE SECURITY***
My father deleted the email with the credential for our ISP (pppoe: username and password), and I need it to connect a router.
Just called the tecnical service, after a couple of minutes they gave it to me.
They sent to me both username and password.
In clear.
Asking me where to send (which mail).
I DIDN'T EVEN KNOW HOW IS CALLED THE CREDENTIAL I NEED.
Obviously, I just had to say the accountholder of the bill.
Now I am super scared, i can virtually access any account.8 -
Wanted to make a website with some of my friends about whatever kid thing we were into at the time. None of our parents cared, it was the 90s and nobody took the internet seriously.
Copied and pasted bits of html into notepad and FTPed them to some free webhost over dialup. The website lasted three weeks -- my friends got bored, I got hooked.
A few years later I found myself wondering why some websites used ".php" instead of ".html". I discovered this shiny new thing called PHP 4. Built a website for some video game I was into using it. Spent the next two years teaching myself everything there was to know.
Took programming in high school. Chose CS over mechanical engineering because I liked the university better. Got an internship which turned into a job which turned into a career.1 -
Moving a datacenter, it went bad.
The upstream ISP fucked us.
45 hours.
I drove home, it was the most dangerous thing I have ever done17 -
I want to cry.
To start, some of you know that I live in Reunion Island.
But there are a week ago, the SAFE cable is broken (one of the two cables that give us internet access), due to that, my ISP reduced a lot the connection speed.
Yesterday, I downloaded some packages in my Ubuntu computer. I left it download during the night.
So, today I was checking if it was done.
"6 926 kB downloaded in 5h 30m 9s (349 B/s)"
But it isn't the worst. I got a many "timed out" when downloading the dependencies.
😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭8 -
Lost half a work day because of an ISP outage. (Testing mailers doesn't work without a connection)
Turns out it was a loose cable on our modem that happened to coincide with the ISP outage elsewhere.
Ugh.1 -
So our company's internet was down. Network admin was really pissed as there is suppose to be a notification from the ISP about down time. Network admin called the ISP customer services to inquire about the problem and they said "Sir, we wanted to email you but our network was down too."
Admin turned from being really angry to laughing out loud real quick...4 -
End of second week at a new job. Found what I thought was a bug and wanting to impress I fixed it. The dev reviewing my code had just started a week before me so he also had no idea what was going on. It went live Friday afternoon.
Come back Monday morning and turns out I completely broke everything and nobody could use the site all weekend. I thought I was done for sure. Was shitting myself all day waiting for the call.
TURNS OUT NOBODY EVEN NOTICED4 -
so my isp assigned all of our devices WAN ip's instead of giving our router a WAN ip and letting us handle our own lan.
so our subnet is x.x.15.255
but when I subnet scan x.x.255.255 I get 1337 results, no joke 1337
so I can access windows servers, ip cameras, sure a lot of them are locked, I'm scanning 0.0.0.1 - 255.255.255.255 now to see what else there is.

My wifi was hacked two times last year, so I decided to change the factory credentials. Some months ago a tree fell on top of the cables on the street, cutting my internet connection. I call the ISP and when they get here they say I have no right for costumer support as I have altered my own connection.
WHAT. THE. FUCK
I had to revert the credentials to admin/admin in order get my internet back. These ISPs live in the fucking stone age. How the fuck do they force me to fucking have my router exposed with a fucking "admin/admin".
Fuck them.
I hope some day we have a cable revolution and finally have some rights over the networks we pay for with both tax money and excesive fees with low fucking speeds. Fuck them. Really.9 -
Probably it will sound strange or slow to you but my ISP upgraded to optical fiber and now I got 50Mbps from 20Mbps that I had before. I downloaded 1GB file in 3min. I'm so fucking happy.15

Once I moved to new flat that had no internet connection yet, so I went to restaurant located under my apartment, that had WiFi secured with password. I asked for it while waiting for the order - it was "A1B2C3D4". After a while I got anoyed that it was so slow, so checked if can acces router admin page and restrict access for their clients. It turned out I can and they used default login and password, so they ended up with only my MAC whitelisted. Seemed they had connected their own business PC ("office PC") via LAN too, so I was curious if they call ISP to check it out. I checked the router settings every day, even after I got my own internet connction and they had it blocked for about 3 weeks. Then they changed WiFi password, so I came again, asked for password (another shitty one), checked router admin page and... still default login and password...9

"To use the clock you need Adobe Flash"
Really 1&1? You really need flash to show a fucking clock? Its not that hard to do this in javascript, or? Even if it is an analog clock :D There is even a tutorial of the "quality content page" w3schools about implementing this in javascript ... just whyyyyyyy? it 2018, not 2004.
(1&1 is an german ISP. This message occured in their webmailer using it without flash.)6 -
On March 10th russian government tried to block or at least slow down twitter because twitter refused to delete some posts that russian govt wanted to be deleted.
Things that were down that day in russia:
- rostelecom (largest russian isp)
- FSB (russian CIA)
- SKRF (russian FBI)
- RKN (russian FBI but for internet control)
- gosuslugi (basically the govt website for all utilities imaginable including but not limited to medical help, taxes, passports, everything)
- kremlin website
Things that were up that day in russia, operating at a regular speed:
- twitter3 -
inside incubator
port 22 - blocked
steam - blocked
Have to prove you are human, while visiting every other website
Sometimes captca doesnot stop after 3-4 images. Goes on to show you even more

youporn - unblocked16 -
So called my ISP because of slow internet
Me : Hey , slow connection
Him : Could you open up CMD
Me : I'm on linux
then the dude hangs up :/ another guy called later , I guess the tech support needed tech support , FML1 -
Worst hack/attack I had to deal with?
Worst, or funniest. A partnership with a Canadian company got turned upside down and our company decided to 'part ways' by simply not returning his phone calls/emails, etc. A big 'jerk move' IMO, but all I was responsible for was a web portal into our system (submitting orders, inventory, etc).
After the separation, I removed the login permissions, but the ex-partner system was set up to 'ping' our site for various updates and we were logging the failed login attempts, maybe 5 a day or so. Our network admin got tired of seeing that error in his logs and reached out to the VP (responsible for the 'break up') and requested he tell the partner their system is still trying to login and stop it. Couple of days later, we were getting random 300, 500, 1000 failed login attempts (causing automated emails to notify that there was a problem). The partner knew that we were likely getting alerted, and kept up the barage. When alerts get high enough, they are sent to the IT-VP, which gets a whole bunch of people involved.
VP-Marketing: "Why are you allowing them into our system?! Cut them off, NOW!"
Me: "I'm not letting them in, I'm stopping them, hence the login error."
VP-Marketing: "That jackass said he will keep trying to get into our system unless we pay him $10,000. Just turn those machines off!"
VP-IT : "We can't. They serve our other international partners."
<slams hand on table>
VP-Marketing: "I don't fucking believe this! How the fuck did you let this happen!?"
VP-IT: "Yes, you shouldn't have allowed the partner into our system to begin with. What are you going to do to fix this situation?"
Me: "Um, we've been testing for months already went live some time ago. I didn't know you defaulted on the contract until last week. 'Jake' is likely running a script. He'll get bored of doing that and in a couple of weeks, he'll stop. I say lets ignore him. This really a network problem, not a coding problem."
IT-MGR: "Now..now...lets not make excuses and point fingers. It's time to fix your code."
IT-VP: "I agree. We're not going to let anyone blackmail us. Make it happen."
So I figure out the partner's IP address, and hard-code the value in my service so it doesn't log the login failure (if IP = '10.50.etc and so on' major hack job). That worked for a couple of days, then (I suspect) the ISP re-assigned a new IP and the errors started up again.
After a few angry emails from the 'powers-that-be', our network admin stops by my desk.
D: "Dude, I'm sorry, I've been so busy. I just heard and I wished they had told me what was going on. I'm going to block his entire domain and send a request to the ISP to shut him down. This was my problem to fix, you should have never been involved."
After 'D' worked his mojo, the errors stopped.
Month later, 'D' gave me an update. He was still logging the traffic from the partner's system (the ISP wanted extensive logs to prove the customer was abusing their service) and like magic one day, it all stopped. ~2 weeks after the 'break up'.8 -
Fuck ISP. Just moved to nz. Explain to this company im working at home on the internet. Need it fast.
Takes 8 days to get the 📦 in a country of 5 million people. Wtf.
Box does not contain all default connections for box to work in a default house hold.
Call them. Tells me i have to go get it myself because i didnt request it. Fuck you or did you just fuck me.
Pay 100 dollars (this is in new zealand even though it feels like afghanistan. Not trying to offenecse any on here btw) a month for unlimited internet and phoneline.
They forget to put on the phone line.
Pay their fucking stupid 4 dollar cable insurance because new zealand has houses built for fucking cave people with 0 insolation and prone to dampness.
First day connections dont work. Well is that not fucking beautiful. I actually payed 4 worthy dollars.
WRONG YOU MOTHER FUCKER.
They tell me i didnt take the insurance.i go mayhem tell them how useless they are. So they send some one 8am the next mornin while activating the insurance. Ho yeah they also told me they forgot to include landline in my account.
Now 2 days in everything works im happy. Wake up to “your account has been suspended because you went over the max 200$ of your credit. You owe us 250$ before you can re-activate your account....
Inside boiling. Rudness and caps just won`t help.... I need some blood.... Some ISP blood....12 -
Screw the German Telekom!
I recently got a new home without internet so naturally, I went to an isp, Telekom. I went there a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised by the personal and the general competence. He told me they would send a technician to check my cable. So I thought great and went home. 1 A week passes, nobody shows up. I then went back to the shop and asked(someone different). He basically told me that such a service must be specifically asked for and a contract has to be signed. I then told
him his colleague told me no such thing, and that the technician should have checked up on my connection last week. He excuses him self and I signed the thingy.
Now you would imagine that this would have worked.
but.
NOOOoooo.
A week came and went and I got pissed. So I went back to the shop the guy from the first try was there. I Asked what happened, he types in his Computer. and. and. and. nothing. Apparently, the previous guy forgot, fucking forgot, to enter my request to their bloody System.
Now I asked if I can Just become a customer.
Guy: Sure, what speed is available in your region?
Me: I don't know...
Guy: Let me check
/Type/ /Type/
Guy: I can't see your speed the technician should have checked.
Me: Um, so, can he check?
Guy: Clearly you don't know what you want
Me:???
Guy:*leaves table*
(shorten but you get the Idea)
At this point, I really wanted to change isp so I went to Vodafone.
Lady comes up to me asks me a bunch of stuff and I explain I would want to change my phone, internet, tv, mobile and my friends mobile(I lost a bet once ^~^) to Vodafone.
What happened next I can't really explain, but she talked to her boss and "cheated" (how she calls it) on Vodafone and got me an AMAZING deal it is cheaper than Telekoms has waay more mobile data, faster Internet and I got a new phone :D.
And guess what she could fucking check, fucking check from here Computer my max internet speed.
I can only hope that the lady got a big fat commission for what she has done.6 -
I sat in a 30 minute meeting with our company's ISP. We ended up talking about devRant for 10 of those minutes2
-
So my ISP decided it was ok for them to log into my router remotely and re enable the wifi.
I turned it off for a reason and no your excuse that it will improve my upload speed is bullshit you stupid patronising fucking shithead.
I'm now seriously looking into cancelling my service with you because you don't respect your customers or their wishes.
Also I'm guessing there's a default backdoor password into the router as I changed all the passwords I could find. Meaning the whole thing is horribly insecure.11 -
256 kbps internet from Iran Telecommiunication Center ISP

I am about to move into my own house. Yay. But every ISP I called is very insistent that there is no house there.
"Are you sure you entered the right building number? The entered house does not exist." Yes it does! And it has existed since 1912...
Stupid Germany with its stupidly bad internet infrastructure. I guess that's what you get for privatizing the network.7 -
So we're hiring for a new junior dev and for the most part it's been going great! We have some promising candidates and I am so glad to finally have a new dev on the team!
However, I would like to take a moment and offer a few suggestions to the people who wish to work for this great and illustrious company:
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE APPLY FOR THE JOB USING THE METHOD INDICATED IN THE AD. Please use our fancy, top-of-the-line, whiz-bang, cloud-based "talent acquisition" system that we paid way too much money for. I promise you, it's easy! Please don't send in your application by email, mail, telephone, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Snapchat, telegram or carrier pigeon. But most importantly...
FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS BEAUTIFUL IN THIS WORLD DO NOT SHOW UP AT OUR OFFICE UNANNOUNCED RESUME-IN-HAND. Believe it or not I do have an actual job that I spend my day doing! If I'm not in a meeting or at lunch or working from home, the best possible scenario is that you'll get 30 seconds of awkward small talk and be pointed to our whiz-bang, top-of-the-line "talent acquisition" system which you should have used in the first place (you did read the ad, right?). And at this point whatever you do...
DO NOT DEMAND AN ON-THE-SPOT INTERVIEW WHEN YOU SHOW UP UNANNOUNCED TO OUR OFFICE! Like, really? Do you think that you've wowed me so with your 30 seconds of awkward small talk that clearly I cannot wait to see what you will do with an entire hour? Look, I prepare for my interviews. I research you, your previous employers, your school and the hobbies you list on your resume. I check out your GitHub and LinkedIn. I may even Google your name! If that is all in order, I try to hassle some people into sitting in with me, find a time that works for everyone, and hope that there is a meeting room available. I'm not going to interview you at reception at 4pm on a Friday afternoon.
Please submit your application through our whiz-bang, top-of-the-line online "talent acquisition" system. Once I figure out how to log in, I promise I will spend an evening and read through all your cover letters with the utmost care. If you seem OK, you'll get an interview. There aren't that many developers in this town.7 -
So my ISP just called me again that I'm sending plenty of spam. This time, I have all flows logged, so I know for sure that it wasn't my TV (only vulnerable device with internet access) and as my switch was offline there is nothing in front of my router anymore. And I learned that all the spam was going directly to their smtp server which I never used and didn't even know they have some. All in all everything points to their cable modem. Will tell them that in response to the mail they promised to send me. Really looking forward to new at least a little bit competent ISP (alternative should be available soon).3

First lecture of computer networks. Let's shove all of these abbreviations with their meaning, and possibly a associated port number in one 1.5 hour lecture:
HTTP, HTTPS, FTP, FTPS, SFTP, TCP, IP, UDP, ISP, DSL, DNS, LAN, WLAN, WDM, P2P, TELNET, PGP, TLS, SSL, SSH, MIME, SMTP, POP3, IMAP, IANA, DHT, RTT, DHCP
I really feel sorry for students who didn't have previous knowledge about this stuff..5 -
My cousin is mad on his ISP
ISP promise 16 Mbps
he only get 2MBps max when he downloads
hahahaha,know your bits and bytes3 -
Internet stopped working yesterday and the ISP company told me they couldn't send a person for a week!
I'm stuck at home, I have to have internet.
Long story short, I got no sleep last night and I may have voided my routers warranty, but I got internet.8 -
Does anyone else love it when you pay for 150 Mb/s download and your ISP throttles your connection so you only get 1 Mb/s max?14
-
When your ISP tells you they will transfer your internet connection to your new house in one month and they give you 10GBs on your mobile phone.
And I'm like "Ummm okay, this might be enough for a day or so... ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ "4 -
Small random update regarding my ISP and how they call your speed if you use all of your data.
I actually sent them a small complaint (more of a suggestion but) that 256 Kbps is just too slow even for a capped penalty speed and that at least 1 Mbps so that the internet is still usable but still slow... And mother fucker if that isn't exactly what they did!
It's nice being able to sync my code and have more than 1 device connected to the wifi at once... It's a strange feeling when a company actually listens to feedback and takes measures on them...5 -
It is once again that time of year when we say farewell to our current interns and say hello to a brand new batch.
The two groups overlap for a few days. During this time the old interns show the new interns the ropes, while the mentors silently weep in the lunchroom having realized that nothing that they've said over the last 12 months has had any effect whatsoever.
Some choice quotes:
---
New Intern: It says 'uncaught exception'.
Old Intern: Oh don't worry that will fix itself on production.
---
OI: Did you pull the code?
NI: Yeah, but I have all these weird brackets everywhere... [merge conflict]
OI: Oh yeah that happens sometimes, just delete them.
---
NI: It says "push to master rejected". [we enforce code reviews]
OI: Ohh that means the server is broken. You should tell someone, they have to reboot it.
---
NI: Where did that file save to? [we use ONLY macOS and Linux]
OI: C:\Users\<your name>\My Documents\...
---
OI: You can use either pgAdmin or MySQL Workbench. I like Workbench better but I couldn't get it to work, it kept giving me errors.

And of course...

OI: No, we don't use Linux. We use CentOS.

I did the math today. Only 35 more years and I can retire.5 -
When you live in a 3rd world country, get a relatively expensive 16mbps connection (that's still very unreliable), and try to clone WebKit… why the hell is it so large even with `--depth 1` and `--single-branch`? Why doesn't `git clone` support resuming/incremental cloning? Is this even 2018?
I want to code but life is actively fighting me right now. I hate this.
/rant26 -
- Ran `brew install maven`
- Left my terminal to have some fun because of the slow network (fuck my ISP btw)
- Came back after ~15 mins to look at the terminal cause' installation should've finished.
- Checked terminal.
- Realised I ran `brew isntall maven` instead.

Internet went down at the office, was 10pm so probably time to stop working anyways.
Get home, Internet is down. Text friend, their Internet is down.
The isp for this entire area is offline.8 -
Seriously, fuck that incompetent ISP of mine.
Stores passwords in fucking plaintext. Does VoIP calling in plaintext! Passwords are sent over postal mail! Passwords are at least not sent in plain via email anymore when you want to reset them. The password reset form, "cannot contain `", "cannot contain "", "cannot contain '", "must contain a special character" because why the fuck not mess with people's password manager's password generation function over our own incompetence, right?! And showing all those errors for a single password? Eh, no. Let's just show one error that applies to whatever password you've given at that time. JUST ONE, because "reasons"! And to top it all off, when I finally made myself a nice password with some padding to remove unwanted chars and put that in my password store and on the website. THE BLOODY THING CAN'T EVEN FUCKING LOGIN?!
Now I ain't no ISP, but being a sysadmin clearly isn't a requirement when you're going to apply for work at an ISP, THAT DOES NOTHING BUT FUCKING SYSADMIN STUFF!!! Incompetent pieces of SHIT!!!3 -
Fuck you Australian Fucking Internet!!
Yea sure i have fucking hours to sit here and fucking upload a 4GB repo to gitlab at 5kb/s!!! - yes the slow ass KILOBYTES, you overly expensive piece of horse shit.
fuck it, connects to phone and bam 1MB/s uploads, well theres goes a chunk of this month data :(7 -

And again...
Our ISP doesn’t say it blocks any port on our Business Fixed IP. Currently I’m trying to access port 25 for SMTP. Guess what? Indeed port blocked. Called them “The port is open”, I visit a port checked, the same thing “Port Closed”
Always the fucking same thing. Every fcking time. These are just criminals. Lastly I removed their router, that they mentions was the only working router in our house and our signal from the other router, not provided by them was much better. They blocked the hotspots because we removed the router then. Guess what? On their site is an option Enable Hotspot on your home router (this enables your access to hotspots). Just pressed it. Haaa they can’t acces my router to set that up and it works.
In our second home, we have another ISP, Proximus, first they did difficult to come and install everything. Because in the appartment the previous owners didn’t pay the bills. After a week or so someone came to install it. Because they cut the cables couldn’t do it myself. Ok it worked for some time. After 3-4 months by once I can’t access the camera there, strange. My uncle went there and there was no internet. Neither TV. But we never received any invoice. Because they didn’t send them. We contacted them, no response. My father sends them an email, with politic people in copy and by once they called to say they will turn it back and scrap the invoices that were not send. They said no technician needed to come, as it’s second home. Guess what, next day a message came “We will arrive in less than an hour”
My uncle went. They did nothing, only restart the modem.
There still was no internet after two days after they came. We called back, response was: “There wasn’t anyone.” Yeah right, we have proof of a technicial that passed (Local Video). By once the internet worked.
Now 4 months later, still didn’t receive any invoice, neither via post or email.
Fuck those criminals, called ISPs20 -
So I'm working on an CLI right now that fetches data from a website and downloads other stuff based on that data etc bla bla. And since its async it can fully taste my whole internet speed (130Mb/s).
So everything's good and I started working on a new feature. I started the app and it worked... For 3 minutes. After that it just stopped. It didn't even freeze or anything. After 2 hours of debugging and 3 cans of coffee I was so frustrated I just wanted to watch some YouTube and relax. That's the moment I realized I didn't even have internet. I hate my ISP...4 -
So for last few days my internet is super slow. Tried calling ISP helpline but they suck too. I have no other way than to change my ISP which would take few days.
Any suggestion for what should i work on during these boring days with no learning resources on my disk and super slow internet. Seems like i'm living in a cave.4 -
Still working for the biggest German ISP...
Intern Websites are only for FUCKING IE11!
CMON GUYS WHY EVEN LET PEOPLE INSTALL CHROME AND FIREFOX WHEN ITS NOT FUCKING SUPPORTED! FUCK OFF25 -

Ok seriously what the actual fuck is this even supposed to be
Narnia has have better bandwidth than this16 -
I'm juste laughing .
I just can't.. Ok :
1. I pay for 1Gb down, 750 Mb up.
They usually provide 10% more.
So did already post speed tests here.
Now for uknown reason, my download went to 600 Mbps.
Not a big deal, I I still called ISP.
After all tests done, they bumped my conexion. And even with bump I still have obly 550 Mbps.
But, LOOH AT THAT UPLOAD !!!
That upload is insane. And i'm pretty sure it's limited by my only 2.5 Gbps card
Fort lazy :

I switched ISP package to a "business grade connection" (not just a marketing meme, actually meant for businesses), which is easily three times the default and yet still my fucking internet goes down every third day.21
-
Today my grandmother called and told me she wasnt able to login to her account for her ISP. Alright, maybe shes confused about the passwords as we had to change it recently. No, turns out they still have this "oh sorry you typed your password incorrect three times, so we will lock your account and your granny have to do the 2 hour telephone queue"
You and your fucking outdated auth practise can go and kindly fuck yourself. Fix this shit before I get real mad.5 -
My ISP can suck the biggest, sweatiest pile of dicks.
First of all, our normal service is garbage (1mb down, 0.1 up).
On top of that, for some reason, the Internet access goes down for a few minutes every time the public IP changes (2-3 times a day) which is fucking annoying.
And THEY FUCKING BROUGHT FIBRE TO MY NEIGHBOUR (20 METRES DOWN THE STREET) WHO IS AN OLD COUPLE WHO HAVE 0 INTEREST IN THE INTERNET, BUT THEY REFUSE TO BRING IT TO ME.
Fucking Vodafone, get your shit together.9 -
Dear ISP,
Thank your for throttling my internet right in the middle of a hurricane! Now not only does Netflix not work and GitHub take forever, but I can't even get live weather updates. Time to code using cave paintings I guess till the power goes out.3 -
Just stumbled across this gem last night. You guys know how biggest online games site in my country (also backed up by largest ISP) handles reset password requests?
After clicking "Forgot password", it asks you to login to Gmail (cause everyone is assumed to have and use one, right?) and then opens "New Email" window prefilled with some template data which you're expected to finish (in screenshot below).
And I just wanted to play some Ludo with my friends.. 🙄🙈2 -
Not hacking per se, but I noticed an email floating between ISP and director about radius server login details, promptly saved for future reference.
One day noticed someone downloading mucho dataro... Pissed me off, interrupting my video stream.
Logged into radius server, blocked MAC address.1 -
Had no internet for hours.
Called the support.
"We will fix it!" they said and they actually did. So maybe there are competent people working there as well???
No. Of course not.
Two hours later I receive a call from them. "It was not our fault. There was an update so we had to plug the cables back into the right ports."
Software update

Just got a call from someone claiming to be from an ISP (they assumed we were with them because that ISP is one of the popular options, we weren't) they claimed that someone was using our internet illegally (which they cannot find out from what I know unless it really was an assumption), that were using too much data (we are on an unlimited plan and have fibre LOL)
The nerve of some people, my dad was the one who answered the phone and when he handed it off to me, they hung up LOL.
So in saying that i have their phone number thanks to my router's caller id, anyone want it to sell off to more scammer for some good ol' karma?5 -
Hmm internet connection is down. Check isp status page...no issues. Wait 50mins on phone to get to support, where they tell me there is a known issue, reported 4 hours ago. After call check isp status page...no issues
Is AWS selling status pages as a service now?5 -
I spent the last three weeks+ (literally THREE full weeks, weekends too) building something I thought was really cool, powerful, and useful. Made a blog post, posted a giant thread on the company Twitter.
Literally one person gave it a like.
I don't know why I give shit anymore, cuz nowadays if it isn't about getting rich quick, cHaTgPt, or some other made up hype, no one cares. Apparently I shouldn't either...
Meanwhile my 16 GIGABYTE RAM MAC, yes 16 GIGABYTE RAM can't even hold power while plugged in, and I'm still clowning around with an ancient iPhone 6 (actually one of my mom's old iphones) that barely stays above 20% battery for more than an hour...
And FINALLY, my FUCKING ISP is for sure screwing me, since I've been doing some hard core data streaming and broadcasting, even though I pay $60+ month for that shit it, keeps dropping out, shit doesn't load.... I mean wtf this isn't 1990 dialup AOL anymore
When I step back I just feel like the worlds biggest loser, maybe the world's biggest 🤡7 -
LOL (Lots of Love) to CG (Chaudhary Group) of Nepal.
They're providing new ISP service 120mbps (double the speed of existing competitors) on half the price of current competitor's 60mbps package.
This is unheard of.
for context:
competitors : 60mbps -> $20/month
New CG net: 120mbps-> $9/month40 -
I think my ISP has been a little sneaky cum gargler. Nothing wanted to stream properly for awhile now. When even youtube struggles shit is wrong.
Installed protonvpn now and by the power of some magical internet ball bag the internet came forth and is streaming at 720p no buffer even required and from a not so glorious server.
did they try to keep me blind? Not no more I have wiped that jizz off my face.4 -
After months of googling and troubleshooting my router settings trying to figure out why my port forwarding settings are not working only to realize that I'M BEING CGNATTED TO OBLIVION BY MY FUCKING ISP WITHOUT A FUCKING NOTICE!

"The password must have 7 or 8 characters (numbers and/or letters)”
says Movistar, the biggest ISP and telecom company in Spain ... I can't even.6 -
I swear my ISP has already done away with net neutrality. My connection is always going out whenever I need to look something up for work.3
-
Just purchased a new house and was looking for a new ISP. Found a local ISP that is still offering dial up services and "Professional Website Design". Their website was obviously pre-web 2.0 all static nested tables and sliced images.4
-
My ISP just called, because I didn't extend my 2 year contract. The reason is that paying 13 euros for 50/30 (Mb) internet when I can get 600/60 from another ISP for 20 euros or 300/30 for 15 euros sucks. Additionally, my current ISP only offers 100/30 at maximum according to their website...
Guess what?
They just offered me 1Gb/100Mb over the phone for a FUCKING 20 EUROS. What???14 -
This was a long time ago, when I was working part time in my uni helpdesk. as part of the uni IT service, they offered ISP services at the dorms. It was cheap, and fast. This essentially allowed students living in the dorms to connect thier personal computers to the uni LAN. Then one day...
An ARP poison malware infected some of those computers. An arp poison attack is simple (look at ettercap) - it redirects network traffic via the affected computer, and adds malware to webtraffic to infect more computers. One of these on a network is bad enough, but when there more then one... traffic was redirected a lot. this caused the Dorm switches to collapse under the load. Fun times to work at the helpdesk...
The IT guys came up with a solution for this: they blocked the arp poision attacks at the firewall, and then disabled the switch port for the infected computer for 24 hours. so, when someone called with 'I have no internet!', we told them to bring us the computer, and installed an AV on it.
3-4 month the problem was cleared. -
(On the phone)
Internet Provider Support: "Hello, how can I help you?"
Me: "Hi, I've been unable to connect to internet for the past few hours and-
IPS: "Haven't you heard the pre-recorded message?!"
Me: "Uh... No? I'm sorry, but no message was played before you answered."
ISP: "Well, internet services are experiencing technical issues in your whole area. We'll contact you soon as it's resolved." *Hangs up*
...The company then proceeded to state that everything was fine, after a few hours. On their website. Without specifying how to manually restore the connection at all, since apparently this was needed.
...Great job?
This looks kinda dumb to me but... Is it just me?6 -
For our business we are paying the highest plan the ISP provides (240 mbps) but we get 110 kb/s. Wtf!! You write them, they answer “give your address”, done, “we doesn’t see any problems”, calls a friend that also uses Telenet, “do you have problems”, “yes, no internet”. What de F*** is wrong?? It’s nearly a month like that!! They really need to do something!!16
-
So I work for an ISP in the customer support center and we use slack for communication... As you can tell by my starred channels; we do plenty of work...
(Yes, potato is dedicated to nothing but potato)6 -
Apparently my ISP does hosting.. and puts in their higher tier hosting package.. MySQL 5. And they actually market this. Version 5.0 got released in 2005 and after 2015, we're at version 8.
Anyone seen the machete? I've got some heads to take.20 -
The technician from my previous ISP was creating a mess. The cables were worn out and overall the service quality started degrading. Maybe I too had an old router.
After 10 years of loyalty, decided to switch the ISP. Similar plan, better rates. However, this one is fibre optic.
Expecting better service and less bandwidth drop. We just got the installation done and now will get the connection activated next week.
The ISP has also agreed to provide me a free 5G router, so yayayay!!5 -
How fucking stupid can people actually be?!
So a Swiss ISP called "Swisscom" is giving out a Picasso, like the real thing for you to keep at home for a few days or so... and they built sensors into the Frame... AND THEY HAVE A FUCKING PICTURE OF THE GPS SENSOR IN THE VIDEO! Thats not the worst... why not OPEN UP THE FRAME AND STEAL THE PICTURE?!5 -
Fucking hell my ISP gave me a router and a modem (was expecting a modem that is a router, like is at my parents house with the same ISP).
The router is absolute dog shit. My connection drops every 5 minutes or so, and sometimes every minute (give or take 10 seconds). And the signal struggles in my bedroom, even though the router is about 10 feet away from me.
What the fuck piece of garbage is this? -
WOOOP-DE-FUCKING-DO I HATE MY ISP (well actually the company which is reliable for the cable networks which lead to my/our new home).
WhAtEvErYoUmEaN and I moved yesterday to a new flat. Not spectacular at all except that mentioned company cancelled the appointment ON THE SAME FUCKING DAY! "We're so sorry. No internet until Thursday. At least"
Dickheads.
Well, so we are here in the middle of nowhere without internet. Time for old school books i guess😅6 -
This is getting WAY out of hand.
So I pay for 100/100 internet right.
I get 3/17...
This has been happening for half a year now...
The closest other ISP is 200km away......
Gonna confront them but they're probably just gonna blame my 2 year old 200$ asus router for being "too old"/"too slow".
😂🔫10 -
My ISP randomly decided to double my internet speed from 100 mbps to 200 mbps.
I'm kinda interested to see why. Idk if they're gonna do this then snatch it away in a couple months, then come at with an offer for the same speed but more expensive, or what exactly.
We shall see.7 -
I dont need DuckDuckGo,
I dont need any VPN
I dont need all of this "Internet Privacy Service" BULLSHIT which my ISP wants me to use,
I DONT NEED ANY OF THIS FUCKING SHIT!
AND I DONT WANT IT EITHER!
I HAVE MY OWN PI HOLE!
AND THATS FUCKING ENOUGH FOR WHAT I NEED! STOP TELLING ME ABOUT ALL THIS "We are clearly not logging your shit" WHILE YOU DO!!
Because I have my own shit!
Thx10 -
NewLifeNewHope update No.2 / Day 5
My Server Is finally opened and i installed 2x8 TB WDC Harddrives and SATA 128 SSD. I know this server is freaking garbage, but i got this PC for free, and have somewhat good-ish upgrade path, so heres the spec :
-Gigabyte H110m-S2 LGA1151
-Intel i3-6300
-8GB DDR4 single channel RAM
-128 GB SSD
-2x8TB Harddrives
-TP-Link 1000mbps NIC
so the plan is to make this server as the Main Repository -- yes no offsite backup plan for now -- and also i want to make this server as an Email Server and for hosting my company's website. I've already asked for static IP from my ISP and will take effect tommorow.
I need help for choosing the Operating System (i like centOS) for my server. and to setting this Server to work like what i planned but i don't know where to start, Any help and/or References will be great !14 -
I have an exam in 4 hours. I've been studying all night and now I can't seem to retain anything.
I'm fuckin screwed.10 -
Remember when Level3 was just a simple backbone provider and not a threat to the internet itself on account of being owned and operated by the incompetent fucks at the worst ISP in the US?
We really need some regulation that states ISPs, cable companies and telephone companies are ineligible to be backbone providers. Shit is too important.
https://fiercetelecom.com/telecom/...5 -
I don't think it's a coincidence that my internet disconnects for a few seconds when i click link to porn sites.
Happy everytime time :/10 -
So couple of days ago a competitor ISP rep. came to our door, describing that people in the neighbourhood reported outtages to them from the competitor (thats already questionable, why would somebody report that to another ISP, instead of the actual ISP? like we always do) and they said they did their magical lines or whatever and that the old line we use is faulty etc. - the internet was actually stable for a good while now finally, now today it cut off, I suspect they want to force contract changes by "accidentally" fucking with the shit somewhere for sure, fucking shit gargling goblins, I was a client of that competitor ISP for a good portion of my life and each time I moved they left me without internet for atleast 5 months and that only because I threatened action, their general service also isn't more stable, literally fucking throwing a paperplane with my packets is more reliable than their bullshit alternative, their offer also would cut 90% of options I have with the current one, leaving me without telephone, tv, mobile and more - since all that would have to be contracted seperately, ending in roughly 450% actual raise per month, I fucking hate ISPs.
-
There seems to be a lot of people protesting and coming together in support of net neutrality.
The rant here, where the fuck were all of you during the election? That was the time to come together and do something, now your efforts are futile.
What's worse, I'll wager net neutrality gets overturned and next election the same batch of assholes get voted in.
What can you actually do to solve the problem? Peer to peer internet similar to tor but fast enough to support considerable traffic. Platform needs to be like tor with encrypted decentralized DNS.
Start an ISP. This would also help.
Get cracking, smart people.7 -
Sooo I'm moving and I contacted my ISP to transfer my internet connection to the new house. And they told me they'll do it after the New Years Eve...
Trying to stay calm....2 -
So I get home from work, sit down infront of my computer and start browsing a few sites.
The loading times was not as fast as they should so I checked out my network setup. I had been auto connected to my ISP provided modems WiFi, which happens every now and then, so I reconnect to my faster and better WiFi AP.
Invalid password. What? Ok.. Let me just type in the same password, slowly..
Invalid password. MF..... Same password, looking down at my keyboard.
Invalid password. GDMF...
Browse to my AP config site, type in username and password.
Invalid password. Oh no you fucking did not just deny me entry as well.
Ok. Something is up and I'm going to get to the bottom of this!
Boot up Kali, fires loads of crap at the WiFi and the site. Still no damn luck! WTH!
I go upstairs to my AP, turn it off and on again.
I can now login on both my AP WiFi and config page.
It had frozen.
Thats two hours of troubleshooting for a "have you tried turning it off and on again" solution.
I feel great about my competence after this.2 -
Yes, my ISP supports ipv6 to home too, and after some hacking around my servers can serve my websites on ipv6 :D3
-
Just spent literally six hours trying to get my aunt's enterprise-grade 20 mb fiber optic Internet back on tracks.
Two hours trying to reach the technical support, two hours to explain that I was "unexpectedly" hung up by the previous attendant, and honest to hell, two more hours trying to explain what "latency" is.
Seriously, how much do they pay these technicians nowadays?4 -
Holy retarded internet company. The fiber cable that comes from the power pole lost its connection to the building I live in. So the fiber was laying on the ground in the parking lot. The upside is it is still working. The problem is people are going to run over the fiber and break it. So I sent an email to the ISP on Thursday. They didn't create a ticket all day on Friday. By the time I got home they were not open. I called their tech support number and pressed 0 until I got a real person. I explained they need to fix this soon or it will get broken. They said "I understand" and then proceeded to create a ticket for fucking wednesday next week! I told them it will damaged by then. They said "I understand". Then I get a text saying they will do this wednesday. No you stupid fuckers, you do not understand!
Queue the McGuiver music:
I got out some steel wire I use to fix stupid shit like this. I made a hook to connect the steel cable holding the fiber. This hook will go around some exposed electrical conduit. Then I got a board to lift it up high (no ladder and 5 inches thick of ice on ground). I cannot balance wire hook on board and get it to slip down. So I got a steel pole I have and attached another hook with electrical tape. As I passed the hook over the conduit I used other pole to grab bottom of hook and pull it down to keep a hold of the conduit. Now the fiber is up in the air again above the parking lot. I hope this stupid hack works until wednesday. My right arm hurts like hell cause the strain of holding the fiber taut while I pulled the hook down. It strained my right hand.
Worst customer service on the planet with Century Stink. They fucking make it harder than hell to get help and it seems they take almost a week to fix shit.4 -
Decided to swap ISP.
Arranged that my new ISP started today and my old one would end next week so I had some wiggle room for issues.
Today my old ISP just disconnected my house in the middle of the day.
Then my new ISP failed to connect me and _might_ have it fixed tomorrow.
Looking forward to working remotely over 5G...5 -
I don't get much spam, but when I do, I rant about how badly those mails are crafted.
I mean, yeah, for non-devs or typical old people, those badly made Google fake mails (that use the old Google logo, the logo in Times New Roman or something) or ISP / phone company mails with malicious attachments may look good enough.
But, seriously, if I were a dev paid to create spam mails, they would look like the real deal, if I may say so myself, as I would actually put some effort in them.
What do you think? Wouldn't spam made by real developers like us be "better"?
Maybe send some examples from inside your junk box 🤔3 -
At my last gig I was working at a small ISP and my boss was asking why our throughput went to shit every time he checked the router web ui. I told him it was because the web server on the router uses up a lot of CPU time, and that meant the router couldn't process as many packets since it uses that same CPU for well routing, nat, firewall rules etc...so it's probably best to use the CLI instead. Boss says, "YOU DON'T TELL ME WHAT TO DO!!!" And continues to destroy throughput by looking at the web ui.
TL;DR Boss yelled at me for telling him how things work. Yay.1 -
I was just going to sign up for a new ISP when they asked for my email. But they managed to screw up the email form validation by only allowing domains with the tld comprising of two or three characters! My email address ends with “.blog” so had to use my university email 😠
Please follow the RFC6 -
The largest ISP in my country, a government backed service, hijacks URLs randomly and injects pop up into web browser!
Imagine if getting hijacked during an online transaction... Glad it never happened yet.
But Fuck them for doing this.7 -
You wouldn’t think that finding a home that actually had internet service would be the hardest part of house shopping in 2018...
Satellite internet does not count as internet. Also my statements apply to the US market only. Idk how bad this is in other countries.4 -

So after 5 months of complaining and ISP denying that the modem was at fault for the issues ("because they'd get more complaints if it was") while trying to rip us off as well[1], they finally gave in to sending us one of the modems "intended for their business users"[2].
Low and behold... I haven't had any issues yet in the past few days (as opposed to having issues between 3 and 8 times a day).
Nah lads, surely wasn't the piece of shit old modem that is known to have a severe design flaw right? :^)
Must have been my router and devices behind it right? :^)

So I was playing with deauthing because I was curious about to and I got this little deauthing tool and I no joke fucked up my whole network for hours.
In my house we recently had tplink smart light switches installed and that created 40 more iot devices on the network. Soooo I disconnected them all at once and also cloned my AP so they went into this limbo state where they could not connect to anything and also for some reason Ethernet stopped working I think my isp thought I was getting a DOS attack or something idk but no joke took me hours to fix it.3 -
I have probably the BEST DDOS DETECTION WORLDWIDE! It detects any DoS or DDoS at my private Network.
How it works?
Everytime I get attacked(so pretty often) my phone rings. But if I answer the phone there's only a "Beep Beep Beep". Shortly afterwards my connection shuts down 😂😂6 -
Some tech from our ISP decided to fiddle with our connection during stand up. Our CTO is all up in his business, trying to figure out what the issue is. The tech is being pushed more and more away as our devops people join in on the chaos. Meanwhile I'm having coffee and looking forward to lunch.. Can't test if I don't have access to the server.
-
When i was working for an ISP, our lead developer was the most arrogant, self indulgent person with the worst god complex imaginable.
He would continuously belittle people until eventually i snapped and he stopped.
It wasn't long after that i lost that job because of my 'performance' which of course i challenged with proof of it being utter bullshit to which they removed my proof and continued on like it didn't matter.2 -
So after fucking around with me and promising me that I'd be first call if a position opened up but then hiring someone who didn't even show up for there previous interview, one of them messaged me saying a local ISP is looking to fill customer support positions...
Ho ho ho ho! Fuck you buddy! :-D -

The new bill passed the house for ISP to be able to sell data. This get me ticked off. I already ausme that ISP did it under the table. Doesn't make it right. Now it legal for them to breach our privacy. At what leave do i need to run my own internet just to feel safe. VPN can sell the data, ISP can sell data about you. I spend my life teaching how to protect people online and now I can't even say they are safe at home from someone with wrong intention. A quote comes to mind.
"Dear lord I need to see some change, because the man in the mirror is wearing a mask"
I shouldn't have to feel every time. I boot my PC, that I need to remind my self that what I'm doing now is being sold so someone can lable me. When will the common man learn to protect their privacy online; And where is the line in the sand?
It not all bad, this event has given me the itch to code. Just to spin some heads I'm going to make a script to make random Google query across the widest array of topics, so my profile is full of contradiction.
The few who read this have a nice day!6 -
Oh boy... IM ANGRY!
My lovely ISP just sent me my new Reciever and router, they now are 2 seperate things, which shouldve made stuff easier for me... SHOULD have...
So I connected both with ethernet, power etc... and... nope...the Reciever didnt accept the Router... nice. very nice... after HALF an HOUR i finally got through Support, amd they said "Use your old Reciever/Router combo, we will activate the new one on monday" so I went like:
Ok, that should work!
And nope. For whatever reason as soon as my new Reciever was plugged in, it sent a message to the ISP which went like:
"Im on the net, deactivate the old one"
You know what happened now...
My old Reciever/Router combo is deactivated and my ISP cant activate it because the departement for this doesnt work on the Weekend...
And my new one cant be Activated because its seperate now and the Router isnt activated by my ISP...
Now im here, with my phone as a FUCKING HOTSPOT FOR EVERYTHING I HAVE!
Alexa? Hotspot.
PC? Hotspot.
TV? Hotspot...
Fuck this...
FUCK.6 -
Well I probably should have been more prepared for this, but i was able to backup, upload and transfer my websites from my own server to my backup host provider while my ISP has been down for the past couple hours. Fun stuff.
-
So this will be my first rant/story sorry if it gets too long.
So finished work and I was like finally some days off, went to bed, woke up the next morning, went to near city to take care of some work, went back and I noticed they were digging the ground near my place, as I've found out from neighbors they were changing some pipes, well ok no problem arrived home, sat on my PC to study a bit and do a bit gaming, but guess what?? NO INTERNET well ok contacted the ISP, the idiots told me it will take them 2 days to arrive WTF? is this 2018 or 1918?? I was so pissed off but ok the next day they called me that they arrived, they checked and said that they will need to fix some wires they will return the same day.. so I've waited few hours but no internet, the asholes didn't came, so the next day they arrived and guess what?! the idiots that digged the holes cut the wires, instead of fucking contacting the ISP to ask for supervisor to tell them where they can dig they didn't know what was the fire for and they thought oh well lets cut the fucking wire, and instead of stopping and contacting the ISP about their mistake they continued with the digging and cut the wire at 3 places, so the ISP at the end called the police, the plumbers that did the digging where just laughing, why do you laugh you primitive ashole, even 10 year old would first ask if it can continue if it finds something that he didn't know about it (I call primitive the person not the job title), and the best part is that the idiots not only they cut the wire at 3 places they also took part of it out of the ground and then they filled the holes back! Now I won't have internet for 2 fucking weeks, yes in 2018 this is happening, at that moment I was so pissed, but kept my cool and contacted the ISP to give me LTE USB stick to use it for the next 2 weeks, sadly they couldn't do that wtf??? So I asked politely who will pay the damage for me not working for 2 weeks and they said that they will gladly pay the damage.. So I was confused because that literally meant that they will compassed me for the 2 weeks, so I re-asked are they sure about that and they said yes, so lets see what it will be done, in the meantime I solved the internet problem by using my phone to access internet on the PC.. But still its amazing how primitive people can be and how ISP don't have alternative solutions for such cases, just to point out this sam ISP bragged how they will be among the first to bring 5G when it arrives... LOL4 -
I'm so done with my ISP. ITS THE FOURTH TIME THIS WEEK MY FUCKING INTERNET RANDOMLY DISAPPEARS BETWEEN 21:30 AND 22:00. AND ITS THE FOURTH DAY OF THE WEEK!!!! I GO TO FUCKING SCHOOL AT 6AM AND COME BACK AT 8 TO 9 MOST DAYS. OH BUT GUESS WHAT? NORMAL PEOPLE WOULD BE ABLE TO PLAY GAMES AT THIS TIME, CHAT WITH FRIENDS ON TEAMSPEAK OR JUST WATCH FUCKING SERIES. BUT ME?? NO, DO SHIT THE WHOLE DAY JUST TO GET HOME AND GET DISAPPOINTED AGAIN.3

ISP: "We are going to give you this piece of garbage Puma6 modem that will cause your internet to randomly die because we want to save a few bucks instead of actually having it function properly"
Me: "Can I replace it with my own?"
ISP: "No?"
I love not having fibre.
So either I shoot myself in the foot by going to another ISP (meaning I'll get *at best* 1/5th of the speed, while my current speed already is a severe bottleneck) or I have to keep content with this fucking piece of garbage internet that decides to commit sudoku over nothing...7 -
Modem issues kept going on.
Started complaining to them again and requesting they send one of their proper modems.
Service: "Unfortunately it is not possible to request a different modem"
Me (tho *slightly* more polite): "I don't care, you guys caused this issue by sending us a shitty modem, so you guys are now to send me a proper modem, period. I'm done with having unstable internet because <ISP> doesn't want to admit their modems are flawed by design and deliver proper ones."
Service: "I have good news! We can swap out your modem for the one you requested"
Sometimes, you just have to bitch hard enough. -
Stories from a Startup #2
One day our CEO stormed through the office, going door-to-door holding a cease-and-desist notice he got from our ISP because someone decided to pirate "Chappie" at work.
Definitely wasn't me. 👀 Don't know if he found out who did it, though... but we all certainly knew.5 -
...when you find yourself circumventing your own security measures that you lectured the entire team about...1

So, I move house with my amazing, already configured and stable router with built in VPN, DDNS, Port forwarding and DHCP addresses.
Received ISP shitty router at new address and want to use as modem only, so I go read the manual.
"Bridge mode requires you to configure your other router with PPPoE and the ISP's credentials"
Landline is not working, so I cannot call the number to retrieve my password. After 2 days of waiting, engineer visits, installs master socket, dial tone yaaay.
Call number to get password, automated voice message has such a bad sound quality that I cannot figure out if it's saying F or S, and there are two of those letters.
Put ISP router in bridge mode, set other router to PPPoE and put credentials, nothing. Try with F and F, S and F, F and S, S and S... Nothing. Put it back to dynamic IP address, it works.
I resign myself and manually configure everything I had on the good router to the ISP one. A few issues with my server and DDNS, but hey, internet works.
Start missing the other functionality, try the password idiocy again. Nothing.
Next day, go to work, talk to a colleague that lives close and has the same provider: "I just put it into bridge mode and it worked".
Go back home, bridge mode on ISP router, Dynamic IP on good router, no credentials. It works.
Why do I always overcomplicate stuff?4 -
I'm addicted to world of warships right now😫
Which game you guys plays a lot ?
Used to play cs 1.6 a lot too 😝
Yeah I know 1600 BC Game but it's still really fun😄17 -
HEY Y'ALL! I need help.
So...... recently me and a friend are trying to move servers from a paid one to our own, named Vector. All of the web-side is basically done. However, port 25 is blocked by the ISP. After a few days of messing around in various Linux VMs, we gave up.
Point is, does anyone know where we could get a cheap VPS for email hosting?8 -
I'll post a rant (will be long) soon-ish on the root of the asinine problem...
TL;DR
Anyone got a better suggestion of killing a WLAN router signal than a Faraday Cage?
-----------------------
As to the point as I can manage atm...
My ISP forces a proprietary router/modem for them to script my static IPv4 block (/28, aka 13 usable). Modifying this equipment in any way or using the vast majority of tactics to modify its behaviour = Federal Felony... with my history, it couldn't be construed as mistake/ignorance of this fact, so I'd likely end up working for some branch of the gov to mitigate the costs of standard prison (on both ends... handicapped af = expensive af to comply with base human rights laws... plus I'd be a dangerous prisoner from what I've been told).
I NEED the ipv6 functionality TOTALLY off... I've written this into every kernel and every container config at kernel level.
The issue is, I don't trust their shit device (which "should" also be set to no ipv6 via gui... non-GUI = fed felony).
This horrid device, they apparently made them for home use initially (to be fair it has decent specs and tolerable RAM), so included WiFi... that comes on by itself.
Disable the WiFi!... except I cant (at least not without 'tampering').
Why? Well acc to the GUI it's not enabled in the first place. Acc to the 'tech support' it's apparently a paid feature (yes, nonsense) that I have not paid for (nor would I), meaning on their end's GUI and DBs I also don't have WiFi ability from that dev.
So... Not trusting the other settings and the dev, being something im not allowed to directly config outside of their GUI that doesn't realise it's putting out a usable signal despite registering DHCP on behalf of that non-existent signal. I NEED to kill those signals.
I realise it likely sounds extreme to make and use a Faraday Cage for a router/modem (secondary modem, it parses the initial modem's output, via script, to allow the static block to be accessed). I really dont know any other way that's legal to restrict it.
Oh, in case unclear, I have tried so many ways to get them to just allow me to use any device (pref. mine, but even their's) that i can simply script myself... it's a no-go.20 -
Holy shit! so after my last news report https://devrant.com/rants/1063342/... , I also shared the news in my site where there is a guy that works in a Washington ISP and also offer mail servers and such for the locals... fun and joke time has ended my friends, any SysAdmins here regarding this want to comment on this topic?9
-
So yeah, despite the technological advancements at present. Paying a lot of money just to have an internet connection with a maximum speed of only 5mbps, and having no connection during the evening.5
-
I am so pissed about my isp. They are so obviously throttling me. I am paying for business, and barely getting dsl speeds.2
-
Language Warning
There year is 2019, and down here in Australia we have a fuckup called the NBN (National Broadband Network). We all have to switch to it, from ADSL2. Promised dreams and joys, only to be fucked again and again.
Paying $89 AUD per month for 25mbps, however only getting 0.61mBITSps at times. (Literally can see it at home.danferg.com)
Call up support. "Have you rebooted your router?" Yes. "Have you done a test?" Yes. "Can you send me the screenshot?" No, I did it through the CLI. "... What's a CLI?" Fuck.
"So.. have you got a test?" Yeah, I have 7000 of them, from each minute of the day for the past while. *Silence* "oh.... Ok well, we'll have to see if you qualify for a discount" DISCOUNT?! GIVE ME MY FUCKING MONEY BACK.9 -
Shout out to the storm that left me with a spotty internet connection since the weekend... Fuck this...
Also shout out to my ISP who can still get this fixed within the week despite the weather conditions in this whole country...
And now, even public transit is down and I can't ride to work with my damn bike because of the fucking weather... Some construction job that fucked things up... Well, shout out to that guy too for smoking Crack or whatever on the job. 😠
Fuck, if this day gets any worse I will probably end up in the hospital, jail or the morgue.2 -
Trust Google. Trust the Process.
The Android Studio Installer doesn't show download progress bars, speeds, ETAs or the size of files being downloaded. I hate this design. Tell me exactly what, why, and where is being downloaded so that I can download it myself with a better HTTP large file client, put it where you want it, and restart the installer. I know my machine and ISP and Google does not. I don't trust Google to make a single right decision, and I only want to relinquish control when I don't have time to do something myself.7 -
BRAG.
New home internet conexion. (yes home).
https://speedtest.net/result/c/...
For lazy, screenshot is uploaded.
I fill it's "only" 2.5Gbps card which limits me, not ISP. But 10 G cards are fucking expensives21 -
One of the big ISP/entertainment companies dug up the roads a few months back and laid fibre optic cables (cutting through a power cable in the process but that's another story).
Recently had someone turn up at my door to chat about their services. All sounded very good, I took a card and gave it some thought and did some research.
So, it'd be a little cheaper than my current provider (FTTC setup). It'd be faster for downloads, slightly slower for uploads (I want fast upload). IPv6 is only on their business packages. I use IPv6 a lot. I also have several static IPv4 addresses.
It would involve getting a cable in to where my equipment rack is, and one to where the TV is (which I spent ages building a TV unit with power, network etc.)
To record/watch TV in another room with their service, I'd need to pay extra. The service just provides HD channels that I can already get, unless I pay more. At the moment I have MythTV handling all the recording of TV shows I want, and Kodi to play them back on different TVs, via CAT6 I spent ages installing into the walls.
Then there's the uncertainty of how nicely their equipment will play with my relatively complicated setup.
I decided, it isn't worth it really for me. I would have to change a load of stuff just to end up with what I already have... But with more limitations.
Anyway, the guy turned up again a few days later, I told him of my decision and away he went.
Since then I have been visited by 2 other employees of this company to try to sell me the service.
It is probably great and convenient if you are not like me and DIY all your home network and media distribution setup...
Also the ISP I'm with is quite small. They are very knowledgeable and friendly and I can get through to someone quickly if i phone. What I use meets my needs, so I prefer to support the smaller company in this case. -
My new ISP asked what devices I would be connecting to the internet... "Well let's see here, computers, web servers, tablets, phones, IoT devices, game consoles, MP3 players, smart TVs, robots..."
-
Last week I wired up my home network (including custom modem and routers) myself, because the stuff my ISP wanted me to use was garbage.
Luckily Germany has "router-freedom" so ISPs are not allowed to force us to use their device to dial into the network.
I did everything myself, because the 'technicians' they kept sending me were just idiots who didn't know anything, considering the highly paid job they are doing. Usually they told me, to get the device from my ISP, because my "Router" (actually a business grade, standalone Modem by Cisco, to feed my Router) didn't even have WiFi ( lol ). Also all Technicians didn't arrive at the agreed date but at some other time. I wasn't able to wait any longer.
So I did it myself.
Consider me something more like a student of theoretical computer science. Not actually supposed to be experienced with hardware stuff.
The ISP is serving me with a DOCSIS 3.0 Network based on the television cable network in my city. For some reason they are providing the internet-access to only one socket in the apartment, which has a rather uncommon "WICLIC" connector. After having trouble getting an adapter for WICLIC to common coaxial F-Connectors (used by every DOCSIS-Modem), I made one myself.
After setting up everything (not that hard, once the connectors fit) my modem told me, that, while I'm perfectly connected to the ISPs internal Network, I still can't access the internet.
So I called the ISP...
After getting ranted at, about that what I'm doing is illegal and only certified employees are allowed to do this and I will break more, than actually do good and that I can't just connect my own "Router" (again I needed to correct her: Modem) I hang up the phone.
Also she accused me of hacking their devices because I'm not supposed to see my IP address... (My Modem told me on its web interface. I didn't even need telnet for that.)
I went to the ISPs head office, told the first desk as many technical terms as I could remember and got forwarded to something like the main technician.
He was a really nice guy. The only sane and qualified person I dealt with at this company. He asked me for my Address and Device Model, I told him my MAC and last internal IP, I had seen and he activated my internet access within a minute.
We talked a while about the stupid connector that ISP is using in the homes and he gifted me some nicer adapters to connect my modem to the wall.
Why do ISPs hate their customers that much?2 -
my ISP set up a coax cable splitter with all 3 ends disconnected, and my internet is running through a parallel pair uninsulated phone line.1
-
I'm thankful I have 2 ISPs in my area so I can at least threaten to switch although one only offers 1/10 the speed of the other.3
-
Just another privacy rant.
I'm sick of people using the excuse "I don't care if Google keeps all my data it's just for adds"
That's true now but if you look at the current trends governments are making to forcing ISP's to store metadata, then it will be the actual data. Eventually they push that to other companises as well.
Now look at Australia for example the police don't need to notify you, let alone get a warrant, to access your metadata. There's also a law in NSW were you can be charged for accociating with a peraon commuting a crime.... Now your in jail for downloading movies years ago that you forgot about but your ISP didn't. I now that's a rather extreme punishment but, Imagine if the government needed some cash so they fine every person that ever downloaded a movie and everyone accociated with person.
Just a crazy theory with poor examplees but just because your data isn't hurting now doesn't mean it won't.
I'm gonna sit in a corner with my tin foil hat now.5 -
This moment when your internet provider kills your VDSL for four months and offers you a 5GB LTE SIM as a replacement...
Not that I burn through hundreds of gigabytes a month or so...
Gosh sometimes I hate ISPs.
Apparently we quit our contract (we didn't) but they just internally fucked up and nobody could tell us what happened. Finally after directly contacting their management we got service back...
But hey an old laptop at the open window relaying all traffic through the barely receivable WiFi of our generous neighbors at least made devRant available :'D -
This is all the DHCP settings I get on this shitty router I got from my ISP. The other settings are more the less the same, which is trash. Don't even get me started on the interface.
The thing doesn't even support *WRT firmwares because it has a Realtek CPU.
Thanks. Guess I'll have to buy a new router now...7 -
I’m a software architect, and my lil brother (he is 19yrs) works fixing computers.
I forgot to pay the internet bill this month and they suspended my signal yesterday, then when try to access any website, we got a ISP page saying that the signal was suspended.
I paid the bill yesterday then they reactivated the signal this morning.
He woke me up saying that the WiFi was working but his computer still stuck on the ISP page.
I said that was cache of the browser and he still boring me saying that was not for the next 2 hours.
I took that computer from him and cleared the cache, and now is working.
My lil brother is a lil dumb.2 -
Fuck mi ISP, really, fuck it.
It left the whole city without internet access for 3 days, and it's service is HORRIBLE.
Not only that, they don't expand the network they have and we are stuck with 5mbps! (3, effectively).
Imagine trying to download a file, while 2 other people are watching YouTube, and 2 other devices are PLAYING NETFLIX. OF COURSE IT WILL STOP WORKING.
I COULDN'T EVEN POST A RANT WITH AN IMAGE (it'd stuck loading for minutes).
I am trying to get a new ISP and this one will be wire to my personal PC, fuck them. However, as a house in the suburbs of a small satellite city, it's hard to get a decent new service.7 -
I fucking hate that ISPs just decide to block certain websites!
Sky for example blocks a bunch of things related to Tor. You can't go to the website, and can't even install stuff like tor browser from AUR, because it has tor in the download url. The connections simply time out.
Yes, I can use a VPN to install Tor, I'll probably have to do that. But fuck!!! Many VPN providers' websites are also blocked.
This seems to be common practive. In my previous flat we had Virgin. They blocked the website of all VPN providers they could find, and even kept me from establishing a connection to some of those providers. In that case I could donwload Tor (surprisingly) and then tried a bunch of clients until one of them worked.
It's fucking pretentious, and I don't think I'll find anything about blocking perfectly legal resources in any of their T&Cs.5 -
Since my ISP doesn't allow port forwards on that port, does anyone want to open their port 445 (if not otherwise occupied by Microsoft-DS) and have netcat reply an empty string or so any request (such as an empty string) sent over TCP (or has anyone already done so)? It would help me out a lot with testing out some networks full port range (since portquiz.net's hoster blocks that port) and would take close to no bandwidth for you.6
-
ISP technicians came over to switch the router. The old one kept disconnecting. This is how they connected the LAN cables.
I'm like "Really...?" O_o4 -
Those little assholes who code the web interfaces for the provider specific router. You also can't replace it with a fritzbox or something similar.
1. Password field only
2. Password field is no password field
3. This red internet thing doesn't tell me what's fucking wrong
4. The "diagnose" says everything is alright with my internet
5. It always complains because not every device in my network supports gigabit yet (there is an old switch). No reason to show everything in fucking red imo.
6. The things it lists I have to check can be and also should be checked by the fucking thing itself. Like wtf. They wanted a lot of money from me for this shitty thing and there is no temperature sensor to check if it's too hot.
7. It just stops working on hot days... Restart manually solves it. Let's restart manually from work when I have to access my files on my NAS from fucking 40 km away..
(see comments for more screenshots)4 -
We were forced to work from home since our region is under "Enhanced Community Quarantine". I brought my work computer at home so I don't need to set up shit on my personal computer. After 2 days, I lost my internet connection and I can't contact my fucking ISP, their office is closed and their customer service doesn't exist. I am now under No Work No Pay policy. Fucking what the fuck.1
-
After working with a coworker on some odd issues, I finally decided to check on the actual ticket he needed assistance with.
From now on, we will optimize our HTML for aesthetic appeal in Chrome's dev tools. display:none is verboten.
Sometimes I wonder if I've had a stroke or if I've died and am in purgatory. -
when you are the one that knows about networks and computer and no one else knows about and it's my fault that it doesn't work and the ISP has a full log of everything that has been done. how about no they don't because it's just router changes not anything that we browsed to on the internet. why don't you go back and do what you do and I do what I do?
-
Who the fuck thought that carieer grade NAT would be a great solution instead of just switching over to IPv6 and have functioning internet?
I don't want to share my IP with some bastard who fails every reCaptcha so that pictures take 5 fucking seconds for me to fade out and in again.
Neither Chrome nor Firefox have a reliable way of forcing IPv6 if possible so Google still thinks I'm an evil bot.
I'm waiting for my PayPal to be frozen because of "suspicious actions from 'my' internet connection".
I don't want to share my IP. I want to be responsible myself for everything that happens to it.
Please replace that old switches that are too slow to manage serious traffic anyway and are just wasting their power for being turned on so that I can have an IP address to myself2 -
No Internet for 4 days because of shitty Metfone ISP. No one should ever support this kind of company.
-
Tldr: no router, almost not work.
Ok I recently moved into a new house, and I signed a contract for an Internet line.
Problem is that the router has been sent at the ISP shop, where I was supposed to get it personally. But guess what? Covid emergency happened two days after, and the shop closed.
So, after spending two days calling customer service of both ISP and Postal office without being able to speak to anybody, I received a Sms saying that the pack was not delivered because the receiver was closed.
After some more unsuccessful calls to the same two entities I managed to find the actual shop's phone number, that was actually thw owner's house (he's working from home). I spoke to him, told the problem, and he changed the router destination to my house.
Today I checked the package status on the postal website and I saw that it seems that they tried every day, at 7:02 am, to deliver the bloody package again at the shop! I truly hope this was a bug on their tracking system. It's weird that the hours were always 7:02am, because the package delivery office opens at 8:30 am, so again I'm praying any existent and non-existent god that that's just a bug. I'm kinda tired of being stuck with my phone hotspot with limited GB and with ISP public routers with about 5Mbps.
I wish I had @netikras skills with router building.4 -
I moved to another ISP today. Now my download speed is 40Mbps and upload 20Mbps. I can browse devRant faster and download porn much faster via IDM.12
-
Not a rant, but maybe someone can help me on this one.
I am currently working on an app that will hopefully go live by the end of the year. Up to now, the webserver and database (for the REST API) is running on an old linux machine. However, as my ISP is not really reliable I want to move this stuff somewhere else. Has someone experience with the varios hosting providers? Currently I am a little bit overwhelmed by all the different solutions out there.
Ideally I would want something that doesn't cost very much now, but also scales with more users.
To make it more concrete, it's basically about neo4j + REST API in Python
Can somehow recommend anything? I really appreciate it, as I am currently a little bit lost on this.
Thanks for reading this!27 -
So here's a random idea: DDoS defence swarm.
Install the daemon on your server, and every time your server gets DDoS'd, all members of the swarm will mobilise to defend you, but the catch is that your server will have to help other members of the swarm too.
The defensive technique in question can be one of many:
1. Automated IP blocking/reporting with a blacklist in distributed form.
2. Other swarm members counterattack and cooperatively DDoS the offending addresses.
3. Flood the ISP with automated emails to force them to pay attention to the problem.
...or a combination of all of the above.
The only issue I can see with this is abuse potential. A clever person can trick the swarm into DDoSing innocents.15 -
Word is spreading that CNN, which is owned by Time Warner, got a reddit users IP from their mods, and with their relation to Time Warner, got his identity.
Then extorted him to apologize or be revealed.
This is huge, and we don't even know its the only time it has happened.
VPNs may not even truly protect you if the ISP can connect the dots over time, with time stamps.
Holy shit, CNN just weaponized ipv41 -
A multistage project that includes: 1, A version of Linux that natively supports every existing windows api call by converting it to work with a standard *nix call. 2, a gui for said distro for every flavor of windows 7 and newer that looks and behaves exactly(minus silly errors) like that windows version. 3, a virus that infects the Microsoft servers as well as every isp to identify every windows user connected to the internet. 4, infect said isps and force push my Linux kernel and gui to every windows effectively erasing every instance of the OS off the face of every connected computer. 5, wipe all Microsoft servers of code related to the operating system, but leaving all their other products.2

Do you need a degree to become a software engineer ?
Now this is a question I’ve seen many people ask. I personally have no degree and I’ve been doing programming for the past 10 years (since I was 18 ). Whatever I learned, I learned from reading and watching tutorials.
So far It wasn’t a problem for me.
What do u guys think and what is your experience is this matter ?9 -
Ugh... Spent the last hour figuring out why my Python script wouldn't send an email. Turns out my computer used a DNS cache that pointed to the wrong name server, but BT (shitty UK ISP) takes fucking forever to update their DNS. And obviously you can't edit the modem's DNS to the Google DNS, because fuck you that's why.
I want Richard's decentralised Internet right now.2 -
Tried to upgrade my internet connection from 25mbps to 75mbps. My ISP sent me a success message through email and sms and can confirm that the speed is legit (upload/download). One day later, no internet connection again. Why the fuck does this shit keep on happening to me. Quarantine sucks.4
-
Virgin media have again told us everything will be sorted in a few hours, with moving the connection.
For their sake they better be right this time as hell hath no fury like a nerd scorn. -
Is there a good technical reason to not allow passwords to contain special characters? My isp does this and I need to know why.10
-
I swear to God if I hear one more person complaining that their wifi doesn't work I'm gonna lose it. Is the difference between the wan connection to your ISP and the connection from your wifi router really that hard to understand?4
-
FUCKING WHY ME!
Lost my dedicated internet access due to a SHITSTAIN of an ISP TELIA decided to introduce itself to my connection A SECOND FUCKING TIME in the past YEAR.
Suddenly lost internet and my firewall couldn't figure out that it was supposed to lose all its fucking connections and renew it's IP adress.
Now im connected to this fucking hipe of shit that is the biggest giver of their customers information to anyone who asks, "Hey man, whats the dude who has this IP?, - sure fam, here you go"
Now i probably have some poor motherfuckers name attached to my current IP.
But could you say that i am now untraceable?4 -
10 Signs You Picked the Wrong ISP !!
10. Their company logo: two tin cans and a length of string.
9. You check out their address, and it's a phone booth containing a Compaq portable and an acoustic coupler.
8. Their chief technical officer lives in a 10-foot-by-7-foot shack in the woods.
7. Their proud boast: "We've been on the Internet since it was CB radio."
6. Their promo materials use the words "information" and "superhighway" in the same sentence.
5. You order an SLIP/PPP connection, e-mail, and 2MB of server space for your personal Web site, and the voice on the other end of the phone asks, "Would you like fries with that?"
4. "As seen in Better Business Bureau special reports."
3. "Access speeds up to 9,600 bps in most areas."
2. They hawk both domain names and Rolexes on street corners.
1. They charge by the word.2 -
My fucking internet is so fucking bad, I get 2K/s download. I would like to know what the fuck is up with that but the isp's website doesn't load. I have no mobile data left and WhatsApp messsnges take minutes to send. For fucks sake this doesn't feel like 21st century germany.
-
my ISP provides me an external IP address. what is the easiest way to hide that external IP and show only my local ip lets say 192.168.1.113 to the outside world?19

50, 100, 200, and most recently my ISP upgraded my download speed to 250mbps. I mean, it's nice, but through all these upgrades, my upload speed has stayed the same dogshit level. Also, what good is additional bandwidth when my monthly usage is capped?

If for some reason you decide to write a shim for a VERY COMMON LIBRARY in your project:
1. DON'T
2. If you decide to ignore (1), at least make sure the SHIM WORKS THE SAME WAY AS THE LIBRARY
Two days of debugging sudden untraceable errors led me to find that a .so wasn't copied correctly during maintenance. fml -
Our ISP, that also offers us Television is smart, very smart... “One option is to provide an anonymous mailbox (eg. Gmail, Hotmail”
Wtf... Gmail != anonymous.
I was about to report a vulnerability I found in their system, with that I could access the whole digibox, recover recordings, copy the on demand things, and watch films.2 -
Me (waiting for a torrent download): this is gonna take a while. [ISP] is being slow again.
GF: Why not just force download it?1 -
Oh, you've found a work around for your browser caching? No problem, here's DNS caching so you can fuck with your code again... and not know what the issue is
~ Sincerely, ISP4 -
So. The internet just cut out at my desk at work. Seems my ISP is down for the entire country. Guess no webdev today.2

;-) this is "find a store" page of an International ISP.
they cannot even handle their google api keys.
how they can handle my data.2 -
So, my internet (business class with a /28 ipv4 block) went out for 15-30min during the snowstorm yesterday.
Due to previous issues i wanted to be sure it was an actual outtage.
1st- login page got a error for unavailable resource.
2nd- their link to more info was this 404
I seriously need to find a more sane solution.2 -

Last year, we got a new DOCSIS modem from our ISP (Puma6-chipset, nuff said, not allowed to replace it with a proper one).
With this replacement modem came a splitter (to split internet signals from TV signals), keep this in mind for later.
It worked alright for a while, but fast forward to last Januari, our internet started acting up because the modem kept randomly rebooting.
So we had 3 maintenance workers come by already.
The first one replaced the wallplug.
The second one replaced the wallplug, saying that the previous maintenance worker did a shit job.
The third one replaced the splitter.
Now, later that evening, we got an email... stating that the costs would be 50 euro...
Ehm... what?
So I went to contact their customer servers and they said "but the splitter is part of the indoor installation. So if this splitter causes a malfunction, the maintenance worker will charge you for the visit".
So these fucking assholes give me a defective splitter and charge us to have it replaced?
They can suck my big black.
Still going on with the dispute now because that is some top level bullshit.
"What if it wasn't the fault of the splitter? Am I gonna get my money back?"1 -
As my first dev job, I took over role of solo programmer maintaining all kinds of custom-made software used by local ISP. It was about 10 years ago.
My first question was where can I find test environment and repo. Apparently there was none and I should learn and develop on production.
My sin was to quickly give up on setting up both test and repo.
My second sin was to continue using the same copy&paste PHTML with register_globals enabled, building over it without attempting to refactor it with templates. I did not use globals in any new code at least.
And I suppose my third sin was that I was playing games when I was done with my tasks. I could have used that time to refactor a bit.
But I think in the end I was absolved from them since I was the only one suffering from this. I stayed with company until it got sold and helped migrate data over (along with myself). -
So a client came today to me saying his domain that I setup some time ago isn't working on a specific russian internet provider, checked everything and then came across a blogpost stating cloudflare IPs are blocked. Researched further and it came out that those fucking retards from the "Federal Tax Service of the Russian" blocked a ton of cloudflare IPs because russian online casinos used them like a year ago.
Then checked another domain he had a problem with and the godaddy IPs were also banned - even more extreme they were banned for like 14 incidents, what the fuck, had to create a new account to get a new ip/nameservers assigned from cloudflare, jesus fucking christ.1 -
Objective: drill a huge hole in the Apple!
Following rant: https://devrant.com/rants/1564522/...
So... Apple music store saves the music in m4a in the app folder, so no other apps can access the music.
It saves it with wird file names, no structure.
I'm noob at basicly anything, and because I'm on vacations I have a cellphone with python basicly.
How can I get the music info from the files, change the files names to their singer/group + song music and latter sort them in folders by artist, then by album4 -
Was slightly panicking at work today when I couldn't reach my server at home anymore, though it might have crashed or something. Turns out my isp changed my fucking IP address! It hasn't done that in years! WHY NOW? Ugh, time to update *all* the dns records I suppose...2
-
I think I hit the maximum limit of Internet conexion with only 2.5 Gb card.
10 Gbits are a bit expensive :)

I think now it's my network what limits connexion, not ISP12 -
When you can login to a website perfectly fine but your client (the person paying you) can't for some reason. Still not sure if it's an isp issue (which I can't solve) or an site issue (which I should be able to solve) .2

Fuck this god damn router. Up to now I was really happy with the router/modem my ISP gave me (UPC Connect Box) but today I set up pi-hole on my raspberry and found out that I can't change my fucking routers DNS settings....11
-
From time to time our internet slows down to 10kbit and latency goes over 1000ms or just cuts out completely and everyone starts screaming at me to fix it, what am I?! The fucking ISP's tech. support?!!! When it goes down it goes down, I can't do anything about it, I keep reminding everyone to keep a copy of their stuff on the NAS so they have access to it when this happens, no one ever listens to me! The only person that uses the NAS is me...
-
ugh. my isp apparently doesn't allow to change DNS in its routers. what a load of bullshit.
Internet has been really flakey lately because of this11 -
I've just checked and see that my FUP was increased from 150GB to 400GB with no extra cost
I'm getting 40 Mbps U/L and I'm paying $10.11/pm
Thanks to my ISP6 -
I have a freaking cool, useless idea, but i dunno if it will actually work
1. Put a usim in the slot
2. Reads information and connects with ISP
3. Turn on mobile data
4. Turn on hotspot
5. And useas a portable wifi
Don't ask me why you don't bring my phone, there are reasons
The os will be no screen only physical buttons with stripped down aosp
Can it work? Or in other words, is it possible?11 -
Just moved flats with a last minute confirmation, sadly the flat in question is not eligible for fibre broadband (high-rise) so had to settle for good old ASDL.
Find a good deal (as all providers are offering the same speeds/technology, all ASDL broadband is provided in the UK through BT landlines) to discover there is a mandatory 2 week waiting period to switch over ownership...
Fine, will wait 10 days for internet (torture except from dev rant on mobile internet, thanks for being text only), box arrives 3 days ago stating not to plug it in until activation date...
Fine I shall wait, today I get impatient and setup the router without connecting it to the landline so I can use the WiFi to connect to my Nas etc, login to WiFi navigate to Nas IP .... Automatic reroute to "login" page "We have detected your router is not connected to the landline, ensure your router is properly connected". Try logging into management site, works, change admin password etc. No setting to disable "self heal" functionality. No setting to setup static routes for my lab router, No setting to switch to modem only mode for when I inevitably buy a new wireless router for when this piece of crap can't handle the internal network traffic...
All this for a pitiful 10/? Mbps average, I want my fibre connection back :'(1 -
Today, the goverment of wkwk land block telegram. Any ISP from wkwk land has been blocking telegram starting today by the government command.
I was so sad about this, lot of community are using telegram. But i'm happy too because my company using telegram 😂 which means no more annoying message on the morning.
*ps: my boss maybe seeing this rant7 -
OMFG. So my isp sucks. Like most isp do now adays. I was watching TV and I was trying to find a specific channel. I look for the channel list online. And oh my fucking God the site is horrible. They have some continuous loading script so I don't have to load all 2500 channels at once. But... It's fucking horrible I got to channel 120 then tries to scroll back up to see if there was a search bar. But guess what... It kept scrolled bg me down. Then I thought maybe if I refresh the page. Nope... It does not send me to the top it sends me to the fucking bottom. Since I can't clear cache on mobile im stuck scrolling up. Why can't they have a site that just fucking works.2

In my country, in almost any company, bank, even major telecommunication companies you'll find that their systems are down at least very frequently.
I'm currently standing in front of a Vodafone booth (they provide mobile communication and are an ISP), their system is down and the operator said to wait an hour.
What's more horrid about this is that these systems are built by fellow software engineers in my country. It sure says a lot about us, unfortunately.4 -
Finally got some time today to cleanup my inbox after three weeks of almost non-stop emergency. Came home from work, sat down in front of my computer and got a call from unknown number. Answered it and it was my ISP telling me that I have virus in my network and was spamming everybody and they cut off my internet. I know they are pretty useless and only kinda semi-IT literate. Took me an hour to convince them restore my connection with blocked port 25. Suricata log of all my traffic shows that nothing in my network communicated to port 25, the only possibilities are managed switch in front of my router I didn't managed to get into yet which should have managing interface on completely different VLAN and their router. Or mess in their system. My guess is their system is a mess. Will see how it works out tommorrow.

OK I'm getting real tired of people posting stuff about Net Neutrality on here, as we all know about it at this point.
The one thing that gets me more angry is that these people get it wrong.
People look at this Net Neutrality thing and instantly think: "Oh, well, I would have to pay more. That's bad."
What it really is is that your ISP can see what you have been searching and would be allowed to send that information to a third party, or change the speed of your internet if you search something their sponsors don't like.
This is what you should be worried about. Your privacy, not your wallet.5 -
Our ISP asked if I was satisfied with their service. I told them that it's okay, but some of our computers don't have enough powerful network card, and they can't use the internet on maximum speed, and they said that they could see it, too. WTF? I knew that the ISP's router is not the most secure thing, but it has a remote mode, which if of course OFF, and they still can see this, and maybe even more. Monitoring your traffic is a thing, but a home network should be private...2

Im going through my router config yestersay and realize that in the security part an ip address is set to permitted.
Iplocation its a company that owns this other company which is my ISP.
Is it normal for an ISP to provide a router with a permitted ip address set by default?
Is this not calles a “porte derobee” (sorry i just know the french terminology,“sneaky doorway”)???4 -
I remember few years back when I had subscribed to this ISP, where few months on subscription worked flawlessly. Then it was all downwards from there. Customer care never answered. Charged for bloddy whole month whilst the working was just for 2 weeks. People subscribing to this ISP had a facebook group named ISP Victim. Was forced to change my ISP.
Now, few days back they put up a stall in an IT exhibition. I went up and signed in for their service. Now they call me for setting up their network, either i tell them am not available or dont answer at all. I do the same to them what they did to me. That utmost pleasure HAHA. I shared this idea in the facebook group and people are starting to do the same.
I feel like a con artist now. -
So got first invoice for Internet in my new flat. Via e-mail with winmail.dat attached. WTF? Send them reply that their mailing system is broken. They replied that *I* probably have wrongly setup *Outlook* and sent me instructions how to configure my Outlook. Thank you, my mutt us fine and your instructions wouldn't work. Sent them another reply that I'm happy that they know the answer and that they should apply it to their setup as my mail setup is correct. Got e-mail with pdf. No wonder those guys don't suppprt IPv6 nor DNSSEC if they have troubles using plain e-mail. Maybe I should check whether they have DKIM or SPF and do some little evil...1

I swear I will commit a hate crime if my ISP keeps messing up the order
I expected to have a connection to 1st November to maybe the 5th
I still haven't gotten shit -
My new ISP's FTTH router is the most advanced I've ever had at home, but it doesn't allow changing the channels for different SSIDs.
I call them and they tell me the current firmware doesn't have the option because the connection is in beta test.
Great, now I can't have a guest SSID without channel overcrowding. -
So, my internet provider have been fucking me up in big time... I have been trying to upload a video file of just 36mb. However, it keeps failing. I called my ISP (which I subscribed to an unlimited internet plan... unlimited my ass). The download and upload speed is damn too slow...
-
After doubting Deepin OS for 4 days and slangs to Windows, it turns out, ISP is blocking the port 22, which is why I was not able to communicate to my instance through SSH.
One of the major Cellular company and Fastest 4G in the whole country, 'Idea', is blocking the vital port 22. The same company promoted it's Internet service through chain of adv. calling it's Cellular Internet network, "Idea Internet Network (IIN)". Only to make it sound like IIT, IIMs ( elite indian colleges). Check on YouTube, IIN, if available3 -
Worst support experience so far: German ISP sent their cheap default router which I opted for, hoping that I didn't need to rent a costly FitzBox. Provider activates the connection, everything fine, but slow and unstable on my Linux laptop only. Try using their website, their support chat etc. as they made it very hard to even open a support ticket. I gather all the information, ping, traceroute, netstat, logfiles, router settings, broadband measurement etc. and finally manage to open a support ticket of my issue adn they say they will send an engineer to my place in about 4 days. I stay at home that day and wait for the whole day, nothing happens!
I get back to them, even get a phone call after waiting about 1h in the waiting queue, only to listen to someone tell me that the appointment had been cancelled as the ticket had already been closed. WTF! They said they measured my connection and could not reproduce any error. Did not even mention my lengthy log files etc. It took my own research and another hint that there is an incompatibility with that specific router and some specific devices so I should really replace their cheap router with a FritzBox device. What they also did not tell, that you dont need to rent their branded FritzBox, there are cheap second hand models from another ISP that you can reconfigure by simply chosing another ISP in a dropdown list that contains every popular German ISP. But why are they popular? You can only choose between the different bad ones, that's why they don't seem to make an effort.2 -
What are the thoughts of privacy conscious people about quantum computers? As far as I understand current TLS version encryption method is vulnerable to quantum computers, thus if your ISP or other agencies store all your traffic data right now, they'll be able to decrypt it after gaining access to quantum computers.
One way to secure your privacy would be to use your own VPN that uses encryption method that is quantum-resistant, but again the VPN would be using TLS to connect to the Internet.6 -
Fucking ISP... Why even bother informing their customers that the internet will be down while there is planned electricity outage on the other side of the city. Cunts.
-
Soo I am currently using Kali to have some fun.
While checking out MITMf I saw you can inject own JS scripts. I immediately begun to work on a "Marcel Davis Injectoin" Troll!
(FYI Marcel Davis is an German meme because he worked for an ISP as "The Service Guy")
My Script changes backgrounds, plays a Meme Song and puts a canvas in front of every input so you can't just click anything.
More features will come! :D stay tuned6 -
Fuck the ISP and the incompetent retarded developers in the government!
The retarded ISP is injecting malware ads on all web pages which means if you access a non HTTPS site, you're gonna get fucked.
And the retarded government site still do not have HTTPS version for the websites!
The biggest irony is that this particular government site is for developers to register for courses ( paid ) about latest technologies.1 -
Well, I love react-native and how easy to build mobile app with it. but damn look at these folder sizes jeez1

Why is my ISP so garbage??? Since 2 weeks I have 200kb/s speed, or complete internet loss for hours. Wtf am I even paying for huh? How do these problems even occur? Are your servers to shit to handle all traffic ? Get more then or I am coming over and I'll shove these servers up your Ass! I can't live without Internet okay?? Fuckingoddamnit.3

I had to contact my ISP's tech support because I suddenly lost my Internet connection. I explained to the guy who answered that my router was working fine, and that my devices could connect to my WiFi network, but they didn't have Internet access.
He was so confused because he didn't understand that WiFi and the Internet are not the same thing. He then made me reboot my router and reset my configuration (like I hadn't done that before) and eventually ran out of ideas and scheduled a technician to visit my house next week. What a moron -
So my future isp Jio fiber is rumoured to be using DPI. Main proof comes when a executive said "It’s called Deep Packet Inspection, and what you can do with the analytics of that is mind-boggling," in a new article. https://reuters.com/article/...
Should I be afraid or am I just being paranoid. Also should I just switch to another isp altogether if they are using DPI.
Also mini rant :- They make it harder to use your own router by not allowing bridge mode on their router and custom onts dont seem to work. The best option is to connect lan port of their router to the wan port of your router and disable wifi on their router3 -
I don't know if many rememeber me but at one point this year I had to turn UDP basically into tcp, handshake, packet ordering, resend on failed, ACK response, and 4k bit aes encryption. Fucking done, it works, signed the last version and pushed to client, client loved it, just what he wanted, paid out contract then turned around and asked me to setup his server for one day with no further expectations and an extra 250, said sure don't mind, as I am setting shit up I decided to test if his business isp really blocks tcp, guess what? NOPE IT WORKS JUSY FUXKIJG FINE AND I COILD HAVE KUST RIPPED A PREMADE CORE AND GOT PAID AND SET IT UP AND HE WOULD NEVER know, but maybe theirs some weird circumstances that require the core to be made only with udp, so after I was done I asked why only udp if his line allowed tcp? Requirements maybe? NOPE HE JUST DOSENT UNDERSTAND TCP FUUUUUUUQQQQHDJDIOAJEJDICJDNXIKZMZJDJCU2

Shitstained ISP hell, these fuckers are within 5 minutes distance from my home, but I have to spend my days without real internet again3

rant && what do you think?
so one of our ISP (Orange Slovakia) had troubles with service for like two days. Their DNS servers translated domains to IPs reaaally slow or not at all. So when i saw the dns error in chrome (yes i use chrome and not quantum) I changed my dns to google dns and ignored it.
Two days later when the service was back up and running, this ISP went to the local media and made a statement "we had a DDOS attack, no user data were harmed, blabla" that was when my BS radar went bananas... so somebody DDOSd your DNS server ... for two fucking days straight... this is probably a lie or they have really noob engineers (or both).
I'm not an expert on network services or routing, or servers but, how about turning off this server, IP and setting up a backup on a different IP ? Possibly anyone here with experience how to handle DDOS? Whats the chance of this happening? i'm really curious23 -
Don't you guys love it when your ISP suddenly decides to change your public IP? The one you were using for months?
I know we're technically not getting a static address guarantee (that is for some reason something only companies can buy), but a heads up would be nice...
I spent like an hour debugging why my VPN suddenly couldn't connect...8 -
In nearby county to mine, coder was arrested for 3 months for nickname matching leaked terrorist nickname "grower" by coincidence. His coding education was enough reason for arrest.
All hdd/ssd/usb/mobile devices were confiscated for thorough analysis right from the morning by police.
Feeding my security paranoia. Encrypting fully filesystem(LUKS) and my internet traffic (self raised open vpn), wiping fully usbs. I ll be protected from my ISP recording my traffic, and from unauthorised access to my data.6 -
Alright boys.. calling in my networking friends for help..
Recently switched my ISP and got a fibre optic installed (100Mbps).
Thr ISP provided a new TP-Link router which supports 5GHz as well as 2.4GHz.
Some of my devices support 5GHz and connect to that network which works flawlessly.
However, my phone does not support 5GHz and hence, have to connect on 2.4GHz.
Somehow, the main router as well as the access point, are not functioning well for 2.4GHz. Whenever the connection is established, it would work fine for a minute or two before the networks starts disconnecting.
Restart the device Wi-Fi and it works for few moments and the cycle repeats.
I am not sure of what is causing this issue.
For the records, the access point is an old D-Link router. Why I mention this? Because funnily whenever the access point cable is plugged into the main router and I login to the router, the system logs me into the access point router (D-Link instead of TP-Link).
Can someone please help me resolve this issue?
Fun fact: The D-Link was a giveaway by one of my dR friends @Bigus-Dickus5 -
Who else knows and FUCKING HATES CITRIX? This dump piece of VM software runs like shit in our company, crashes often and destroys my ours of work daily!
I need this frecking piece of shit to plan new Glasfiber connections to customers... Not wondering everyone hates my company because we can't fucking work!1 -
In today's episode of "Am I paranoid already?" - Caching Bind resolver forwarding queries to a DoH client connecting to Cloudflare
A fun little thing to configure, and now, anytime I am on my VPN, all my DNS traffic should be completely untrackable.
Does that make me paranoid? Maybe a little... But, the knowledge that noone - not even my ISP, can see what I am doing on the internet, is kinda... Heartarming.
Now, all that's left, is for eSNI to roll out and get implemented by all major web browsers, and most snooping will be completely done for...4 -
Goddammit have tried for several days to get a vpn up and running so we can have a mac as build server.
I have opened the ports on the router, tried l2tp and openvpn, everything works on the local network.
However accessing my static ip from my ISP, it just gives me weird errors from the devices no information. Goddammit what to do....5 -
Today I called my ISP and shouted what the hell is your wireless service, I cannot even open youtube. Then they asked from what time you had the issue we are not able to see any data.
All of a sudden I saw I was disconnected from dongle and got connected to Wifi automatically (So i was on wifi). I feel ashamed then all of a sudden I scolded them and told yes because of your shitty service am not able to use!! :)24 -
WINDOWS SUCKS!
Since yesterday I'm cursing my ISP for shitty internet speed and called him few times for the same.
As it turns out windows was updating in the background sucking my whole bandwidth!
It took me a day to download a 1 Gb file1 -
Today my ping caught me off-guard once again, but I will stop this madness for all eternity! Writing the ultimate ping tool, so I never have to fear high ping ever again.. well I cannot fix my f*cking internet provider, but my ping tool can warn me, even if it detects only the slightest inconsistency!
But first I have to figure out why my tool doesn't output the ping... -
An idea on how to build a server based on gpu? Yeah like the movie? We need to build the whole machine it would be impossible to swap a CPU by a GPU in the actual architecture.. just a thought.. however the problem I would have for making a home server is not even the hardware or the electricity bill, but my unstable internet connection..3

Stupid isp - no internet for more than 13h now. This happens way too often (once or twice a month for a whole day) I’m trying to keep calm and don’t explode in fuckery language but there are people who can’t run their business or really relying on working internet connection. (Unitymedia - stay aware of these fcktards) Wuuusaaa... but I found out that the chrome trex got a nice little party hat.1

So, I just got a new laptop and its a pretty sweet machine and I wanted to get coding in android studio but I can't download the SDK because my ISP has a FUP limit of 2 gigs.Fuck internet in India.1

For some reason github is not working on my wifi.
First thought it was down.
But then found it's running from my phone data.
Tried calling isp. They say it's working .
Anyone here who can help.... ?
Currently running from my mobile data but it's too slow..... 😢9 -
O great devs that know grep I have a log that I took from a local company's router that got DOSsed yesterday (they sell very nice sandwiches) and I wanted to know how I can take only the IP's from the log so that I can take action against the users (contacting the abuse if the ISP)10

Been waiting for pur internet to get set up for a while now. We've finallu beem connected. Initially we thought we'd be stuck on a ADSL2+ connection with a max possible download speed of 20Mbps. Then we found out we could get cable through a different ISP, so we went with that. We were expecting a decent downloas but not this... this is just great!11
-
Cable/Internet outage. Tried to contact ISP (Mediacom, who are awful)... Reported outage over an hour ago, but no update.
So, I figure it's time to call then...
In support app, selected "Call someone now." Selected sevices. Drop-down for "Tap down arrow for list"... contains the single placeholder "Tap down arrow for list". Plus, of course, you cannot submit the form without making a selection from the list.
Fuck your fucking support app right in the java-hole, Mediacom.
I did not need any more reasons to hate you - you are already at the top of my list, with no one else remotely close behind.3 -
I was trying to set up my own "cloud" for iot experiments. I planned to use Intel Edison with mqtt broker (using mosca) and a node js app for providing API for mobiles and browser. And also to do other book keeping.
I spent the half day trying figure how to expose these servers to internet.
I configured ddns in noip.com and ddns settings configured to it in my router.
Port forwarded to the local server services I needed.
And then tested. Worked perfectly on any device in my router connected network. Tested on mobile network. Bam! It fucking doesn't work.
Then connected another router.
Double port forwarded. Again worked perfectly on router network. And failed on mobile.
Tested if ddns is right. Did nslookup it was fine as fuck.
Then disabled port forwarding. Did dmz. Nope. Nadda. No luck.
Then scratched my head so hard that I lost more already losing hairs.
Then remembered about router hardware firewall. Disabled it.
Tested
And there it didn't work.
My dreams shattered like a fucking deer hit by car on highway.
Didn't work.
Then I see the IP pointing to my router in nslookup. Its 172.20.xx.xx. Its a fucking private IP.
My Asshole ISP is running another private network behind firewall. Which I fucking can't port forward
Now I think how much of a noob and idiot I am. Fuck this shit. Fuck all of these shit.
I am going for SaaS option for mqtt broker.
(Or help me?)
Once again.
Asshole ISP.
Fuck your firewall.
(PS: I had test the next day. FML)2 -
You now you work at a good job when you download a ISO image of DVD size and the speed max is the server on the other end where you are downloading from.

Just had the worst time ever. Tried to register to a web portal of my ISP. Couldn't even get to the dashboard. It randomly redirects back to login page. Doesn't save info. Asks for info already given in the profile when I try to add my connection and then says info doesn't match with what's in the profile.. WTF!!! I just copy pasted it from the profiles info page. :/ just gave up after trying for the 50th time. I just can't understand how someone could design something with this level of shitty user experiance.
I would just like to say fuck you to the assholes who designed that worthless portal. :/ -
When will the ISP finally upgrade to FTTH? Even though I live near a fairly large city, I have literally 900kbps2
-
How in heart is possible to work with a router that randomly shutdowns itself around 3/4 times a day without any reason. Leaving me without internet for 10-15 minutes. I called my ISP and they said that they don't see any problem and they will not send any replacement. I can instead fix an appointment with their technician to have a look at the issue, but of couse, I'm paying for him.
How about no? I'm going to buy a proper modem/router next month, this shit router they give you have 1/100 of the proper configurations options you need.2 -
So Google WiFi works great for the first week, now its taken a dump and barely getting any internet speed at all (if at all). I know its not my ISP considering that my desktop is getting 10 down1

Im working 6days, than I'm free 4 days. So 2-3 days from those 4, I would like to do some internship, traineeship or call whatever you want, at isp, data center or enterprise, to kick some real life network engineer experience. Basically I have 0 real life experience even I'm preparing to ccnp. Guys, I can't even find unpaid internship... When they hear that I have finished bachelor like 6 years ago, they just don't want to hear from me. I am deeply disappointed. Sometimes I feel that I won't have an it support job even with ccie... I mean I already feel more skilled than the complete IT crowd at the company where I'm working but no one cares. If you have some advice like where to go, please share with me...1

So, it has been 36 hours and my ISP still hasn't figured out why in the flying fuck I have no internet. I'm now sure that everyone who works in their technical department is incompetent.3

I'm writing a minor productivity app which consumes and modifies a vbscript file on a network drive which apparently gets included in other productivity tools to drive the business, as well as updates the relevant DNS entry the field is associated with, and because I care about making the world a better place now writes the data out to what I hope becomes the authoritative source for said data which eventually replaces these who-the-knows-why-they-are-there network drive files and snippets.
The tool removes the need for an ISP tech in the field to make TWO phone calls when they update network equipment. One for the vbscript tweak, one for the DNS update.
Oh, did I mention that some PHP app under a L1 helpdesk guy's desk that the company has made absolutely necessary for their business (and I subsequently moved to a god damn server) consumes the vbscript file and parses it into something PHP can understand?
You can't make this shit up.
The only saving grace is that I have my team rewriting all of this ridiculous shit in Haskell. Type safety and long term refatorability will keep us sane. -
more often than not i receive devrant notifications only with wifi connection but not with mobile data despite a good connection. is this a setting i missed or just an odd behavior by my isp or something else?3

I am not sure what's wrong but from this evening I can only access Google's sites + some other site using my WiFi but can't access devRant + other tons of site
Tried to reset the router, tried changing the DNS addresses, tried using VPN but nothing worked2 -
Help please!
Despite having good speed, any website/app on my phone (other than Google, Youtube, Gmail, Instagram etc..) are either not opening or loading very slow.
Due to this I can't get my work done because I use my phone's internet to work on laptop.
Can't find any solution online because most people are giving solution for desktop and wifi router.
This happened after I changed my ISP. Previous ISP was working fine and now I'm regretting it.5 -
Goddamnit ISP's. Yesterday I got transferred to another ISP because of a merger and till this moment I don't have internet, TV or phone (not that I was using the phone line but I am paying for it) and after being on hold for over an hour this morning with customer service I got told it can take them till fuckin monday to get the connection going again.
I'll repeat FUCKIN ISP'S!!!!!
