Since apparently lots of you are into Linux, I would like some advice.

I'm wanting to install a distro to use as my main OS, but there is just too much choice.

I'm coming from Windows 10 so I read that KDE is a good choice for a desktop environment and the Plasma version looks pretty good.

Yesterday I've tried Deepin OS but I'm not a huge fan, looks good but not enough content / customization.

So right now I'm hesitating between Manjaro (with KDE) and Elementary OS.

Would you recommend any of these, and why ?

If you want freedom combined with stability - Trisquel is your choice.

I fucking hate picking a linux distro, I always end up regretting my choice nonetheless because my fucking laptop is so old anything is too irritating for it to run and every distro has some mild annoyances that I fixate on them and cannot keep my stupid miserable brain to just let it go

Hey Linux users. Right now I have a 2011 MacBook pro the new MacBooks you are unable to take apart so I will not buy another one. So if you had a choice of any laptop what would you choose? I do not game I am a web developer and play around with app development and I build ruby CLI's. Any suggestions on what PC? Also I'm looking at arch Linux for distro what do you guys think?

I see several post about linux, that made me remember the worst day of learning about linux installation many years ago.

I actually just want to know about linux, then suddenly install it without any knowledge about formatting harddisk and something like that.

And the first choice which come up is "install on entire harddisk" i think its like on windows installer and i go through next and next.

Then i got my whole data erased after that. At that time i feel regret.wanna burn my linux cd installer.

But the thirst for trying new is so high.its like wanna pay for the mistake.

After that i like to install many linux distro to choose which one suit my need.

I love linux!!

That moment when you settle with a Linux distro and DE that suits your needs perfectly (Ubuntu GNOME with Albert launcher and a couple of extensions) and someone starts acting like their choice is better because it resembles Windows.

Student 18/M looking for reliable partner.
I like tinkering, I like the command line and I find i3 convenient, but I also often just need to get things done, I want my os to be rock solid, and I would prefer debian based because I need to run lesser known/supported software occasionally.

i'll make an important choice so i have to choose a distro between those too:

1.Kubuntu
2.Linux Mint

I have Manjaro KDE on my Acer Predator Helios 300 (dual boot with W10, unfortunately, because games/some programs needed).
I want to try another distro.

Is Fedora a good choice ? Is there any potential issue or things I should look out for ?

Do you know a good distro that runs fine on that hardware ? I'm just curious here.

Any tip before I backup my home ?

I put the / on my SSD and the /home on my HDD. Any reason why I shouldn't keep it that way ?

Hey pals, I'm thinking about buying a new laptop.
I will run a linux-distro on it and use it mostly for dev-stuff,video-streaming,etc..
I'm currently eyeballing a Lenovo Campus Thinkpad T490.
With i7 (4x up to 4.6GHz, 8 threads), 16GB ram.

Would it be a good choice or would you recommended something else?

fellow ranters, i need your advice!

i'm searching for an ultra portable laptop:
- 11" screen
- full HD resolution

it will run Linux (Kali or other debian based distro) and i need that just to do some work while i'm on the go. I don't need huge performance, so the budget is quite limited (~300 EUR / 350 USD).

is the Thinkpad x220/x230 still the best choice (even if the screen resolution is not full HD)? any other suggestion?

So can you guys name one Linux distro that doesn't come preloaded with bloat, i mean Linux is better than windows since you have control, but i don't want to have fire fox out of the box i don't want fkin libre office can't we have a distro like arch but we don't have to go through the lengthy installation process. Maybe throw in the drivers and a bare bone DE of choice and that's it
