//An okay long rant..

So i work at this small robotics start-up company I Copenhagen.
The first dumb part is that it only uses interns as staff, because then they don't need to pay people. (I am working part time, for free. Just to get experience (I am only 20 btw))

So.. I often get into an argument with my boss, since she is a designer with a "passion" for robotics (she has no clue how to do anything related to the work) But I often try to explain to her some current limitations in the staff, and what is possible for us to do, but she will never listen. She really wants us to design our own microcontroller board PCB, and she want it at the size of a coin. However when I tell her that none of the, non paid works has the experience or education to design such a thing, she never wants to acknowledge it, and it really pisses me off.
And her dad, who is the top boss, only care for esthetics when he is making a work environment, which is dumb when we just need to develop stuff...

When you are deep in "planning phase" and haven't written code in weeks -_-

Today my client emailed me and said : "Isn't google and microsoft the same program". What is life anymore?

when the junior dev updates all npm & nuget dependencies in the project to the latest beta versions to make an impression right after joining the project...

when your work machine is actually a potato and build/ reload takes 5mins. zzzz

Trying to work with an API that has no response object (it just returns empty arrays if something breaks) and it's JSON is not key-value.. just a bunch of dynamic nested values. just wow.

All these “top password” lists appearing.. Who audits this? Like ain’t that stuff supposed to be cooked with some salt or something?

Deployments after hours on a Friday. Who willingly agrees to that on someone else's behalf..

When marketing gets overly excited about analytics requirements and you have more code in a page for stats than actual functionality

So here is my take on a shitty teacher.

I once had a microcontroller teacher, who tried to teach a class of non programmers how to code, from a broken compendium. While he was teaching he would correct errors that he found. Most of the classes would be pure theory on C and no exercises.
Needles to say after the first two semesters none of the students could program, and over half of the class had left the school.

Week 1 at new job and non reproducible Prod issue to try resolve.. She'll be right mate?

When your changes keep being reverted and you finally discover the 'experienced' contractor has been using rebase and 'take mine' in git merges.

In organised "standup" where people either offer nothing or try to clear up an issue with someone mid way through.. 'nuff said.

When you discover the "branching strategy" is not far off copying the working directory as a backup -_-

Best way to learn to code? More specifically, best way to avoid distractions whilst learning? I find myself easily tempted to play video games or watch YouTube videos instead that has nothing to do with coding...

Did anyone else suffer from this? Is this just a phase and once I break past it, I'll be really into programming & forget about everything else?
