dfox428277y@Floydian not April fools! We just feel that this change will help us devs feel more in our natural habitat!
-
Agred20367yI'd love to keep it even after April fool's day :D Looks awesome and just nerdy enough for me to feel good about myself.
-
suprano38307yAs much as I love binary, this one right here I can't deal with. I hope it's an April fool's joke. ð
-
Another fun feature is make us write code to fetch Rants instead of the app fetching by it self. Though it still need to parse data, we ain't got time for that ð
-
++ for optional hex suggestion.
Oh, and for octal. And Base64! Then I am satisfied. -
About the readibility: the good news is you have a fairly good idea by just looking at the length of the number. This might lead to quite some "you have a small one" or "mine is bigger" jokes though ð
-
Also, can you guys implement spaces or underscores for every 4 digits? It would make it a lot more readable.
-
kurtr127557yI just noticed it and thought it was an old feature release I missed since there were no rants about it on my feed or when I searched for 'binary'...
Fortunately before I checked myself into a mental clinic I looked at @dfox profile thinking he must have ranted about it when it was released ððð -
Should have done it in hexadecimal... then I would feel more like I'm in my natural habitat :3
-
Getting fed up with devRant and now this is the final straw. Can't believe you have done this!
ð -
I'd prefer hexadecimal. It helps save precious screen space when compared to both binary and decimal system.
-
Why not make this an option?
"Show ++s as binary?"
Or even better, just for the hexadecimal-ists (?), you could make it a combobox or whatever and make the user decide :3
I know this doesn't serve basically any purpose, but it'd be just for fun xD -
hacker17727yThink I found a bug: negative scores...
(This dude usually shitposts and has rude comments all with --'s so I assume this isn't his actual score haha) -
donuts238487yI thought our natural language was abstracting low level concepts to make them more human friendly and easier to use?
-
I hate April 1st.
As a person with a very weak connection to reality, I feel completely paranoid about all the shit that starts happening around me.
Tech companies announcing weird products, coworkers joking on slack about irrecoverable backup and server crashes, weird Easter eggs popping up in products... I go in full conspiracy mode.
Talking about Easter eggs... it's Easter as well? Very suspicious... -
Kur0yan457yOh shit. The devs are on to us George. Just keep pretending to know code... Uh... JavaScript sucks amirite guys?
-
Nawap13977y@irene
Exactly , useless skill!
I think we stopped writing compilers and assemblers in binary very long time ago! -
Nawap13977y@systemctl
Y do you want fuck up everything for ppl who take long time in conversion of binary! -
davide24927yThe idea is cool but you could make that if you click over the binary number, the decimal appears

dfox428277yApril fools :)
We hope everyone enjoyed!
Quick story about how this idea came to be: a couple of months ago I saw a rant/feature suggestion from someone saying that we should show all point values in binary. All of the responses were pretty negative like “that would be so annoying!” but we thought it would be fun for a day.
Based on some of the feedback, we will definitely consider making it an optional preference for picking point base maybe, since for some it seemed to be a fun touch. -
@dfox it's almost impossible to have an idea of the number of ++ in binary, but it was really cool. I loved that! :)
-
@dfox Can i learn how you implemented it only that day? I saw normal numbers in the apis. Also in the app source code.
-
gitlog62067y@CozyPlanes he also edited the rant after nearly 24 hrs
Well probably this can be done by database itself
In your case, maybe bitset used on prod without git commit -
dfox428277y@CozyPlanes the API only returned the binary scores if the client was out iOS, Android, or web app.
-
@fuck2code @jAsE
Why are you guys doing this?
@dfox
Can you add an auto binary to Unicode (or ASCII) converter in the app?

EDIT: devRant April Fools joke (2018)
-------------------------
Hey everyone! As some of you have already noticed, @trogus and I made a decision (based on the suggestion of some members of the community) to start transitioning all scores on the app to binary. We have started by making all user scores in our mobile apps and website (if you’re logged in) appear in binary. We think this makes the app more fun while remaining usable at the same time!
Please let us know what you think and happy binary-reading!
