Saw Black Sabbath today, final tour. Was quite sad but it felt good to see all of them giving it all. So much energy8 -
People who don't mind their business.
So a while back, in a casual conversation I mentioned to a customer that I maybe might *possibly* have some jewish ancestry, on my *fathers* side, like my grandparents. Distant ancestry. Like the sort of distance that leads to things like dumb polish jokes.
Anyway, this guy starts coming in on a regular basis and talking about jewish related things constantly and I just want to ring him up and be left alone.
He asks me "so aren't you supposed to be in synagogue or something? I thought you're people were really adamant about not working on the sabbath?"
I looked at him deadpan and said "Money is my religion. Have a nice day."
He laughed nervously "uh yeah, thats good, okay, gotta run."
Best part was he forgot his eleven cents in change.18 -
A failed programmer!
Back in school the computer screen was my canvas, the keyboard was my brush and i filled it in with the colors of a language. Helping my fellow students debug and find the solution to their codes. Loved to do that its been 10 years thats i have programmed anything I am trying to figure out where is lost it all. Never got into a job working as programmer as in all the interviews I was asked of definition of things I could never remember but give a something to build or debug I could work it as a charm. Even though didn’t work a programmer kept on programming at home making free programs for friends or helping debug codes. But then I stopped and don’t know why and I really wanna get back into it not for others but for myself to see if i still have it, but its been so long new languages new platform and don’t know where to start. Or should I accept myself as a failed programmer!12 -

Just moved this weekend into the first home I've ever actually owned. Bought a scotch older than myself to mark the occasion, but I want to save it to share with my brother sometime during Yule (that's an agonizing abstinence for me). But at least someone gifted me with a Macallan 12 yr for housewarming that has been hitting the spot quite nicely.
Got my PC set up already to unfortunately go back to work tomorrow. Speaking of which, is it like "Recruiting Season" or something? I have been hit up like crazy about other opportunities, at a time when my company that i've been with almost 4 years seems to be floundering to get its shit together.
I guess I haven't paid much attention in the past to whether I get hit up with "opportunities" more at the end of the year or not. But its something I'm seriously considering right now. 2020 was mostly stagnant for me, and ending the year with moving is a high note. Would not mind continuing this trend of change whilst I still have to wait for the world to be able to resume "normalcy" a while longer.2 -
That I've never been able to attend a hackathon since they are ALL always on the weekend. I'm Jewish and can't use electronics on the Sabbath FFS6

a lot of people
Aaron Swartz, Tim Berners-Lee, Ted Nelson, Raph Levien, Nathan Hurst, Linus Torvalds, Bjarne Stroustrup, Richard Dawkins, J.G. Ballard, William Burroughs, William Gibson, Ludwig Wittgenstein, Donna Haraway, BLACK SABBATH
and the list goes on and on1 -
I’ve recently listened to “mememe” by 100gecs. I cried, of course, but I was also so blissful and serene over the fact that modern music doesn’t disappoint me.
I’m a huge fan of Black Sabbath. I’m glad 100gecs are now rocking harder than Black Sabbath ever could. It was all worth it in the end.
John Frusciante with his complex avant-garde works like Letur-Lefr also doesn’t represent the “lost art”, and modern hyperpop is somehow effortlessly more complex, thanks to SOPHIE, the person we lost, who are solely responsible for that, and the beauty of it.
