I don't understand why every non-technical person who comes to do work in my apartment messes up my fucking router.
The cleaning lady - multiple times knocked the antennas partially off. Like fucking clock work. I don't get it, why is the cleaning lady attracted to my router antennas and why does she need to be so hard on them? Whatever.
The most ridiculous episode was today. And it wasn't the cleaning lady. I had a few people here doing some work today and the woman in charge who was here informed me before that they might have to move the furniture "a little."
I come home, and like a bad omen, the plastic parts on BOTH my router antennas are missing. Completely gone. It's just the the wires. Now, the router still works fine in my tiny apartment, but it is a fancy Asus router (I learned the hard way not to buy cheap routers) and I'd like it to not have fucking wires as antennas.
I email the woman (paraphrased):
Me: hey, it seems the antennas got knocked off my router, do you have any idea where they might have went?
Her: Apologies if we didn't put everything back (no shit you didn't, that's why I've had to email you). If we knocked the antennas off the router (fucking "if"???? I literally just told you in my email that they were knocked off) , they are probably somewhere by the window on the floor (they weren't).
And I still haven't found them. Why the fuck do these people seemingly attack my router? I can't figure out what it is about it. You would think people would be more careful around electronics but naaah. Anyway, going to go keep looking for my router antennas.42
Just called Asus for a problem with my router, went to send them my systemlog.txt for analysis
"Oh we don't have an email you can send that to"
Me: "(me calling bullshit) let me talk to the tech team.."
"Hello this is the supervisor"
"Ya we don't have an email you can send that to, but we can use a different departments verification services to get a file from you, has to be a picture though"
Me: "What? I got a .txt file here, I just want to get it to you, does it really have to be a picture?"
"Has to be a picture or a PDF, we can't take txt files"
Me: "fkin.. srsly? Fine"
I can't believe Asus's system srsly. I think it's for virus protection, but viruses can be embedded in both picture formats and PDF, but not in txt. So wtf is going on lol15
Wrote some codes that uses your photos to compose an input image. Will post code later. Written in Python though. Also this is my dad. Also I wrote this in Yellowstone cuz I didn't like the view lol.21
Asus introduces dual screen laptop with touchscreen instead of keyboard. Just imaging programming with that
DISCLAIMER: it’s just a concept45
I love Asus Products but who thought it would be a good idea to have the POWER BUTTON right above the DAMN DELETE KEY!?!?!?!!?
I often press the FUCKING POWER BUTTON accidentally... GOD DAMMIT...25
Gavin: "Christina, so how bad is this? Be honest. Is this windows Vista bad? It is not iPhone 4 bad, is it? Fuck, don't tell me this is Zune bad."
Christina: "Sorry Gavin. It is Apple Maps bad."11
I see people posting setups so I will share mine. three 27" Asus monitors. left for viewing site, mid for code, right for db :)13
Wrote some code during the break that transform an image to the following styles, is it good enough to post on github?24
My main working laptop has delete button at the top right corner of keyboard just like the normal rest of keyboards on this planet. But some people think it is boring to be doing thing in consistent manner. And so they made this.
Result is 4 times involuntarily went into sleep mode. Gazillion times I swear I can tear the dick out of that genius who came up with this idea and swirl his brain around using said dick. If it was a girl, I'm gonna shove a durain up her vajayjay.
Oh BTW, both laptops brand is ASUS.19
Spent nearly a day to get this tiny laptop-tablet to work.
I got myself a second hand Asus T100TAF but Linux compatibility was far to be found. Online resources said I'd be very lucky if I'd even get the touchscreen or the WiFi to work.
I've been installing distro's all day and I finally have a working version!
Lubuntu with Budgie as desktop environment. Touchscreen works out of the box and some random person on the Linux mint forum linked to a github thing. Lost all hope already but this made the fucking WiFi work.
Can dock and undock it and it works great.
Thanks to all open source devs for this!19
Not code related, but.....
When you open a pron site and see this
Guess I should save the planet instead of jerking off11
Finally finished my AMD Watercooled build 🤤

So I was applying for a research position in linguistic department, and had the interview today.
Prof: So you know excel right
Me: (show a project to him to prove I at least know csv file)
Prof: Ok so you know excel.
Me: Yeah kinda.
Prof: Ok that's good. Cuz right now we are using amazon Turk, and the data they returned, which are excel files, are not really the way we want it.
Me: Ok sounds like a parser can fix it......
Prof: Yeah.... the students in the lab are doing it manually now
Prof: Ok move onto next matter7
You want to write a minus? No, better turn off the computer. What did you do to us, asus...
Ps: note where did the num lock gone. You have to press fn+home to get numlock enabled. But better have awesome rog key instead of numlock so you can randomly open it's software.15

How to from hapiness 100 to 0 in seven simple steps:
1. Buy a new 2018 gaming laptop..
2. Install Linux on it for work..
3. Figure out your touchpad is not supported even by latest kernel rc..
4. Spend four days going through forums, bugzillas and overflows while messing around with recompiling kernel, drivers, configs and 3rd party libraries..
5. Lie down and pray someone will add support for your device in kernel in near future..
6. Try not to cry..
7. Cry, cry a lot..11
My laptop battery finally died, it’s been 4 years. Damn gotta spend some money to get a replacement one. Did you guys think we could get a genuine replacement from the vendor? It’s ASUS brand21
So 10 months ago i moved from Cambridge (UK) to Guildford (UK), due to moving this distance i started working from home and going into the office once a week.
Now after 10 months i have finally got my home office how i first imagined it. Everything runs from my laptop which is located on the shelving unit away from my desk. Everything plugs into it via 1 USB lead.
27" 2560 x 1440 monitor flanked by two 1280 x 1024 monitors.
Asus Laptop (i5-6300HQ, 12GB ram, 512GB SSD + 1TB HDD)
Home PC (i5-7600, 8GB ram, GTX 770)
StarTech USB hub - This allows me to plug my three monitors, keyboards, mouse and everything else into my laptop.
KVM switch - Allows me to swap between my Work PC and Home PC with a click of a button14
So one of the things I was sad about leaving the old company for was the company provided laptop. I was able to pick it out and it is a nice Asus Zenbook Pro about 2k, was gonna pick one up for personal use as soon as I saved the money.
On my last day, my boss approaches me with an offer to consult for the company after I leave and let me keep the laptop while I consult.
My consultation is open ended and I setup 10hrs a month retainer so I get paid every month regardless if they use me or not.
I also have my new job. (luckily they didn't have a no compete clause on hire)
So life is really good right now.
Oh yeah and I have successfully quit smoking to boot. (going on week 5)7
Trying to install Ubuntu onto my newly acquired Asus T100.
It's hardly compatible with Linux but after tweaking around I did get it to boot with Ubuntu 16.04.
I'm actually quite nervous 😅
But leaving windows on that poor thing would be a no-fucking-go so I hope this will save it.22

I wish there is such thing as branch in a relationship. So that whenever a couple are having a fight, they can create a branch and work their shit out in that branch and eventually merge to the master branch.
That just costs.... more conflicts3
Remember last week's build I randomly popped in between the rant feed?
Here's what it ended up being like!21
My laptop was not able to boot unless plugged in because of malfunctionning built-in Intel Anti theft technology.
Turns out its deprecated and there is a software available to remove it
So I installed windows to be able to run it but it was not working no matter what.. Turns out it was also deprecated and not supported anymore, so there is no way to remove the faulty anti theft system..
I sent my laptop to ASUS so they could find a way to remove the software and I got the reply "we will have to change the motherboard, it will cost $600"
No way I am paying this much for something that was supposed to be a software problem so I asked them to cancel and send it back
Now I got it back and its not even booting anymore and theres a few screws missing
Finally installed Ubuntu and successfully configured the wifi setting, any package I should install?31
3 person help desk shop for 450 users. One of my tasks is procurement.
Customer: we need a portable monitor that takes up less desk space than the one you typically have us buy
Me: at the conference last week we displayed the upgraded model of that portable monitor which takes up half the desk space. It’s $250 instead of the $150 that you normally would pay.
Customer: that ones too expensive, find me something else.
Me: unfortunately not too many companies make portable monitors and since AOC is unreliable in quality we have been recommending Asus, who only makes those two models that I’ve shown you.
Customer: I want the AOC one anyways. You shouldn’t have shown the more expensive one because now my staff want it and I can’t get it. If everyone can’t afford it you shouldn’t have it available.
Me: I understand your frustration, we have recommended that more expensive one as an option for people who have special accommodations for eye care and as an alternative if people dislike the current model. Since it’s not required that you purchase it and since we do have a much less expensive option we will continue to recommend it. As for the AOC one we will allow you to purchase it but will not be supporting or repairing it.
Customer: Can we get this instead? *sends link to $989 pre tax off brand version of Razer Project Valeria*5
Doing linguistic research where I need to parse 2000 files of a total of 36 GB. Since we are using python the first thing I thought was to implement multi threading. Now I changed the total runtime from three days to like one day and a half. But then when I checked the activity monitor I saw only 20 percent of the CPU usage. After a searching process I started to understand how multi threading and multi processing works. Moral of the story: if you want to ping a website till they block you or do easy tasks that will not use up all power of one core, do multi thrading. If you need to do something complicated that can easily consume all the powers of a single CPU core, split up the work and do multi processing. In my case, when I tried to grab information from a website, I did multi thrading since the work is easy and I really wanted to pin the website 16 times simultaneously but only have 4 cores. But when it come to text processing which a single file will take 80 percent of cpu, split it up and do multi processing.
This is just a post for those who are confused with when to use which.12
What a shame with asus. You open a new bought laptop and you see some bunch of CDs but your laptop doesn't have the CD reader. Priceless... :)3
This is my desktop setup reveal 1 of 2, I wasn't sure about the monitor stand (which is why I only got the 2-arm) but really love the extra space it gave me.
3 screens help a whole lot, hardware is a bit outdated but it works for at least low end VR development.
my specs are (if anyone cares):
gtx 970 (surprisingly great for vr)
asus z97 mark 2
Now here comes my first zsh shell plugin. Its called dogesay and it will repeat your command with much, wow, nice...14
I didn't even know what photography is a month ago. Then I was going on a road trip with my girlfriend so I bout a camera. Didn't read the manual just watched bunch of videos and realized it was just tuning parameters. Now I'm the master.6
Do you ever go into a public space and see everyone with their dell xps, acer swift 3, asus zenbook, msi gaming laptops, and then pull out your cheap af heavy plastic laptop and think to yourself:
"Why aren't I rich?"10
So I had to buy a laptop
I had a Lenovo G50-70 (2014) it was really good, mid-range i5, 6GB of RAM and to speed it up I've installed an SSD. 3 years (and some formatting) later it started being slow, I couldn't even play Minecraft anymore (and the battery was dying)
This year we're learning and using PCs for the first (real) time, so I needed a good laptop.
I started searching everywhere, Google, shops, Amazon... (Excluding HP and Acers for good reasons 😂) so I've found this Asus, which isn't really famous, but the model is UX510UX.
FHD display, Nvidia 950M, i7-7500U, really good battery, 8GB of RAM, 1TB of hard disk
I bought an additional 128GB M.2 SSD from WD (I'm sorry but I can't live with a HDD 😂)
All of this for ~700€
I'm very happy for the purchase, the laptop is all metal (pinky bronze, but I like it)
It's really powerful, I can play GTA with mid-high details without any lag. (Remember, I play GTA on the desktop with a 1080 Ti so my standards are high)
I'm happy 😄!22
So, finally after a very long time, I get a new keyboard (Ok, the previous one is 35 years old..), so lets see how technology has progressed in that time shall we..
First off, I'll need to plug it in..
Mm.. no spare USB ports..
No problem, I'll just go on Ebay, and buy some more !
They are expensive aren't they..
No problem, I'll buy this older cheap one..
When it arrives, I find out its wired up differently to what I need, so..
Rewire it, which takes ages of course.
Not having the best soldering iron, or anything really to hold the work with (Where did that rusty thing with lots of clasps go I had earlier!) and the only piece of wire I could easily find is covered in black goo, oh well, we can clean that off our hands afterwards..
Now, to plug in the new USB ports, I have to take out half of the inside of my PC..
So... that takes a while.
I seemed to have disturbed something, since now it wont' boot and complains of floppy drive error..
As a temp fix I unplug the floppy drive and disable it in the BIOS.
Now it boots..
Lets install the driver/etc.
Antivirus software pops up, is unhappy about a file in the driver !
Google about it..
Install an earlier version of the software.
Run application, it works !
Adjust colours from pulsating make you seasick colour scheme to solid damp colour.
Reboot to see if colour sticks..
It does !
Place keyboard on desk in just the right place..
No I mean, it moves about, from front to back !
Why is it not flat !!!
Actually, I forgot to mention I need blu-tak anyhow, to keep the two halves together, since it hasn't got a locking mechanism to hold the numberpad to it..
It's a 80/20 keyboard, or I should say, a 20/80..
So, what else do I not so much like about it..
Well, the font is too small !
It's way smaller than my previous keyboard and I really need to put my glasses on to read it...
Unlike my previous one, which was designed for old folk with less than perfect eyesight !
And the cable..
It comes out the back, in the middle..
Not the back and to a side..
And it leaks light everywhere !
It needs a skirt / cover around the keys..
(3D printer time.. which could also help hold the numberpad in place at the same time !)
Keys are rated for what, 50 million clicks or something, so should last me till I die..
Assuming something in it doesn't fail before then..
I guess no one does replacement key caps for it with a bigger font then..
So, the perfect keyboard still hasn't been invented yet !
Maybe in a few years I might design my own then..
Oh the keyboard, its an Asus ROG Claymore:
A couple more issues..
The capslock key is too wide..
The enter key is too wide..
So, how does it feel / sound compared to the old IBM Model M I used before..
It feels newer..
Maybe not so loud.
Though I'm pretty sure, everyone complains about blue keys being loud. :-)
It should be a little kinder on my fingers, need a little less pressure too.
And I now have this huge space on the right for the mouse to play !
(I got a new mouse recently too !)
News : Congratulations, your Asus phone has Pie upgrade.
Others : Wow, finally new features. 📲📷
Me : Oh fuck, new bugs 🐛3
Just bought one of those ASUS routers. And damn have I been missing out!!! This speed and connectivity range is beyond anything Inhave owned before!22
I have to confess. I'm a distro hopper. I've been a distro hopper ever since last year, and it got me tired. I spend entire hours checking distrowatch, partitioning, setting up hardware and drivers and passwords... I've tried to stop, I swear, but every time I do, there goes a new Solus release, an Openbox Debian based new branch, a forensic floppy disk that I know that I won't ever use for real. I just love assigning swap, fighting with rEFInd icons, testing modules, navigate trough different configs... Oh God, I even set up a virtual OpenBSD, just to see what it can do.
My friends have been telling me to stop, because I don't take care of our relation, that I'm becoming a monster. It's shameful and embarrassing to me when they ask me about my day and I say "you know, installing Manjaro on my desktop, and Lubuntu to that crappy old Asus I have for backups" I think I'm going to lose my head some day, this sickness is driving me straight down to the Slackware pits. I should stop it before I try Ratpoison environment but truth be told; I mean not to stop. I'm a distro hopper.
I ride my way live, unstable and restless.6
Asus have now decided that a removable battery is a feature people do not need anymore on a powerful laptop.
My battery or charger had a fit and blew the fuse on my charger and broke the battery, and now I have to send my laptop back because they can't send me a new battery, as replacing it myself would void the warranty.
Please for the love of all that isn't completely retarded, nobody start taking more pages out of Apple's book, even some completely non-technical people could handle changing a battery before, this benefits no one.
To make things worse, I'm on holiday right now and leaving the country for a year a few weeks after I get back, so if they can't get it back to me fast enough, I won't have the laptop for the whole bloody reason I bought it for, just because some smart arse designer has clearly never owned a laptop in their life.2
Just purchased my work machne on yesterday 😍😍😍 It's so gorgeous, been dreaming about it for the last 6 weeks. It's the Asus ZenBook 3 Deluxe. I waited that much because its release date was in mid May, but it was only available for purchase in late May/Early June11
Companies think that Indians are so stupid that they are trying to sell their phone by depicting that the NOTCH is a Fucking FEATURE 😭😖😠😡.26

also worth mentioning that gnome plays well with toutchscreen 😎
this puppy is gonna serve me well8
Finally my dad buyed new router after telling hit to for over a year !!! Well Configured it and it was OK but USB speed was 2MB and WiFi speed was three time slower then promised by ASUS then i realized there is custom firmware flashed it and boom i got fucking 12MB/S on USB 2.0 !! and 4 times faster WiFi so dear ASUS STOP putting SWW that BLOCKS the HWW.
The office PCs are finally done 😌 Real beauties I think! 😊

Idk if anyone here noticed.... sudo sounds like 速度 in Chinese, which means quickly. So the every time I use this command I just feel like I'm rushing computer to do something for me5
So I finished my first semester in NYU as a CD master. During the first semester I took a class called heuristic problem solving. Every week a competitive game will be introduced to us, and will be played in two weeks. And trust me, the games aren't easy. I teamed up with another guy who I had no idea was and named our team as we don't know. At the end of the semester we won seven out of nine games, and by won I meant that we beat the whole class in the match. And my teammate became a really good friend.
By telling this story, I want to make a point. I love problem solving, and not problems in a algorithm book where you apply an algorithm and do some trick to solve it, but real world problem where you hope for the best and anticipate, predict your opponent's move. However, American's school system doesn't teach that.
When I applied to graduate school, no school wanted me because I have an average GPA of 3.6, and no outstanding achievements. I can solve problems in my dream becaus I have an active mind, I can propose solution to a project one month before my teammates realized they essentially were doing what I told them the solution should be. But so what, I can't write those on my application.
One of the professor told me that my professor shared the story of my team during a faculty dinner, and they were very impressed by our achievement. So I guess I'm not dumb. But after all, companies and schools will look at your transcript and decide who you are.
I love myself for having random thoughts all the time that can lead to innovative problem solving. But I also hate myself for not able to study like the good kids are.10
Old setup vs new setup! Is the new one better? Got a mechanical keyboard and a mousepad from Sharkoon, a new retro lamp and a ryuk pop figure :) I also just bought a Zenwatch 3 by ASUS. I wonder if I can make any personalized apps for it. It will arrive tomorrow lets see.Do you have/use/like smart watches?16
So one year ago, when I was second year in college and first year doing coding, I took this fun math class called topics in data science, don't ask why it's a math class.
Anyway for this class we needed to do a final project. At the time I teamed up with a freshman, junior and a senior. We talked about our project ideas I was having random thoughts, one of them is to look at one of the myths of wikipedia: if you keep clicking on the first link in the main paragraph, and not the prounounciation, eventually you will get to philosophy page.
The team thought it was a good idea and s o we started working.
The process is hard since noe of us knew web scraping at the time, and the senior and the junior? They basically didn't do shit so it's me and the freshman.
At the end, we had 20000 page links and tested their path to philosophy. The attached picture is a visualization of the project, and every node is a page name and every line means the page is connected.
This is the first open project and the first python project that I have ever done. Idk if it is something good enough that I can out on my resume, but definitely proud of this.
PS: if you recognize the picture, you probably know me. If you were the senior or the junior in the team, I'm not sorry for saying you didn't do shit cuz that's the truth. If you were the freshman, I am very happy to have you as a teamate.2
FUCK.... My laptops LED screen just got a dead px stripe.... And the bad thing is that it is allmost in the middle of the screen.... Oh and it is 60px in length and about 3 px in height!!! And no signs of physical damage to the screen.... so they just died!!!!
And the warranty ended 3 months ago..... Fuck you ASUS!3
After talk to the professor I'm working for
Professor: well, take a break.
Me: take a break? I have to report to you next week during spring break and you just released an assignment.
Professor: well but you have three weeks for the assignment.
Me: inside: but you said start early on the assignment
Professor: take a break4
So, I got my very first gaming laptop on March 2015. Took a break from the almighty PC Master Race.
It's an Asus ROG G751JT. It was doing great, running my favourite games at 60FPS on high-ultra settings.
Few months after purchasing it, I've been getting a lot of BSODs with the same error (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL)
As told by the guys at a local forum, I was told to try replacing the RAMs and I was stupid enough, I did. It has 4x 8GB HyperX Impact DDR3L.
The error still won't go away until I changed my SSDs. Which worked for a while until a week ago.
Getting the same BSOD countless times. This time I decided to directly talk to an expert, which is a friend of mine and guess what. It was the motherboard after all. Spent a lot of $$$$ to fix ONE BSOD.
Now I'm stuck with an Asus T100TF for about a month because I had to send it for warranty claim.
smh jfc anasmy y u so stupid for a year and a half. 10/10 worst experience (since it involved a lot of money)
What do you think of my stupidity? Comment below (10 marks).8

Time to install some virus scanner 😲
The Asus bloatware software updater was hijacked to install malware.12
About a year ago, I started a new position as a Full Stack Java Developer. When I started my employer got me a brand new, shiny, Asus laptop. As I prefer Linux (mint) to perform my magic I had to whipe Windows 10 and reinstall it. It turned out that my new shiny laptop was in fact so shiny that Linux (mint) didn't support/contain all the necessary drivers (yet), especially the network/bluetooth drivers and the gfx's drivers turned out a bit of a pain.. Over the year things slowly got better with every new kernel update that came in. However, due to me trying to fix things before those updates, Linux also had become somewhat unstable.
So ... last week I took some time to re-install that laptop and also take the opportunity to upgrade from Linux mint 18 to Linux mint 19 ... or so I thought ... Linux mint 19 was running (very) hot to the point where the laptop would shutdown due to the MOBO's thermal protection mechanims kicking in. ... Ok ...maybe Linux mint 19 was not such a good choice .... let's see if Ubuntu 18.04 is an option ... Nope ... Linux would lock up within a minute after booting up ... no mouse, no keyboard ... nothing. .... *sigh* ... let's (re)install Linux Mint 18.3 again ... and behold, I can start performing magic again.
Linux, it can be such a pain at times. I still prefer it, but running into all those 'weird' things on my laptop when reinstalling, I have to admit I have seriously considered 'just' installing windows 10 again and be done with it. Luckily I could also remind myself of what a pain Windows is to do serious docker/java development in comparison to Linux which gave me the strength to keep going ... :)8
How ryzen 5 2500U works:
CPU: I want power because im running at full speed.
GPU: But i need power too because im running fucking GNOME.
*/Fight starts and GPU always wins and CPU clocks down to 2.90Ghz./*
So dear Acer maybe next time do some fucking tests running CPU at full speed because as i see it 15W isnt enough for both of them.
Increasing TDP to 25W takes it to god level.
CPU has no issue running at 3.07Ghz at GPU usage.
So please check you fucking shit.
As its kind of sketchy solution to increase the TDP and while AMD states that running it at 25W is normal as some OEMs use it normally at 25W it isnt the best to edit ACPI tables to make it like that.
Im waiting for ASUS to release their FX505 or what ever the laptop is named with Ryzen 5 3550H and RX560X.
Im gonna most likely sell this one and buy the other one as that 30W TDP makes much much more sense.20
So I have the new Mac book pro for 8 months now, always thought that the butterfly keyboard issue will never happen to me.
Until three days ago I noticed my space key is kinda sticky.
I have an external monitor so I don’t recall any time I spill water or food directly on the keyboard.
So I made an appointment for a walk in.
BUT this morning, I was like: man, fuck this shit and smashed the space key.
Now it’s fixed.
Medium long story about POP!_OS
TL;DR : A true K.I.S.S. OS. Very well designed UI. In general suitable for everyone. Any distro-hoppers MUST try out. If your current OS is already heavily customized to your needs, DON'T bother with POP. (Read till the end if you are on toilet, nothing to lose)
Backstory : I am never a fanboy of anything although I am loyal to the tools I use daily. So OS is also something I picked and use to meet my needs except when I was a student. My first linux experience was about a decade ago with ubuntu. Have tried almost all kinds of light-weight and minimal distros after that (lubuntu, arch, mint, puppylinux, fedora, centos and others I forgot) during my student years.
I like all things minimal. ("Keep It Simple Stupid" is my email signature.) When I started working, Windows became the sole OS I use since it met my needs better than others. Except that one time when I tried Elementary. Although I found it a good OS, it didn't get installed as a dual-boot. I don't find Elementary minimal. It is one of well designed OSs but I still think it can be improved. (Plus I had this weird feeling that it is similar to Mac OS)
At the start of this year, Widows alone was not enough for my needs. Decided to look for a minimal linux distro. My old i7 ASUS has 8GB RAM and roughly 250GB free storage. So I am not that worried about hardware requirements. My main struggle is downloading stuffs. (Few of you guys must know by now the speed of my internet LOL.) Well, even if I had a good speed, I will still look for minimal distro as first priority. So I went with minimal ubuntu image and xubuntu environment. Although I do not like the UI design, it is acceptable. Through out the years, I have configured it to suit my needs and currently pretty happy with it.
Thoughts on POP!_OS : To me, it is literally like meeting a young girl who is perfect for my life. She has the perfect body, beautiful face, amazing appearance and good manners. And she is young, of course there is a lack of experience issue. But it can be taught and she has a very high chance to become a wonderful lady if she continues like this. Only crap is I already have someone and in a committed relationship. So I could not go any further than introduction. I do save her contact and will keep in touch with her online. You know? Things change. Things always change somehow.2
So, apparently upgrading the firmware of certain routers can make 60 Mbps connections drop down to 5. GG D-Link! Fuck you! I wish I could still use my Asus babe with this new fiber line. :(4
Passionate programmer attends one of the toughest interviews ever and solves lot of algorithmic problems coding in different programming languages. Back with more features now!
Cuz I don't have anything to do at work

Upgrading RAM in a customer's laptop, pretty easy, right?
Well not in the Asus VivoBook Max. You have to disassemble everything just to get to the slot under the motherboard because it was too hard to put a fucking hole in the bottom for that. 20 minutes to complete the job and you know what? I also managed to break a flex cable so now I have to fix that or buy a replacement for the whole keyboard/mousepad assembly.
How do you reply to multiple people in a rant without having to mention their names explicitly?
Click reply on the first person, go back, click reply on the next person, go back and so on!7
Since everyone is showing off their setups here is mine:
OS: Windows (for gaming only), Kubuntu (Main Distro), Linux Mint (Sidechick Distro :D)
HDD: I have 3 with about 3.5 Terabyte alltogether
8 GB of RAM
AMD FX 6300 processor
ASUS R7 370 4GB STRIX graphics card
Yeah its an alright PC :D The next one I build will be a beast though. For sure.
Oh and I have a HP Laptop with 8GB of RAM and some Intel CPU. Its alright for coding when I am not at home.12
This is true incident.
I fried the motherboard of my new Windows 10 Home ASUS UX303UA laptop having 8 fucking gigs of RAM and 1TB HDD with dedicated Nvidia Graphics Card and video memory by just trying to repeat what I love to do which is :
Install and play Crysis on EA Origin paid channel
Install and program on Linux VM using Virtualbox
Listen to music
I am so fucking scared now that I am not going to repeat it again.
I fuck the fear of using such machines.21
I thought I'd ask a question about a keyboard I was interested in buying..
But they want my date of birth !
Dear customer, to protect a child’s privacy, we will not collect the information of a child. This information includes the necessary data for ASUS to provide warranty services of your ASUS product, therefore the support given over this help desk will be very limited. We will suggest your parent or legal guardian to request the support service for you!
Reminds me of years ago when I was buying some bedding at a shop, and they wanted my full name and address !
I was paying in cash for goodness sake !
They appeared quite annoyed when I gave my details as:
123 Aardvark Drive
And now you can't ask a simple question about a keyboard without being given the third degree !
Life was already difficult when I was a kid, now if you are one, life got more difficult.
So far, just trying to find out what versions of keyboard they do, as suppliers don't want to open up their boxes to take a picture for me, and all the websites have the same default image, rather than country specific keyboard.
I want to know, as different country layouts have keys in different places, and I want one with the keys in specific places, not necessarily the keyboard for my country !
No I don't want an Earth Keyboard, I want a Mars one !5
Got an older GPU (Asus EN8600GT) and already have cause for it.
Let's get mining some cryptocurrency :)))))7
This is getting WAY out of hand.
So I pay for 100/100 internet right.
I get 3/17...
This has been happening for half a year now...
The closest other ISP is 200km away......
Gonna confront them but they're probably just gonna blame my 2 year old 200$ asus router for being "too old"/"too slow".
After the whole Asus issue, my ThinkPad finally arrived. Finally (after about a week being held by UPS) Time to pick some stickers to put on this thing.11
I'm freaking done trying to get Linux on my machine. I've tried every distro with many different versions of the kernel and I always run into the same problem on my desktop.
The computer super stutters for 2 seconds ish than freezes.
I've spent DAYS looking into this issue trying to find something. The worst part is that it can happen 5 minutes when I boot or 5 hours. At first I thought it was Compton. Then I thought I installed arch wrong. Maybe an update to the BIOS? How about downloading updated microcode? Maybe this obscure bug with AMD processors and setting power idle to typical? Nothing. I'm now behind on my school work because of the massive amount of time ive spent getting this fixed. It works just fine on my laptop, but it doesn't work on the machine I built to code with. I'm done. Give me Force Lightning, a red lightsaber, and call me a Sith baby because I'm joining the dark side. Here I come Windows.
For those who are wondering my setup:
Ryzen 7 1700
Asus x-370 prime
16 gb Corsair RAM
And no, Windows has never had this bug.31
More of a rave than a rant.
My Dad was having some trouble with a game disconnecting on the PS4 and he read somewhere that it might be a problem with our home router. I didn't think it would be, as every other game works fine. But there was no talking him out of it. And to be fair the current router WAS kind of old.
So I have a look at the one he's decided to buy and it's some massive triple-antenna beast for well over a hundred pounds. I felt like such a weapon might be overkill for 2 people in a house, but did say that it would definitely help with connection issues in some rooms and I kind of wanted to play with it.
So he got it and oh am I glad he did. It has so many fun toys, including a built in VPN. Right now I live abroad so there's a few services I used at home that I can't access, I was literally just considering buying a vpn the other day. I found this while setting up port-fortwarding for my Raspberry Pi to run a discord bot I'm building. I had condisered putting a VPN server on the Pi but this works too!
It also has built in DDNS from ASUS, which IS cool, but our IP hasn't changed in years so I'm not sure we'll need it. I set it up anyway just in case though!4
When your professor invented the subject and you don't understand his lecture so you go online and search for the term and all you found is his slides from other universities when he was a professor over there.4
Lab needs a crawler to download some assets, none of my business though
But why not
Haven't touched crawler for two years
Google for latest state of art
I have to define a class for a crawling script?
Went back to beautifulsoup and request
Got the job done in 20 mins
Got a new motherboard today, a Asus crosshair vi hero, AM4 for amd ryzen.
Bought is as broken / defective, it supposedly works except 2 ram slots should not get detected.
On a closer look, the story of water-damage didn't seem right.
Disassembled everything and took another look.
😲😨 "Is that solder tin? What the actual fuck?"
*Scratche it with tweezers
*"Supposed solder tin" becomes liquid and moves
😱 "The fuck that's liquid metal"
😵 Who the fuck sprinkles liquid metal all over a board?
😳Ryzen is solderd why the fuck should someone use liquid metal?
What the heck16
Linux doesn't like my Asus laptop
For fuck's sake stop asking me to login again when I put in the correct password, cannot even sign in as a guest jeez
Never. Partitioning. Again.9
Facebook. The only reason I still have a FB account is the groups - house rental, student buy\sell groups etc.
Microsoft for Windows 10 - some things are good but generally it really sucks capybara balls (too bad for me - I'm an avid gamer).
Also Asus and Razer for overpricing their shit. And Razer have the most dumbassest names for their products.
Oh and Apple of course - I love their products and I'd love to buy and use some of them, but I hate their scummy policies and customer treatment too much.
Never wrote a website before
Wanted to write a website for myself just for PhD application.
Learned Vue on Saturday and wrote the website in three days.
Conclusion: fuck css
I can post the website if anyone is interested to take a look though17
Asus does not know how to implement a button that is also a fingerprint scanner,my phone keeps closing all apps cuz my fingers are sweaty(the button isnt actually clickable it just senses...My sweat smh)4
Ubuntu, Openbox, vim, duckduckgo, Gmail, mailgun, digitalocean, xterm, libvirtd, remmina, polipo, insomnia, ulauncher, copyq, nextcloud, rofi, ssh, bash, Firefox, Firefox-Dev, Vivaldi, steam, itch, git, proton, wine, vlc, cherry mx brown and black, android, mint mobile, Asus, amd, ubiquiti, and plex.
What's in your workflow?5
So I have a job at a client to fix their system because the last systemadmin fucked everything up. One of the things I need to do is let the boss work from home.
No problem. I set up a vpn connection to work and everything just works. Except that the home network had the same dhcp range so that had to change.
I login on the router and literally everything is fucking locked. I call them and they send me a new router same fucking problem. So we bought an asus router so I finally can fix it.
QUESS WHAT THE FUCKING GARBAGE DOESNT EVEN HAVE BRIDGE MODE. FUCK KPN AND THEIR MODEMS.1
PREBUILD PC? YEAH... BROKE AFTER A FUCKING YEAR... AN ASSFUCKED YEAR! HOW COULD SOMEONE BUILD SUCH A SHIT OF A MACHINE...
Oh well... saved the grafics card, HDD and SSD... time to get new Parts and build a custom one myself...
Warranty you say? No i tell you...11
Finally, fucking finally I fixed a damn bug that seems to be freaking popular on asus machines. This damn bug captures the fn keys needed to regulate the screen brightness.
All tools that display your keypresses didn't find them at all and I had a pretty tough time find the source of problem.
You can create as many arch memes as you want but you cannot deny that the they are truly MVPs imo.
Today I also:
* Fixed and refactored a bit of code
* added shortcuts for volume and keyboard backlight control
* Installed lots of fonts
* Got Steam to run
* Found out the meaning behind the Arch linux
* Felt disgusting using windows 10. Learned that 10 stands for the number of minuts before I must vomit 🤢
* Learned a bunch of linux stuff
But most importantly
Ohhhhh fucking bullshit.
I have an old Canyon router and i decided to install dd-wrt on it since i have it on my main one so why the fuck not.
To my suprise that bullshit is just ASUS rebrand.
Ok that isnt that bad.
The worst is that they dont released the firmware files so i dont have any other choice then to install it via serial connection.
Ohhh tftp doesnt work until you have serial connection.
Why firmware file matters ?
Because when you want to flash factory-to-ddwrt image it fails because of header.
Well and you get header from factory firmware or memory dump via serial. But well i could just install wrt on it when i have serial.
So FUCK you Canyon i hope you get what you deserve.
Not sure if many people heard about nltk in python but I'm currently using a lot now for research.
So one day I was doing multiprocessing while using lemmatizer in nltk, for those who don't know, lemmatizer is a thing that change the word to its base form. So it is like, ran to run, bitches to bitch.
Anyway, the nltk package, to ensure it does not take too much memory, here's what it does: it loads a data file, and once it is loaded and accessed for the first time, it breaks the data file into CSV file. And since I was doing multiprocessing, the data file is accessed for multiple time while it can only be loaded once, hence error happened.
Instead of changing my code, which I think is good already, I went to the package directory of nltk and directly changed the source code from there and now the code works perfectly.
I'm very proud of my self at the moment, this is a very good lesson that I've learned: always look for alternatives. And suck it, nltk.1
I recently upgraded my computer to a ryzen 1700x and 16gb 3600mhz memory and an asus rog crosshair hero vi board(From an 8350)
My pc ran soo smooth, games even more so
The games ran great, but my personal performance went down.
I didn't understand why. Im probably just losing my edge.
I trained and tried. But still, it felt off.
Today I realized that with my new motherboard, I got a new mac address. And my friend is a bit of a neat freak with that stuff. He has a whole system for ip addresses.
So i told him, I wont have the correct ip address. Then he started laughing and asked my to browse to a certain site www.privateinternetaccess.com
There at the top it said: "you are protected by pia"
Devices without an ip address bound to their mac address, will automatically use the vpn according to his rules.
My ping improved by 10-15ms upon getting my normal ip address back and my game performance is back.3
L1 support requested to terminate an EC2 instance on which one of our apps seemed to be misbehaving. The node was terminated after few min.
L1 later realized that that instance didn't belong to that app, but instead it was one of the RabbitMQ nodes.
Then, after some panicking we remembered that HA was enabled, so nothing should've been lost.
Later, we realized that the recent RMQ upgrade necessitated a new cluster on which HA was NOT enabled!1
My desk/room setup
An Asus A555LF connected to an Acer LCD Monitor and a Samsung Smart TV connected wirelessly(Intel Wi-di) dual boots to Ubuntu 15.04 and Windows 8.1.
Decisions, decisions, decisions
- Asus ZenBook
- Dell XPS
- ThinkPad X1 Carbon
Going to be programming, running Ubuntu nothing too power intensive but want the power there if need be. Plus I do love a solid build and keyboard. Thoughts?18
Me, or everybody else.
I have bipolar disorder, it’s not entirely a bad thing because sometimes my mind flies and bizarre ideas just flush into my mind, ideas that eventually prove to be useful. However, not everyone can catch up my thinking speed.
This year for my senior capstone project, I teamed up with other three brilliant students. In the middle of the project I proposed a very aggressive method when our initial model failed, but they couldn’t understand my method. Towards the end of the semester I basically finished the project alone and claimed that they were just repeating what I was doing, and they didn’t realize that until the last week. At the end, the guy who’s always in charge of the other two people said that I was right, that the very aggressive method could have worked if given them more time to think about it.
I am both relieved and sorry at that moment. I cannot explain my ideas and that leads to my teams confusion.
I am still the same guy now, haven’t changed, will still be a pain in the ass when work with other people, I tried to be patient, but idk if it was just me being too impatient or others are too dumb.
I really tried......6
Does anyone else feel like he is choking the device when holding a button to force reset/shutdown?
Or is it just me angry with my Asus notebook with Windows 10 that would keep the LED on after "shutdown"?3
I got my Asus ROG Strix 1070 OC today, and it needs an 8-pin pcie power connector, and my Cool Max 880 watt PSU doesn't have one. I. Can't. Believe. It. I. Have. To. Wait. Another. Day.4
Can't wait for this guy to arrive, were going to build some beautiful stuff together.
I had to return my Asus due to a screen defect.10
in case you don't know what Cloud Computing is, or if you'd like to know more about it, check out this video. https://youtube.com/watch/...2
Yesterday I finished off a clientbuild then I checked if it's posting and he picked it up.
Today he called my boss and said that it's saying no CPU fan.
I connected the aio on the aio fan header not on the one for the cpu.
Thanks Asus for that selfdescriptive
Labeling now I can sieve to the client and fix this on a Saturday.3
So I'm TAing this database class and we constantly need to use shell to edit text. I am hosting the workshop with another student, who is a vim user and I am an emacs user. During one workshop he wrote down the commands for editing and quitting vim, and I simply told them control x and controls s, then control x and control c. And the stdents are fucking complaining that is too many commands? Like, wtf? And this week when we are holding the workshop and we need to edit something so he said just open your favourite editor and a girl was like vim, vim, vim , the same girl who complained emacs is too many commands. Like I'm the total loser using emacs there. Get your shit together people omfg you brainless followers. No offense to vim users, this is just personal.1
Java devs, here is an ugly but handy REPL web frontend for you. JShell FTW!
Please note this uses Websockets, so not guaranteed to work on all browsers7
So I was in my linguistic workshop today where we were going over control and raising concepts.
Without second thought, I put down 'ctrl' for control. And the guy, who's also a coder, didn't find anything wrong when looking at my sheet.
I think my vocabulary is screwed up
Idont remember the rest of the problems5
Inspired by my professor’s rant about people don’t know how to google stuffs, I made a scriptable script to solve all those issues. It’s a super smart script that shows detailed step by step solution of how to tackle down a problem
Here is the repo:
Please try it out, you will love it, I promise
Disclaimer: I am not responsible for the ending of any relationship after using this script3
I've been using my laptop for only 6 months ... And suddenly the screen is completely black, but the touch screen still works (super weird). Kinda freaking out after paying more than 1k$ for it and it only worked for 6 months..... 😠2
I am thinking about building new PC, so I made a list of components. What do you think? Any suggestions?
I don't know which GPU model/brand to get yet. Would like to play at 1440p >60Hz so GTX1070 is not enough if I don't wanna buy new GPU in a few years (probably 4-5 years as I always do).
- CPU: AMD RYZEN 7 2700X
- GPU: GTX 1080 Ti / GTX 1080
- HDD: WD Gold 2TB
- SSD: Samsung 860 EVO 250 GB
- RAM: Patriot Viper RGB Series 16 GB KIT DDR4 3200 MHz CL16 DDR4 Black
- MB: ASUS ROG STRIX B450-F GAMING
- CAS: NZXT H500 Black
- PSU: Corsair HX75015
Ordered a new phone. It's called Asus zenfone pro m1.
I never had a phone that sounds this long.
And it has 6GB RAM. Few years ago I thought it would be ridiculous for phones to have more than 2GB and now here we are.
Hope it will serve me good, atleast spec wise it should.6
Asus critical update! Fucking handwriting recognition... So they're now employing the same tactics as criminals trying to get you to install a virus.
"Whoa, critical? I'd better stop whatever I'm doing and update, I sure am grateful that they tabbed me out of whatever unimportant crap I was doing before and shoved this popup in my face!"
-no one, ever
That shit is about as critical as birth control to a nun. Kindly fuck off with your pop ups and go work on something actually critical like my battery not exploding 6 months after buying it.
Thinking of getting a new laptop.
Lenovo v330 i7-8550u , 8GB DDR4
Asus vivobook s15 i7-7500u , 8GB DDR4
Which one ?17
Looking for a laptop < 1,000 € for running a clean install of Linux (i.e. no double booting or running a VM). Looking at Asus, HP and Lenovo. Do you have experience with any of these brands? I want something durable with a nice keyboard and screen, and something that will be the most compatible with Linux. So far the Asus ZenBook UX331UA sounds the best. Any other suggestions?2
After waiting for almost a month, yesterday I went to check on how my computer was doing, since I hadn't got any messages or calls ever since.
I go to the store and ask one of the workers about how my laptop is doing, and that I'd left it there almost a month ago and that they'd tell me when it was time to get the papers and then the laptop itself. The girl asks me for my phone number and then my name, and found nothing on the computer. She goes somewhere inside the store and comes back with a colleague, who tells me that I need a process paper. I pull out the receipt the technician photocopied and signed because that was the only thing I had. I hadn't touched that part of my paste for the whole time after I left the computer there and I was 100% sure I didn't have the process paper with me until he started pressing me for it. I kept repeating that the technician told me that they'd call or message me when said process paper was ready, which I hadn't got any of those to go pick it up. The guy asks me if that were the number and name I'd given the tech guy and I said yes. Both of them disappear into the store again. They come back with a cardboard box and say that the surname written there was wrong by a char (as I've said before my name is unusual, and my surname is also unusual where I'm studying, but where I'm from there's like 5 or 6 families with that surname), so that's why they couldn't find it in the computer. After that they went through all the details I gave on the time of handing the PC and the number they told me was there was off by miles. I think I may have said a wrong digit but that number was way off. There should be some person who got calls or messages about a computer they don't even own LoL
They told me to try it and see if it was running OK and that I had 15d to go back if something was wrong
When I got home I turned it on, afraid it would start dying on me again LoL
I pass the login screen and the fan just starts working really hard and I'm worried. The ASUS guys reinstalled Win8 and the CPU is running wild already, going at about 3,5 GHz (2,5 max) and over 30% usage on nothing
After some minor inconveniences (making the USB with Win10 took longer than expected) I finally installed Win10 and the CPU usage drops to < 10% and runs at way below the 2,5 GHz max. It constantly uses <= 10-15% CPU and the fan makes no noise unless I put in a heavier game (like Oxygen Not Included - it asks for 4GB RAM minimum 8I), in which case it goes up a bit and runs at around 3 GHz, but it doesn't make as much noise as before, thank jesus. I'm gonna keep trying to see how it does and hope I don't have to go back to the store after the next 15d 8I
I can finally work and not be a leech on my friends because my old toshiba - which I forgot I'd brought with me to uni - is really old and it makes a lot of noise (the fan is constantly working too much but it's so old I don't bother anymore) and it heats my room a lot, so it's gonna be a nice change of pace HaHa4
Asus. I had an asus laptop and everything was fine for a year, but after a year it stopped working on battery and their tech-support representative was really rude to me + they refused to fix it.7
Finally got these sexy stickies. Gonna put them on my ASUS bastard when its back from repairs.
Thanks devs ! Gonna spread the world.4
About every 2 years I try to adopt Linux full time. This might be my time.
Most likely to work seamlessly on Sony or Asus? Ubuntu or Centos?15
FUCK ASUS FUCK service centers
Fuck Asus. My laptop charger was not working and I called them. These fucking people asked me to get my warranty approved because according to thier database they only have manufacturing date. So they said send us the invoice and we will update it So they wanted me to wait 5 days to get an entry updated in their database. 😑😑 After this shit. I have to wait 7 days for a new charger. These people and Thier service it's shit shit shit4
Any ideas what to do with this old computer?
CPU: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5000+ 2.60 GHz
RAM: 5 GB
GPU: Nvidia GeForce 9800 GT
Motherboard: ASUS M2N-E SLI
HDD: 150 GB19
So today I went to a nearby computer shop to buy the Asus Vivobook 15.
Left that shop with not only the laptop and it's free bag, but also a free USB flashdrive, a free set of 6 glasses and a free set of casseroles!
Getting kitchenware items was the last thing I expected from a computer shop.
The sales lady was really nice too. I'm really glad I bought it offline than ordering it online, the price was same as well.4
So my linux system didn't have any audio output now while it worked days ago and I haven't installed any new package. I was working on this for at least two hours. Reinstall drive things like that and none worked. I thought to myself: do you really want a system without sound? I mean it's good for coding since you can focus knowing you cant watch video now since theres no sound. But do you really want it? No, I would rather reinstall it. So I closed my laptop, didnt shut it down, and searched for how to reinstall ubuntu in command line and reopened my laptop, and magically, the sound is back online...... I guess linux is more powerful than I have ever imagined.
So I saw an Asus laptop/powerhouse today with overclocked i7 64GB DDR4 RAM and two Nividia GTX1080.7
Load a medium post. Wait for the entire junk to download. Or stop the loading if you just want to read the text content
But Medium has other ideas. Hook to the cancel event, show a useless page which only has the reload link. And why would it trigger the HTTP 500 status code to be sent? 🤔8
So what's a good programming laptop anyway?
Just got a €1300 Asus at work. Beautiful machine, 4 cores, 16gb RAM,
BUT the trackpad sucks. Really sucks, as in you can't work with it. I'll be scrolling using two fingers, but half the time I just see the cursor going down. Is it only Macbooks that are decent in this field? Is my only hope to get a macbook and run Windows in boot camp? (rly need windows since my companies software is written in .Net9
My phone got stuck in funky restart boot loop yesterday. The first 2 restarts was odd but after 3 cycles, I started panicking. Went on my PC, googled for all kinds of button combinations of power button, volume button, back button, and home button to get into fastboot, recovery and safe mode to see if I can clear stuff or at least get backup of my stuff. I also tried taking the battery out. Nothing works, except when I factory reset.
Everything was new again and as it booted up, I have to remember to change my authentication keys in LastPass, my private ssh key in Krypt. But fortunately, Google remembered all my apps and suggested if I wanted to install them again since it recognized my phone was an old phone. Thanks for tracking me Google. And now since its a reset, everything is clean, no cache, cookie, and some of my music files are all gone. Well at least its fast like before.3
So I just finished a group project for a database class, it's an open project and we made a website that is basically like rate your professor. We spent tons of time on it and the website is finally settled. But that's not the point, I won't put the URL here, I just wanna say:
I fucking hate php. Fuck it.
Just fuck it5
Anyone interested in the new Asus ROG phone? It looks super thuggish, and is being marketed as a "gaming phone." I think it looks neat, but 6" is way too big for me, there's no sdcard, and no LTE bands have been listed yet.
But it comes with a really cool docking station, which to me, makes it an ideal parsec rig.
What do you think?6
That feeling when you insert the driver disk for a wireless adapter to find they actually do provide Linux drivers!!!!!
Nobody ever provides Linux drivers, this is a god send! Thank you!
That feeling when they don't compile correctly! Damn you! ASUS pls. Halp. You're so close to being amazing.
hi everyone just want your input planing to get a cheap laptop for development
Option1: Lenovo IdeaPad 330
Specs: Intel Core i3-7020U / 4GB DDR4 / 1TB HDD
Option2: Lenovo IdeaPad 330
Specs: AMD Ryzen 3 2200U / 4GB DDR4 / 256 SSD
Option3: ASUS X407UA
Specs: Intel Core i3-7020U / 4GB DDR4 / 1TB
im going cheapest as possible but it you guys think going to i5 would benefit more let me know19
When i once came to the crib of a random girl to bang her ofcourse she had an asus laptop and that laptop was about 17" screen I think, the specs were fuckin brutal and i was shocked, i wanted to touch it and find out more about the laptop and specs and gpu and what model was it and then i realized i came there to fck her but i was staring at the laptop like an asshole1
Developers switched from Windows to Macs because monkey-boy Ballmer claimed to want Developers whilst doing his best to drive us away - and Macs were a Unix laptop "That Just Worked".
Now we are going to have a MacBook "Pro" that doesn't even an Escape-key.
Great news for manufacturers of Windows ultrabooks - Asus and Dell must be rubbing their hands with glee!4
So this second hand laptop I got (Asus Transformer 3 Pro) had too many scratches at the back...
I'm not really a sticker guy, but I thought I'd give it a try.
Wow that looks ugly.5
So, a month ago I ranted about windows update, because I had to backup my virtual machine and windows killed it.
Well, Asus needed "only" 4 weeks to replace my fkn Mainboard and now I have my baby back 😄
OK. Now I deactivated the Windows update completely. 70gb, incoming!
Some hardware experts here? Looking to upgrade my PC soon, and would like some opinion on the parts I chose. I'm going for a minimalistic Mini-ITX productivity build, but gaming also.

my phone is dying. Very slowly, i see the first signs of decay, i probably have months or even more than a year, but it will die on me. I knew it will happen.
I currently have an asus phone (ZE552KL), it is technically DualSim or SD-Card, has a camera that is..badish and sometimes the bluetooth wont start and then it reboots. Also the camera has a pure software bug where it isnt able to ever focus properly, but with tricks you can get it to work again. The asus forums constantly refer to sending it to a repair station (wherever one is in germoney). That annoys me.
Back to dying. For now its definetly the battery.
I remember when you could change the battery on a whim. Great times. My last phone died duo battery aswell (well, the gps module broke aswell so it wasnt all flowers besides the battery).
My current asus phone was something around 300 € and according to reviews 2 years ago it has a good bang for the buck ratio.
I havent looked into the market, just a cursory glance. But apparently if you want a phone that has a decent battery life, is not basically a tablet, has an sd card slot and a camera that is not total rubbish it gets hard. Its hard to balance those things, and if you want a swappeable battery all hope is lost.
Further i have started to misstrust chinese phones, the asus software support is wacky and some stuff is weird. I suspect its as bad with huwai and all the others. Also its apparently kinda hard to get any resemblance of quality in accessoires for non-mainstream brands (i mean cases and display protection)
So i dread the future, the future in which i need a new phone that is somewhere in the mid price segments and fits my needs. In the end i will take something suboptimal and be unhappy with it till it dies.
I despise the phone market.5
Just got my new phone today. My old Huawei was acting up, so I replaced it with an island model: an Asus. Man, I have read lots and lots of horror stories about bloatware that came with the previous version of their skin, ZenUI. Their UX people must have been listening, because this phone came with fewer preinstalled apps than any phone I've ever had, and that includes a Nexus 5. And so far the only preinstalled apps I've had to disable are the default keyboard and chrome.
It's as close to AOSP as I've ever had without using a rom. I'm pretty stoked!
FUCK EMMC AND 32BIT UEFI WITH A BIG RUSTY POLE.
Wow that helped actually...
Now then... If anyone has any suggestions on how to actually boot Ubuntu after installation on Asus x205ta I will give them my first born son.
Hey guys! I want to purchase a new phone. I owned an Asus zenfone2 and was happy with it. I want and android phone with at least 4 gb of ram and a decent chipset. I am not interested in samsung s8 google pixel or such. I was looking into oneplus 3 or 5 or lg g6. Could you provide some suggestions?9
Holy shit. Its been like 3 hours to get this motherfucking PC boot from the pen.
Cant get the boot device menu, and Ive tried all the F keys and changed the boot drive.
The mainboard is an asus p5ql pro in case someone knows how to help.
I just want to install w10 on my ssd... fuuuuuuuck.4
Since some started posting pics of their work machines. Here's mine: an Asus ZenBook 3 deluxe. Nodejs dev.5
So I have question about my resume.
During my college time, I have done two projects related to politics:
One is to analyze the bias of media. What I did is scrape news covers for Trump and Hillary during election year and get sentiment analysis. The result is not surprising that among NY Times, NBC, Fox, Eashington Post, and CNN, Fox news is clearly favoring Trump, since Fox news is a republican news site.
The other project I did was to analyze the speech complexity and sentiment of the election. One of the observation we made was that Hillary and Trump are almost at the same level regarding speech complexity. However, Trump has a more positive sentiment in the speech, which is true consider how much he loves to say make America great again.
Now the question is, when I gave my advisor my resume, she said that I'd better not put those two projects on my resume since they are related to politics.
But, I am applying for a data science master degree. Seriously, I was just collecting the data and the data speaks for himself, why should I take those projects off my resume? I'm very proud of those projects I did as a matter of fact.
So here is the question. Shall I take off those two projects on my resume because they were political or I should leave it thereawarreally need some professional views. Please.1
ASUS thanks for putting the power off button on the top side of the backspace. I mean what could go possibly wrong you fuckin fucks!1
I'm looking forward to upgrade my gaming configuration but shit me I'm lost in all those references.
I'd like the best motherboard with the best i7 8th gen with the best 32GB rams, by best I mean the components that will give me the best performance, I've already got a 1080ti and my current motherboard is an Asus z170 pro gaming (if that helps with the dimensions or anything else).
If someone can point me to some references/names/websites I'd be happy.10
A friend was gifted a laptop recently. When we talked about it, the person mentioned that it's a snsv laptop. disappointed to not find a new brand but a good old ASUS instead
My new job is giving me a budget for getting a new laptop, looking for some recommendations on good programmer brands, somewhere in the neighborhood of $1800-$2000 USD (not including tax/shipping). I'm looking at the Dell XPS 15, beautiful screen but poor quality reviews. Also, looking at ASUS Zenbook line. Any thoughts on those brands? Any other brands I should look at? I need to run Windows natively, so MBP is out.14
RIP my fucking dog laptop. And FUCK Asus. The solution to fixing the fucking laptop is to get a new MB and display. But the motherboard is so God same expensive because you obviously have to solder every fucking component on it so that it's much more of a PITA.
PS yes I'm fucking angry but I hope y'all having a nice day.5
When I got at least 20 comments for a mid-sized changelist and managed to dodge/reject the suggestions provided. No questions asked further and it was committed!
Hey, is there a site where i can search laptops from every manufacturer, not just a shop specific one, where they only list the ones they sell?
Or alternatively, is there a 14" amd ultra-ish book that is not acer asus or lenovo?5
Is there a way to dynamically change your IP address while scraping website so that you don't get blocked cojstantly6
If you're working on integrating a 3rd party app, never trust their docs to be fool-proof. Not only are they erroneous, they keep changing too. Better try it and ask questions on their forums, even if it involves a little more effort and time.
Sorry for posting this, but I would like to know if you think that this notebook would be good for programming. I will put arch linux on it.
Asus UX31 0UA FC344T Laptop (Intel Core i7, 512GB, 16GB RAM, Intel HD Graphics/Win Home 10) Gold
In my opinion it should be pretty good. It has a decent processer, lots of RAM and a SSD . I won't use it for gaming so I don't think that the bad graphics card is a deal breaker.10
Freaking bitchass smartphone that decides to reboot out of FREAKING NOWHERE ! Are you trying to beat windows update ? Cause you goddamn did... freaking hell and if it wasn't enough i had to lose the freaking bigass text i was writing2
Decided on Acer Swift 3. Will be getting it soon. 14", i5-8250U, Nvidia MX150 2GB, 4GB DDR4, SSD 256GB. Added another 4GB. Final at $642.
Frankly speaking I am more of an ASUS fan. My potato used to be an apple in good old days and lasting for almost a decade is something I am very proud of it. I will still be using it as a backup PC at my home.
First ever laptop was an Acer and it was ok but didn't have fond memories since it didn't even last for 4 years 😐 Hope Acer has improved their quality in this 9/10 years time. 🤞4
That moment when can't root my Asus Android devices😬😬😬
(If there are some working on all devices methods of rooting - please write below)2
I finally got my new 1080p monitor set up. The only issue is... it's supportive of twice that? Somehow? It's an ASUS VZ229, which is supposedly only 1920x1080, but it's displaying at 3840x2160? Whuh?11
1. Unending relentless quest for learning
2. Linear memory capacity
3. Uninterrupted autohealing capabilities like sleep
I'm calling you out, Asus, fix your absolutely shitty piece of software or I'm never buying a motherboard from you again.
A little explanation: my PC woke up from sleep like this. On another occasion before I could take the screenshot, the CPU was sitting almost idle at 45 degrees C. The CPU fan senses that it has to spin up, but never actually does so.
I've had the opposite thing before - a case fan spinning up not wanting to spin down even if the temps are fine - which is preferable because it only causes a little bit of noise. But this here could potentially cause damage to the CPU if I put some load on it without looking at the temperature. I've partly remedied the issue by writing a batch script that kills and resets the fan control service and is triggered by Task Scheduler on resume from sleep - a thing every average Joe should do, right?
It's a shame for top-notch hardware to have to go together with such crappy piece of software. This is the X99 Sabertooth that cost me 450 EUR originally.16
"The more GPUs you buy, the more money you saved" - Jensen Huang. ASUS finally promoting GPU mining app on their RTX official webpage! Good luck with saving money!!!6
When you corner help desk people so much they end up saying their web app doesn't support Asus PCs2
After looking averywhere fo a charger for my i5 asus pro iv resorted to a universal charger, now i get a fuckin shitty pop up saying ...your charging attachment is not plugged in prroperly...not with linux 😡
Just bought a new, cheap laptop for travel purposes.
It turns out I cannot start Windows 10 without giving Microsoft my phone number or an email. And the installator asks me if I agree to allow the apps to use „advertisement id”. It doesn’t ask if I like rough pegging.
Luckily, there’s a lot of temp e-mail solutions and I happen to have internet access on my other devices.
Then I have to spend 20 minutes uninstalling all the crap Asus preinstalled on MY computer. Seriously, when did I order „Asus Giftbox” or McAfee virus? The Asus-crap deinstalator displays a screen where I am asked to create an Asus account.
Question to apple funboys: is the experience the same when you buy a new Mac?13
I recently got an Asus K53S for free, without HDD/SSD.
Im looking to purchase a cheap but kinda reliable and fast SSD, at 64GB or more. Money is an issue, and the laptop is just for pure fun, so id rather get bad quality and save some cash, rather than spending alot.
Does anyone know where i can purchase that, or have experience with cheap/trash SSDs? Any recommendations appreciated.
If its shipped from outside EU, the price should be $12 or less, and i doubt thats possible.38
Hey guys, I've recently purchased an Asus Laptop (i3 7100U - 2.4GHz, 4gb ddr4 , 1tb HDD, 15.6 FHD,). I've swapped HDD with an SSD ( Kingston 120gb) . Everything seems great, Laptop's performance is good, pycharm runs faster etc. However, when I shutdown the laptop, it takes nearly 3-4 minutes to shutdown. Restarting laptop hardly takes 30 seconds. The only problem is shutting down. I've tried everything, resintalled OS( windows 10 home (GPT partition)) , drivers and os are up to date, updated bios but there is no change. It still takes 3-4 minutes to shutdown. Any ideas?2
To all the devs that got their stickers + @dfox and @trogus: do the stickers adhere to uneven surfaces without leaving glue or bits of the sticker material behind? Because I've reached the amount of ++ needed to ask for my stickers (I'm gonna ask them around xmas time so it can be like a xmas present 😀 and also so my brother doesn't take them) but I don't know if I can safely stick them there and remove them if need be
My computer has this circular pattern around the ASUS logo and the area around the touchpad is also uneven, it has some grid pattern
I don't have any stickers on it so devRant's may be the first :D5
Back when I switched from a Asus netbook to a Acer notebook, I wanted to switch the laptop to sleeping mode, and thus I pressed the power button. I expected the computer to go to sleeping mode, but no. Acer liked to change the power settings. Ofcourse I hadn't saved anything of the thing I still had opened...2
Shall I switch to vs code?
I have been using sublime text for years and the sublime merge works well with it. And I did buy license since I love it. Idk if I should switch or not8
Has anyone experience with putting Linux on a asus e200ha Netbook? Want to get rid of Windows but I'm concerned about driver availability and battery life.1
I need advice.
I'm going to apply for PhD this year, but here's the thing, I don't have a specific interest in anything.
This sounds weird but I only want to do thinking. Like solving problems.
I would have a paper coming out this month as first author, but we discovered some weekends of our algorithm recently and decided to postponed the paper (there are 4 professors on the project and one researcher), so I guess this will definitely affect my application.
Like, what shall I say even on the personal statement? That I have one active mind that just won't stop thinking? The very fact that everything is interesting to me made me not interested to anything.3
It's rather a question. I am thinking of changing my Linux distro from Lubuntu to Arch Linux or Gentoo.
My main reason is that I want to achieve customizability and the freedom that Linux offer and also build my distro from ground up.
Second reason is that I want to switch a little bit I am using Lubuntu for 2-3 years and is worked great for me. Especially because I have an older laptop (Asus K53E) and windows 7 worked really slow on it. But with this distro, everything works much faster and has all features and tools for programming that I need despite being minimalistic.
I have also used other distros before this one. These are some of them that I can remember Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Mint, Bodhi Linux.
I would say for myself that I am quite familiar with terminal and I also wrote some bash scripts on complexity level like these: https://github.com/RokKos/..., https://github.com/RokKos/...
But my main concern is that would fail to install any of this two distros or that I would damage my computer beyond repair...
So my main questions are:
What are you experience with this two distros?
Did you have any troubles installing and setting up distro?
What is overall experience with this two distros?
Was is worth to switch to any of these two?
And you could also share what distro you are using and maybe some rants that occur using them.14
I need your help. I'm currently deciding on setting up a proper multi-monitor set up (inspired by the ones you guys have) at home so I can be better productive since my current "desk" at home is actually my bed (I have a dual monitor set-up at work). I have decided on two monitor choices.
My current budget is around LKR 25,000 (USD 155) per month without it eating into my living expenses (welp, i'm poor 😢).
Do you think I should go for:
2x Dell P2214H 22" monitors in 1 month - LKR 23,600 (USD 146) (per month for one month)
2x ASUS VZ249H Frameless 23.8" monitors in 2 months - LKR 25,000 (USD 155) (per month for two months)
I would really really appreciate your opinions on this.5
Can anyone give me some advice? My friends seem to be ignoring me, fml.
Some people advised me about my build on here recently, I got paid so I'm looking at changing my build.
I currently have a Ryzen 1800x and Asus Crosshair VI Hero
I get shitty FPS in games, but its awesome at everything else.
Someone advised I try and upgrade to 4K, so I will actually use all my GPU's power(I have a GTX 1080 btw)
I'm down to try this, but I like my two matching 1440p screens.
My friend has an I7 8700k and a GTX 1070, yet gets higher FPS in the same game, which is fine, but depressing, as you can imagine.
Someone else said its cause the 8700k has better performance in each core, especially when it comes to games.
I also want to build a hackintosh, currently you cant do that with Ryzen.
Was looking at this board: https://amazon.co.uk/ASUS-PRIME-Z27...
It looks great, and I can have two M.2's, currently I have one, which means I can also run Mac on the other M.2 if I buy this board.
I dont even know if this board will support the 8700k. I don't understand what the difference is between Generations, the sockets match however. So it technically is supported.
I feel like im rambling, I just don't know what to do, and I also don't want to spend money and it be a waste.
Don't suggest buying an I9 I cant afford that shit.
Honestly I appreciate any help, ask any questions you have, I feel i could've missed some details.
I also have 32GB ram, just to rule that out(with the low FPS)6
Not coding rant
I forgot my student ID today and was trying to enter a building.
Called my friend to swipe me in
Security: nah you can't do that
Me: why, I'm a student here
Security: Weill that student id only shows that he is a student
Me: I can provide you my student ID number and state ID
Security: no, either you go get a new student ID now, or you can't enter the building
Wtf? I've asked other people to swipe me in before and the security didn't day shit
I went home and filed a report against that guy
Straight up abusing his power8
Has anyone used catch2? How do I pass the command line arguments to a test when I have test in a separate file. The supplying main yourself document is quite useless, it only tells you how to get the arguments but not how to pass it to tests. I saw people setting a global variable in main but it’s not working for me.
Just wondering. Is an ASUS ROG worth it for programming and virtualization? Or there are better ones that are cheaper?3
Getting my Code fix On my Phone! Bought a small laptop not long ago, few weeks, and within a couple of days, it threw a blue screen of death. What a crock pot of stewed sht. Now, thankfully, I am pain-stakingly coding on my Android. The good news is, my Asus should be here any day!2
I am planning to get either a new graphic card first or new CPU, RAM and Mainboard.
I need advice on what hardware I should upgrade first in my old pc, as I am not sure whether my CPU would be a bottle neck to a new graphics card.
CPU: AMD FX 6200 (3,8GHz) 6 cores
RAM: 8Gb DDR3-Ram (1600MHz)
Graphics: Geforce 780 gtx
Mainboard: Asus M5A99FX PRO R2.0
CPU: AMD Ryzen 7 2700x
RAM: 16GB DDR4 3200
Graphics: Asus rog strix rtx 2070 OC
Mainboard: Gigabyte X470 Aorus Ultra Gaming
I use my Desktop mainly for gaming and some programming in machine learning, but for the latter I can still use my Company notebook which has enough resources.
So I‘d like to hear some opions on what to upgrade first (graphic card or rest) of someone who is more knowledgable in terms of hardware than me :)1
How do you guys calculate complementary color?
I feel like I have a good algorithm but I also feel like I've been posting too much recently so I just want to know what you guys do to calculate complementary color.3
Follow up my last rant which people thought it was my fault
The school called, the manager apologized and said the security guards are not trained that way and they were suppose to tell me multiple ways I can prove that I am a student. He promised me that this is not gonna happen anymore.
I did not fuck up, people6
Three professors, one phd, one post doc, one researcher in a meeting doing code review for you and tell you what a shit piece this is.
Ps. I'm not a phd3
I've been wanting to play with and do some development on Linux again. However, my only spare computer is an old Asus netbook. Has anyone loaded Linux on any of those $150 to $200 mini PCs you can find on Amazon? Do they work well and have driver support? I was thinking it would make a good little machine to just have on my desk.1
My home pc has developed a sudden issue and wont boot up anymore.
Stays stuck on the POST phase and am unable to get into BIOS , just stuck with a big asus logo and a message to press
F2 or Delete to get into BIOS but the system seems frozen as the keyboard lights are on but unresponsive while the
Mobo reads an error code A2
( the manual claims that to be an IDE error although am using only SATA)
Unplugging all usb doesnt change anything.
Unplugging all other sata ssd ,hdd and disk drives except the os drive changes nothing.
Unplugging the os drive results in the system complaining about no bootmgr
(As expected), that allows me to at least look at the BIOS but there doesnt seem to be anything wrong or out of the ordinary..
Booting from a live cd works fine
Booted from a pc boot repair tool and plugged in the os drive into one of the hot swappable sata ports shows me the all the files still there and accessible , check disk revealed nothing wrong. Can't plug in the os drive pre boot as that locks everything up again)
Tried to boot with a windows cd then do a start up repair but plugging in the os drive into the hot swappable sata doesn't work since windows can't see the drive.
Tried to swap the os drive with another one of exact same model filled witb random files resulted in no boot mgr error as expected
Struggled a whole weekend to fix it but alas no progress
Ah and the OS drive's warranty ran out 2 weeks ago 😑
Mobo asus p9x79 deluxe
Os ssd samsung 840 250 gb
No changes in hardware for the last year
No BIOS changes in over a year
I did notice some odd files like 0002Found
On the os drive when i was using the boot repair live cd tool, will bring the drive to
The office where i can get my hands on an ssd sata to usb caddy and take a snapshot of The files there for you guys to see.
Any ideas ? 😞5
Guys can you help me?
I want to by laptop instead of pc, but i dunno if I should go with asus zenbook ux310ux with i7 and 16GB of ram and linux or used macbook with probably i7 and 8GB of ram.
I can't make up my mind whether to choose linux or mac os. I like linux but i have a feeling that someday I will need to do something, and program for that will be windows/mac os only.
PS. Arch linux with i3wm5
You see that little (but annoyingly bright) blue light on the back of my wifi card, well it flashes whenever the network is being used... And it's driving me bloody crazy.
To anyone looking at wifi cards, if the back if your setup is visible, I'd recommend against getting an ASUS card...8
Currently on the market for a new laptop for work.
I'm thinking of Asus Vivobook 15 with 12GB ram and 256 GB SSD config. I don't trust Windows and it's performance on HDD. Since I'm coming from Macbook, I would really hate having to wait about 5 mins for system to be usable after boot up.
Slightly tempted to spend more money and go for a gaming laptop for that I can play Spintires sometimes. But not sure if it's a good idea to have a gaming config laptop for work.
It fucking sucks that there is not much selection of laptops or even let you try demo of laptops that are put for display in the shops here.2
I have an Asus F555L, my question is: will stickers "stick" to the lid, although it has concentric lines on it?4
You're all programmers, right? How do I get my Grandpa's ASUS (Intel Pentium, Windows 10) to run faster? Please please he asked me to help.4
People are bothering me about which one of the 11 inch laptop is the most powerful. I replied Asus e200ha, but is not enough for them 😧
The Asus in photo is an old 2008 model (PRO52RL) that I bought last year just for the DB exam.
We have to create a localhost server with Apache and create a database with Postgressql, we used the LAMP solution in the end and yes we discovered the existing of WAMP, but hey ! on Linux look COOLER 😂😎👌
I love and hate him, even The Binding of Isaac make him under a strong pressure 😞 but hey ! for coding with out testing or debugging is perfect 😉 or even for kill a person (it's really heavy )
Need some help here!!
I'm learning machine learning, so planning to buy Asus R510JX-DM230T. Are the below specs enough to practice TensorFlow ?? Specs : 2.6GHz Core i7 4720HQ processor
8GB DDR3 RAM, 1TB 5400rpm Serial ATA hard drive
15.6-inch FHD Anti-Glare Display, 2GB Nvidia GeForce GTX 950M Graphics14
