Spent more than an hour on client's computer trying to figure out why it was rendering a font in bold, while every other device I tried (even with same browser/OS/screen DPI) rendered it in normal weight. Google Fonts were loading fine. After banging my head into TeamViewer window for the Nth time, I found the problem. The font was installed on client's computer locally, so it was overriding remotely loaded Google Fonts. What's the problem then? The local version only had bold version.
Deleting the local font fixed it.7
Fucking evopdf, I spent 2 days trying to figure out why the fuck my js isn't rendering the html for printing. I created the structure in html already, and it's rendered perfectly with js DOM, when evopdf ran from backend it shows nothing, tried not using external script, tried to put value one by one, it works, my css is also broken, thanks fucker, the client only asked to directly download the html page instead of save as PDF. I thought why the fuck not?
Edit: it worked now, but I spend hours today rewriting everything just to looks decent and it still looks like shit fml7

Why the fuck is windows always a bitch when it comes to font rendering. I mean we are not in 1995 to see such shitty fonts. The fonts look like shit and the ClearType text utility does nothing.
I mean even Android does hell of a lot better than Windows. I am comparing these two because both have to deal with fairly large amount of different H/W configuration and support them.
I already use Ubuntu so please don't tell me use Linux.
Also tried using the MacType third party tool. It works but not as good.2
so recently i have been through memory management hell. maybe i should rethink about pointers and stuff.
long story short: i have done a calendar app using SDL2 and the program is written in C++. when rendering textures using fonts i referenced null pointers to the font.
i will implement events in the future and if you have any suggestions or some advice leave it in the comments, the feedback helps me a lot!

Why the fuck is it Impossible to get crisp font rendering on chrome (widows desktop), Firefox looks sooooo much more crispy... Get your shit together Google, also while your at it, catch up to Firefox with WebAssembly loading time.
And Firefox, it would be really nice if you could start supporting brotli compression... Just saying.3

What in the name of fuck has apple done to font rendering in macOS Mojave. My fonts used to look the sexiest with the mac font rendering and the retina display in High Sierra.
Now my fonts in the terminal and VSCode look like they got fucking anorexia.
I love everything else they’ve done about Mojave, but this one thing almost kills the deal for me 😡
My badass dev moment was when I read a valve white paper on text rendering and implemented a dynamic text version of it in webgl. That white paper was about signed distance fields and how to hack the alpha channel of an image to bake in some font smoothing data.... Holy fuck that felt good. Oh and it looked good too!1
A quick question, I am thinking about upgrading my system which is currently as
Core 2 duo E8300 at 2.8 GHz
6 GB DDR2 RAM
NVIDIA GT 610
I know that its fairly low end but it was fine by me as its 4 years old. The problem is the system gets awfully slow when I fire up Android Studio with Chrome (5 tabs) and also the font rendering and animation of OS (both Windows 10 & Ubuntu) is hideous.
So what would you recommend to upgrade in order to overcome these problems.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I hate Intellij Idea but it's best option available to develop in Scala. Improvements in VSCode/Metals is my last hope.
The (few) things I NEED from Intellij:
* Very good autocompletion
* Refactoring tools (renaming, auto imports)
* Search tools (find usages, sub/super-types)
The (many) things I hate of Intellij:
* Layout with panel sizes doesn't behave properly and it scales instead of remaining fixed.
* Tedious 2-hands shortcuts makes the right hand to move a lot from the mouse
* Delays and lag in the UI, freezes on garbage collection
* High memory consumption, high CPU usage and generally slow and cumbersome
* The delay in the UI between commands is so that it's accidentally possible to introduce typos
* Can't move tabs around and organize them as I like
* Ugly font rendering and missing typography settings
* Multi-caret implementation as a different editing mode is annoying because requires frequent switching
* Unnatural code folding regions, why method arguments are not folded with the method?
* Unhelpful support forum, sometimes dismissive answers
* Highlighting of current word under the caret doesn't work
* Very slow editor, can't keep spacebar pressed to move text or it hangs!
* Several settings reset at every update. Like the auto fetch of git
* New features are added and enabled by default which is very invasive
* Some of the features mentioned above are really annoying and it's not possible/not trivial to disable them
* It uses its own compile and several times it highlights false positives7
I'm creating a bitmap font right now and wanted to automatically generate a image with some text so I can track my progress how it looks. gnome-font-viewer displays it fine, but it'd nothing compared to some real text. Well, how hard can it be?
First attempt: Use ImageMagick to create an image and draw some text. I found a forum post in the ImageMagick forums from 2017 claiming incorrect rendering of BDF fonts, which was promised to be fixed. Yet convert does exactly nothing besides saying “couldn't read font”.
Looking around, there is exactly one tool for the job I'm looking to get done: pbmtext. It works, but doesn't support Unicode. Egh.
Maybe I could write a short script to do it, then? Python's Pillow can import Bitmap fonts (cairo can't). Halfway done I notice it can't deal with anything outside of the character range 0..256.
Using FreeFont directly is out of the question as that seems to be equally much work as creating the font in the first place. I briefly tried SDL, but the font formats it understands are limited.
So how about converting the font then, you ask? Everyone seems to be only concerned about the other way (like OTF to BDF). I tried loading the font into FontForge and exporting an OTF or TTF but couldn't get anything out of it that ImageMagick recognizes as a font.
It seems fucking impossible to render text to an image with an Unicode BDF font in some automated way.
To add insult to injury, my searches containing “bdf” are always interpreted as with “pdf”. I'm not even a Franconian, I can distinguish B and P!4
