Okay i3wm users, what do you like to use for the bar manager? I'm trying to decide if I just want to customize the default bar or change it to something like lemonbar to patch the powerline look in my terminal. I don't want something that would be too complex to configure but still be powerful to use. (I've had issues with polybar but it may have been a fuckup from the script I tried to run with it.

Try to finish some of the projects I've started in 2018. Right now I have a todo list text file, along with multiple written lists (the written ones are more focused on a single project normally).

-Finish the startpage I've been doing off and on for at least a month now. I ended up making a lot of it command based (just need to write the scripts for the commands..). I had a little config menu but I just got tired of it and the text box is autofocus anyways, so I figured I'd make it command focused.

-Nice little root safety script as I call it. I've made very stupid mistakes as root before. I once made a typo and ran "chmod --recursive 644 /" while half asleep. I believe I was trying to run that on the current directory I was in, but as you know, the . and / are right next to each other. Basically the script would see what you're doing and echo "you're about to do x, are you sure that's what you want to do?". Something I know I could knock out in a day, but I've been putting it off for at least a year now.

-Compiling notification. I saw something similar once a few years ago, and it was so fucking cool. I remember it being a Mac, and it had a notification that would basically tell you how many files and shit you had left to compile if you were building something. Kinda want to build something for polybar.

-FUCKING RUBBER DUCK DEBUGGING TO THE EXTREME! This one was inspired by a comment someone made once months ago. Might have been here, or reddit, or in real life, not sure. Basically a big ass fucking rubber duck with LEDs in it that will like glow red if your code wouldn't compile (I think Visual Studio has like an automatic error detecting thing in there?? Maybe something similar if I can figure that out). Honestly not sure how the fuck I'd do this one, but I love the idea and I really want to fucking do it

There's more shit. These are just the main ones I want to attempt sometime in the near future.

Accomplishments of today:

- Wrote a small battery level script for my polybar config to print "AC" as battery level if the battery is removed, rather than having it continue to display the level the battery was at when I removed it (how the polybar module does by default)

- Small bluetooth detector script (checks if bluetooth is on or off, and if it's connected to anything)

- Wrote another script to turn my screen's backlight off when the lid closes and back on when it opens again (literally just finished this one maybe 5 minutes ago)

- Finally fixed an issue with the volume level module on my polybar config, where it increments in levels of 5%, but it would always be on like 94 or 89, rather than 95 and 90 (weird to explain)

Pretty accomplished with myself, they were all minor differences that most people wouldn't really think about, but I'm happy about them.

Do you have a favorite status bar app? I have been using polybar since I switched to bspwm in December, and I've been really happy with all the customizations and plugins you can write for it, but I just wonder if anyone has been using any other bars that do something they really love.

That moment when you're away from home and you're performing a fucking system update (upgrade?) on fucking Gentoo and your fucking Chromebook can't fucking connect to your fucking computer at home running fucking Arch to offload fucking compilations over fucking SSH and fucking Polybar tells you that the fucking RAM is almost full and that both of your fucking Broadwell CPUs are fucking 100% on usage and even fucking Vim can't open your fucking work to add the fucking documentation for a fucking assignment from a fucking online course due today and everything's fucking stopped in time but the fucking window manager is still working normally?!!!!

In the past couple weeks I've switched from openbox to bspwm, and I am in love. The tiling is whatever, but I love the granular control bspwm offers for monitors, desktops, and nodes(windows). I love running extremely customizable apps like sxhkd, polybar, and picom to make it my own. Anybody else around here using bspwm?

I started a rice after 3 years of happily using KDE, and apparently everything uses CSS for styling now? I'm not complaining, Polybar offered like 4 options and we just played around with glyph fonts, compared to that this is a joyride.

Also, Eww is brilliant. I've seen people make full fucking UIs and custom notification centers and shit with it. I don't have that much time on my hands, but the option is there. All this with janky Lisp and Sass.

Eww also confirmed a suspicion of mine regarding Orchid; language adoption is a matter of convenience. I can get people to learn my language by offering cool trinkets and useful tools to people who have a predisposition to learning. Yuck is an aptly named language but it's not totally unusable, and because I had to learn it to make my status bar I'm now more inclined to write the corresponding scripts in it as well and I'm actually quite disappointed that I have to use Bash for that.
