Bro I fucking hate Flutter and android studio. I have just started android development and oh my god the bunch of errors i’m getting is crazy af. Like I don’t get one point, flutter was created by google and android studio was also created by google… then why tf they don’t focus on normalizing the development process. Why so many errors ???????? And no easy fix for it like whyyyyyyyyyyy?????
Anyways sorry for the rant but there’s more to it. I just built a fuckin app which was running fine in my AVD and then when I sent it to my friend he was seeing a grayed out screen and then I searched for the error and then I was like bruh, I was sitting for sooo long building the first app of my life and here we are. My app can’t even run on someone else’s phone because of a fuckin gray screen error (i’ll fix it tomorrow)10 -
Azure may look like shit at the beginning, but given enough time to experience it you understand that you were right all along, it is actual shit7

Since I'm a rather new devrant user, does these kind of trolls happen here more frequently?
Other than that, i rly enjoy the posts here.23 -
I cant believe i have to know bash scripting as a devops engineer! Like not linux terminal bash commands, the literal bash Fucking language and syntax coding of automated scripts! Why the fuck? Why cant i just code this shit in java or any other normal language? It would do the same fuckin job and much easier to do. Why i have to code .sh files in devops?!15

offending devs is easy -
String strName = " John";
String strGreet = Greet(strName.ToString());
return strGreet;11 -
There's a few people in here who are clearly mentally ill and using devrant instead of getting help.
I just want to say thank you to those individuals for making this place what it is! This place would suck without you.13 -
we switched from GitHub to BitBucket and I saw my colleague try to run `bit status` because they thought GitHub = git so BitBucket = bit.
Had a good chuckle seeing that.9 -
Fuck this new client.
Can’t go into much detail but if you think you’ve got it bad, think again. This shit show of a client has taken incompetence, micromanagement and chaos to whole new levels.3 -
Convincing them I'm a fully functional human person and not an autistic introvert with imposter syndrome crammed into a vaguely human shaped meat bag.2

People really have short term memories. It seems everyone has suddenly forgotten the nonexistent lack of privacy at Zuck’s platforms.
To be fair, I think competition is good for consumers and Musk has been doing a very terrible job of managing Twitter.
But not having most platforms of social communication controlled by one company would be better.5 -
Had the first DDOS battle in my life lads, fuck me that was hard. I somehow managed to block these assholes, and some piece of shit was extorting money out of our business by messaging us in telegram. What a piece of shit.9

Ooof.
In a meeting with my client today, about issues with their staging and production environments.
They pull in the lead dev working on the project. He's a 🤡 who freelanced for my previous company where I was CTO.
I fired him for being plain bad.
Today he doesn't recognize me and proceeds to patronize me in server administration...
The same 🤡 that checks production secrets into git, builds projects directly in the production vm.
Buckle up... Deploys *both* staging and production to the *same* vm...
Doesn't even assign a static IP to the VM and is puzzled when its IP has changed after a relaunch...
Stores long term aws credentials instead of using instance roles.
Claims there are "memory leaks", in a js project. (There may be memory misuse by project or its dependencies, an actual memory leak in v8 that somehow only he finds...? Don't think so.)
Didn't even set up pm2 in systemd so his services didn't even relaunch after a reboot...
You know, I'm keeping my mouth shut and make the clown work all weekend to fix his own hubris.9 -
Well I'm in the process of interviewing for a new job and everything about it sounds like a big upgrade but I'm already starting to feel sad because I'm going to miss my fellow captives 😭 nothing bonds people like a toxic workplace.6

Don't you just love it when an official Docker image suddenly switches from one base image to another, and they automatically update all existing tags? Oh you've had it locked to v1.2.3, guess what, v1.2.3 now behaves slightly differently because it's been compiled with OpenSSL 3. Yeah, we updated a legacy version of the software just to recompile it with the latest version of OpenSSL, even though the previous version of OpenSSL is still receiving security fixes.
I don't think it's the image maintainers or Docker's fault though. Docker images are expected to be self-contained, and updating the base image is necessary to get the latest security fixes. They had two options: to keep the old base image which has many outdated and vulnerable libraries, or to update the base image and recompile it with OpenSSL 3.
What really bothers me about the whole thing is that this is the exact fucking problem containers were supposed to solve. But even with all the work that goes into developing and maintaining container images, it still isn't possible to do anything about the fact that the entire Linux ecosystem gives exactly zero fucks about backwards compatibility or the ability to run legacy software.15 -
*Me enjoying life*
Brain: You're wasting your potential. You should work more.
*Me on the job working*
Brain: You're wasting your youth. You should go out and enjoy life.
WHAT THE FUCK DO YOU WANT, BRAIN?
Brain: No productivity! Only Guilt!19 -
If a CPU were an employee...
CPU: Hey boss, I'm seeing you are giving me a lot of mathematical tasks that would really profit from splitting into parallel calculations. GPU's are great for that, we should get one.
Boss: But you can still do them, right? If you can do it, I'm pretty sure you can do it at GPU speeds. We gotta save up so I can buy another car!
----------------------
Boss: Why is this taking so long?
CPU: I'm overloaded with work, so I'm overheating. Maybe you could buy a GPU to help me out, or at least a fan...
Boss: You're overheating? Your personal problems should not affect your professional life. Learn to get your shit together or we will hire someone who will
CPU: *melts*1 -
Work from home people: what’s the naughtiest thing you do to take advantage of working from home???12
-
Manager: You devs are constantly complaining about context switching, if you were on my level you would be able to multitask and switch from task to task without an— hold on I’m getting a text *tap* *tap* *tap tap* *tap* *send noise*
Manager: Right, what were we talking about again?
Dev: …15 -
We had recently a thread asking about our internet speeds, this seems relevant to most of what I've read in the comments so far.2
-
"Can you give an example of a work-based conflict you were involved in, and how you went about resolving it?"
"Heh, ohhhh yes. Last job actually. Manager flipped out at me for the billionth time for no reason at all. I calmly handed my notice in, changed a bunch of encryption keys and disabled a bunch of users on the server before leaving and never looking back."
"Wow. Seriously?!"
"Absolutely. I'm very forward-looking."
Still no idea if the guy just decided to turn up to the interview to waste our time, or he really was stupid enough to think that was a positive.10 -
Today a guy at work asked if it's easy to make an app. I said it depends on what he wants. And oh boi he was very disappointed the more i talked 😂 People really think it's an easy job4
