Site usage has dropped off a cliff since this started, I'm seeing comments every other day about something else breaking, or which devRant alternatives is best. Seen as I'm never going to have enough ++ I've had to resort to inspecting the avatar builder and fiddling around with the image source to add all the stuff I want.
Also, why is there no tabby coloured cat option?66 -
My TEN YEAR OLD twin girls came to me with a TIMESHEET and PIE CHARTS to explain to me why "Our household would benefiter (sic) a Nintendo Switch".
They... actually did what for an intern would be a passable data storytelling job (orthographic errors aside).
They explained how they would share the videogame between themselves (because it is not allowed at their school, not that we would let them bring it there anyway) in a colorful timesheet spanning four days a week.
They even put a pie chart showing how most of the time nobody will be using it.
I feel at the same time immensely proud, scared, and a wee bit freaked out that they came with all that to me but with their mother they just talked. Do I seem so distant that they feel they can't convince me without data? I gotta watch out for using work jargon at home.
Anyway, first "interns" that I have ever seen using a pie chart with the appropriate number of classes (even if highly biased).11 -
After 10 years of pain. The sweet delight I got from deleting Jira. Better than squashing any bug.6

Just had a code review where I commented that we should use linq's ".Single()" here because we don't expect or tolerate zero or multiple matches in this scenario and their response was "but copilot says -" and I didn't know so few words could make me so irrationally angry.7

This platform went to shit, sinking in a never ending sea of hate of our own making. This is why I’ll be posting cute cats everyday from now on.16

Here’s to a hopefully better 2024!
Let’s all tell our bitchface thundercunt micromanagers to fuck off, find better employ elsewhere, and finally make progress on that side project that was our world several months ago.
And if the world continues going absolutely mental, may all of you find a peaceful meadow away from everyone and build yourselves wonderful little cottages.6 -
I decided to do a daily Blender render just as a creative challenge for myself. I was so excited because I built an awesome computer this year and was eager to put it to use, only to be hit with seemingly random BSODs and crashes a couple seconds into the render.
As it turns out, my CPU cooler is woefully inadequate to handle 32 threads running at once, which was the cause of my crashes. Turning the render threads down to 8 keeps the temps low enough to finish the render.
In a way, it's a relief because the alternative was a problem with my $900 GPU. I've ordered a bigger CPU cooler and well reviewed heatsink paste which will hopefully fix it. If not, I'm going to have to go water-cooled, which I really don't want to do.34 -
Had some interviews with some companies around. At this point, even though I’ve been a Machine Learning Engineer for 7+ years now. I’m convinced that 90% of companies that claim to be “AI-Powered” just means that they use python for their backend.4

I was totally unaware of the world of configurations!
Ruby versions, Cocoa Pods versions, Manifest files, Docker files, podspec.yaml, then .lock variants... Jesus Christ and Moohamed...
You need to be devops just to be a programmer7 -
I'll be asking the HR of my next company to include a "fuck off" clause in the contract if they want to hire me.
Under that clause, I would have the right to tell anyone, and everyone, to fuck off. It includes all 24 hours of the day, not just the working hours.10 -
I really need to learn to think through how many stitches I’m putting into the first row of a project.
- Takes over an hour to do one row
- Already used more than 2k yards on it and it’s not even short blanket length yet (though width is ridiculous)11 -
Just sent my devRant profile link to my employer. They loved some of my memes, but generally they didn't care much.
Dreaded this moment for 1.5 years now, and now decided to come clean.
Did I know that an irrational fear about being fired over some memes was indeed irrational? Yes. Do I feel better now? Yes, hell yes!
To be completely honest with you, it was today's @scor interactions that finally empowered me to do it. A dumb fear of getting doxxed was with me way before @scor started attacking me, but now I ended it: my partners (I'm polyamorous) know about devRant, my friends, my ex-colleagues, and now my current employer knows it too. Everyone from my public life knows who I really am and what I really think.
Not as a step in a dumb “beef” that doesn't exist, not as a slide, not as an insult, I'm going to say THANK YOU, @scor, for finally pushing me over that tiny obstacle. One and a half year of annoying obscure itching is finally over.28 -

For the first time in my life I've had a use-case where I got to use UNION in SQL.
I love it when I get to use these rare bits of knowledge I picked up in school1 -
Why are people behaving like communist dramaqueens on every OSS repo?
Why do OSS libraries and frameworks have to be political cunts and insert *the current thing* into every god damn console message of their tooling and on their websites?
Stop it. Get some help.
I want to code, not be a aborted political SJW fetus. Let me fucking code in peace.5
