Search - "google play"
Google is full of assholes!
Just paid $25 dollars to list my app on google play store. Within 15 minutes of submitting the app, it got de-listed.
Who am I impersonating?
The logo is impersonating the logo shown on MY OWN website!!!
How dafuq can you impersonate your own intellectual property?????
Contacted them back using their form. Didn't even call them "cunts". Asked to have it reviewed.
After waiting 7 business days, started sending them 1 email a day. On day 11 I sent 100 identical email asking them to review it.
Today (day 12), they cleared the app. I got this reply back.
"We found that your app was not in violation of our policies"
I was in school and I got bored. I opened two command prompts and did what any scammer would do.
I went to the root of the drive and did a tree. The other window is pinging google infinitely.
After a few seconds, I hear a kid say "Are you hacking the pentagon?". That guy also asked me to hack the Google Play Store. He shall forever think I'm a hacker.33
Few months ago I made an app for my buddy. Because it was simple soundboard app (it literally took me 15 minutes) I haven’t took any money. He said it’s for personal use only...
So he released it under his name on Google Play Store... And now he asks me to add advertisements... For free... When I asked him what can I get from it, he said “you can add your name to Credits”
That’s how you loose trust and buddies!27
That moment when someone uninstalls your app but leaves a 5 star rating.
T... Thank you..?20
Upload App to Google Play:
- Build APK file in Unity
- Pay $25 = €20 one-time fee
- Fill in the details
- Upload for review
Upload app to App Store:
- Pay $99 = €99 yearly fee
- Borrow someone's MacBook because buying one just for development is not worth it.
- Install Unity on that Mac
- Failed to install Xcode because it doesn't have the latest OS version
- Adds app to Itunes Connect and find out the name is already in use (no problem on Google Play)
- Asks friend to look for the same app name --> not found
- Create certificates for both iOS development and deployment
- Goes to another friend for their mac and add their iPhone's UDID (You need a mac for that)
- Install Unity and Xcode
- Open project I saved on a USB drive
- Build to iOS and gets stuck at some point --> couldn't fix
- devrant.com because I once more need a mac
Apple please let me just export a game without the need of a $1000 overpriced machine.37
The devRant Podcast is finally here!! We're happy to announce the release of episode #0 - featuring Andy Hunt (known for The Pragmatic Programmer, rubber duck debugging, DRY, and much more). We can't thank Andy enough for agreeing to be on our first podcast episode and it was so enjoyable to interview him.
We also want to give a huge thanks to our two devRant users who helped us out and came on to talk about their rants - @silhoutte and @sway. We also greatly appreciate all of the questions that were submitted by community members. We really wanted to ask all of them since there were a lot of good ones, but we had to narrow it down a little as Andy was already kind enough to go over the 20 minutes we had originally asked for. This episode features questions from @casanovanoir, @fatlard1993, and @3K-Vengeance.
You can get all the links to the podcast here: https://devrant.io/podcasts/... (available on iTunes, Google Play, and we've provided the raw mp3).
If you'd like to see it on any other platforms in the future, please let us know. And like always, feedback is appreciated since we're new to this and still learning our way when it comes to podcasting. If you enjoy the show, please rate it to help us out :)
Devs, if you're developing an app that's targeted to the country Georgia, you better make absolutely sure it doesn't have in-app purchases. For some reason, Google Play Store blocks those apps for Georgia. Even the free apps.11
Tech support to my friend:
Friend: Root my phone!
Friend: play store is not working
Me: why do u want to root for that?
Friend: is there any other option?
Me: give me ur phone
After 20 sec ...
Me: Sign in to ur Google account 😐😐4
Android phone: $50.
Google Play Dev License: $25, lifetime.
UWP Dev License: $20, lifetime.
Apple Dev License: $99, ONE FREAKING YEAR.
iPhone: Too expensive.
Mac: Many more monies.
SCREW YOU, APPLE!! I'm not rich!!! Go sit on a CACTUS and ROTATE!! SLOWLY.28
So I visited my aunt's house a few days back.
They heard I write code (read: Google and copy-paste from Stack Overflow), and wanted me to help repair their computers.
Saw my cousin playing Battlefield 4 at sub-20 fps with a GTX 750 Ti on the lowest settings. His fucking CPU fan was bust, and judging by the amount of dust in his system, I literally thought he was cramming dust in there on purpose.
After a heavy dusting, another stick of RAM (4GB -> 12GB), a new heatsink (CoolerMaster T400i), and a fresh copy of Windows 10 (along with Office, etc.), he could play games at 60+ fps again.
What do I get? Not even a fucking thank you. Just a "you done yet? I want to play video games."
I mean... Gee. Your cousin flew all the way to a new continent, spent his precious vacation time helping you out, and all he gets is a cold-ass shoulder.
Even my fucking ex gave me more than that.18
When some moron decides to give your free (and ad free) app a 1 star rating because it does exactly what it is supposed to do, but doesn't do what the reviewer wanted it to.
How considerate of these arse holes to ruin an apps reputation because they are moronic.
I really wish that you could file claims for the reviews to be removed for defamation.19
The second episode of The devRant Podcast is here! We're happy to announce the release of episode #1 - featuring David Heinemeier Hansson (DHH) (known for creating Ruby on Rails, Basecamp, his book Rework, and much more). It was a thrill getting to interview David and we think everyone will really enjoy!
We also want to give a huge thanks to our two devRant users who helped us out and came on to talk about their rants - @peaam and @switchstep. We also greatly appreciate all of the questions that were submitted by community members. We really wanted to ask all of them since there were a lot of good ones, but unfortunately we ran out of time with DHH and we didn't get to ask any :/ We're going to make sure we better allocate time in the future.
You can get all the links to the podcast here: https://devrant.io/podcasts/... (available on iTunes, Google Play, YouTube, Soundcloud, Stitcher, and we've provided the raw mp3 in various bitrates).
If you'd like to see it on any other platforms in the future, please let us know. And like always, feedback is appreciated since we're new to this and still learning our way when it comes to podcasting. If you enjoy the show, please rate it to help us out :)
Hey everyone - I just wanted to update our Android users on the push notification crash that has been occurring.
The good news is the issue should be fixed in the update I just pushed out (should be available in the Google Play Store within a few hours). We apologize for the crashes and thank everyone for their patience.
I'm still looking in to what actually happened here. Our GCM library hasn't been updated in a while and all of a sudden a specific case started failing. I'll continue to look in to how that seemingly happened with no changes in the app. Some other users of the library started experiencing the same issue.25
Me: *listening to some random semi-obscure track on spotify, liking it, add it to playlist*
Come home, girlfriend playing the same track. "Yeah I've had that in my playlist for two weeks now". Our accounts are not linked in any way, and I only use Spotify on a PC at work, while my girlfriend only uses it at home.
It might just be coincidence, or us having similar tastes.
But the issue is that it's getting more and more difficult to know whether me and my girl are spiritually linked unique snowflake soulmates who are so perfectly in sync with each other, or whether an algorithm suggestively linked us both that song based on scraped location and behavior data.
And whether it matters. Maybe it matters. I don't know yet.
In twenty years maybe humans will be unsure whether it was a wonderful coincidence bordering on cosmic fate that you ran into your new love, or whether Google purposefully drove you towards the same lunch cafe at a specific time because it calculated that she was the perfect candidate to strengthen your susceptibility to advertisements over the coming decade.
Malicious AI will not come into lives bearing guns.
It will not instantly take all of our jobs and enslave us.
It will just know you better than you know yourself, it will know everyone around you better than you know them, and it will play incredible mind games. It will not be designed with malicious intent, just perfectly execute on top of the malicious systems we already have, and even arise as an emergent property within new systems.
It will rarely be clearly visible, but you will increasingly say to yourself: "That's odd, I was just thinking about that". It will detect depression from a smile, physical attraction from a glance, reliability from patterns in your voice and illness from the bloodflow in your cheeks.
It will not just make our cars autonomous, it will make our lives autonomous. It will protect us, decide for us, keep revenues and human satisfaction in a "balanced maximized" state, it will make everything feel easy, slightly abuse us, and when one of us suddenly crashes at 140 mph into depression, debt or addiction it will prove impossible to know whether the humans or the algorithms were at fault.
I'm incredibly afraid and excited about the coming 10 years.13
Rashly say to a web developer colleague that you'd quite like to learn to code. Feel too awkward to decline the subsequent invitation. Meet for coffee, discuss basics. Understand nothing. Go home and Google extensively. Start trying code out at home. Cry. Swear. Make a thing that does a thing. Try to make another thing. Fail. Give up. Try again. Start an online tutorial. Work through said online tutorial. Start contributing on Github. Discuss Laravel. Play with Laravel. Set out your own Laravel project. Get engaged to the colleague who said they'd teach you. Get sent a technical test. Stare at the test blankly for days on end. Have an idea. Try to implement the idea. Cry some more, swear some more. Enjoy it. Get hooked. Hate it. Enjoy it. Finish it. Stare at the screen in amazement and wonder what has gone wrong because you are getting the result you were expecting. Rinse, repeat.5
Ah, let me open my half baked personal Android project. Maybe I'll finish it this time.
*opens Android studio*
"You have shitloads of updates. Please download and restart now"
Ok, makes sense. I haven't opened it for a month.
*runs the app*
"CoolApp has crashed"
What the fuck? It was all working before. WTF happened.
*half an hour of online research*
The google play service version is somehow fucked up. So let's fix that.
Yay! Let me login right away!
*Login via google doesn't work*
I didn't even touched the bloody code.
*another half an hour of research. Nothing works*
Fuck this shit.10
Just because Facebook/Google/Apple are doing something, it doesn't mean it's the future of technology.
No, we're not going to throw out large parts our perfectly good tech stack just because you liked their latest blog post.
If you wanted to always play "follow the shiny thing", you should have become a jeweller. Please learn what independent thought is and how to apply it, the results might surprise you!9
Oh excuse me, can you not read the news article? You might wanna install our app from the google play store.
Well, I could read the article just fine, if you wouldn't cover the whole screen with that pop up.5
Once browsing through Google play store under what's new area of an app i found this:
*Added bugs to fix later6
I just published my very first Android app to the Google Play store and I'm super pumped about it!17
FUCK THE GOOGLE PLAY REVIEW TEAM.
FUCK THEIR BOT GENERATED EMAILS.
FUCK THEIR DEVELOPER SUPPORT.
I am trying to launch a fucking action game. There will be fucking guns and muzzle flashes shown in the screenshots. Stop fucking rejecting the app. There is no blood in the icon or screenshots. Stop sending me bot generated emails and tell me what content is being flagged.
A little information on the whole scenario: My game was rejected so immediately I contacted the support as to what was the issue. The guy told me 2 screenshots were flagged because they had the muzzle flashes and damage indicator (call of duty type which tells the direction from where the bullets are coming from). So I removed the screenshots and still the game was rejected. FUCK THESE ASSHOLES. SAME GOES FOR APPLE.11
Soon I am going to de-google my phone. As much as I can that is.
This is what I am going to use:
- microG instead of Google Services (read more about it here: https://microg.org/)
- F-Droid for FOSS apps and Yalp Store for downloading Play Store apks
- LineageOS as my ROM
- Signal for messaging and Silence for SMS messaging (even though I rarely send SMS)
- NewPipe for watching YouTube videos
-Tutanota as my email service
- Firefox with a bunch of add-ons (uBlock, uMatrix, Cookie Autodelete, privacy badger etc...)
- duckduckgo as my search engine
- And if I could afford a VPN I would go for MullVad
If there's something more you would like to suggest feel free to do so.41
Trend of the day:
1. Facebook is really compromising user privacy, will delete my account!
2. Post about deleting Fb account to twitter, instagram, etc
3. "Ok google, what is privacy?"
4. Find a random app in play store and allow access regardless20
Look I understand online privacy is a concern and we should really be very much aware about what data we are giving to whom. But when does it turn from being aware to just being paranoid and a maniac about it.? I mean okay, I know facebook has access to your data including your whatsapp chat (presumably), google listens to your conversations and snoops on your mail and shit, amazon advertises that you must have their spy system (read alexa) install in your homes and numerous other cases. But in the end it really boils down to "everyone wants your data but who do you trust your data with?"
For me, facebook and the so-called social media sites are a strict no-no but I use whatsapp as my primary chating application. I like to use google for my searches because yaa it gives me more accurate search results as compared to ddg because it has my search history. I use gmail as my primary as well as work email because it is convinient and an adv here and there doesnt bother me. Their spam filters, the easy accessibility options, the storage they offer everything is much more convinient for me. I use linux for my work related stuff (obviously) but I play my games on windows. Alexa and such type of products are again a big no-no for me but I regularly shop from amazon and unless I am searching for some weird ass shit (which if you want to, do it in some incognito mode) I am fine with coming across some advs about things I searched for. Sometimes it reminds me of things I need to buy which I might have put off and later on forgot. I have an amazon prime account because prime video has some good shows in there. My primary web browser is chrome because I simply love its developer tools and I now have gotten used to it. So unless chrome is very much hogging on my ram, in which case I switch over to firefox for some of my tabs, I am okay with using chrome. I have a motorola phone with stock android which means all google apps pre-installed. I use hangouts, google keep, google map(cannot live without it now), heck even google photos, but I also deny certain accesses to apps which I find fishy like if you are a game, you should not have access to my gps. I live in India where we have aadhar cards(like the social securtiy number in the USA) where the government has our fingerprints and all our data because every damn thing now needs to be linked with your aadhar otherwise your service will be terminated. Like your mobile number, your investment policies, your income tax, heck even your marraige certificates need to be linked with your aadhar card. Here, I dont have any option but to give in because somehow "its in the interest of the nation". Not surprisingly, this thing recently came to light where you can get your hands on anyone's aadhar details including their fingerprints for just ₹50($1). Fuck that shit.
There are and should be always exceptions when it comes to privacy because when you give the other person your data, it sometimes makes your life much easier. On the other hand, people/services asking for your data with the sole purpose of infilterating into your private life and not providing any usefulness should just be boycotted. It all boils down to till what extent you wish to share your data(ranging from literally installing a spying device in your house to them knowing that I want to understand how spring security works) and how much do you trust the service with your data. Example being, I just shared most of my private data in this rant with a group of unknown people and I am okay with it, because I know I can trust dev rant with my posts(unlike facebook).41
How to ruin your Saturday:
1.Update Google Play Services from the SDK Manager.
2.Say Hello to 20 new build errors.2
(I'm using Sennheiser bluetooth headphones)
Me: What device is that music coming from?
*checks desktop, nope*
*checks laptop, also nope*
*checks for phone, can't find phone*
*checks living room*
*notices phone is in hand with google play music open*
Wireless headphones are weird.
PRO LIFE SAVING TIPS FOR DEVS (long rant, not clickbait 😝)
I have a medical condition called DVT (Deep Vein Thrombosis). It clots blood in veins near lower body parts. Affected leg swells and become red and it is very painful. It happens when you very frequently sit for very long.
I used to play games, code and stuffs for hours and sometimes I used to stay at home without taking decent walk for weeks. I am only 18 and did not see it coming. But its really early stage and I might be fully recovered real soon.
This condition is not rare and happens to millions of people every year. And it can be avoided if you avoid sitting at computers for long hours and take 5 mins to walk or stretch. Even if you can avoid this condition, there are many others if you dont pay attention on your body. Please take some time to google how you can avoid anything such.
(Please don't comment sympathies, I really know you wish well for me. Instead you can throw tips what you do to relax after long hours of work).17
I started coding in 1994 making .BAT menus for my DOS games. Used HELP.EXE to find commands I could use. Then I figured out how to modify and run GORILLA.BAS (using Q-Basic). Man, when I realized that all BASIC commands were in the OS documentation as well, that was the Red Pill! Just started to copy commands and blocks from the Gorillas game into a new program, read the doc, modify, run and learn. Btw, the first BASIC command I played with was "PLAY" (for music).
At that time I was 10 and there was no Stackoverflow, no Youtube, no tutorials, no Google... no easy path to follow down the rabbit hole.
A story about an Android TVbox which decided to become an iPad
Several years ago we've bought an android tv-box.
It served me and my family well for several years.
Specs are not that important in this story, but there they are:
Amlogic quadcore 1.4HGz
This device served us well - online TV, browsing, music, file sharing and so on. But recently cheap Chinese memory deciteed to take a break and damaged ROM. Because of that device won't boot. The only option was to take it apart and "short circuit" certain legs on memory chip and make it boot from SD card and install new firmware. After such operations tv-box worked well again.
Hoverer, memory glitched again and again and this algorithm was repeated for several months.
But that is not what is this story about.
One day memory went completely crazy and there was no way to install new firmware on it. It just hanged on install. (BTW, it was official firmware for this device)
But after countless attempts it finally worked! It installed the firmware and booted into launcher and connected to WiFi!
But now comes the most interesting part.
It was not android anymore.
It decided to became an iPad.
My dad logged in to his Google account via tv-box and got mail that someboby connected from our IP via iPad (we don't have an iPad) and using safari browser! Stock browser is not safari browser.....
"Ok, nvm, crazy glitch." - we thought.
But preinstalled play marked wont launch. Because he told us, that we're trying to connect from iPad.
And Google chrome page suggested to download chrome for iPad
And everything was acting like it is an iPad.
OK, downloaded iTunes, why not??? ._.
Tried to install elixir for android via apk from flash, but then memory glitched one more time, everything went black and tv-box had damaged ROM again...
After that we decided to not torment it anymore...
That's it. Poor Android TVbox that all his life dreamed to become an iPad. Rest in peace.3
Let the student use their own laptops. Even buy them one instead of having computers on site that no one uses for coding but only for some multiple choice tests and to browse Facebook.
Teach them 10 finger typing. (Don't be too strict and allow for personal preferences.)
Teach them text navigation and editing shortcuts. They should be able to scroll per page, jump to the beginning or end of the line or jump word by word. (I am not talking vi bindings or emacs magic.) And no, key repeat is an antifeature.
Teach them VCS before their first group assignment. Let's be honest, VCS means git nowadays. Yet teach them git != GitHub.
Teach git through the command line. They are allowed to use a gui once they aren't afraid to resolve a merge conflict or to rebase their feature branch against master. Just committing and pushing is not enough.
Teach them test-driven development ASAP. You can even give them assignments with a codebase of failing tests and their job is to make them pass in the beginning. Later require them to write tests themselves.
Don't teach the language, teach concepts. (No, if else and for loops aren't concepts you god-damn amateur! That's just syntax!)
When teaching object oriented programming, I'd smack you if do inane examples with vehicles, cars, bikes and a Mercedes Benz. Or animal, cat and dog for that matter. (I came from a self-taught imperative background. Those examples obfuscate more than they help.) Also, inheritance is overrated in oop teachings.
Functional programming concepts should be taught earlier as its concepts of avoiding side effects and pure functions can benefit even oop code bases. (Also great way to introduce testing, as pure functions take certain inputs and produce one output.)
Focus on one language in the beginning, it need not be Java, but don't confuse students with Java, Python and Ruby in their first year. (Bonus point if the language supports both oop and functional programming.)
Use industry standards. Notepad, atom and eclipse might be open source and free; yet JetBrains community editions still best them.
For grades, don't your dare demand for them to write code on paper. (Pseudocode is fine.)
Don't let your students play compiler in their heads. It's not their job to know exactly what exception will be thrown by your contrived example. That's the compilers job to complain about. Rather teach them how to find solutions to these errors.
Teach them advanced google searches.
Teach them how to write a issue for a library on GitHub and similar sites.
Teach them how to ask a good stackoverflow question :>7
I have to explain how the Apple app and the Google play store are the same thing for different platforms to 2 Apple fanboys.11
A big FUCK YOU to chrome, and a big FUCK YOU to google in generally. First the hell that is code.org, then the chrome. I genuinely want to open a dictionary in google to see if the word "privacy" is in there. Sure, first it was tracking users with by making them agree to a long ass TOS no one wants to read except lawyers, then barely even giving any info and asking for consent with YOUR data, but this is too far. For all you that dont know, LanSchool is an application that allows teachers to see students screens, internet history and more. Its the reason kids can't play games in English class. But most importantly, its a chrome extension. We have to do assignments from home right? So when we logon to the school account from home, LANSCHOOL GETS DOWNLOADED ANYRACKS EVERYTHING I DO. It pains me how teachers can view so much information unfairly because of some unknowing students, my friends privacy was unfairly in the hands of google and the school system. Right when I found out about tit (~2 mins after i first logged on) i made an Ubuntu VM just for goddamn google docs. Back to my friend, he went on some websites not to be considered appropriate, and got in huge trouble. He was completely unaware of the fact that they could see his screen, and I resent google for allowing a third party to manipulate my PERSONAL COMPUTER without my consent. Die google, you ruined android, which had so much potential, and now the web and virtual privacy. You should be <strike>ashamed</strike> dead, and I hope in the future you realize that one day people will have common sense.26
I just started using devRant and I am amazed by the look of it!
Since I saw it on Google Play store, I browse through rants 4-5 times per day and I finally decided to make first rant myself.
I just wanted to say hi to everybody who's using devRant!3
"Use a .dev domain? Not anymore."
Just read a medium article and thought some would be interested in reading it too, as I personally didn't know many of the information published there, for example:
- .dev gTLD belongs to google and nobody can register one
- .dev TLD are required to have a secure connection in chromium/chrome from now on, forcing you to use self signed certs across all development machines
"When applications opened for gTLDs in 2012, Google didn’t just apply for .dev. They applied for 101 gTLDs, including .google, .play, and .app. However, Google wasn’t the only company to apply for many of these gTLDs. For some applications, it took years for applicants to negotiate who would end up with the rights to the name. Google’s application for .dev was pending for over a year. Finally, in December 2014, their application for .dev was granted."
"In 2015, Chromium added the entire .google TLD to the HSTS preload list with little fanfare. It was the first and only TLD entry in the list for two years, until .dev was added in September and shortly followed by .foo, .page, .app, and .chrome — all Google-owned gTLDs."

My personal android app project started at android 1.5 and actually went to google play when android 4.2 was launched... With the look and feel of android 1.5...
Prior to that I spent about 2 years trying to make an Adobe Air app out of it.
I feel proud of my perseverance.
To celebrate reaching 6969
Trigger warnings: That rant about ++
Disclaimer: I'm writing this for the future me, first of all. No specific audience. Just clarifying before anything that shouldn't, passes your thoughts.
I don't care about ++. Not gonna lie. I appreciate the thought, but I genuinely care as much about getting upvoted as I cared about my auntie's gift shirts for my birthday. Or any birthday gifts at all.
So my intention of posting rants was never being liked by anyone, or getting upvotes. I'm not a troll either. I just... Like to be included and interacted with. I'm here to play, sorta say.
I'd appreciate comments more though. Again, I like to be included. I sometimes don't answer because I have nothing to say. Just liking a comment to nod as "I appreciate your efforts on reaching out of your thoughts bubble to communicate with me". Or sometimes because I'm depressed. It's a weird situation to explain, but for me the thing I call depression, the big black dog (Google "the big black dog called depression") is plain lack of thought and feelings. I get so stressed or overwhelmed that I can't think or feel. That's the first phase. I can't remember what the next phases are, because for a few years now that's when I cut contact with society, go into my bubble and recover through the selfish "just me" time. I cut contact to stop feeling for others and find a little sunshine within myself. Maybe there are other ways, I don't know. But this is the one I like. The time I'm being selfish to save myself from getting sucked in a black hole that I don't even remember how deep is. I've hit the bottom a few times. I can't remember how it felt, which might be encouraging to some, knowing that one day you'll forget what depression really felt like.
And I was alone when I hit the rock bottom. There are people around me before and after; I've always had good people and I'm thankful for that, but not everyone is going to be there all the damn time. But... I was alone. And doesn't matter how many people you've known, that feeling of not being able to pick up the phone and call your someone... That's depressing. Maybe that's even depression itself. You forget what the sunlight felt like, or friendship or happiness.
Point is, I like to be heard and corrected. I don't argue for the sake of arguing. I argue for the sake or understanding.
So if you like me as a person and upvote me, I can't do jackshit about it. Thanks I guess? Or as some British singer used to say "if you love me, then, thank you. If you hate me, then, fuck you."28
Dartlang has now tied with lua for my favorite programming Language.
And the flutter sdk is my favorite tool / library
Good job Google .
Also.. My first app is in the google play store. I will make a post abt it soon.12
Just turned my RPI3 into a headless music player.. for my cat. Thanks to the clay project, a CLI for google play music. It works really well... Barely touches system resources, uses about 25% of a single core and just a few MBs of RAM.. Will be the new client I use on my main computer as well, because the google play web app is a resource hog.
not me ranting but it's a funny story about a rant
So I work on an Android app, that was literally copied from ios code, because the ios app development started 1.6 years earlier (business decision)
You have developers copying swift code to java, and the app is crap, full of bugs... I am the newest addition to the team so I'm currently cleaning up this mess.
Anyway, the ios app works perfectly, the Android app however has litterally 0 crash-free users.
So all of a sudden, one day at the office, I hear my fellow ios dev screaming " what the fuck, you retarded peace of shi?! this is fucking nonsense".
I'm like , guys, can someone re-boot him please? Wtf happened? (everyone laughing)
It turns out someone posted a review on apple store, 1 star, complaining that the app doesn't work on Android, and now the rating on Google play is higher than that on apple store.
He gets upset about it every day, and I'm like... fuck it, I'm not fixing no bugs if they go complain on apple store!!! 😂 And then he goes ranting about it again.3
WHAT THE FUCK? WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS SHIT? ARE YOU FUCKING SERIOUS.. I WAKE UP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FUCKING NIGHT BECAUSE MY FUCKING PHONE VIBRATED UNDER MY FUCKING PILLOW WHICH I KNOW ISN'T VERY HEALTHY BUT WHATEVER, I CHECK MY PHONE AND IT'S A GODDAMN GOOGLE PLAY AD... IN THE FUCKING NOTIFICATIONS. THEY FUCKING SENT ME AN APP SUGGESTION IN MY NOTIFICATIONS EVEN THOUGH THAT OPTION IS SPECIFICALLY TURNED OFF IN THE FUCKING SETTINGS.
FUCK YOU GOOGLE YOU BOTNET GREEDY BLOATED "muh AI" PIECE OF SHIT. I HOPE YOUR SERVERS IN ALL CONTINENTS GET BURNED DOWN BY SOME SADIST NIHILIST HACKER WITH A 0DAY AND YOU SEIZE TO EXIST.
Hopefully seeing the app that I've been working on for months officially released and on both the App store and google play store.
Please Google, allow us to disable that retarded Google translate thing you've got going on the play store.
Seriously, 90% of the apps' short description are absolutely unreadable because they insist on translating it to my device's language even if no translating is available.
I know it's probably useful to some people (the ones who don't understand English but somehow understand the human language equivalent of spaghetti-code, which I suspect is not many), but this needs to be disable-able, it makes the experience of discovering apps extremely awkward.8
So I had to buy a laptop
I had a Lenovo G50-70 (2014) it was really good, mid-range i5, 6GB of RAM and to speed it up I've installed an SSD. 3 years (and some formatting) later it started being slow, I couldn't even play Minecraft anymore (and the battery was dying)
This year we're learning and using PCs for the first (real) time, so I needed a good laptop.
I started searching everywhere, Google, shops, Amazon... (Excluding HP and Acers for good reasons 😂) so I've found this Asus, which isn't really famous, but the model is UX510UX.
FHD display, Nvidia 950M, i7-7500U, really good battery, 8GB of RAM, 1TB of hard disk
I bought an additional 128GB M.2 SSD from WD (I'm sorry but I can't live with a HDD 😂)
All of this for ~700€
I'm very happy for the purchase, the laptop is all metal (pinky bronze, but I like it)
It's really powerful, I can play GTA with mid-high details without any lag. (Remember, I play GTA on the desktop with a 1080 Ti so my standards are high)
I'm happy 😄!23
Apple: F*** Open Source!!!! Money's our god!!!!
Google: Let's make MONEYYYYYY... and then give code
Microsoft: Ya... ok... yeah... no... sry but we have do to some money...
Linux: OPEN SOURCE FOR EVERYONE!!!!! IT'S FREE!!!!!! hey... guys... what ain't you coming, I'm lonely *Play "sound of silence"*9
finally i finished a project and released my first game in google play!
very satisfaction, much wow.
now creating a list of features i will add in future updates, working on a marketing campaign and building concepts for future projects.19
People commenting in google play like "this app is bad, crashing all the time". Well, there is a report button over there, maybe you can help me to solve problems instead of whining?2
Anti Rant: Is it just me or are Google Play app updates rolling out really fast... Like i have published some updates recently and they have been live in under 10 mins.
Looks like Google got their act together!10
Google told me I was speaking their language and asked if I wanted to play a game in a very Matrix-esque way. I'm now in the middle of coding challenges and when I finish one of them a ascii white rabbit hops across the in browser console. You have my attention Google, well played.4
I really like how Opera Mini says it has an AdBlocker implemented, yet the app 'Contains Ads' according to Google. Guess it's not an effective blocker.8
On Play Store if you double tap on an image it will zoom out instead of zooming in.
Dfox and trogus I'd love to subscribe but are there going to be additional payment methods? As in, at least some people on here do not have Google play services and although i do, that's solely for notifications, I'd love to remove that stuff.21

It's Google again.
With the new feature where one can see the latest release notes and update information on 'update screen' of Play Store app.
Buggers don't even provide release notes or keep the ones for years without having user to know what shit has been added or removed.
So my OCD kicks in today morning and I decide to update all the apps.
Well, Google Maps has an update for me. So I proceed to read the update information and bang! 💥
'No information has been provided by the developer'.
Firstly Google never mentions the release notes and now is unable to handle the mistake correctly.
Why wouldn't they give the update notes??9
When you want to develop android apps but forever banned from publishing on Google Play for impersonating yourself...11
Just updated devRant and out of curiosity scrolled down to look at the recommended apps - wtf
I'm not depressed and I know English already?
Btw update looks nice 😉4
I just had to give my self a written copyright permission to publish an android app for related to my own website as it was violating googles impersonation policy without it.
And the best part about all this, is it took google 3 days to respond to my initial complaint just to find out the reason why they suspended my app and than another 2 days to resolve it all, after I provided all the "legal" documents1
Went to Google Firebase Appfest
Made an App
Selected in the Top 3
Worked on the app further for 1 Month
Published it in the Play Store

We've all had shitty jobs at one point or another, maybe some of us already had software engineering experience while having to work in a different field for a variety of reasons.
Well check this shit.
At one point(during my second year of school) for various reasons I had to work in retail. For those that know, retail can be a soul crushing experience...the trick is not letting management to convince you that it is an actual good job, it is not, and I have respect and sympathy for everyone currently working in it. The mind numbing retarded customers that we get are absolutely fantastic in every sense of the word.
My position in retail was as a phone salesman, for MetroPCS (which for all of y'all european ninjas is one of the low end phone carriers here in the U.S) and the people that we get as customers where I live are normally very poor which apparently in Mexican culture stands for annoyingly ignorant (I am Mexican myself, so I can really vouch for this shit)
One day a customer came in telling me that there was an app that he was using that kept giving him troubles, it was a map application for truck drivers. Now, obviously, this had nothing to do with my line of work(phone salesman) and as such I normally tried to explain that and let them be, but I imagined that it was a settings issue so I reluctantly agreed to help him. I explained to him that the app was no longer maintained and that the reason for it was probably that the developer abandoned it and that he would just have to look into the app, upon closer inspection the app itself was nothing more than a wrapper over google maps with trucker icons and a "trucker" interface, he was using the app as a GPS navigator and he could as well just have been using google maps.
The conversation was like this:
Me: Well this app is no longer supported, it will probably be taken off the google store soon, you can look for something similar or just change to Google maps
Retard: What? no! I came here in order for you to fix it, Metro needs to fix their own apps!
Me (in complete disbelief): We have no control over third party apps, and even for the ones that we provide the store has no control over them. But this app is not ours and so we can't really do anything about it.
Retard: Well WTF should I do? I have been having many issues with youtube and spotify, shouldn't Metro fix their Google store?
Me: Those apps are not ours.....wait, you seem to believe that we own youtube and spotify, those are not ours
Retard: How the fuck they are not yours! its your phone isn't it?
Me: Eh no.....Metro does not(at this point I was sort of smiling because I wanted to laugh) own youtube or spotify or the play store or even this phone, metro does not own Android or Samsung(his phone was a samsung core prime)
Retard: Well You need to fix this
Me: No I do not and I can not, the developer for this app abandoned it and has nothing to do with us
Retard: Well call the developer and tell him to fix it
At this point I was on a very bad mode since this dude was being obnoxiously rude from the beginning and it annoyed me how he was asking for dumb shit.
Me: Did you pay for this app?
Me: So you expect that some developer out there will just go about and get working for something that you did not pay for?
Why don't you just use Google maps as your GPS?
Retard: Don't be stupid, Google has no maps
At this point I show him the screen where there is a lil app that said maps, pressed it and voila! map comes to life
Retard: Well....I did not know
Me: Yeah....but I am the stupid one right?
** throws phone for him to catch
Me: Have a good one bud.
And my manager was right next to me, he was just trying to control his laughter the whole time. I really despised working in there and was glad when I left. Retail man.......such a horrible fucking world.7
WHO WANTS TO GUESS WHEN I WOKE UP TODAY?!?!?!?
5:30pm.... and not by my own will.... I got a feeling that I need to start going to bed earlier :(
Past week was REALLY busy BUT today is the day... day of glory! I just pushed LessonScheduler update!!!!
@CptPie - Now you are able to set location of class and MOST OF german translation is in place already (not all of it. @Paramite, could you?)
@Wallpaper - now it is more then flexible enough to set lunch
@filthyranter - "alternating weeks" - now you can have as many schedules as you want (In other words: now it supports it)
@ELCapitan - most of german translations are in
@GodHatesMe - circles are bit bigger now
Could you guys report if any bugs comes up?
Tomorrow planing to improve UI/UX and hopefully improve translations.
And somewhat soon add simple way to set Homeworks of some lesson15
Hi.. Recently I began my career in IT firm but my work doesn't involve coding.
But I really aspire to become an programmer. I have been always searching playstore for apps related to programming.
Google play suggested me devRant. I installed it and found that it is the right place for me.
I hope you guys will be helpful and kind.
Thanks Guys !!!6
Don't you just love it when backend/website team does changes and no one notifies anyone about it :)
Google rejected two updates claiming app is has the ability to play youtube videos in the background, but the app is more of a dashboard just to let admins view their data O_O
After digging around, it turned out those dudes changed a webpage we were viewing in the app, and included a youtube button, now when you play that video it stays running in the background.
Took me four days to find out that, and only after Google sent us what exactly was violating their policies.
Worst dev sin: publishing an update to Google play that calls the mock backend instead of production.
4th grade. My parents left for the night and got a babysitter for me and my younger siblings. The babysitter showed me a game she likes in IE. You could make an account, raise a digital pet, a "neopet," play flash games for points to buy items from other users who listed them in their own stores that had custom css/html, including bg music. This was the first time I had really witnessed what the web could look like. Animated tiled gif bgs really amazed me so I took to google with which I discovered sites where one could copy css and html snippets for themes. I stored each new html tag I discovered via w3cschools.com in a powerpoint where the snippets I found were pasted somewhere randomly in the ppt. From there I learned html, CSS, and a billion other things. To date I've made websites, apps with several langs in win/Linux/osx/Android (but not ios yet). I've managed servers, and databases , and DNS records. I've in even ran website with 100k requests a day.3
If you want to quickly become depressed, look at how much money you've spent on apps you don't even have installed: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...11
Just noticed that the media control keys on my keyboard are recognized by the Google Play Music webapp3
1. Would have learned Android app development using Kotlin by wk 200
2. Done with machine learning by wk200
3. Would upload my own apps on google play store.
4. Buy a new laptop with my own earned money.7
Just logged into Google play dev console and noticed an app i made a couple years ago at a conference has 300 downloads and a good rating. I don't care to share the app name though, as it may tarnish the rating if other developers saw it, haha.
Tried to open 'Recent App Crashes' tab in the Google Play Console app. Play Console crashed. Thanks Google.3
I spent hours figuring out why my html5 video autoplay didn't work on Android. I muted it like they said, I tried many different ways to play it, even with a 3rd party video player, nothing worked. It's actually because my Google Chrome was on data-saving mode. Motherfuck.2
!rant !notrant !confession_maybe? Bit of a read.
Last year, around September (around 8 months into my first job in the industry), I started loosing motivation to be a developer. By then I had consistently dropped out of 3 or 4 courses for my degree (no penalties as it was pretty much within the starting weeks of the each course). I was think that I do not want to do this. It got so bad that I was looking for other jobs and even trade apprenticeships (I am old-ish so chances of that are so bloody low).
I had my mind set. Including not wanting to finish the degree I had started, which only had 1 year as full time to complete.
My missus supported me in my decision making, but she insisted that I finish the degree as the years I spent on it would have been a waste if I don't. So I agreed, with the idea that I will do this part time when I find another job.
Fast forward to New Years and a very spontaneous decisions was made. I resigned from my dev job and we ended up moving away to another city, two weeks later. By this point on I was so certain that I did not want to be in the IT industry. I had not done any dev work (personal projects or learning new technology etc) outside of the job for months. It had been months since I've visited devrant (to be honest it was not even installed on my phone, mainly because I broke my phone and after having it replaced I had not reinstalled a large portion of the apps I used). I had sold my custom built pc thinking that we do not need two PC's (we kind of don't, she's fine with her laptop) which meant no more dev stuff as none of this stuff was set up on my missus pc. I was looking for all kinds of jobs outside of the IT industry, anything really.
But then something happened. And this is that something. I mean this, deverant. I was flicking through the apps list on google play store, and I saw devrant, and I choose to reinstall it. I began reading rants and comments and I am certain that this made me realise why I want to be a developer. Within about 2 weeks of redownloading deverant I was enrolled full time as a uni student fully motivated to earn my degree.
There are bits and pieces left out of the story. I don't regret leaving my first ever dev job and moving away, it does seem drastic but it changed me for the better I believe. I have the experience from that role and I new fresh start so to speak. I think my missus new this was just a phase, although it felt so certain about it.
I am more of a lurker than a ranter or a commenter on this social platform but I felt that I need to share this. Thanks for reading this. Not really sure what to tag this. Has anyone else experienced this before?5

So.... a while ago my non tech friends asked me to help with their game... As all of the devs out there who wish to make a game or work in HW company I decided to say YES....
Basicly the game was a 2D infinite runner and when I looked at it it seemed like it was allmost ready, but it was not :D
The codebase was horrible.... Non of those two knew how to write scripts properly.... Half of the time I spent trying to teach both of them how to code properly and make the code readable for other coders..... After that most of the time went in troubleshooting 3rd-party plugins regarding google play services and fixing anoying performance issues.....
And last friday we launched it for Android https://goo.gl/MZpjf9
I'm really proud of my non tech friends because they withstood my complaining about the sourcecode and learned a lot of new thing these past months!!! It was a pleasure making this with them..... I know that the game is simple and it could have been done in much shorter time, but part of the expirience is fun and making things happen with your friends!!!1
OK Google.... guess we'll play it the hard way....
I'll just upload all videos i want transcribed onto Youtube in smaller (10 minute?) chunks where machine transcribe is enabled...4
Some feature suggestions:
- Customise order of tabs in new UI
- Highlighting of a rant's OP when browsing comments
- Update screenshots on Google Play & App Store2
Grew up with just my brother and mother in Russia. We had very little money so we haven't even seen computers in real life until my mother found a swedish boyfriend and we moved to Sweden the year 2000.
I was 7 years old at the time and I saw my first computer in what I think was the Swedish Migration Board office. The purpose of the computer was for convenient registration for the reception or something, but the first thing I did was found paint and drew some circles, I was completely mind blown!
My mother's boyfriend came and told me not to play with the computer because "I might accidentally install a virus".
A couple of months later we got a PC to share with the whole family, me and my brother were so ecstatic because we have previously only seen them on TV and now for some reason we have one at home "Woooot 😮😮😀"
The problem was that my mother only let me and my brother use the computer on weekends and only for one hour. Somehow this just made me and my brother even more interested in that machine, so we sneaked out from our room at night and played with it.
One night we found out about this great thing called Google and googled "how to program a program" and that's when we fell in love with programming.
When our mother found out she got very angry and disappointed. She was questioning why we were "so much in love with this stupid thing" and said "it's not like you are going to get a job working with it!"
Me and my brother are both devs now. So suck it 🖕🖕🖕1
After ranting about the Google play search, I just noticed that devRants tag search is even worse. not even close!4
Just found a job listing that requires experience in deploying apps to Google Play and Apple App Store T_T8
When and how did you learn about devRant? I can't remember how I learned about it but it was probably thanks to it being recommended on the Google Play Store.5
I published an app on Google Play on Sunday and since then I received a number of emails from 6 unique companies that want me to promote the app using their services (excluding reminders they send for me to get back to them). I understand that some people make a living out of this marketing but stop flooding my inbox with this crap!5
Just discovered Roccat Power-Grid!
It's so awesome and useful!
Mapped all Makros I use while programming to it.
I also have some CPU/RAM info and media buttons (play/pause/next/...).
You can even add website buttons. For example for Github or Stackoverflow!
Not sure if it's faster to use it but it's way cooler :)
Check it out!
Just search for it on Google/DuckDuckGo.
I hate how Google play always wants me to "complete my account" by adding a payment method
I don't want to okay Google? Do you understand? I guess not because you're asking me all the f***ing time!2
Sadly I just had to switch to android, I was in a shop and a notification popup: "Are you enjoying this shop? share some comment, picture, review...) ... the notification was from google maps, it was the latest google app to be disabled, now there is only play store. google account is used only for the play store... fun facts that most of people complains about windows 10 telemetry, but almost nobody complains about "don't be evil" google9
Soon every hacker can move to Toronto and play real-life Watch Dogs.
Little known "Achievement" on Google Play Games:
1)Open Play Games.
2)Swipe the screen anywhere in this pattern - Up, Up, Down, Down, Left, Right, Left, Right. This reveals the classic keypad.
3)Click the buttons in this order EXACTLY - B, A, Play button.
4)Thank me later.3
1- hope that Madagascar will be listed in Google Play when I try to register as a developer... 😭
2- upload many applications on Play Store 😍
3- working as an android developer with an average salary of $50,000 per year, not my actual shitty salary of $4,500 per year... 😒
4- Earn the Associate Android Developer Certification 😎 🙌2
Not many noticed, but I loved the new tone of green that google is using in Play store. It's not that annoying lime green anymore, it's a little darker and pretty.3
Not leaving my last job earlier.
History: Supervisor / Lead Developer was a complete moron who watched videos on facebook and youtube, engaged in heated discussions on facebook, wasted my time by showing the work of other companies and vines, smoked in the office and towards the end gave me shit for not meeting deadlines of the work that he was supposed to deliver. Project that I was working on had very lazy clients so I was free for even 2 days sometimes and that’s why I decided to help my supervisor on the project assigned to him but in reality I was handling two projects all alone.
Aftermath: My indie games started gaining traction on google play and I found a client and I made 5x my salary at my last job.1
Just saw someone say they subscribed to Spotify.. .and Google Play music...
Um... I shouldn't need to point out what's wrong here should I?6
Another try to optimize app for Android Go.
For those, who doesn't know, app will be featured in special Google Play section if it fits some restrictions.
And one of thhose restrictions - app must use less then 50Mb of RAM.
So, I've decided to start from scratch.
Hello world activity without appcompat library, only Anko and Kotlin support.
32Mb of RAM
SERIOUSLY?? What the flying fuck, Google?
I hope some of you will point me, what I'm doing wrong.7
So I made a bit research about voice control /alexa /Google Home..
I came to the conclusion that when in like 20 years voice control is in every household, it WILL play ads randomly every hour. Yes. They'll do it!1
Google play music "I'm feeling lucky" radio has played 3 black keys songs in a row since I started this.. Coincidence?1
I'm a twitter kinda guy but after downloading this app from the "recommend" section on Google Play, I'm now a devRant guy. Can't get enough of ppl complaining about stupid stuff. It's great fun. Some rants are just 11/10. Lovely community.1
Can someone here tell me, Why the fuck is the Inbox app in the Apple App store around 250MB, while the same app is around 7MB on Google Play? Why? Why?
Week 1 Day 1
It's a little late to do a whole big list of things I want to change going into 2018 so I'll just keep this focused on one thing: I do NOT want to work a minimum wage job by the end of 2018, preferably by the end of May.
So I'm gonna change that; starting now. I got accepted to the Grow with Google Challenge scholarship I may or may not have applied to while blackout drunk and I realize that drunk me was watching out for sober me. He set up a good start to getting me away from unloading trucks at 2AM and into a nice comfy chair where I can replace physical pain with mental anguish. But all kidding aside I'm really excited to start this course but I have no drive and motivation is a little hard to come by around here (The Fairy Godmother is MIA) so I'm going to be posting these rants daily in the hopes that it keeps me obligated to not waste the opportunity given to me. So without further ado, day 1 everybody.
I started today really simple. I signed up for a slack account, got Udacity set up so I was officially enrolled and everything, then moved on to setting up my laptop for android development. I wanted a fresh start so I when ahead and wiped my hard drive and looked at a few different OSes to see what fit my needs. After trying to mess around with Arch Linux and failing, I moved to Debian, I liked Debian a lot but I'm not completely comfortable with it just yet and I don't want to waste a lot of time having to familiarize with a new OS when I just want to dig in. So eventually I ended up with Windows 10, for the convenience and ease of use, but decided to put a spin on it and download the Ubuntu subsystem for W10 so I could still practice on something similar to a GNU/Linux OS. So far everything is set up, I have the only 4 applications I will need: chrome, android studio, google play Music, and devrant of course, and I intend to keep all other distractions off of this machine. Overall I'm feeling really good and I'll follow up tomorrow with some actual coding and whatnot and we'll go for there.1
Can people at least write a damn comment and tell me why the fuck they don't like the app???
Yesterday I released an update and noticed someone left a new review, without comments, just a one star review.
First I was worried because maybe the update has some nasty bug, but no, this stupid user rated the app without leaving a comment, GREAT!!!
Now google only shows that specific review because the others were of an old version, so great, now anybody wanting to install my app will only see this shit.
If you already took the time to open the play store specifically to rate the app, fucking say something!!! insult me, say it's a bunch of crap but say something you piece of shit!4
TL;DR: Microsoft updates break drivers, make unbootable. Hours wasted. Such rage.
Lol. I come home, try booting my windows desktop. Need desperately to play some videogames. Power is on. Monitor lights up. Bios splash. Windows startup spinner.
Suddenly, windows startup spinner gone, monitor shuts off. Wait 5 minutes, no change. Force power off and reboot, same behavior.
Google says it's probably a bad video driver. I don't remember installing any in the last month, but heck I don't use this computer for shit outside of games, so may as well do a full OS reinstall and hope the problem drivers are gone.
Reboot and force power off halfway through boot to let windows know something's wrong next boot. Literally no other way to get to alternate boot methods.
Run the reset. First time, percent-counter starts. I leave the room at 30% to go get a sandwich. Come back and it says it's "undoing changes". Something went wrong and I have no way of knowing what.
Oh well, I'll just try again and see what the problem was. NOPE! Completes windows reinstall without a hitch on the second attempt.
Okay, now let's get my stuff back on here. First things first, Microsoft updates for my processor, graphics card, "security". Halfway through the updates, monitor shuts off and I'm back to square one. IT WAS THE MICROSOFT DRIVER, NOT THE ONE FROM NVIDIA GEFORCE EXPERIENCE!!!!
Fucking Microsoft. To all ye who rail against Linux as a gaming platform because of its unstable drivers, observe here the stupidity of Microsoft and weep.3
*12 Dec, 9:00 AM GMT+7 yesterday morning, browsing PS store

Fuck, it was last night 🤤
Welp, I'll just to go to work, I hope there's some interesting bugs/stories to be done
Dear every app developer or web managers/designers that can read this.
Specificly, the ones who own a android app.
If you have an old android app that is still updated from time to time.
Please, take your time for just one minute.
AND REPLACE YOUR GOD DAMN OLD "Get it on google play" BADGE WITH THE NEW ONE, PLEASE! ITS NOT THAT HARD, WHY ARE YOU GUYS NEVER UPDATE TO NEW LOGOS?!
NOT JUST OLD APPS, EVEN SOME BEW STARTUPS ARE ACTUALLY USING THE OLD BADGE, WHY OH DEAR GOD WHY! WERE YOU LIVING UNDER ECLIPSE ROCK OR SOMETHING?!?1
Is anyone else annoyed and / or bothered with how google handles the publishing of apps on its store.
Like I have an account for a client with the clients name and all other his data. I publish a new app on his account with the same name as his account and the app gets rejected for copyright violation because the name and material are copyrighted to the client who is publishing the app.
This is the scenario:
Lets call the client Luis, and he has a developer account named Luis with email email@example.com
And the app is called Luis, but when I tried to publish it it was rejected because it contains copyrighted material from Luis.
Like I understand they need to protect the store from fake apps and all, but how do I give myself the permission to use something I own ?
And now I need to find a way for a client to make a contract from him to him for his material so that google will publish the app
How does one go about finding a niche on Google Play? I hear if you want to be a successful indie dev it is a must. I released my first game a few weeks ago, it has seven five star ratings currently (mostly from friends and family, addmittedly) and I can't even find it by searching. Before anyone says it, I've heard many times before that the indie dream is dead. However I feel like with enough dedication one could at least make a livable wage (just an 18 y/o and his girlfriend).
Shameless self promotion:
If devrant was like google play store:
"I'll just give you a -1 before reading your rant, If I like your rant I'll give you a +1 later". Never comments again.
talking about people with computer preferences i don't understand.
i sometimes forget i use a mechanical roller ball mouse for work and play.
which one? just google it, these are so out of fashion there are only three different models currently for sale anywhere that i can find.6
well apple can go suck it
i have a devRant subscription on my account, "i accidentaly had the subscription on same devrant account from google play and appstore, but because the google play renewed first, the appstore one failed, and apple wont let me update any apps or install even free apps until i add a NEW card to it that has funds to pay. WHY CANT APPLE JUST DO IT LIKE EVERYONE ELSE WHEN AUTOMATIC PAYMENT FAILS: TELLING THAT IT FAILED AND CANCELING IT3
I published my first game, Rain. Everything seems to be going well, but I don't know what to do next. I've done some self promotion on social media. Should I spend some money on advertising?
Google Play: https://play.google.com/store/apps/...6
Read about first Android Go device launch will happen lately this month.
Read about restrictions for Android Go section in Google Play.
" - RAM usage less than 50Mb"
With removed Google Maps (they decided to replace with something lighter later) and without stripping functionality app barely fits 64Mb.
With Google Maps it takes 150-200Mb.
Today found Google Maps Go apk.
It's fucking PWA wrapped in apk.
Poll: Go in Android Go stands for...
- Go fuck yourself
- Go learning web development
- Go writing 100 shitapps per second, all with one button1
I find it ironic that Signal refuses to run without Google Play Services 😄
It was good to know ya, miss RedPhone times, you're just making more and more suspicious.
Is this your mine canary guys?2
I'm conflicted on whether it's worth the time in uploading my app to the google play store. What do you guys think?13
Technically the first things I received money for were some android apps I published in the Google Play Store. They were icon packs that I created the icons for and mimicked someone's android project. After that created some of my own android apps. First paid career job, hired 2 years ago for java web developer at a health insurance company. I still like it, very appreciated here.
Well this would be the first post of myself in the past two years of dev life.
Hi fellas, I wanted to be a serious pro programmer. Even though I was working in a large scale enterprise product, I often feel like missing some awe(want to settle a job in Google) in my dev life. I managed to grasp and play profoundly in some trending and hot techies like Angular, React, Electron, Laravel, Symfony, Extjs, Spring....I still feel unlucky. :(1
Is there anyway to support dev rant using Google Play credits instead of donating "real" money?3
What does everyone keep on their desk? I have a rubber ducky for debugging, Google glasses for days I want to threaten to leave, and a few poker chips to play with when I need to think.1
So i was putting finishing touches on an android game i was building in Unity3D as a fun side project - implementing google play leaderboards and google ads.
Luckily google is nice enough to include 2 unity plugins for ads and leaderboards/achievements however, THE FUCKING PLUGINS AREN'T COMPATIBLE. TWO PIECES OF SOFTWARE THAT ARE LITERALLY MEANT TO WORK TOGETHER HAVE COLLIDING .JAR FILES PREVENTING ME FROM BUILDING THE APK.
i had to spend fucking days trying to figure out how to unpack the jar files and what to remove from them so they would stop colliding.
Damn Google, Damn Google Play, Damn Adsense, Damn Admob...
So finaly uploaded my first app to the Playstore. took 5 minutes to make, 25 to ad an Admob module, and a day to get the ad to show...
Now I have to wait 6 hours for my new id (cause I chose the wrong kind of ad) to show and know If it will show on the App...
Luckly The App only has one download so far... mine lol5
Hey guys. Regarding privacy concerns I want to get rid of all these Google Services. Currently I'm facing the issue that most of the apps on Android are using Google Play Services. Any recommendations except not using these apps?12
Does devRant depend on any Google services, sure as Google play services?
I'm trying to get Google out of my life, but would really like to keep devRant 😞8
Is it just me or does the Google Play developer console gets worse and worse with every change they make. Right now its bullshit they add one nice Feature but then fuck up multiple other things at once
i hate people who keep forgetting their Google accounts and create a new one upon resetting factory settings...
When I was 14, I "registered" to Google Play Dev Console. I make apps since then. Most of them are only available in Hungary, but I have some international ideas.4
Last year I made an app to generate project names. It now has over 1,000 downloads on Google Play. Sounds small compared to others, but I'm quite impressed from a personal side project with no advertising or publicity.
fuck those who give low ratings in google play because they have found a drop of error in the ocean of splendor...1
Surely I can't be the only one curious enough to start this discussion; so what's everyone's backgrounds?
I'm sure we're all under the assumption that we're all developers of some sort and like to rant about what we do-- hence the app name-- but what does everyone do? Such as what you make, what you've made, your skill set and a little info about yourself
Myself, I'm a 21 year old male from the North West of England. My name isn't actually Markshall, it's Mark, but I'm a huge fan of Eminem so it's a play on my name on his (Marshall).
I'm not yet employed by a web development company, I work in retail whilst I freelance my web development skills
I have an online portfolio at http://mark-eriksson.com (needs a little updating-- not all my projects are on there and you're unable to view any information about them)
I write code in Brackets (http://brackets.io) on my 21.5" iMac. I use Google Chrome and have iPhone 6s Plus 64GB. PS4 player. Vodka and Jack Daniels enthusiast.
So, what about you?
Side note: devRant needs an edit feature :-(13
Does anyone know if there's a name/term for the common distribution of app ratings that you see for pretty much every app (in the Google play store anyways).
Demonstrated in the pic:4
My first app to upload to Google Play... I wanted to experiment with the messages API on Android, but I have been delaying it over and over and over again.
God, when will I be able to buy Rogue One on Google play movies. Fuck this is not available in your country. Fuck!8
So tired of app developers localizing app information with Google Translate. Use a real person that can READ AND WRITE IN THE FUCKING FOREIGN LANGUAGE or scrap the entire translation and do marketing in English. And Google? Why the fuck do you allow people to embarrass themselves by providing machine translated SHIT in the Store Listing options?
Some gems found on Google Play Store, translated from Norwegian to English the way I as Norwegian interpret them.
Reddit: Reddit is a collection of bank interest rate society: cats, piks, politics and more.
eBay: Offer, to buy, to sell. Turn pages offering and save on clothes Sjoeping, used cars and more
Huuuge Casino: New social castls and casino a sensation! Now play FREE!
And finally, devRant 😂: Social networks to get a contact with other developers than funny qalz about tekk.2
Ok, let's agree to stop giving applications names that are so ambiguous that they give no clue what the purpose is.
Google Play Store has top 2016 apps... Under "most innovative" is the app, "Eve" by "Glow". Is it a game? General app? I was curious and clicked for the detail...
I never in a million years would have clicked on that! Wow. 😓
I kept getting low storage notifications on my watch so I check and nothing was visible it just disappeared so I let's clear the Google play services data, about 20 minutes have past and I had to factory reset my watch and I'm now waiting for the syncing to fucking completed so I can look at the fucking time again5
App Update changelog: "Bug fixes and performance improvements."
What the update is actually about: "Well. We've added some cool intrusive Ads that will screw up your entire app experience. But we don't care."2
@ all Android Devs:
anyone experiencing crappy App sales on Google Play but top numbers on Amazon Appstore?
Wondering if Google is keeping me buried as I don't pay for advertising... Bastards
I FUCKING HATE SMARTPHONES.
THESE JUST KEEP BREAKING ALL THE TIME AND I JUST CAN'T KEEP UP WITH THEM. AND EVERY ANDROID PHONE IS FUCKING DIFFERENT ONE PHONE WORKS GREAT WITHOUT GOOGLE PLAY, WHEN OTHER WILL GET BRICKED.2
I was using the one and only Google to look up fun games to play. I found a game on this website called "scratch", which was actually a site that taught people how to code. I liked games, and I wanted to make them. So I did. The rest is history.
Is there a way to get devRant for android without google play?
Sites as APK mirror normally have all free apps, but I see devRant is missing. And I dont see any other legitimate source which might have the apk.6
hey everyone.I made a Pokemon card sharing app called pokify.People could see the pokedex ,edit cards ,have some fun with friends by sharing those cards. But apprently Google play store thinks I'm impersonating the Pokemon trademark.
frustrated and looking for advice.13
At the weekend I was having a play around trying to make an AngularJS front end for Wordpress using their API.
I was following a tutorial, and noticed when retrieving post titles they were using .success, which had been deprecated, so switched this to .then. Still not working, and my google GOP was being weak, so I popped over to Stack Overflow.
Turns out that when I changed .success to .then I should have also changed
$scope.post = res;
$scope.post = res.data;
Why is always the little things that get missed?
just rates devrant on google play and was surprised to see that few devranters behaved like QA team, finding bugs in devrant and gave as low as one star.3
Made an app for a client on both iOS and Android, published the the app on app store and google play at the same time week ago, google published the app within 2 hours, apple still though, WHY THE FUCK WE PAY THEM 99$ LER YEAR BRUH, THEY NEED A CERTIFICATE OF OWNER SHIP ON THE APP BRAND NAME SMH, CHANGE THIS AND THAT, FUCK THIS SHIT 2 WEEKS TO PUBLISH AN APP AND MY CLIENT IS YELLING WTF5
Apparently Android Pay released for Canadians some time ago, because it's on the front page of the google play store. I really want to use it cause remembering to carry a card around is tough work, but I'm failing the safetynet check.
My only choice, it seems is to revert to a system where I don't have root. I was thinking of installing lineageos, but I'd be giving up some pretty serious things that I've gotten into with Resurrection Remix.
The fling navbar would be gone, I'd probably be able to deal with that but I just find it a way nicer experience than the traditional android navbar.
I might not be able to use Google Assistant, not sure if Lineage has it
And (worst of all), if I revert to a system without root, I won't be able to use my system-wide dark mode from substratum (I'd also be losing battery optimizing features from greenify, which is just another downside)
Existing Android Pay users, is this worth it?10
I'm so happy. A month ago I started my apprenticeship, today I published the first version of my application for my company in the Google Play Store.
It was a hard time, but it was very interessting and I never thought that I can code an app in this short time (I also had 2 weeks school in this 4-5 weeks).1
What's everyone's preferred music player and/or playlist generator? I use Google Play Music now, and am fairly pleased. Any other recommendations?4
I want to make an mobile app(Android, don't have any apple products). Please give me some ideas, I cannot come up with any. I'm not intending to sell the app(nor publish it to the Play Store because I don't have a dev Google account)4
About the devRant podcast... Why they don't have a feed (I know you put it in many "funny places" like Google play, iTunes, but I like to use WeCast to listen to my podcasts...2
Hi guys, i have been addicted in linux and play around it these few days.
There is an issue, for system call and library call, which one can process faster? For example, fread() and read()
I know the different between them, but in term of processed speed, i cant find the answer from google
So I chose weex, web + mobile, and I can easily port my already written vue project, sweet, so I get to porting, run into a few issues but it's pretty easy, need to play with some of the root file path definitions, no "./"'s just "@/" (if you use @ as your root symbol).
great. Pug works, sass... seems to work, then I run into a pretty big issue with sass compilation/loading, can't find an answer for an hour.
So I go out. Then come home, no answer on my SO question.
So I google "jsfiddle weex" to get a jsfiddle template for debugging weex/vue projects.
well I've heard of framework7, but it would require me rewriting most of my element tags and components, but what's quasar?
I have a look, totally cross platform, desktop, web, mobile... wtf..
read the docs, "uses vue single file components"
..what, holy fuck, the documentation is beautiful, it uses vuex, fucking fuck.
I just found it 10 minutes ago....
wish me luck.........
Ugh posting a review on Play Store is an awful experience. The text editor doesn't let you copy or paste and you can't even see your full review once you've posted the damn thing. Why Google 😡1
Has anyone had any luck with Raccoon for downloading Android APKs?
The last thing I need Google for on my phone is Play Store, so if this works, my Google account will be totally removed from my phone.
i just bought a mac and i realized that itunes cost a lot of money.
so i made a music player and youtube downloader in it with php and node so i dont have to worry about music anymore.
thanks to dev rant user who post a youtube downloader with google play i forget who is it you gave me an inspiration to this XD1
Guys!! I'm stuck with a problem in an android app. I want to display video on a VideoViewer. What I really want is to test the software, to see if it can run and display several formats.
The thing is: when I start to play the video file (.mp4 or .3gp) just appears a popup saying "Can't play this video". I don't know what to do. StackOverflow doesn't really help with this, nor any tutorial that I found on Google.
Any tips for a Android newbie?
