Some people go to party's on the weekend, some people try new desktop environments. Pantheon this weekend !10
The DE life cycle of every Linux hobbyist:
1. Let's work with Unity.... it's so blah
2. Let's check out XFCE.... it does its job, but it needs more zing
3. Let's check out KDE...aah, my poor battery.
4. Let's check out LXDE.... Can you be any more boring?
5. Let's check out Pantheon.... This is perfect, but I'm tired of using a tweak tool to even enable minimize and maximize
6. Let's go to Gnome 3...Ah never mind
7. Let's go to Cinnamon... Blurgh, It reminds me of Windows
8. Let's go to MATE....Hmm, Mutiny layout?!! It reminds me of Unity. Wonder if Unity 8 has made any progress!
9. Go back to Step 1.17
How to install pantheon on any Linux distro that isn't elementary OS:
1. Close your eyes
2. Use your imagination6
I have a question for all you Linux pros:
My son's PC runs on Linux Mint. We wants to switch to the Pantheon desktop so we installed it (I think). I can't work out how to actually switch to it, though.
We don't have an option when we log out.
On a related note, we switched to Linux from Ubuntu because his old machine couldn't handle Ubuntu's resource requirements. I'm curious whether vanilla Debian would perform better?
(No, I probably won't switch to Arch, that's a little too much for my limited Linux capabilities).10
KDE = Goku
Xfce = Flash
Cinnamon = Thor
GNOME = Captain America
Pantheon = Wonder Woman
Windows = Pilaf6
I'm getting quite tired of gnome desktop, which DE should I try?
I've already tried Pantheon but I didn't like it much7
Looking for linux distro / desktop recommendations...
I'm bored of my setup and want to try something new. I'm currently running elementary os with pantheon desktop but the fact that wingpanel can't auto hide drives me insane. I've also used Mint+cinnamon and ubuntu+unity in the past.
I'm currently considering Antergos as a distro because I don't have time to install Arch but I have no clue which desktop env to try - Gnome,kde,mate,xfce...
Best experience? My homie @lordbarnhill and I stumbled onto the solution for installing OpenSocial #Drupal8 properly on Pantheon hosting.
Worst experience? Creating a website for a radiology group only to get fired with 3 days left until launch. The "new" developer turned out to be their IT guy in house took 2 months to launch. The experience up to the point of getting fired was excruciatingly detailed and filled with ope creep.
I've recently found out that you can have Arch on termux! It's amazing!
I'm currently installing pantheon to it!1
Not sure if this will be an unpopular opinion but unity8 was probably the best looking and most modern looking desktop environment to date...
Followed close by pantheon...15
