After a year and a half of unemployment and near depression, multiple rejections and turmoil from within my family, I finally got a job!

Never give up, just believe in yourself and in the universe.

Onwards and upwards!

Post my vaccination break, I login to work today and this is waiting there for me..

My designer just dropped this note in our channel where we have our entire team including directors (my manager),

"I wanted to specifically give kudos to Floyd for creating the Confluence page for XYZ feature requirement.

It's so elaborate and very well structured 👏🏻"

And my Tech director adds to it and appreciates my efforts.

My TPM kept praising various new initiatives that I started and how it made him happy to see the progress + how everything was organised.

My skip level manager kept appreciating the work entire previous week and even in a meeting we had just before I started typing this post.

I feel like I have settled really well in this new org + started gaining trust of teams and leadership.

I need to continue the momentum before I start leading the product independently (a few more weeks should be good).

Now two things I am expecting in return, is good amount of international travel + good timely hikes.

And what's interesting is that my employer is known for these exact two things.

So fingers crossed.. 🤞🏻

Well dear former employer thank you for everything. Thanks for taking me on as a junior and not providing any training at all. Thanks for changing my job role without consulting me whilst I was on holiday and again failing to train me for a job I had no idea about, but you apparently needed me to do for you. And finally thank you for letting me work nearly a full shift before telling me how much you like me, don't have a bad word to say about me, and you're really happy with all my work but the company and I "aren't a very good fit for each other anymore".

Finally handed in my resignation. It’s a lengthy one, so that’s going to sting on Monday haha.

However, I signed a new contract Friday, better pay, better benefits, pension etc.

Onwards and upwards, feels good.

Getting my first dev position. 3 months of boot camp being told I'd find a job locally in no time, only to find out the true cost; 8 months (after program completion), 100+ applications, 5 interviews, two call backs, and a lot of emotional nights questioning my decision to switch careers.

Feels good to have the first year of work under my belt. Unfortunately I'm back in the hunt.

Onwards and upwards!

I’ve been ill and injured a lot over the last 8 months or so, and i also quit smoking 2 months ago so I’ve put on a bit of extra padding.

I need to loose weight as I’m getting married in August and I want my suit to fit.

Anyway I’ve started eating a little bit healthier, and I’m gradually getting back into exercise (taking it slowly as don’t want to re-injur myself, and need to get my body used to it again)

This has presented 2 problems, the first is that after a run I smell like a tramps ball bag, and the second is I’m impatient and can’t do the sort of training that I used to do.

But, onwards and upwards, and even with no exercise I can still run 2 miles non stop in less than 20 minutes, not going to win any awards but not too bad all things considered.

Applied for a Laravel position

No Laravel code or projects and shoved into Wordpress Dev.

What waste mine and their time.

I suppose it just wouldn't have worked out anyway.

8 more working days and then I’m done, out of the company, no longer part of this crazy project.

Feels a bit weird. Hopefully not out of the frying pan into the fire

So, I’m currently a software tester (please don’t hate me) who is looking to move into development. I’ve been teaching myself programming and have been applying for junior dev jobs.

But it’s been tough, places I’ve been applying for want candidates who have had at least 1 year experience developing in a previous role.

I’ve had an interview for a junior role, but they wanted someone with more experience (and it was my first technical interview so I may have made a few mistakes)

I don’t want to be testing software manually forever (seriously, the manual regression test pack where I work is 1000+ test cases), I find programming more interesting and fun.

What can I do devRant?
