Installed Linux on my grandma's computer because she uses it only to browse internet so there was nothing new to learn for her other than how to shut it down which is dead simple and the win10 she had previously was slow as fuck. The thing used to be unusable, now it runs fine, LXDE for the win on slow machines3

The DE life cycle of every Linux hobbyist:
1. Let's work with Unity.... it's so blah
2. Let's check out XFCE.... it does its job, but it needs more zing
3. Let's check out KDE...aah, my poor battery.
4. Let's check out LXDE.... Can you be any more boring?
5. Let's check out Pantheon.... This is perfect, but I'm tired of using a tweak tool to even enable minimize and maximize
6. Let's go to Gnome 3...Ah never mind
7. Let's go to Cinnamon... Blurgh, It reminds me of Windows
8. Let's go to MATE....Hmm, Mutiny layout?!! It reminds me of Unity. Wonder if Unity 8 has made any progress!
9. Go back to Step 1.16 -
Am I the only one experiencing bugs with Lubuntu 18.10? Damn, my netbook worked perfectly with 18.04, now my battery is always 100% full charged with 4500+ hour left. I know LXQT is very efficient, but 4998 hours more seem quite a big improvement over LXDE, don't know if I can trust it 🤔5

So... I've been messing arround with my first VPS (with little knowledge of Linux).
First installed lxde to learn how to do it, then back to the terminal. then I started with Apache, watching online tuts ...
Then I changed for nginx... Looks way better.
Installed my sql, php and got stuck. Dropped it for a few days.
Today I restarted, deleted Apache, mysql, reinstalled nginx, my php (with lots of problems because of old instalations). Everything is working now except php.
After going round and arround I changed my focus to relax a bit, and remembered I still have Apache on the firewall...
OK Apache and other stuff that I installed.
Delete everything
New rules only for nginx and reset.
Cant ssh to the server... What?
Oh... Forgot to add rules to OpenSSH...
No matter, I can access the terminal directly on the website....
And it loads to ldxe, with no user set...
Fuckkkk.
Oh BTW I'm in a trial free period with no support...17 -
Just installed Arch for my first time. Using lxde right now but sadly theres now way I can rotate my 2nd monitor (since I have it vertical). What desktop environments do you guys use? Should be lightweight/fast/not many animations and shit.14

Linux - Debian
Hey guys
So I finally have a phone that can run Linux without lag
Already have Debian installed and lxde... Im a complete noob, what should I install more? And any tips for a new user??
Thanks8 -
Had to switch to a different desktop environment from KDE, broke a lot of things, jumped between DEs to find one that'd work. Now hoping LXDE would play smoothly.

My selenium script cronjob is not running on the VPS.
I am not sure what's wrong with it
Even the crond service status just shows
the session was opened for the user root
shows the command
the session closed for user root
I tried the tons of solution available but nothing worked
I am using Ubuntu 16.04 with LXDE13 -
I got a very low power Netbook lately for basically no money.
I thought about using it for some server monitoring / server access via ssh console.
Which Linux distros would you recommend for such a use case. Tried Something like core-os and Debian(lxde) yet but wasn't very satisfied with both options. Both could not display the battery capacity and Debian didn't detect the Intel WiFi.
The Netbook has 512mb of ram which should be fine for a lightweight gui and more than enough for a ssh connection 😅
Thanks a lot for the recommendations :)12 -
Debian with LXDE on my office computer, so fast. What the hell are they showing into their windows images ? D:2
