Just switched to an iPhone after being on Android since Gingerbread. First thing I've done is lock down iCloud almost entirely and use Google's apps. Things are swell.9
Ice cream sandwich
So my wife bought a really old android tablet (it's on gingerbread lol) so I've decided to bring it up to android pie, yes that means building a custom ROM, from scratch, for a 7 year old device. I will be documenting my progress and if I fail then at least it will be published research as the memory optimization in android pie is so much smoother now it should be good. If it fails I shall try to build android go to the device.
It's still got a 1.5ghz processor and 1gb of ram which should be fine so here's hoping.23
This UI when I click on an Amazon link on my Android 7.1.2. "Welcome back to Android Gingerbread !"2
I hate when Apple news websites do articles on Android. 99% of the time it's pure bullshit coming from someone whose last experience with Android was Gingerbread, if any. 9to5mac is a really bad offender, but so feel TheVerge is extra shitty with Android articles. For someone who claims to do news on everything impartially, they warp their sights towards Apple way too much.
That obviously means that costumers will get scared of leaving Apple for what might be a better experience for their use case. I just absolutely hate this kind of partial journalism.
TL;DR fuck 9to5mac and The Verge for scaring people off using Android with misinformation10
I really miss the android Gingerbread of my Samsung galaxy Y phone.
I still wish to have a plain and simple device for myself.
