On my first week in the internship, I have to create a small website and it has to be finished ASAP. So I used Bootstrap.
After finishing I tested the website in chrome debugger tools for every screen size (design responsiveness), it was working fine. My stupidity was that I haven't tested on actual mobile/tablet.
The site was live, I send the link to one of my friends and he said "why everything is so small? looks like I'm browsing on PC". I quickly grab my phone and visited the site and it was not responsive on mobile. Started to check the code again, tested again on chrome tools it was working. But not on mobile. Changed the bootstrap file but no fucking changes on mobile.
After few moments of thinking, I realized that I haven't included the "meta viewport" tag. I felt so stupid and it was kind of embarrassing for me.
Now I first include meta tags before working on new project.5 -
Debugging JS,
*uses chrome devtools*, breakpoints work, everything loads, can work on fixing bug
*uses firefox devtools*, takes more time than IE to show up, the UI doesn't show up, can cry in the corner.
Why is firefox debugger so bad :/6 -
Open remote debugger on Chrome but there's a bug on Chrome remote debugger. I can't debug my site because I can't debug a bug on Chrome remote debugger.1

Unpopular opinion: Firefox is a better web debugger/ development tool than Google Chrome... so many functionalities packed in that sweet gem.11

I’m an idiot. Stackoverflow issue that I documented to a T. Javascript. So I put requirement of not having jquery or framework.
Get a comment about do I know it is working? My answer, debugging. They respond back with a question about debugging and some details I totally didn’t read.
Well, that was the bug. Chrome debugger was showing a message I didn’t understand. So they answered my problem perfectly.
But before realizing he answered my issue, I blew up. Of course I know what is going on. The debugger is showing me....did you even run my example?
I almost felt like giving up as a developer. Here is this awesome guy, solving my issue, and some dumbass like me has to be frustrated. Now he won’t respond to take a bounty he so awesomely deserves.
I’m still a dev. I just don’t feel so professional anymore... -
I regret moving to backend. I loved the days when I used to write lines of code and refresh my browser for the changes to be displayed on the screen. I loved seeing the output of my code, the code flow, the light weight text editor, the visual satisfaction and the chrome debugger.
Now I am fucked up, I am working on creating microservices for restful api. I am hating everything about it. The fact that I should compile the entire war, manually copy them to a webapp folder, restart my tomcat and wait for 5 minutes just to see my code, and the text editors are just a pain in the ass, the debugger sucks too.
I was so looking forward to being a backend Dev because I thought Java was cool and I also was fedup with cross browser optimizations on the front end. Now I would gladly write a streaming service foe ie6. Spring has fucked me up so hard
God save me from this mess.6 -
Fuck you Firefox and your shitty debugger.
Why do you try to be so different, to the point where you make the error messages obscure?
Google the error message I get in the Chrome debugger - hundreds of results.
Google the error message I get in the Firefox debugger - I can count the results with my fingers.
Just use the same error messages god damn it.
P.S: Also, why is there no fucking option to open an image in a new tab, like in Chrome?1 -
disclaimer i dont understand css to begin with so you can discard my opinion
You have all these options for width https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US... , but guess what none of them do anything different as you brute force try them all in the chrome debugger. Dunno what cascades except my butthurt
so fuck it ~1000% width works and has an ugly overhang, but fuck front end8 -
Best
typescript - I needed to learn it for a project and I like it, I know java and javascript and it is something in between of those two that makes writing enterprise web applications easier, it’s nice that you can debug it directly in chrome, it makes things easier
Worst
docker, Dockerfiles - devops tools - amount of shell commands inside them and mangled && to make everything running in one file layer makes those unreadable mess that you need to think twice to understand, there is no debugger for it, you do everything with try and see what happens, there is actually no real dev toolset for devops and that sucks, since you got builder images that makes things more mangled than before, it’s clearly missing some external officially approved scripting language or at least
FUNCTION and
WITH LAYER and indentation / parentheses syntax and they still trying to make it flat, why are you doing that ?
as a result next to Dockerfile cause you can’t import multiple ones you get bunch bash scripts with mangled syntax and other crap that is glued together to make a monster - and this runs most of current software on this planet2 -
YES, take that chrome debugger extension i got you to show my page! I have errors, hell yeah i can deal with i didn't include js files!
-
LPT you can just write debug(foo) and it'll break as soon as chromium debugger hits a foo function call. Undoable by using undebug(foo).2
-
I don't know how to CSS, react or front end
.entry:not(:first-child)::before {
however I read identical css in the chrome debugger for the ::before element generated and the general enclosing entry element for the elements displayed in a horizontal row
but the fucking divider element is askew for new elements of a different react component type i've added to the list
i fucking hate my life and front end -
Okay chrome debugger extension in vs code where the fuck is my page. Why the hell cant I see it you hateful son of a bitch.
