So, Today was the last day of my internship.
and it was a great last day but everything was fine until.

I started my computer and for some reason it got caught up in boot. It didnt start Nautilus.

So i asked a Senior Dev for help. Nice as these Devs are, he helped me look for reasons. And we found them. My ubuntu hadnt had enough disk space to start. (On a side note there is nothing but Atom Firefox and a few files on there.) So we looked for the biggest files in the system and found them. Syslog was 40 Gb big. And if you think that is shocking behold. Because Syslog.1 was 290Gb big.

Not really a rant but a Story.

Linux gives you so much freedom, for example the freedom to fuck your system.
When i was experimenting with bootsticks i typed the following in the terminal:
sudo dd if=bootstick.iso of=/dev/sdb

Where is the mistake? The usb-stick was already plugged in at boot-time and since it was bootable linux mint named it /dev/sda.

You propably already realized it, i wrote the iso the my harddrive. My attempts to restore the partition-table failed, but luckily the kernel still had it in memory and i was able to backup my files via nautilus.
Still, i nearly had a heart attack

Me: Updates my debian.
Nautilus: Is slow af.
Me: *googles alternatives*
Me: Let's try ranger.
Me 10 sec after installing: Holy jumping jesus on a breadstick there's a lot of shortcuts.

I'm so used to terminal now

When I opened nautilus I tried to type cd

I remember
I did this 1 command which i didnt understood properly
But all i can say is it "apt remove" this 1 package

Suddenly i am watching my every distro related package getting purged

And simultaneously my chrome stopped working , i can no longer open nautilus or even a folder
Terminal is dead
Desktop things are changing rapidly
And.. i finally thought oh well i needed to change my flavour anyways xD
That was how i met my first kernal panic

Yesterday, I was trying to figure out how to open a folder via the linux terminal (like the `open path/to/folder` in MacOS), and I discovered that it can be done via `nemo path/to/folder`. This rang a bell on me because I know that GNOME file manager was named Nautilus.

This got my interest because both names are in Jules Verne's "Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea". Nautilus is the submarine commanded by the great Capt. Nemo, a brilliant individual who plans to explore the depths of the sea with Nautilus.

I learned that the developers of Linux Mint believed the GNOME file manager Nautilus (v3.6) was a catastrophe, and thus, they forked project, giving birth to the awesome Nemo. So instead of exploring the depths of the sea, I guess we could say Nemo is now exploring the depths of our filesystem, right?

Why are there no good file managers for Linux?

Come to think of it, why are there no good file managers that aren't Windows Explorer?

All I want is a good breadcrumb bar (editable), customizability, basic functions such as permanent delete, open folder with, etc, and built in zip reading. Is that too much to ask?

Currently I use the elementary OS one (works a bit better than the default nautilus) but it lacks a ton of basic functionality and there's pretty much no customization.

Please someone make a usable file manager for Linux. Ugh

Going from Nautilus to Windows Explorer feels like going back to Stone age .. why does Microsoft's modern OS feel so clunky . Btw I love the feel of the new Microsoft office ..
