Need Django developers to contribute to keralarescue.in, a website which is helping countless people in the state of Kerala, India who are facing deadly floods.

I have a laptop with 8gb ram, 1Tb HDD, i5 7th gen running windows 10 and Ubuntu. Right now I'm using windows 10 as my primary OS, I'm simply addicted to the gestures especially the four finger swipe to switch desktops. I have been thinking of adding an SSD to the mix and my budget only permits a 120gb M.2 or a 250gb normal ssd.

The advantage with m.2 is that I can keep my HDD and boot my OS from the ssd and maybe install my IDEs on there but with the other ssd I'm gonna have to take my HDD out and use it as an external.

I read somewhere that 250gb above SSDs are the ones worth spending money on and that the 120 and 250 doesn't justify the price or life.

So my question is, should I go for an SSD? and if I do which one to go for m.2 or the normal one?

Is passion overrated?

I've met devs who started out passionately but after a long while they say that they couldn't even stand the sight of their IDEs but then they had gotten into a consistency or a routine which is what drives them and that the passion that they started off with burned off along the way.

I joined a startup a few months back, it has four developers apart from me and after I joined and started interacting with them, I could feel that they weren't happy working there, after a couple of months, they became vocal about their dislike, when we were talking about work. I too started experiencing that. Two of them are going to leave next month.

I feel like its starting to rub off on me, I don't have that enthusiasm I used to have, I dread going to the office and overall everything related to the office started to seem negative to me. I feel like I want to get out of this place ASAP.

I was assigned a project which was previously done by another fresher, the project used angular and bootstrap. That fucker wrote custom styles for the fucking bootstrap classes!!! Every time I use "btn-primary" the button won't become blue, it becomes white!! Fuck! He even wrote his own fucking styles for the grid classes!!

I was so frustrated, I had a discussion with my CTO, he told me, that after 3 months, we'll be scraping this and moving to a new frontend. So I'm stuck in this hell for 3 months.

Started off a developer 6 months back. I seem to have lost control of my life. I wake up at 8, be at work at 9am, get back home by 7 or 8pm, dinner, learn, work on my platform, sleep at 12am or 1am and the cycle continues.

I have no time for taking care of myself, no working out, no grooming, no family time, no time with friends, nothing naada! It scares me that I don't have that balance.

I always feel like I'm not good enough and I'm curious by nature, because of these, I sit my ass down and work / learn like crazy because I want to be good but I fear for my health, I'm 22, so I can live for now like this but this lifestyle will ruin my future, I've started getting back problems and shit, that was the wake up call!

How do you guys do it? work - life balance? I believe this information is vital for everyone starting out as a developer.

what's up with backend devs getting on rants about frontend frameworks? Don't they use frameworks for developing their precious servers? or do they just write the whole thing from scratch?

Shit tards, frontend development is evolving and for the better, we've got awesome frameworks that help us reduce the amount of code we need to write to attain a functionality and in a way that reduces headaches when building a large application and gives superb consistent performance because the code has been production tested a million times! yeah you can use js to build a frontend because its JS it's what it was designed to do, but tell me how reinventing the wheel everytime you make a frontend is useful, and how that is maintainable in the long run when building a large production frontend?

The modern frameworks, help us write modular and reusable components that can be shared and used by anyone for any of their application. They are arming the web with capabilities that are close to what native apps offer and still you keep bitching about it.

I just started out as a frontend developer | UX Designer at my company and my CEO calls me the "UX guy" but I've never done any UX work! No interaction with users, no planning out a UI by considering their true need, I just design and develop the necessary pages and add functionality based on what my CEO tells me. That's it, I'm removing UX from my designation from now on, as I don't have any experience in that field even though my experience tells otherwise.

I'm a full stack developer, I have been using windows all my life but I purchased a new laptop recently, it has only 4gigs of RAM and I will upgrade it in the future but that's gonna take a while but mean while its running windows and its a pain in the ass! Memory is always almost full, disk(HDD 5400rpm) usage is 100% when I don't expect it to be. Chrome and VSCode hogs my memory and the laptop lags like crazy because of that webstorm and pycharm are all out of the question. I'd like to switch to a Linux distro, dual boot it since my windows is a genuine copy. Which Linux distro would be the best for me?
