Going to the office when the girlfriend is working from home.
But most of the time, I knowingly stay home too3 -
After noticing 4 operations in a single line, I comment a pr stating the line is not simple to read as there are many operations which can be, especially in the eyes of a junior, hard to read.
I proceed to suggest a better solution.
Colleague: “what??? How is this not readable??? Is it [op1], [op2], [op3] or [op4]? 🤷♂️”
I kindly explain this person that it’s not about the single operations, but the fact they are all on a line. Inside an object assignment.
Colleague: “you should learn stuff! (4 links to websites giving that snippet of code”
Ah yes, the oldie: “but other people are jumping off a cliff, why don’t WE do it???”5 -
You know what? Fuck it. Git CLI. Hot take.
Question is "least favorite". Not "worst". Not "least important".
Git is great, essential, fantastic, whatever. But I hate interacting with the CLI. I can never remember the stupid fucking commands, I always mess shit up if I need to do something outside of my normal workflow, and honestly, usually the correct way of doing shit looks fucked.
So fuck git CLI and its learning curve27 -
I have so many questions in my head…
Should I focus doing front-end or back-end?
For mobile dev, flutter or react native?
Kanban or Agile?
Google cloud or AWS?
Switch to Linux or stick to WSL2?
Solidity or Rust for blockchain apps?
Best low-code that my dev peers won’t hate me for using?
If starting a project,
Bootstrapping or chase after VCs?
Do you guys use conditioner when you run out of shaving cream?
Keto or vegan?
Is milk really that bad for our body??37 -
Started new job, its big jump for me in my career. Very much excited. People are also very helpful.4

I remember when this person I worked for suggested all the engineers get on a day long call with the product owner pointing out problems and the engineers fixing them on the call. It was absolute chaos when i told my team 😂
Has anyone else ever encountered such??4 -
I love tools such as IntelliSense or Copilot, don't get me wrong!
But i still have a deep rooted fear that one day, developers will become so dependent on those luxuries, that we will become practically unable to write code on our own, without our cloud overlords blessings.
Until, you know.. the server for such a service will crash and no one will know how to fix it without its own help. *see Palpatine meme reference*15 -
What the fuck!!!!!
Never thought I'd have to rant so soon joining my new org.
Guess the honeymoon phase is over earlier than I anticipated.
1. This company is awesome and employee friendly. They made me kickass deal which I couldn't refuse. However, upon checking glassdoor, I realised they still managed to low ball me. Lol.
But I have no complaints and I am pretty happy with whatever they are offering as of now. My next point is the primary reason I disabled my app blocker to rant out.
2. A junior is leaving and so is my lead. Damn! Fuckkkkkk!!! My lead is super awesome. There's so much dependent on her.
Entire organisation is watching the product line she and I am working on. It's the heart of the entire product.
It's just been a month I joined and so much responsibility on me already. Well, I am not fearing that.
What I am afraid of and rather uncomfortable with is that they are going to hire someone else in a different time zone who'll lead this entire thing and they might map me under that new person who'll be a senior level executive.
Fuck that shit. I don't want to leave my current manager for she is awesome too. With departure of my lead, it's just me and my manager that are left in the team.
I am not sure what the future will be but I know that there are lot of learnings coming my way.
One thing I wish for is that they relocate me for short or mid term to UK or EU. Then a lot of things will be solved for me.
For now, I am just keeping my head low and doing what best I can, which is focusing on work.
Hope they promote me with an amazing salary hike.5 -
Last day at my first job. Spent 7.3 years here.
Joined as a kid, leaving as a grown up man.
So many mixed feelings, and being an emotional person, if I were in office, I'd have surely cried.
Crazy experience. So many flashbacks all at once.8 -
Ticket: “feature [x] doesn’t work”
Me: “I’ll need more details: how do I reach feature [x]? In which of the three projects you assigned me is that?”
Manager: “the design is in the ticket”
Me, in my head: “can you effin listen to what I told you before giving air to your mouth?”
Me, in person: “yeah I just need to know which project this refers to and how to reach it”
Manager: “but you have to open the ticket as a separate page!”
Me: “sure!” *waits 15 min, opens a ticket for more details, assigns it to manager, flags as blocking, flags the other one as blocked*
5 mins later: details are given and I can proudly fox it by remembering the manager they have to login in order to see feature [x]
Later in the workweek:
Manager at 8:00 URGENT FEATURE! MUST BE DELIVERED BY EOD
Me, 10:00 “can jump on it, need authorisation for [a procedure]
Me, 11,12,13,15,16,17:30: pings for an answer
Manager, 17:58 “ah sorry didn’t see, we can do it tomorrow”
Is this the matrix? Am I being stopped from developing cause I am randomly accessing matrix’s code without knowing it? Is this the Truman show? And most importantly: can I please take part to a manager hiring session? I am curious to see how tf you hire such peculiar people.10 -
YOU ARE A FUCKING SOFTWARE DEVELOPER WITH AT LEAST A LITTLE TRAINING FOR THE LOVE OF GOD PLEASE STOP FUCKING UP THE GIT REPOSITORY BY COMMITTING THE GODDAMN NODE_MODULES13

I've worked on a year to replace an old legacy system after years of shitty maintenance. We're almost there. So damn fucking close.1

I was told recently by a recruiter that not having a LinkedIn profile in the modern age of job applications is like being invisible, as that’s the first place recruiters and HR managers look to research interesting applicants beyond their cover letters and resumes.
While I admit that I somewhat resent the notion that it’s a “must have,” I’ll also admit that my current job searches sans profile have proven to be somewhat less than fruitful. Though that could be for any number of other reasons as well.
Is there any legitimacy to her claim? Are people applying to jobs while not on LinkedIn essentially ghosts? I’d very much appreciate your insights.7 -
I AM SO FUCKING HAPPY!
Just had an interview and it went fucking awesome!
At some point we just talked about games like Cyberpunk and Minecraft with the developers.
Can't wait to work there!17 -
I just had a meeting in which everyone discussed from starting what we will talk about in next meeting with same people
